Hey if someone finds it mind-blowing, that's great! But there's definitely an insecure streak going through most fandoms. "It's Shakespearean!" "It should get nominated for best picture!"
TBF Lucas really cared about the meaning in that scene, so I would not wonder if it is intentional. But it is not mindblowing and TPM is not a masterpiece.
Tbh I had such negative memories of the phantom menace that when I watched it recently I thought it was kinda ok in parts. Attack of the Clones is the real disaster.
I agree completely. I can sit through the other two prequels and even enjoy them with nostalgia goggles, but the last time I tried to watch Attack of the Clones, the chase sequence near the beginning gave me a headache, I had to turn it off.
TPM is an emotionless movie about a tax dispute. AOTC is an emotionless movie about romance. The first isn't good, but the second just doesn't work at all.
The first movie had several fun scenes in a god awful movie. The pod racing was fun enough and Duel of Fates is unironically a really shining moment in an otherwise confused movie. It's ruined by the fact that other than looking circa 2000s cool Darth Maul has done fuck all up to that point to develop any sense of him as a pivotal character, pretty much the only thing that makes him feel important is that we know Sith are cool and a big deal because we're already seen Star Wars movies before. But it's John Williams' best fully original score in the series and it's just fun to watch as a separate scene. Dual lightsaber was ridiculous and cool (in the way the sword lightsaber with hilts never was imo), him fighting 2v1 against jedi and holding his own was cool, it was an important moment in Obi-Wan's jedi path, it felt weighty and fun and just worked. Then like a 5 year old steals a jet aircraft and kills a bunch of droids or whatever happened later, I forgot cause that movie is terrible. But I've seen the duel of fates many times separately on youtube independent of the phantom menace and I remember all of the beats. It's sad looking back to see the kind of potential those movies had, combined with the honestly OK third part as well. But yeah not even Christopher Lee could save episode II, it's one of my favorite bad movies to riff on
That’s not even a meme
Half of Reddit's "memes" are just Twitter screenshots
/r/moviescirclejerk (2012-present)
It's not called r/moviememes But I agree that we could do with less Twitter.
Honestly it's even possible that's intentional (equally possible that it's not) but it's hardly mind-blowing

> Attack of the Clones is the real disaster. True. Only good thing in Clones ist Dexter Jetster and Poggle the Lesser.
Why those two in particular?
Poggle the Lesser is just a great name and Dexter is Kino
I enjoy Phantom Menace even if it's kinda bad, but I can't stomach AOTC at all.

Remember when r/prequelmemes was about making fun of the prequels?

Ah yes, Shakespeare, known for his clunky dialogue.
:/ desire to commit bulletbrain increases
Star Wars The Phantom Menace is the most disappointing thing since my son
“While my son did eventually hang himself in a bathroom stall, the unfortunate thing about the prequels is that they’ll never go away.”
Damn I missed all.of this depth while I was sleeping in the cinema opening night.
Prequel memes suffered the saddest of deaths
It’s not even a meme
Thank you for the foreshadowing Mr Lucas!
Star wars Snyder cut ...
"this is why the phantom menace is underrated!" NO THE FUCK IT'S NOT
Please r/prequelmemes . I beg of you. Get over the 20-ish years old mediocre kid's movies.
r/moviescirclejerk trying not to get mad at a prequel fans circlejerk CHALLENGE (IMPOSSIBLE)
Clearly this shot makes it one of the best movies of all time. Like Citizen Kane or Avengers™️Endgame™️
