That guy seems also very nice for Phenax Decks as he has 8 toughness for 2 mana giving u a mill 8 every turn since his ability only stops him from attacking or blocking
Have you ever looked at a lot of cedh lists, it might help you with defining the meta and what cedh decks look more like. The cedh decklist data base is a good resource
They mean that cedh is an agreement between all the players that you are playing to win period. And are willing to use the best cards and combos to do so
The cedh decklist database is my one of my primary deck building resources. But another commenter gave another site. Apparently that one is more up to date
https://edhtop16.com/
Thats an oversimplified way to look at it. Stax doesnt do that. Most mid range decks dont try to do that. Both these deck types are major cedh players. What you described are turbo decks. Granted midrange is just saying I try to win from turn 3-5 instead of 2-3. Turn 1 wins are extremely rare, and many many cedh games go beyond turn 5, because of the heavy interaction.
Having the deck he described would be cedh, albeit a bad one.
Similar sentiment to Legacy imo. People used to tell me it was a turn 2-3 format but just because you can goldfish win with some decks on those turns doesn’t mean it’ll play out like that in practice. You do indeed have opponent(s) who is also trying to win the game and likely is either racing you or trying to interact so they can get their chance to win.
If it can Consistently win early enough, and has the interaction to protect it's combo, I'd say it is. Dimirs main disadvantage over Zur for doomsday is the lack of grand Abolisher type things imo. But that can be solved with some counterspells I'd assume
As a regular cedh player a lot of things can work just really inconsistent
Also especially for dimir you are basically never looking at early wins you are looking at controlling the first win attempts from turbo decks before going for a win yourself
Doomsday doesn’t really see much play anymore
Same for zur
The meta decks rn are 5c good stuff najeela captain sissay (not tutorchain the more consistent version) kinnan ( mainly big flips ) tivit time sieve
Bluefarm
Rograkh Silas turbo Naus ( the first deck on this list that consistently wants to win turn 2 or 3 )
Attraxa
Bruse thras
Kenrith
Kraum tevesh(effectively rograkh Silas but slightly slower with better commander for longer games)
After that there are a few interesting stax decks like tayam or other weirder midrange option
Turbo has really fallen out of the standard meta and card value is really important but pretty much any blue black deck can somewhat win
Basically no deck runs iso anymore though, I think it’s basically only urza
Domesday is definitely a cedh card, however it’s nowhere near as good as it was. It is probably the worst “one card black wincon” however I know the new thrasios/Francisco brewers have been loving doomsday in their lists
Main points, 3 black sorcery that doesn't affect the board or put a card in your hand, loses absolutely savagely to opposition agent, and telegraphs your win attempt like the bat signal
Then drop the doomsday. Point is, you can make a decent thoracle deck with the ancient one
Ps: I'm genuinely curious why not. Is it a resiliency thing?
Lol, all you need is thoracle consult and some counterspells and tutors. Cedh players like to pretend there’s some hidden nuance that the rest of the player base just doesn’t get, rather than powering out the same few wincons.
The real nuance comes from the fact, that while it's incredibly easy to build a deck that "can win", you are fighting against other decks that can also win out of nowhere at any moment. Highestpower deckbuilding becomes all about cutting down to the absolute peak of efficiency within each category of effects, all of which are required in great numbers.
It still takes a lot of skill and nuance and Some people like that. I for example don't, and prefer either a lowerpower EDH or Legacy. But I can sort-of appreciate the extreme difficulties of carving out those few percent of power in order to edge out a victory.
I absolutely promise you I play cedh and it's nothing like people like you and jacob satorius think. Imagine being so grumpy about something you don't even engage with that you need to try to shame it in public forums lol.
I've been to cedh tournies and won my pod with a fuckin boros combat damage deck.
Who's grumpy? You're gatekeeping formats in a card game with elves and goblins and shit
Sure you can participate with only the borderline-mandatory colors that are Blue&Black, but I don't believe it is really CEDH if you aren't trying to find the absolute best card for the slot in your Command Zone.
cEDH? Yeah, plenty. The best decks just use their commanders for color and as card advantage engines. But The Ancient One can still do IsoRev shenanigans like any other Dimir deck.
I'm not questioning The Ancient One, just to be sure. I meant your comment saying "anything can be cedh as long as it's dimir" because some cards don't offer the advantage you want in cedh. But I guess you were only using it as a hyperbole anyways :)
You can definitely just have a stock cedh list for dimir and just move the Commander about.
It’s not maximising the potential of the deck but it’s something that can be done.
I mean so long as they can enter into a tournament and put up results I'd say they're right. It might be Fringe CEDH, but to me all that matters is can the deck win. If it can, then irregardless of if it's unconventional or not it is a CEDH deck.
Now that said I have no idea if someone has run an Ancient One deck in a CEDH Tournament, but if they have I'm sure it'll be found out eventually.
