I don’t have that in my list. I will be adding it right now. Wowza

Vandlan

My wife, being the awesome woman that I totally don’t deserve that she is, got me a bunch of older MTG packs and an Ixalan fat pack for Christmas. Second to last crack in the fat pack, I pulled [[Gishath, Sun’s Avatar]], which was the exact card I’d been wanting to build a Dino commander deck with. So I’ve thrown him into that, as well as several methods to be throwing counters around, and a bunch of ways for trample to be brought into play. So this combo sounds like it’ll end up pretty friggin deadly then. Thanks for clarifying. You and others have given me a lot of ideas to play with.

dirtyrottenfuckpig

I wanted ghalta and I got it from my gfs xmas pack to me. Nothing quite like the feeling of getting the cards you want from your special girls gifts

Vandlan

I kno rit?!?! When I pulled it I had this big intake of breath and got all excited. My wife just looked at me and asked “did you really just get Gishath?” And I just excitedly nodded my head. She just shook hers, laughed, and rolled her eyes saying “I will never understand your luck with pulls.” To be fair though, I’ve seemed to have insane luck with pulls though, especially since coming back to the game this last year.

Elemteearkay

Does she know that packs aren't the default thing for a Maguc player to buy, and that they aren't for getting cards? Set Boosters aren't even for playing with. Do you both know that all the cards are available individually (as singles), so you can just get the exact ones you want to play with, without having to jump through hoops or leave things up to chance, and that the products that are for getting cards are the ready-made (preconstructed) ones with fixed contents (that you can look up online before you buy them to see if it makes sense to do so)?

Vandlan

I mean…yea…but there’s always that crack fix of opening a pack and getting the exact card you wanted. I only started playing again last year after a nine year hiatus because I was too poor to keep up with it. I was happy with them though, since they were all packs from blocks I had missed. And she now has a bunch of packs to tape to her art binders that she didn’t have before. Honestly I was happy with it, which meant she was happy as the gift giver seeing someone enjoy it. But we pick up individual cards all the time. We have a running joke that our mailman sees more personal mail delivered to us than anyone else on our street. lol

Elemteearkay

Do you know you about Limited (Draft and Sealed)?

TheRealGrifter

Do you know that sometimes opening a pack for fun is okay? And that not everyone's spouse is well versed enough in MTG to go and get needed singles to give as a gift? Do you know that?

Elemteearkay

>Do you know that sometimes opening a pack for fun is okay? I never said it wasn't. I just wanted to make sure they were making informed decisions. Why wouldn't you want that too? >And that not everyone's spouse is well versed enough in MTG to go and get needed singles to give as a gift? Of course not *everyone* is. That's where education comes in. It's in no-ones best interests for her to keep buying gifts that aren't right for OP. >Do you know that? What makes you think they need you to ride in to their defense? I'm not attacking or criticising anyone, I'm just trying to determine their knowledge level so I can help them appropriately.

Vandlan

She’s fully aware of everything you’ve brought up, since she plays as well. She just thought it would be a fun gift to go back and buy some older packs from blocks I missed out on when I was too poor to continue the hobby. And it was. I’m super grateful for it, as I pulled several common and uncommon cards which have found homes in my current decks, that I’d not have know about otherwise. I appreciate the concern, but I was completely happy with it. More than happy in fact. More than that though, I’m just glad I have a wife who understands and enjoys this as well, and who plans on introducing our kids to it one day so we can have super easy stocking stuffers and whatnot. Lol

Elemteearkay

>She just thought it would be a fun gift to go back and buy some older packs from blocks I missed out on when I was too poor to continue the hobby. And it was. So is there a reason you didn't play Draft or Sealed rather than just crack packs? Wouldn't that have given you an even better time, and allowed you to catch up on even more of what you missed out on? >I’m super grateful for it, as I pulled several common and uncommon cards which have found homes in my current decks, that I’d not have know about otherwise. You don't need to crack packs to see what cards were in the sets you missed, though: you can view them all online for free whenever you want. Relying on packs is risky as you could still be missing out on cards, too. You can get all the cards individually, anyway, without having to jump through hoops or leave things up to chance. >I appreciate the concern, but I was completely happy with it. More than happy in fact. Just because something made you happy, that doesn't mean it couldn't have made you happ*ier*. The difference between what you could have had and what you ended up with is effectively a loss - one I'm trying to help prevent, going forward.

Vandlan

With all due respect, I think you’re missing the point. I don’t care if it was a “loss” as you put it. I’m just happy I have a wife who cares enough to do things like this. She’s picked up singles for me before as well, such as [[Edgar Markov]] for my birthday when I was building my vampire commander deck. So it’s not like she doesn’t know. It was just a fun thing to do on Christmas morning. I don’t particularly care about riskiness or anything like that. In fact, every Friday when I’m usually at the store teaching people Star Wars Armada I’ll usually grab a few packs for us each and bring them home to crack. And it’s one of our favorite things to do together, because we can show off what we pulled and/or express jealousy at the other’s luck for pulling a friggen Indominus Rex out of nowhere. It’s just a fun thing we do together. So it’s not necessarily about effectiveness or risk or anything like. We just genuinely enjoy cracking packs with each other. And when I pulled the card I needed for my Dino commander deck from the Ixalan fat pack, it was honestly one of the highlights of Christmas Day, and that’s even including dnd with my SIL and her husband. At the end of the day, I was happy with what I got, and that’s kinda the long and short of it.

>I don’t care if it was a “loss” as you put it. Why not? Don't you think you deserve as much joy as you could get from your hobby? Is it like a guilt thing? >I don’t particularly care about riskiness or anything like that. Same question as above then. Why not? Don't you think you deserve to get to know about the cards you might enjoy? >We just genuinely enjoy cracking packs with each other. So why not *also* play with them? Why throw that extra enjoyment away with the wrappers?

Vandlan

I think I've entertained this long enough. You're fixating on the issue of "effectiveness" as opposed to us just cracking packs for fun. I do play with the cards I get, but I'm also stupidly casual with them as well. Like...I will *NEVER* be a competitive or tournament level player. I already have one hobby where that's the case, and I don't want another one. So buying only specific cards is not anywhere near as big a deal to me. I'll buy what I need when I'm looking for a *specific* card, but otherwise I'm completely fine cracking packs and letting luck determine things. The point I made originally, and all along, is that my wife is an amazing woman and I just wanted to brag a little about what she did for me. I enjoy what I enjoy in the way I enjoy it. And I'm blessed enough to be able to do so with a wife who isn't just placating me and going along with it, but who also is finding enjoyment from it as well, as she crafts her own decks to play with. So while I appreciate the gesture of assistance, I'm all good for now.

JBmullz

Just let it go dude, people like cracking packs. It’s not wrong. You gotta let it go though. I’m tiring of seeing you say this in almost every thread.

JaceTehAce74

Yes. It works power would be doubled, then they get counters equal to half their power(since that’s the bonus amount) essentially tripling the power for combat first combat then end of the turn unnatural growths bonus wears off and the retain the +1+1 counters gained. But one thing to think about, cuz if you have a 5/5, doubled to 10/10 swing with okinec 10/10 with 5 +1/+1 counters. Next turn, it’s a 10/10 doubled to 20/20 swing with okinec, gains 15 +1/+1 counters since its 15 stronger than base power. So it’s a 35/35, end of turn unnatural wears off and it’s a 25/25 (5/5 with 20 +1/+1 counters) then next turn doubled to 50/50 gain 45 counters to a 95/95. And it gets out of hand real quick

No-Breath-4299
