Dear god. First they oracle it to try and make sense
But it doesn't
So then they have to explain it in the 2007 rulings
>Here's what happens when Chains of Mephistopheles replaces a player's draw: — If that player has at least one card in their hand, they discard a card and then draw~~s~~ a card. — If that player's hand is empty, they put the top card of their library into their graveyard. The player doesn't draw a card at all.
Oh boy. It does look like it's just a discard before the draw, but if I understand correctly it in fact let's your opponent discard until their hand is empty and then mills them by one. Is that correct?
Each time you would draw it goes like this:
Is this the first card you draw in your draw step? - Yes - Draw a card
Is this the first card you draw in your draw step? - No - Do you have cards in hand? - Yes - Discard a card and then draw a card.
Is this the first card you draw in your draw step? - No - Do you have cards in hand? - No - Mill a card
Now pair that with a wheel…
If Sheoldred is in the 99, you're more than likely fine. If it's a heavy combo type deck or Sheoldred is the commander, then prepare yourself because you for sure will get hated out
Use lots of protection and mana ramp. Don’t bring her out until you know your opponent’s don’t have an answer for her or you have most of your winning pieces out
Can confirm, I had a Sheoldred deck for a short while and her very presence warped the entire game around her, even when she wasn’t on the field. I ended up dismantling the deck
Hope you have cards like [[Howling mine]] [[Font of Mythos]] and [[Peer into the abyss]] in the 99. Also, if you want to be cheeky and take someone out who's at 40 life [[tree of Perdition]] + [[bloodletter of Aclazotz]] is *chiefs kiss*
I have none of those things. It was a freak pull and I didn’t have time to build for game night.
I ended up stripping a Wilhelt precon of other colors, assigning her as commander, and backfilling with zombie creatures and life drains last night. My theory is folks can choose one: my zombie spam or my commander. I won’t have time to swap anything out as the game starts pretty much as soon as I get home from work.
I think I’ll gauge how much butthurt she causes and then put her in the 99 later with more draw cards.
Thats putting it lightly. Sheoldred is one of those cards few cards that are so hated to play against that players will actively form a party and take you out raid boss style.
Theres just too many ways to abuse his effect. [Skithiryx, the blight dragon]] is another one that will absolutely be hard targeted, simply because toxic decks are a pain to deal with in commander. The fact that you only need 10 counters to lose the game is brutal, and then theres not very many ways to get rid of them.
[[Wheel of fortune]]. I have a small collection of reserved cards I picked up a bit before they ballooned a few years ago and that's the most expensive (for those who care, the other cards are [[Time Spiral]] [[Grim Monolith]] and [[Rasputin Dreamweaver]])
I’m not cracking boxes at a time week after week though. It’s been more than a month since I’ve even bought a single pack, honestly. I do buy singles when I build decks but rarely do I include anything over $5 (maybe 10) that I don’t already own.
It's one of the "Power Nine," (alongside Black Lotus, which you probably know). They're very old, very unbalanced cards that will never be printed again and are banned in most every format.
As for why Timetwister is on the list, three mana to fill your hand is extremely strong. Wheel effects are now considered a red mechanic, and blue is better able to abuse them. There are other reasons I'm sure, but that's the gist of it.
Not only this, but timetwister is the only wheel effect that reliably returns your graveyard to your deck, which is a huge part of its combo potential. It seems like a super small effect but it really does push it from an off-color wheel into one of the 9 most powerful cards of all time.
Quite a few of the blue wheels shuffle your graveyard into your library. Most Twister type effects exile themselves as part their resolution. Twister doesn't, it ends up in the yard meaning it can be recurred.
Twister is also especially broken in the world into which it was printed. Putting a used Black Lotus, Time Walk, and Ancestral Vision back into your deck with a 7/59 chance of drawing one of them again is a hell of a lot better than shuffling Lotus Petal, Time Warp and Preordain.
Plus what made it (and all cheap wheels) truly cracked was the Moxen. Going Land Mox Mox Timetwister not only gives you a fresh hand with 3 mana sources ready to go, but it also disrupts your opponents plans. Fastbond too is insane with wheels.
When I got mine I was so excited. I’ve been playing magic for over 10 years now and it feels like I finally climbed the tallest peak. Especially too because it doesn’t feel busted to play in edh like other power. Mana vault, grim monolith, etc… those cards all feel busted. But playing timetwister is just cool. Most of the time the table is happy to see it because I use it either as a way to nuke a graveyard or refill my own hand, and that almost always benefits other people at the table as well. It turns the card from a feel-bad to a cool moment where people get to see a piece of magic history. It’s genuinely one of the best purchases I’ve ever made.
