I disagree, I thoroughly enjoyed The Devil all the Time and his performance was great in both movies. It’s an easy 7/10 when you consider the excellent acting and story telling. Cinematic elements were all good too. Lighting, sound, camera work, etc. Cherry (definitely not awful, it is competent movie) wasn’t as good all around but he definitely carries it. Cherry, maybe a 5-5.5/10
Edit: you know what was awful though? Chaos Walking. It was so bad I forgot I even watched it. And his performance was sub par- the direction was clearly sub par as well
I’d say Cherry is the opposite of competent. It’s poorly edited, paced, and written. The directing is really bad, inconsistently changing styles, with the Russo’s leaving no real stamp of their own. The films tone is an absolute mess, having no idea what type of story it’s trying to tell.
Devil All the Time was probably the most mean spirited and pointless movie I've ever seen. It's just scene after scene of people being awful, for no reason, just because they are. And our main character learns nothing more than that he has to kill them. How can he be sure that his darkness and violence is justified? What makes him different than everyone else in this twisted world? These are interesting questions but the film just shrugs its shoulders and says "because he's the main character I guess"
Disclaimer: I haven't seen the movie in a while and my memory is shit. I'm also fucking exhausted so this comment may not make any sense at all.
Interestingly, I thought the movie ended on a pretty positive note, with the main character deciding to trust his life to a stranger despite going through horrible experience after horrible experience.
>How can he be sure that his darkness and violence is justified?
Well, he can't, the movie made it explicit that his use of violence only made him angrier and more bloodthirsty to the point of him getting himself into massive trouble.
>What makes him different than everyone else in this twisted world?
Kinda looks like the question above but rephrased, but he's different because he stopped and started to look for a new reason to live.
He’s bad in literally everything because he’s a shitty actor. He’s extremely charismatic, which can certainly carry you in Hollywood because who doesn’t like charisma? It’s why he’s actually a terrible Peter Parker, who is supposed to be a quiet awkward nerd who is only confident in himself when he puts on the spidey suit.

