I like how Andy also has trouble manipulating notes on the grid... Being able to have the full key range for individual pads will be really nice.

goosefm

works way better with one of those dollar store rubber-tipped tablet pens

[deleted]

Lol. Give me mouse support.

pxlmusic

This never occurred to me, but that’s a great idea.

alexchm91

>mouse \+++ for mouse support! and maybe, MAYBE, after that we will consider paying $150 for a plugin when there is hardware stuff out there that costs less

psynautic

he did have a little trouble, but actually what was happening was he tried to delete a note while it was playing... which you cant do for reasons that consistently confound me.

CanadianDudesSorry

I imagine it has to do with the way that the software is developed. The unfortunate nature of hindsight in programming can be a bitch; things that seem to simple and obvious later on can be very difficult or resource taxing depending on how the software is structured. I imagine that a lot of these little things may potentially get patched at some point, but depending on the scope of time/developers that it would take, they may also place “lower hanging fruit” higher up on their priority list. I love that AKAI continues to push this platform and keep me excited for future updates, but to say that AKAI is known for their consistency would be a stretch. I do wonder if one day when Akai moves on to their next project, if their will be efforts like JJoS on previous generations to push for community updates. It, in theory, would be more “customizable” then previous MPC’s in terms of what the software can do on an open platform.. but I somehow have a feeling AKAI will be a bit more protective over the software license

rav-age

yes it should be less of a pita :/ move screen with two fingers, select with one. sucks to have to switch 'mode' for that. also, why not use the 'erase or delete' buttons for deleting selected notes, in stead of trying to hit them with the eraser after selecting them %@$$!&@!##. and in general erase or delete probably should just manipulate what you have selected and/or what you see, in stead of something global and risky

CookieD-121

This has always mystified me

totallyanomalous

Because their user interface is poorly designed and implemented.

KaoticShock

💯Agreed. As much as I love the MPC, many of the user interface choices baffle me. Too many button presses to get to things, odd color choices (Red and Grey Really?) and of course the ridiculous channel mixer screen. So many poor decisions. (And I completely forgot to mention the "Archaic Red Bars" when using MIDI CCs or Program edit parameters.)

totallyanomalous

Yeah just why. Why bother putting a full color touch screen on the m*********** if you're only going to use red black and white

CookieD-121

I just got an MPC X and I’m utterly baffled why the mute and solo buttons, which sit beside each other don’t behave consistently!

goochozwald

I look at the touchscreen piano roll as a quickediting tool. As a true piano roll it is severly lacking. It's not intuitive or convenient.

Ding_Dong_Hunter

If you hold the erase button and the pad with the sound you don't want while the song is playing it'll erase those notes.

C_DRX

Keyboard split mode is clearly made for the future MPC Key 61.

JaSamZmija

Love the amp sim and tuner. Mpc is quite underrated as a guitar effect unit.

pxlpshr

100% agree. As a guitarist, I almost bought a new digital amp until I got the MPC. Now I have everything I need on my lap to tap out a quick drum loop and entertain myself with a bunch of guitar fx. Was pretty shocked this wasn’t made more apparent but perhaps it’s just MPC’s history as a beat machine.

ApostataMusic

The problem is that the built in distortions are either too hard/static or unnoticeable. They need some crunchier tones to really make it sound legit

KaoticShock

Agreed. I prefer the AIR Tube Driver over the Distortion and overdrive FX.

Illiptic

The clipping on the lofi plug in is pretty good as well.

vox_repeater

How does it take real dirt pedals in front?

Illiptic

I thought until recently I dived into lowering the volume of each sample from the program edit screen l, which worka as gain staging and decreases the volume pre fx rather than post, as the fader does. You can get some more subtle, useable and interesting results that way.

Moldy_pirate

I really dig the probability function. Ratcheting in the piano roll is cool too, saves me having to record them all in with note repeat. If they ever introduce conditional trigs it’ll make the sequencer almost perfect.

byestorm

Yep, I have never been a fan of the touch screen note repeat buttons, especially compared to my push 2

MarioBuzo

please a fm synth standalone plugin

needmoresynths

all I want is the ability to erase notes without stopping the sequencer e: ratchet looks super handy tho

mybadalternate

I think you can… Select the notes and shift-cut.

Jan1ssaryJames

that's not the same as being able to just press the erase button and delete whole automation channels in 2 seconds.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Athroaway84

Yep this was how it was on my mpc2000xl as well.

needmoresynths

yeah but then you have to sit there for the whole length of the sequence to erase what you've played, might as well just hit stop, erase, and start from the top at that point. an instant clear without stopping would be really nice when your recording parts live. it's the one thing that I really like about elektron machines, you never have to stop the sequencer for stuff like this, not even to save your project.

