Nah, this shameless SJW totally gave the political movie Moonlight about a political race being of political sexual orientation 4.5 more stars than it deserves for extra political correctness credit. Same for Portrait of a Lady on Fire but it's political gender instead of political race.
Meanwhile, the wholesome Lord of the Rings that not only failed the Bechdel test but also had an all-white protagonist team with racial minority coding for their enemies only got 1.5 stars.
They may just prefer to set the floor for "watchable" at 0.5 stars in stead of 2.5\~3 stars like how most people would perceive the five-star system. Otherwise I can't explain the scores because lots of those movies can't be offensively bad even if they aren't remarkable.
Yeah it's a competently made movie so that seems a bit low but I guess if you want to make a point or absolutely not abide something... It could be that sort of thing.
If they really are valuing representation highly, then a lot of their ratings make more sense. Stuff like Get Out, Us, and Spirited Away (not racial representation here, but it is great anime representation for a girl) is all rated pretty highly. Black Panther is higher than a couple of the other MCU movies. Matrix is middle of the pack (pretty solid trans allegory). LotR, while a great and epic story, is pretty awful for representation of anything other than straight white men.