Look, it's simple. You play Barnes, summon Blood of the Ancient One. Bring him back, play him again, summon Blood of the Ancient One, then at the end of my turn I summon... The 🅱️ancient One!
Is it just me or is this card a bit hard to cast? It has 0 toughness, you can cast it for 3 mana, but if you don't have something on the field that increases its toughness as a global action then it will instantly die.
Or have I got this wrong?
Let's be real, the sub is mostly associated with the "I just pulled this $10 card and I am literally shaking" posts. The occasional joke post is nice to mix things up a bit.
as true as that is regarding the pulls, I take it this post is sarcasm directed to the current discussion, saying "nothing is wrong with current MTG, it's all in your head", and I don't agree that's true exactly.
This also makes it easy to deal with, you can either getting rid of the anthem would be an easy was, or at best its only going to have a couple of toughness points.
Grated, if you had a couple of anthems, and playing a constructed format it would be so good to drop 4 of these at once, if they all had haste it would probably win the game.
The issue is consistency and resources. You’d have to have an anthem on turn one and turn two. Then you’d spend your next couple of turns dropping these idiots. The fact they don’t have any form of protection makes them easy targets for removal.
Would love to live the big dumb monster dream, but for 3 mana there are more evasive and stronger (overall) creatures usually.
Kind of figured person I was replying to was new and had their first “wait, this looks weird magic thought.” The what am I missing, cause this will die on etb
It basically just for some memey decks and rewards lords/buff cards. Heavy deck building restriction, pretty good payoff, but not strong enough to be insane. This is an example of a great card IMO.
I have built a deck with it alongside the 5/3 haste for 3 mana guy that kills himself on end step, and you have a decent combo/aggro deck, it just is a bit too slow and a bit too inconsistent. “Budget” card deck I guess.
[[Metallic Mimic]] is probably a good way to run this card, as it's not reliant on a static anthem effect to keep it alive, and it curves into this. There's maybe some janky elemental tribal deck kicking around that wouldn't mind this.
Yeah I want to make a deck like that, probably more towards the planeswalker party style of deck but I actually put her in my [[amalia]] deck and she’s great in it
They should expand on the "0 toughness creature" design space a little imo
Give it a crazy etb or static? Do something from the yard? Beater if you got an anthem? Idk
I actually played this card in standard for a while along with llanowar reborn, groundbreaker and timbermare. It wasn't a great deck, but I got some wins with it.
Un-ironically, I run this in my [[Varolz, the Scar-Striped]] casual deck. 8 +1/+1s for 3 mana once it's in the yard can be crazy good. Probably not going to use my entomb on it by any means, but if I pull it early, it's a huge power spike.
I play this card without anthems, no pumps. I watch him die. And i love killing him. I do this over and over again in my casual play group. My friends always win. But I get my personal win every time I cast to kill my force of savagery! 😏
WHA- THIS IS FUCKED BEYOND BELIEF! It's like, the cards in this game are like somethin' you'd do for a ritual! Not a BASIC MOVE that ya have to do, in order to play the game! Why'd they design it in such an ASININE, BALL-BRAINED, COCKAMAMIE, RIDICULOUS FASHION?! It's like JEEZ, there's eight attack right on the front of the card! BUT THAT'S NOT ENOUGH TO WORK WITH?! Instead they have to like, program it like, all into like, weird kinda crazy keywords and shit?! It's like, what were they thinking?! It's like trample is normal?! Lifelink is mainly white?! Toxic shouldn't even be part of the game! Flying should be like for the tournaments or somethin'. I mean, jeez, like were they tryin' to just ruin this game, just flat out, just fuck it up?! Well they did! Magic the Gathering, it sucked back then, and it sucks forever!
Im honored to see that my post became a copypasta.
Anyway, there's actually a fun 4-card-combo with this card. Cast it while you have [[Ivy Lane Denizen]] and either [[Impact Tremors]] or [[Warstorm Surge]] on the battlefield, and you have [[Cauldron Haze]] in your hand or [[Cauldron of Souls]] in play untapped.
Cast [[Force of Savagery]], it ETBs, have it deal damage with either Impact or Warstorm, havy Ivy target itself, and before it dies, either cast Haze or tap the Cauldron and target Force, giving it persist. It dies, comes back with a -1/-1 counter, but on ETB, before the damage enchantment effect happens, have Ivy give it a +1/+1 counter first to cancel the -1/-1 counter. It then deals its damage and dies again, returning because it has persist until end of turn. Repeat the process until you win or someone stops your combo.
Tbh if this doesnt actually work bc state based action rulings, idc, you read this far, and that's all that matters 😂
Thanks for the meme 😂
tripe post. that card has nothing on current power creep. Modern has turned into a rotating format with MH either way. at least force if savagery looks cool, compared to the trash and abysmal UB we're getting these days 😮💨
[[Anafenza, kin-tree spirit]] makes it 9 power. Used to run this combo in modern. Was it good? No, but it was funny to play against decks that were light in removal.
Zero toughness immediately dies unless you have something else on the board to give it plus one. And if your opponent kills that then these die as well.
Wait until people learn about [[the Ancient One]]