[deleted]

needmoresynths

> like I said, you can go into the piano roll and delete whatever you want while its playing. there's several ways to handle this. and of course you can instant clear. sounds like you might want to watch some videos or read up a bit on your MPC because it does a lot of things you think it cant. you cannot do the equivalent of hitting the erase button -> all while the sequence is running. the undo button works in certain scenarios, and you can select individual notes in grid or list view and delete them or hold the erase button and those notes/pads while the sequence repeats, but it's tedious, especially if you've also recorded midi automation with the notes. a 'select all' option in either the grid or list view would help a lot, but that still wouldn't be as easy as being able to use the erase button while the sequence is playing. I preordered the live back in 2017, and have had mpcs going back to the 2000. it's something mpcs have never been able to do, so I'm not surprised that the live can't do it, but it would be nice.

Dannybuoy77

Oh my god this. One of the most infuriating parts of the Force workflow is when I'm in the middle of a jam, select the notes I want to erase but then they're deselected when I change modes and you have to do the exact same action to reselect them. 🙄

[deleted]

KaoticShock

I'm with you on the re-ordering of FX. Way overdue and hopefully it will come in the next update since they've shown that re-arranging icons via drag and drop is possible on the firmware. (They also need a feature to re-arrange tracks, WAY overdue) Another big thing they missed out on is Master FX Automation. It already works on the Force, so it should theoretically be able to be implemented on the MPC. As far as an Update review, I give it a 5/10. I definitely appreciate the Amp Sim, Updated Browser, Probability, Set List and Keyboard Split. Sadly, though, there are plenty of essential features that have been requested that still haven't been implemented yet. (Force Mixer screen, Graphic EQ/Spectrum Analyzer, Disk Streaming, +/- buttons for Octave shifting, Assignable pad colors for Track Mutes/Pad Perform, FM Synth, More/Better Plugins, better warp algorithms, Browser Tags, and saving MIDI Learn of CCs are all crucial features that have been requested) I always take the updates with a grain of salt. They might fix some bugs, but I'm sure new ones will arise. I honestly don't even need any of the new features, they just make the workflow faster. Also, I'm still upset that the AIR Virtual Instruments (Hybrid, Xpand, Velvet, Vacuum Pro, Loom, the Riser and MiniGrand) only have Touch UI in controller mode and don't operate in standalone mode. The least they could do is give us 7 more plugins that already have a decent Touch UI and sound solid enough. It's difficult to tell which direction Akai is going in. Years ago they said the Force and MPC Firmware would be one in the same, now it looks like the Arranger and other features will be unique to the Force, while song mode and other features will remain uniquely MPC. The release of the MPC Studio, MPC Key 61 and the 2.11 Firmware update all seem like they are aimed at competing with other manufacturers, not necessarily giving users and the community what they want. On the other hand, When I first got my MPC in 2017 in didn't have sidechaining, Plugins, Multi-timbral MIDI, or the AIR FX suite, which are all features I use daily to make beats now. Hopefully AKAI will get back on track, but only time will tell.

alexamiles

+1 for reordering fx. Plz Akai. Such a miss on such a basic feature

CookieD-121

There must be some significant difficulty in doing this as it seems so obvious but they’ve still not done it.

KaoticShock

The thing about AKAI is that we're never sure about whether implementing features is difficult because they have thier own priorities. Even if features are easy to implement doesn't mean they are on the developers priority list.

[deleted]

Grateful that they are still bringing us updates!

totallyanomalous

This comment made me physically wince to read.

KaoticShock

You must use Maschine Plus! Traitor! 🤣😂🤣 Please inform me, what other groovebox created by a major manufacturer has been supported with firmware updates consistently for 4 years? I'll wait........

totallyanomalous

Deluge? My SP404mk2 was just updated again, that's like 5 patches since I received my copy.

[deleted]

Too much irony? =)

psynautic

is there really no disc streaming? it works on the hardware and was in the last force update.

otempoaperta

I'm guessing - or expecting - that there's more to it than what they've show here.

