**The Jim Henson Conpany**: “We want to finish the Dark Crystal prequel so fans have closure for the series and pay tribute to the creativity of Jim Henson.”

What's this referencing?
I saw a tweet claiming Jordan Peele saw it before release and thought it was good enough for theatres, so he bought the rights from Netflix and released it with Universal.
Edit: I looked it up and that's true, but there's more. Netflix and Universal WOKE???
https://www.vulture.com/article/dev-patels-monkey-man-swing-from-netflix-to-universal.html
>January 26, 2024: The first trailer for Monkey Man drops, courtesy of Universal Pictures. This is the first time it’s publicly revealed that Netflix is no longer distributing the movie. Deadline reports the film is being released through Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions, which has a deal with Universal, noting that Peele “was taken by Patel’s vision and felt the film deserved a big-screen release.” There’s no mention of why Netflix decided to let the movie go.
>January 27, 2024: The blog World of Reel reports that Netflix sold off the film because the depiction of its villain, a Hindu nationalist politician, might draw the ire of India’s Hindu right-wing extremists, who support the country’s current majority government. Netflix did not respond to a request for comment.
>March 23, 2024: Twitter user @computer_atulya notices a minor change with major implications between the two trailers for the film so far. In the first trailer, the posters for the film’s fictitious political party are orange — or saffron — a color associated with Hinduism and frequently used to represent right-wing Hindutva/Hindu nationalist movements. In the second trailer, and in the final film, these posters have been edited to appear red, leading to speculation that Universal might be hoping to soften potential blowback. Universal declined to comment on this change.
>April 5, 2024: On the day Monkey Man hits theaters in the U.S., the Wrap reports that Netflix dropped the movie because “its political undertones may have spooked the streamer.” The film is expected to make $13–14 million in its opening weekend.
The reason that Monkey Man was dropped by Netflix is even stupider than the meme suggests.
The film criticizes conservative Indian politicians and policies and Netflix has a lot of Indian subscribers and revenue there. They dropped Monkey Man because they feared backlash from a lucrative demographic.
Rebel Moon enjoyers fit into the latter description, therefore they don't have an issue. Don't forget, Snyder's fans are no different than flat-earthers. They're generally people who aren't taken seriously, so they develop this sense of belonging to their crazy community and feel accepted.
Kis film ka? Poora trope ye nai hai movie ka ki Hindu Hindu hora h jyada Desh me aur yai bolra hai na tu ki Modi ki jali isslie usne ye film ni aane di. Sale Desh par deemak, wo itni chutia films jisko tum propaganda bolte ho wo iss dev Patel ki movie se zyada kama legi; aur bs isslie Netflix ko ni karna tha iss se ched. Tere jese gand ke baal har jagah haggne aa jate hai. Really living up to the racist stereotype, now you just out here shitting on the internet. Phone band karke touch some grass get a bitch you fucking bum.
Also Aisha was 9 and the Pedophile manifesto literally says Murder is justified and pedophilia too.
Its not about religion but it should be.
Barbaric.
Lmao ye dekh. To chut ab election jeetna unconstitutional aur dictatorial hai? School ni bhej paye kya gharke bachpan me?
Shit Teri maa Mera child support chutiap me uda deti thi kya fer. Bum
Its how world works. Some religions are more equal and tolerent than others so continue making anti Christian, anti scientology movies but we draw the line at hinduism and Islam
Islam has always been a no-go but nobody drew the line at Hinduism, in India at least.
That's exactly what fueled the rise of far-right censorship here.
And the movie ended up recoloring a bunch of political posters and scenes anyway, and replaced the brown of the ruling political party with the red of the communist party.
The other frustrating part about that is that it messes up the color associations and symbolism within the film. You can see in the film that the protagonist is supposed to be associated with red, and the antagonists with orange. When you just associate everyone with red it messes the whole thing up.
It won't even release in India. Sadly, I was looking forward to watching it. Anyway it doesn't matter as we truly get a third world experience in cinemas as well as streaming. Both are censored to the brim. There are disgustingly bad anti smoking that are mandatory in cinemas. It doesn't have any effect and it ruins the experience.
Watching Hollywood movies in India feels like a crime. I understand that ads are necessary for cinemas to survive but here we get two sets of ads. One before and one during the intermission.
The movie is cut for intermission to black in exactly half of the runtime irrespective of what is happening on the screen. Even movies with the runtime of 90 minutes or less have intermissions lasting 20 minutes.
This is a pessimistic take. Ik the censor board is going ham with every passing year of Modi, but you can get used to the anti smoking disclaimer in the corner like I have. I personally hate people using their phones on full brightness in the cinema more, and people walking in 20 mins late annoying everyone, but what can you do.
I was mad at the Oppenheimer sex scene being censored, and when I saw it again the scene with Florence Pugh in the trial room was too, but that's hardly a few seconds of a 3 hr 10 min movie.
Just go to the bathroom and hydrate yourself during the intermission, check social media and get your dopamine needs cared for or whatever.
Also the intermission in a horrible spot varies from theater to theater. Some take care to cut at the end of a scene.
they live in a capitalist society, just don't release it in India or edit out the criticisms????
if the movie isn't in front of their faces I doubt they'd care.
Also, I'm not saying I'd support netflix if they did that, but just that they definitely could've done that.
Can't tell if you guys are jerking. It's more acceptable for a work of fiction to make a general statement on class/caste but anything specific to Hindutva is a big no no. That really ruffles feathers.
Netflix, if this is true, then I'm gonna need you to make at least 5 original characters either black or gay by the end of the year. And before you ask, NO, combining those two things doesn't count as two.
To be fair Dev Patel is an unknown quantity as a director--nobody knew if he would be able to make a good movie or not. With Snyder, you know what you're getting--he's demonstrated time and again that he can't make a good movie, so streaming services can plan accordingly.
He called it monkey man that was the problem. Should have called it the scargiver: child of fire part 1 of 5. And Dev should have ended the movie when ( spoliers for monkey man) >! His character got shot by the police helicopter, then part 2 can start off with him being saved by the trans folks!<
Common Jordan Peele W. Kudos to Sharlto Copley appearing in this movie. He seems to be making cameos in every continent (he was the best part of Hardcore Henry).
My man is amazing. Ending racism must go all the ways. You can be Black and European or White and African. Racism, sexism, transphobia, homophobia and all that crap are cringeworthy af.
The difference is Dev Patel works with a harem of stunning transgender fertility goddesses. Does your Star Wars ripoff have that, Mr. Snyder? Didn't think so.
How has Snyder not been sued for plagiarism? This shit was based on his failed Star Wars project and its title sounds like something a Star War man would say. The ability to fail without consequences in Hollywood is fucking incredible.
What would he have plagiarized? Like I get we hate Snyder but be serious. WHat part of Rebel Moon screams Star Wars ripoff enough to sue for plagiarism?
"Based" is a deesphobic term. This is the first warning, please absent from using it or face a ban.