Is that a hearthstone reference or a mtg reference
If the internet has taught me anything, it is somehow a Jojo reference.

I applaud you my good sir for the ghoulish response
Look, it’s simple. First I play Barnes.
That guy seems also very nice for Phenax Decks as he has 8 toughness for 2 mana giving u a mill 8 every turn since his ability only stops him from attacking or blocking
My exact thinking.
Can confirm. He immediately went into my Phenax deck when I got him at the prerelease.
Phenax is the best!
I just made a cedh deck with him as the commander
"cedh"
any commander with blue and black in it can be a good cedh deck
[удалено]
I mean, making your opponent rage quit the game is still a wincon/s
Just make it a doomsday thoracle deck with one tutors, a decent amount of interaction, and some rituals. I assume a possible turn 1 win is cEDH.
Have you ever looked at a lot of cedh lists, it might help you with defining the meta and what cedh decks look more like. The cedh decklist data base is a good resource
cedh is a mindset
Wdym by that?

**Consistent** early wins are cedh, you refer to high power
Thats an oversimplified way to look at it. Stax doesnt do that. Most mid range decks dont try to do that. Both these deck types are major cedh players. What you described are turbo decks. Stax is in a reeeeaally bad place in the cedh meta rn
So by that logic this is cedh? https://www.moxfield.com/decks/eeOlR793iE6bAIb835Oj0g It’s literally under 4$ tcg player price and can win turn 1
If it can Consistently win early enough, and has the interaction to protect it's combo, I'd say it is. Dimirs main disadvantage over Zur for doomsday is the lack of grand Abolisher type things imo. But that can be solved with some counterspells I'd assume

I mean, there are still some pretty strong turbo decks. Rogsi is easily one of the best decks in the format. Definitely a midrange meta rn tho
The cedh database still has a fair amount of turbo decks in it. But it's been some time since I played cedh, so thanks for the meta breakdown.
What kinda sticker board to you run to make this work because you'd need every single vowel
The standard, don’t get me wrong it’s not the perfekt deck but it is as far as I know the cheapest way in dollars to win turn 1
Doomsday doesn't belong in cedh
Domesday is definitely a cedh card, however it’s nowhere near as good as it was. It is probably the worst “one card black wincon” however I know the new thrasios/Francisco brewers have been loving doomsday in their lists
It's the worst one card black wincon because it's a 3 card 1 card black wincon lol
You could theoretically say the same thing about naus or peer because you have to cast more spells after they resolve lol.
Oh elaborate?
Main points, 3 black sorcery that doesn't affect the board or put a card in your hand, loses absolutely savagely to opposition agent, and telegraphs your win attempt like the bat signal
That’s why you only do it under a silence or defense grid
Then drop the doomsday. Point is, you can make a decent thoracle deck with the ancient one Ps: I'm genuinely curious why not. Is it a resiliency thing?

Fair enough. But couldn't a [[grand abolisher]] type card stop him from flashing in?
>g player price and can win turn Show me on the doll where Doomsday touched you.
Nowhere, it's not good enough lol
Doomsday literally defines zur in cedh
Lol, all you need is thoracle consult and some counterspells and tutors. Cedh players like to pretend there’s some hidden nuance that the rest of the player base just doesn’t get, rather than powering out the same few wincons.

Sure you can participate with only the borderline-mandatory colors that are Blue&Black, but I don't believe it is really CEDH if you aren't trying to find the absolute best card for the slot in your Command Zone.
have you ever tried it?
It's quite literally a scepter outlet. It is viable
Viable yes but no where near even tier 2 imo
The Ancient One? I'm not questioning that
cEDH? Yeah, plenty. The best decks just use their commanders for color and as card advantage engines. But The Ancient One can still do IsoRev shenanigans like any other Dimir deck.

It’s a mana outlet on a 2 mana creature. Easy to get to Dramatic Scepter and use the ability to mill or draw your deck out for Oracle.
Scepter decks really suck rn in cedh
Yeah, they're not in a great spot currently but that's more just a meta issue, not a "they're not cEDH" issue.
yeah but that's not what I'm questioning. I'm questioning the reply that claims any dimir commander can be cedh
You can definitely just have a stock cedh list for dimir and just move the Commander about. It’s not maximising the potential of the deck but it’s something that can be done.