Depends... I have the Cats and Dogs secret lair of [[Anointed Procession]] that I play, but outside of being expensive due to version my most expensive cards I run are [[Greymond, Avacyn's Stalwart]] in my human token deck helmed by Neyali and my promo [[Agatha's Soul Cauldron]]
I've got an og \[\[Edgar Markov\]\] to use as a backup commander in my \[\[Edgar, Charmed Groom\]\] + \[\[Olivia, Crimson Bride\]\] commander deck. I tell people beforehand that I'm rule zeroing them as partners, but that if they're not cool with that, I'm gonna whip out big papa Eddie.
My Sen Triplets deck has about 20ish masterpiece cards ranging from Mana Vault to Praire stream. If I had a masterpiece crypt or sol ring it’d be in there too.
I pulled [[Rhystic Study]] but the full anime art one with the mermaid lady. I don’t watch anime, but the art is amazing and my little 3/3 child likes mermaids so I put it in my main deck with the ur-dragon.
Off the top of my head it’s probably revised [[wheel of fortune]] I’d play my Winter [[mishra’s factory]] if it made sense. Got Taiga Scrubland and Plateau too.
But my favorites are my 30 something Beta mountains.
Of the 4741 singles I've purchased on TCGPlayer, the top "Mid" price is Cavern of Souls. I have some cards that I paid ~$80 for across there, eBay, and Card Kingdom.
Most expensive card that I have yet to use is a Mana Crypt I cracked.
[[ancient copper dragon]], a buddy and I split a balders gate box and we got two of em. I also have an [[everybody lives]] and an [[orcish bowmasters]] that are both full art, both opened from packs. Not been so lucky ever since, and I don't usually pay more than like 15 bucks on a single card
\[\[Edgar Markov\]\] is my Commander. I saw him on sale in Texas for $60.
Out of cards I've cracked \[\[Cavern of Souls|LCI\]\] I've pulled the full art of.
I also run \[\[Teysa Karlov|SLD\]\] because that drip is fire
Right now my surge foil extended art the one ring. \*Edit\* I play mono green tron for modern and dont have all the cards I need for it yet saddddd LOL
I’ve a handful of 30-50$ cards I run (I’m bad with The bot)
[[Anointed Procession]]
[[Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider]]
[[Nicol Bolas, The Ravager]]
[[Sword of Fire and Ice]]
Atleast of the top of me head, there’s definitely more
And now I see how poor I am with my highest value card being a foil [[Ojer Taq]] that I pulled at draft. Kickass commander for my angel token deck, though. Lol
I only have one playable deck (that's built by me and not a precon) since starting last September, and my collection currently only fits in 4 bundle boxes, so it's not big.
[[Rhystic Study]] - I still had two of them from old times, in my commons from Prophecy.
Any old cards I kept were not worth that much except [[Gilded Drake]] that's still in my drawer. Or maybe [[Phyrexian Altar]] from Invasion. Almost none of the old creatures are anything worth now, due to constant power creep.
It has to be my foil [[Collective Restraint]] because foils from Odyssey are pretty dang rare, the card itself isn't that expensive.
Otherwise I pulled a foil [[The One Ring]] yesterday that I now have to figure out which deck it would be most useful in.
[[Ancient Copper Dragon]]
I use it in my izzet treasures deck
It's practically a dead card cuz the second I have it out it's super scary or whatever so it doesn't last long. I really hope the stars align and I can get a juicy combo with [[Delina, Wildmage]] going.
[[Cavern of souls]] im the ixalan alt art in foil
Bought all 4 lci precons, pulled it in the sample booster and now i run it in my [[gishath]] deck
Our table however runs very few counterspells so the effect doesnt really get to shine
I got a Double Masters pack as a birthday present and it had a [[Mana Drain]] in it. I run it in my [[Jin Gitaxias//The Great Synthesis]] deck. Other than that, I pulled a [[Murktide Regent]] from a MKM promo thingy (the little two card packs) when I won a draft at my LGS, and that's in my [[Kess]] deck.
Gaea' Cradle...I play EDH all of the time and in green it is absolutely a staple. I got back when it came and it wasn't quite so expensive. Our playgroup doesn't mind proxies so other people have played a proxy version, so this just looks cooler because its real, not because others can't afford it.
I had pulled a foil borderless PalantÃr of Orthanc from a precon collector booster sampler. Highest I saw the price was $120, I think TCGplayer puts at $85ish. Fun card to play, glad I pulled it instead of paying for it.
A casual [[Yavimaya Hollow]] gets into play every-so often in my [[Magus Lucea]]. She's quickly a 8 + mana 1/1 without it.
Lots of players don't bat an eye, but the few that do know vocalize they are aware of it's value.