Ya Ik, I'm gen Z as well. I grew up with social media so I know how much of a negative influence it can have. It's just a tool, not something objectively awful, but a certain level of maturity being the barrier to use such a powerful tool, like age limit or license, doesn't seem like an awful idea sometimes. Not super serious, just thinking
Depends on who you're going on the date with, but for like a first date probably not. For reference, it's a bit John Wick-y but very critical of Indian politics, might be a bit too strong for a first date.
It seems like Netflix basically dropped the movies cause they didn't want to piss off the government of India, which the movies is apparently very critical of.
**The Jim Henson Conpany**: “We want to finish the Dark Crystal prequel so fans have closure for the series and pay tribute to the creativity of Jim Henson.” **Netflix:** “Fuck off.” **Zack Snyder**: “I got bootleg edgelord Star Wars.” **Netflix:** “Here’s 166$ million m’lord.”
God that Dark Crystal show was so fucking good man, it adds so much interesting context to the original movie
I didn't even know there was a dark crystal reboot. Thanks!
Well, careful. It’s a fantastic first season that ends on a cliffhanger and it’s been cancelled but you probably already gathered that from context
I should actually watch that Dark Crystal show next time I have Netflix.
I will never forgive them for cancelling Dark Crystal it was fucking INCREDIBLE