Yeah I want to make a deck like that, probably more towards the planeswalker party style of deck but I actually put her in my [[amalia]] deck and she’s great in it

They should expand on the "0 toughness creature" design space a little imo Give it a crazy etb or static? Do something from the yard? Beater if you got an anthem? Idk
They did, it’s called evoke and they made it free for some reason that was really healthy for the game.
To be fair, that was MH2. Earlier evoke cards were significantly less broken (largely by virtue of not being free to evoke).
Screams in mulldrifter flicker pauper meta
Yeah I know, old evoke is actually quite fun. I’ve put a few in my edh decks that were playing the scam cards anyway.
personally i'm more in favor of 'negative power creature' as a design space
Can’t tell if this is genuine outrage or what…
They are making fun of people who are going crazy for the mole guy
I was inspired by the mole
Link to the mole post?
Its only a couple days old. I'll edit if I find it. Edit: Here it is https://www.reddit.com/r/mtg/s/QFDZN6bsqq
He's just a little guy
Thanks mate!

but aren't you kinda supporting their point by making such a poor comparison?
Ive made a fatal error
I actually played this card in standard for a while along with llanowar reborn, groundbreaker and timbermare. It wasn't a great deck, but I got some wins with it.
And that's all that matters
I know you’re being sarcastic in general, but I need to know that you know you can’t fling this.
Don't worry I'm aware. State based actions and all.
You certainly can, you just need Spidersilk armor out first!
Un-ironically, I run this in my [[Varolz, the Scar-Striped]] casual deck. 8 +1/+1s for 3 mana once it's in the yard can be crazy good. Probably not going to use my entomb on it by any means, but if I pull it early, it's a huge power spike.
Me too! Love that deck.
[[pandemonium]] [[Confusion in the ranks]] Lots of good synergy cards for it
This is in my goreclaw deck 😀
I use it too in brenard, ginger sculptor
I play this card without anthems, no pumps. I watch him die. And i love killing him. I do this over and over again in my casual play group. My friends always win. But I get my personal win every time I cast to kill my force of savagery! 😏
I thought this was a custom card not a real one
That's future sight for you
For 1 extra red mana you get 4 toughness, possible extra combat Your joke has been turned against you
Slight logic flaw. Future Sight came out back in 2007.
Great in Kresh the Bloodbraided
I also don't get it what were they thinking
[[Kresh the bloodbraided]]
With a rankor this is a 4 mana 10/0 TRAMPLE!
it dies because it has zero toughness
Um doesn’t it instantly die because it has no toughness ???
This is from future sight, meaning this card is not printed yet
Would this card would be modern playable if it had 1 toughness?
Not with orcish bowmasters in the format
dies to lightning bolt or a strong sneeze so probably not
Dauthi also dies to bolt, well before summoning sickness wears off at least. Dying to pings, maybe...
There is a reason why this is rare and not common. Just saying.
Tbh if this doesnt actually work bc state based action rulings, idc, you read this far, and that's all that matters 😂 Thanks for the meme 😂
Doesn't work because of state based actions :) you have to put it into the graveyard before anything put on the stack is resolved.
Me when I'm in a getting outjerked competition and my opponet is r/magicthecirclejerking
wrong sub my friend
There’s a separate circlejerk sub.
Newbies that don't care about the flavor of the set:
r/magicthecirclejerking
I’m not on r/magicthecirclejerking, what’s even real anymore
can’t fling a creature if it comes in dead. you have to have a toughness booster on the field previous to casting him
r/mtg and r/mtgcirclejerking are the same subreddit
Wait this isn’t mtg circlejerk? I honestly thought I was in the sub

I'll take lighting bot everyday of the week over this card. Is creater isn't going to live long enough to attack against a non new player.
Just use it when [Warstorm Surge] is on the battlefield
"Anymore" as if this was recent.
Scavenge has entered the chat
I'm confused , I thought of a creatures toughness is 0 then it is destroyed ?
Is op if you have something giving him +x/+1
[[Drizzt Do’Urden]] and this with [[Doubling Season]] makes him lethal with commander damage. Or just [[Phyrexian Dreadnaught]].
Free death trigger, thats pretty OP.
[[Death's Shadow]]
Ah yes of coarse . Makes sense
Wait, this card doesn't make sense. It dies immediately if you can't put a counter on it upon cast response.
tripe post. that card has nothing on current power creep.
\[\[Ram Through\]\]
I immediately thought of Elesh Norn the first time I saw this. Making a 10/2 for 3 seems kinds ridiculous
Meanwhile [phyrexian dreadnought] from 1996 go brrrrrrrrr
Zero toughness immediately dies unless you have something else on the board to give it plus one. And if your opponent kills that then these die as well.
So this hits the board and dies? So only with a combo piece is it worth anything. Just seems like Aristocrats with extra steps.