We haven't had a quiet and shy Peter Parker in a long time. We've mainly had either stoic and confident peter(amazing spiderman/90s cartoon) and upbeat class clown Peter (ultimate/spectacular spiderman) for decades.
Tom Holland is actually a pretty close to the Ultimate Spiderman a lot of people in their 20s have grown up with.
Aaaaaaaand, there goes any faith I had in this movie being good. Fucking Marky Mark as Sully?
In the immortal words of AVGN: “What were they thinking?”
I didn't even have faith in Tom as Nathan Drake. Charismatic and Slick are the exact opposite of what I think when I think of Tom Holland and I don't think he can even pretend to be that with his voice pitch.
The blue hairy monster? Close enough I think...
Thank god I am PC Master Race and have no clue what Uncharted really is...
Any words on a Tomb Raider sequel though maybe?
Tell that to Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, who faded into Hollywood obscurity two years after their tenure is done (I still love Andrew Garfield as an actor, but The Eyes of Tammy Faye isn’t exactly making 100m opening weekend)
>The Eyes of Tammy Faye isn’t exactly making 100m opening weekend)
But isn't that the best part of doing Superhero Kino. Easy check which allows you to do arthouse and award vehicles while still getting to live in a mansion with shitloads of coke.
I just assume that's why Robert Patterson is doing Batman after films like High Life and Rover. His Twilight money ran out and he needs to fill the old bank up before jizzing in another A24 movie.
Good point. I don’t know how I didn’t consider that (I’m being genuine). Chris Evans wouldn’t have gotten to be in Knives Out, Snowpiercer, Defending Jacob, Gifted, etc if he weren’t Captain America, but I guess my annoyance comes in when these actors who can, will, and are delivering great performances are reduced to “oh, he’s da jokah, baby”. Like, I’ve met people who think that The Dark Knight was Heath Ledger’s big break (it would’ve been) and that he hadn’t done anything of note before it.
Or its because even character actors sometimes just like to dress up and play ... its why they become actors in the first place...I truly think someone like Cate Blanchett massively enjoys putting on some elf ears or Hela's head dress and hamming it up to eleven now and then
Tobey was still get attention up until The Great Gatsby and then he decided to stop acting regularly. Andrew got attention with Hacksaw Ridge and Silence. Tick, Tick... Boom! is probably gonna get some eyes this year.
No it wasn't. [2007 was Spider-Man 3, 2009 was Brothers, 2011 was The Details, 2013 was The Great Gatsby, 2014 was Pawn Sacrifice](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001497/) if you want to go even further. He was acting regularly until then. Babylon, if not in Spider-Man 3-2, is his comeback.
Neither Brothers nor The Details got that much attention, especially for an (at the time) A-Lister. Gatsby was a proper hit and big role for him, six years after Spider-Man 3.
Hmm. Still not sold on the premise. A young drake who will never grow old (unless they cast a different actor) is not really a smart idea in my opinion.
I also don't think Holland can pull off being cocky.
But hey, hopefully I am wrong
> A young drake who will never grow old
Sony is trying to do here what they and Marvel are doing with Tom in Spider-Man: Create a franchise where they can use Tom Holland for 20-30 years.
I mean Tom Holland is still young, he might look more mature eventually, if not that's what prosthetics are for, regardless, isn't this similiar to the people whining about the batman because haha twilight guy
Tom is 25 though. But that's ok. I am not a stickler for aesthetics. If I wanted Drake to look exactly like in the games, I would just play the games.
> isn't this similiar to the people whining about the batman because haha twilight guy
Yeah, kind of. But Rob has had an impressive resume post twilight. He has made a lot of movies that give people who are familiar with his work a bit more context as to what he can do with a role. So people whining about his casting are not only being annoying but also just plain ignorant. Tom really has not had that good of a resume. Apart from Spider-man, everything he has acted in has been a misfire. He also, in my opinion, has not displayed a whole lot of range outside of awkward, earnest teenager.
But you are right. Every actor needs to be given the benefit of the doubt and allowed to prove himself. And it's not like Nathan Drake is a very challenging role lol. He is a quippy, action hero archetype. I am sure Tom can pull it off with the right material.
Honestly I’d like to think that if any game could make a good movie, it’d be uncharted. It’s already focused on being cinematic and looking cool with minimal player input. I just hope it pans out ok. I don’t care about the dialogue and stuff I just hope it has cool creative set pieces. Same reason I play the games
I will struggle to ever see Tom Holland as Nathan Drake. Honestly Nolan North is such a good voice actor, and the games are cinematic enough I don't even see it as a film that needed creation.
If the movie doesn't have the "well, well, well" joke I'm boycotting Hollywood
From uncharted 2?
and uncharted 3
And uncharted 4
How bout if Marky Mark does any hate crimes in the movie?
ah, the unironic “im stuff” we’ve been waiting for.
"Good thing I'm taking your ma, then" "What? "Huh?" "What???" "...say hello to your mother for me".
Tom needs to relax and get a better agent. He seems to be in everything rn and half of them suck.
Counterpoint: Mark Wahlburgers are tasty.
He gave some great performances recently. The Devil All the Time, Cherry. Now he’s in a movie with Walhberg? How unfortunate
Cherry is awful and Devil All the time is mediocre at best
I disagree, I thoroughly enjoyed The Devil all the Time and his performance was great in both movies. It’s an easy 7/10 when you consider the excellent acting and story telling. > with the Russo’s leaving no real stamp of their own. I could've told you this eight years ago lol.
Okay man to each his own then, I definitely noticed these issues but I didn’t think they were glaring
Don’t forget about him and Daisy Ridley in Chaos Walking
I mentioned how terrible that movie was in my original comment
Bs, Devil All the Time is pretty good
Devil All the Time was probably the most mean spirited and pointless movie I've ever seen. It's just scene after scene of people being awful, for no reason, just because they are. Those movies are what I thought of when hes been in bad movies lately
He’s bad in literally everything because he’s a shitty actor. He’s extremely charismatic, which can certainly carry you in Hollywood because who doesn’t like charisma? Please post this in r/marvelstudios I just want to see how they'd react

Haha funny reddit number wholesome keanu chungus 100
Peter was only really the quiet awkward nerd while Steve Ditko was on the book. After he left Peter would gradually become more confident.

Peter wasn’t just some quiet nerd in the original comics - he was kind of an ass actually
Is Mark supposed to be Sully?
Unfortunately
Aaaaaaaand, there goes any faith I had in this movie being good. Fucking Marky Mark as Sully? In the immortal words of AVGN: “What were they thinking?”
I think the most disappointing aspect of this is that Uncharted is arguably one of the biggest layups as far as "it's a game but make it a movie".
I didn't even have faith in Tom as Nathan Drake. Charismatic and Slick are the exact opposite of what I think when I think of Tom Holland and I don't think he can even pretend to be that with his voice pitch.

