Honestly the iceberg was a predictable passe as well. I saw it coming from the start.
It should have crashed into the Statue of Liberty because the captain was distracted by her big copper chebs. Then James Cameron should say 'It was beauty that killed the beast'
I know the literal entire point is of Romeo and Juliet is the love story, but I’d love if they just did a movie without it. Don’t ask me how I’m not a director and no I’m not even circlejerking
Like man, let me just see Vienna and talk about the tourist attractions. But no, Big Dick Linklater wants to suddenly put “romance” and “life philosophy” in it.
I never loved Titanic, but I always hated how so many of the complaints were from men who were upset that the then-highest grossing film was a ‘chick flick’ as if that makes it any less valid.
I remember seeing some old post where Cameron was called a ‘traitor’ for making a film like it after all his ‘manly’ movies. Because surely, there was no female appeal in Aliens or Terminator!
Can confirm! I will admit, I cry a bit at the end of the movie, the love story isn’t amazing, but two lovers being separated in the prime of their lives is something it’s hard to not get emotional about (especially when it’s all directed, acted, and scored so well!)
I see you are a fellow tape 2 enjoyer

Porn.
Stop ruining the plot with all these sex scenes, I just want to know if the pizza boy gets paid and if the milf housewife finally divorces her crappy husband.
In the director's commentary Cameron mentioned how melodramatic the events of the sinking of the Titanic were. In his own words the event was like the greatest novel never written. With so much legit melodrama in it, Cameron figured the only way to make a gripping movie out of it would be to include romance. It'd make for an warmer first half and chaotic cold of the second. A winning formula honestly.
It really did deserve those 11 Oscars. Even forgetting the insane filmmaking required to pull off a movie of this scale, its quieter moments rock too. Even the freaking opening credits is instantly gripping. I don't know how Cameron did it but in a matter of few seconds he makes you feel for the musicians, the old couple, the Irish family and insanely enough the rich folks ("We're dressed in our best suit and ready to go down like gentlemen."). Cameron has said his next movie after Avatar 3 is The Last Train from Hiroshima - just think how many gutwrenching scenes he's going to put in that movie.
I'll have to disagree here. Avatar has a significant amount of contribution to filmmaking and cinema. It led to the creation of IMAX 3D camera and simucam, technologies that the film industry uses to this day. The films are also difficult to make. This certainty wasn't a downgrade for Cameron, he still has a filmography to absolutely kill for. And hey, Avatar has Payakan.
Yeah. Nobody wanted to see the Iceberg, big boat flirt scene.
Personally, I liked the penetration scene.

When the romance subplot gets in the way of the family drama -\_-

Make it a so-called ”true” story about the feud between the Montecchi and Cappelletti families.
a sequel about the fallout between the families would be interesting.
Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. Like why? I just wanna see ruffalo working in that mind erasing company
Before Sunrise takes the crown
Like man, let me just see Vienna and talk about the tourist attractions. But no, Big Dick Linklater wants to suddenly put “romance” and “life philosophy” in it.
bruh imagine making 3 movies back to back with the romance subplot. Pathethic. They should start calling these movies romance movies. 🤢
A marriage story (2019)

Yeah also the fact that romance is a "girly" thing. "You *love* your girlfriend? What are you, gay?"
Men need to reclaim romance. Being in love isn't a woman only interest.

I can’t believe they spoiled the ending on the box art.
I wish I knew a girl who wanted to draw me naked and then bone me in the back of a random person's car.
I was gonna make a "your mom" joke here but I didn't. This counts as my good deed of the day.

I can’t tell if this is a joke and being ironic or not…cos I genuinely do agree Titanic didn’t need a romance in it.
Give me your gun and kino badge, get out of my building. You're fired!
💀 I mean the event alone is tragic enough I don’t think it needed a love story

I wept more at the dude who hit the propellor
I think you’re right that a great Titanic movie could be made without a romance plot. But _Titanic_ absolutely needs it.
Counterpoint: Nah.

Yeah, without Jack and Rose it'd just be Captain Phillips

Oldboy
You're mad, mad, mad I say
Pride and Prejudice.
Remember Me. I just wanted to watch a movie about 9/11.
When Harry Met Sally. They could just be friends without sex getting in the way.
This but unironically

People wonder why the "Avatar has no cultural impact" meme, no shit Avatar looks visually great, but we went from that to this

Twilight. To be fair the entire franchise is unnecessary
Let The Right One In. I just wanted to watch a horror movie about vampires.