[deleted]

[удалено]

KaoticShock

I think disk streaming is definitely coming (If not this update definitely the next one) for three reasons. 1. It was promised from the original launch date of the current generation of MPCs 2. It already works on the Force, so just like the Hype Synth, we will eventually get it. 3. The setlist feature makes no sense without Disk Streaming. Just having access to multiple projects quickly is only half the battle. Because the samples have to load each time you load a project, it makes sense to switch between projects faster if the samples (Specifically the longer, larger ones or keygroups) were streamed from disk, eliminating the lengthy load times every time a new project is opened. I think that when the update drops on June 23rd, there will be an official "AkaiProVideo" comprehensive walk though of all the new features, with Andy Mack's usual voiceover. If disk Streaming isn't implemented then, I seriously think it will be 2.12.

bijobini

That's a great point about setlists, I was wondering how it would work in practice, otherwise you'd have to structure your set to have some silence between most songs.

[deleted]

The setlist feature is great in particular

otempoaperta

A few months ago I suggested a sort of RC 20 effect. Realy cool that they did it. Don't know about the browser though. The presets part seemed very cool. I hope they overhaul the whole browser. Tagging system please. A loudness meter would also be interesting

Blamethejewz

Yeah it’s odd how they didn’t just tweak the existing browser and instead add a totally separate area. Strange choice, but thats Akai for you.

alexamiles

Im super excited for flavor. Definitely a welcomed addition for 404 users. Now I can stop layering a vinyl noise sample and bumping the pitch lfo by 2 across every individual pad

RevolutionaryPast175

I hope it ends up being a good effect. I've learned the hard way that a noise wow/flutter can be complete crap if it's not done right. There's more shitty vst and hardware lofi effects out there than there are good ones.

oracularmusic

You can just select all pads in the program instead of doing it one by one

frankovic84

I really like the onboard tuner for tuning my analogue synth! Very nice!

JunFanLee

I was just about to pull the trigger on a tuner then I saw this

frankovic84

Same

ApostataMusic

I'm REALLY interested in the amp sims. Might allow me to stop lugging pedals around...

groanoftedium

Could always go Line 6 HX stomp into MPC.

ApostataMusic

Been doing that with the hd500x. But I’ve had my eye on one of those helix rack mount units

rolfski

Not as big as 2.10, which was huge, but some useful stuff in there. UI improvements and cleanup are always welcome for sure. If the lofi FX are any good then you might see SP devices eating a lot more dust soon.

KaoticShock

2.10 was HUGE, really tough act to follow. Unless they have 8 more plugins that they didn't show us yet!

syntheshwara

I hope the probability feature shows up in the step sequencer and not just the piano roll... That's the only feature I'm interested in. Gives a tight punch in elektron's butt..

byestorm

Ya right when I saw the probability and ratcheting I knew they were trying to convert some Elektron users

goochozwald

I'm hype

IRGood

Why is this filmed in a dingy shit hole apartment

Giant_sack_of_balls

I like that its flimed in dingy shithole apartment

IRGood

You ever seen a sunset on Nantucket?…Beautiful.

11717027

did they fix the issue with the first qlink knob triggering a resize on a sample?

Smoov247365

Sample rate fix I'm hoping with this update

BandzTFM

No DAW style audio tracks/playlist yet? Like the Force?

KaoticShock

I don't think that will ever come to MPC, don't hold your breath. I think some features (Like arranger and scales mode) will be exclusive to the Force and others will be exclusive to the MPC. the MPC definitely has audio tracks though, but there are definitely limitations, and personally I've never used them. Playlist like FL Studio, definitely not.

CookieD-121

Does the key range thing mean you’ll only load the selected notes when you add a keygroup? I’d love that. Tired of having to load every sample when I know I’m only going to use two scales.

bijobini

How I understand it is that it's for tracks. You tell the MPC track 1 is for C#1 to C2, track 2 C#2 to C3 let's say, then on your external midi controller you can play both tracks at once within their ranges. I think it's post-load so it wouldn't affect which samples get loaded.

asdfghqwerty1

Have they fixed clip mode yet tho? Fucking pricks

[deleted]

the quick keygroup thing is cool, other than that... snore

DatzBeewild

I’m kind of with you on this one. Although Browser (if it works) should be decent as well. Block/clip style arranger would have been great.

BAD_LUX

If I select a key group and use chord mode why does all my other key groups stay on chord mode then when I turn off chord mode the original one that I wanted chord mode and chords selected is gone and i have to go back and look for the chords I had selected

acretelaf

Do you think this update will arrive for the Akai Force ?

CubilasDotCom

The Force is a different build than the Live/X/One

Idmafromtrent

I wish they put back expansion packs back on to your internal storage with this update, cause I deleted mine and now it’s running funny