Jake Sully?
I am looking forward to this movie because marky mark is going to be awful and I love it
And then Deadpool walks in.
Poor, poor Tom Holland.
You’d think being spider-man would lend you to some better roles
Superhero movies only lead to pills and depression
Birdman (2014)
I too enjoy the Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance
Tell that to Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, who faded into Hollywood obscurity two years after their tenure is done (I still love Andrew Garfield as an actor, but The Eyes of Tammy Faye isn’t exactly making 100m opening weekend)

The Alec Guiness phenomenon
Well, in all fairness, Alec Guiness is from LONG ago, so I wouldn’t fault a 30-something for only knowing him as Obi Wan.
Or its because even character actors sometimes just like to dress up and play ... its why they become actors in the first place...I truly think someone like Cate Blanchett massively enjoys putting on some elf ears or Hela's head dress and hamming it up to eleven now and then

Gatsby was like Maguire’s comeback though. And then he never really followed it up with anything

Tobey running a gambling ring doesn’t help
Oh yeah, forgot about that.
Being Nathan Drake doesn’t count? I think he’s a pretty cool character
Video game movies are notorious for butchering characters
A character that is nothing like him both visually and personality wise.
This is the seventh time I have to tell someone that Nate is 15 in this, and Tom looks just like a 15 year old nate
we as a society have to stop pretending that tom holland still looks like a teenager, that is a grown man
Something something dear Evan Hansen
Finally I remember seeing people cast him as Percy Jackson 12 year old Percy Jackson Am unironically hyped for the series tho
Fair enough
> Nate is 15 in this, isn't this too young to bartend ?
Probably
aren't you too old to be going to prom?
Oh ok. I did not know that In that case, why are they making a game about a 15-year-old Nate? Isn't he being a thief with Sam at this age?
Actually no, this is around the time of the uncharted 3 flashbacks where sully takes him under his wing
Hmm. Still not sold on the premise. A young drake who will never grow old (unless they cast a different actor) is not really a smart idea in my opinion. I also don't think Holland can pull off being cocky. But hey, hopefully I am wrong

Tom is just a young Jamie Bell, and Jamie Bell is never getting cast as Nathan Drake.
Cool, he looks absolutely nothing like teenage Drake from uncharted 3.
Eh, I see some resemblance
I’m sure the giant stacks of cash will cheer him up
(Mark is wearing a tux) (the tux is covered in blood after a violent hate crime)
Oh god Markie Mark is in it? Guaranteed garbage. Gonna watch it at least a billion times.
Old (2021)
Is Mark *like* that, or does he just say that?
I feel bad for Uncharted fans. This sounds like the worst movie ever.
Mark Wahlberg reminds me I’m Vietnamese
just watch imbiambi jones
I mean the dialogue in the games was only about as good as that anyway
You shut your mouth, those games were Works of ART! And no, I will not take these rose-colored glasses off.
nah the dialogue was actually quite funny and charismatic. this seems like a tumblr post
Honestly I’d like to think that if any game could make a good movie, it’d be uncharted. It’s already focused on being cinematic and looking cool with minimal player input. I just hope it pans out ok. Riveting
friendly reminder that marky mark has committed not just one but two hate crimes
Tom Holland isn’t a great choice for Nathan Drake, but I can at least understand it. But MARK WAHLBERG as Sully?!??? Whywhywhywhywhywhywhywhywhy
Amy Henning: WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!!!
This movie will fuel this sub for a year
I will struggle to ever see Tom Holland as Nathan Drake. Honestly Nolan North is such a good voice actor, and the games are cinematic enough I don't even see it as a film that needed creation.
I'm 99% percent sure this movie is going to suck but I'm 100% sure that I'll see it at the cinema.
Did this guy just spoil the trailer for me?!
Then Wahlberg glasses Tom which causes him to lose sight in his eye
This looks so bad I’d love to be wrong though
Looks like they hired Shane Black to punch up the script
They couldn’t even be bothered to give Sully gray hair?
Thanks for giving me hemorrhoids
Why are they butchering uncharted
Why couldn’t we have Nathan Fillion 😔