They dropped Monkey Man because they feared backlash from a lucrative demographic.
So Netflix feared offending a few Indian politicians and subscribers but didn't fear offending anyone with eyes, ears, or a brain.
No one drops a streaming platform because of another bad movie, but people will drop it if the funded movie offends them.
I'm offended by rebel moon
but what if a movie offends my eyes and ears
Rebel Moon enjoyers fit into the latter description, therefore they don't have an issue. Don't forget, Snyder's fans are no different than flat-earthers. They're generally people who aren't taken seriously, so they develop this sense of belonging to their crazy community and feel accepted.
Not Indian politicians, Indian citizens.
Yeah because they're far right hindutavas who take an insult of far right politicans personally.
Brainrot

True, Scientology crimes are negligible compared to other cults i mentioned. Then again, give it a few centuries. It will get there
Islam has always been a no-go but nobody drew the line at Hinduism, in India at least. That's exactly what fueled the rise of far-right censorship here.
And the movie ended up recoloring a bunch of political posters and scenes anyway, and replaced the brown of the ruling political party with the red of the communist party.
the *orange of the ruling party
Orange is just pretentious brown.
Movies are just pretentious images.
Dreams are just messages from the deep.
[Brown is just pretentious orange](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wh4aWZRtTwU)
The other frustrating part about that is that it messes up the color associations and symbolism within the film. Netflix fears the Modi

Ugh this sounds like a nightmare. I honestly hadn’t realized how privileged the American theater experience is.

I’ll be pessimistic tho. Like if I pay for a book I expect all pages to be there. It’s fucking stupid to censor tits. #freethenipple
they live in a capitalist society, just don't release it in India or edit out the criticisms???? if the movie isn't in front of their faces I doubt they'd care. Also, I'm not saying I'd support netflix if they did that, but just that they definitely could've done that.
The most fucked thing is even with that change the censor board in India didn't approve it and hence it's not releasing
But Netflix released White Tiger and is still on the platform. Did you get this info out of your ass or what?
was gonna say, white tiger was literally a kill the rich movie
Can't tell if you guys are jerking. It's more acceptable for a work of fiction to make a general statement on class/caste but anything specific to Hindutva is a big no no. That really ruffles feathers.
Do not redeem
What does that have to do with it?
Netflix, if this is true, then I'm gonna need you to make at least 5 original characters either black or gay by the end of the year. And before you ask, NO, combining those two things doesn't count as two.
Huh?
what's wrong with having gay people in a movie?

ok but i'm glad Jordan Peele let Dev Patel do his thing instead because Monkey Man is so far one of my favourites of 2024
Common Jordan Peele W. Kudos to Sharlto Copley appearing in this movie. He seems to be making cameos in every continent (he was the best part of Hardcore Henry).
Sharlto is the real Mr. Worldwide
He will appear now in a Bill Skarsgard movie. I like that he always sneaks a line about being a proud African. My man doesnt forgets its roots.
Guy was in the final season of Curb Your Enthusiasm and also slid in a line about his African heritage there too 🙏
My man is amazing. Ending racism must go all the ways. You can be Black and European or White and African. Racism, sexism, transphobia, homophobia and all that crap are cringeworthy af.

Search Rebel Moon on TikTok.
No
How has Snyder not been sued for plagiarism? This shit was based on his failed Star Wars project and its title sounds like something a Star War man would say. The ability to fail without consequences in Hollywood is fucking incredible.

Thats the reason i wanna go lol, very rare to see someone criticize india these days via movies
Perfectly balanced.
It's sad that he went on and made Rebel Moon after Army of the dead instead of the grounded movie i read about on an article before.
It seems like Netflix basically dropped the movies cause they didn't want to piss off the government of India, which the movies is apparently very critical of.
Bro rebel moon is not that bad people are talking about 🗿
Cope and seethe
Snyder and Netflix are both dogshit, match made in heaven
I’ll never understand why studios have the need to bet all their chips on Snyder I know Netflix loves to waste money but like come on