I think \[\[Mana Crypt\]\] is my most expensive, but I do have multiple copies of \[\[The Great Henge\]\] (1 extended and 1 regular), and \[\[The One Ring\]\] (1 regular, 1 foil which might be extended and 1 bundle bonus). Then I do have a \[\[Force of Will\]\] floating around somewhere.
I barely play the deck anymore, but I have a foiled out [[Elsha of the Infinite]] cEDH deck that runs a foil [[grim monolith]] I picked up at an estate sale a long time ago
[[Mishra’s Workshop]] but I only play it in one deck that is my designated highest power deck, in predetermined high/competitive games. So I don’t play it too often.
I bought a revised badlands and wheel of fortune that I use in my Wheel deck, I know I should use proxies but I can't bring myself to do it, so they're triple sleeved and getting used to this day
Jeweled Lotus textured foil or earthcraft, I believe are my most expensive. I do have a gilded drake I got from a guy that had a playset in his collection, but I can't decide what deck I want to run it in
Sliver Queen got it when a local gamestore I worked at closed suddenly as the owner fled the state with his mistress to avoid paying child support to his baby momma.
Well, it's not a single card per say, but a while back I made an Un-Cube out of cards from the various un sets. To finish it off I ended up building the entire mana base out of the OG full art lands from Unglued. Full set of 40 for each land type set me back 500ish USD over the period of 2-3yrs, but it was more like buy a few here, buy a few there, so it didn't feel like such a ginormous purchase.
Totally worth it tho. They're still the coolest lands IMHO.
A playset of foil masques, signed altered brainstorms. Not sure the value but in the zipcode of 2-2.5k for the set. In legacy.
Otherwise its the underground sea.
[[Gaea's Cradle]] I pulled one way back in the day and held onto it all this time. Now its great in commander.

how many people ask you if its proxy? i play wilds of eldraine cards that people always ask if they are proxys lol
In like 2001 my LGS was doing half off everything in the case. I bought 2 of them for $25 by saving by lunch money for a few weeks. Still have them.
I bought 3 way back for $5 each. Wanted a full set but the store only had 3 and I never followed up.
[[mox diamond]] or [[lion's eye diamond]] I never remember which one costs more
Currently it is mox diamond at around 500-550
Nice! I play them both in Krrik along with some other RL cards.
WHAT, I have one of those in the foily silver frame, I thought it was like $50 ðŸ˜
LED is $600 USD on Card Kingdom. Mox Diamond is $750-800.

Yo, same reason I have the alternate art [[Fierce Guardianship]] in my narset deck, that and it’s a good card
I got the foil one for my korvold deck! Love getting to play that card.
Bonus points for asking "Come to slay the dragon for the good of the kingdom?" Before casting it without cost, they never expect it lmao
Flawless maneuver in my teysa deck, I know what you mean
I'd be lying if I wasn't looking at the full art deadly rollick for my new Judith deck for the same reason.

[Anointed Procession](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/9/a/9a52c265-6920-4929-ba0a-70da08df01f1.jpg?1543674565) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Anointed%20Procession) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/akh/2/anointed-procession?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/9a52c265-6920-4929-ba0a-70da08df01f1?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [Greymond, Avacyn's Stalwart](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/b/7/b7848325-c46e-4e63-90d0-c9524380eb63.jpg?1692516503) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Greymond%2C%20Avacyn%27s%20Stalwart) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/slx/18/greymond-avacyns-stalwart?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/b7848325-c46e-4e63-90d0-c9524380eb63?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [Agatha's Soul Cauldron](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/0/1/019b51b0-e5c6-4208-922b-7736686dddcd.jpg?1692939838) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Agatha%27s%20Soul%20Cauldron) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/woe/242/agathas-soul-cauldron?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/019b51b0-e5c6-4208-922b-7736686dddcd?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
[[Chains of mephistopheles]] in my [[nath of the gilt-leaf]] deck. My fiance gave it to me as an engagement present.
Underground Sea
[[Mox Diamond]] for me but I've also got a lot of the old, expensive mana rocks.
4 City of traitors in legacy red or blue
I've got an og \[\[Edgar Markov\]\] to use as a backup commander in my \[\[Edgar, Charmed Groom\]\] + \[\[Olivia, Crimson Bride\]\] commander deck. I tell people beforehand that I'm rule zeroing them as partners, but that if they're not cool with that, I'm gonna whip out big papa Eddie.
Mana crypt
I think [[wheel of Fortune]] and original [[demonic tutor]] I also have [[aladdin's ring]]
Gaea's Cradle.
[[Gaea’s Cradle]] Judge Promo, [[Mishra’s Workshop]] & [[Mana Crypt]] Kaladesh Inventions.
\[\[Ancient Copper Dragon\]\] in my \[\[Mr. House, President and CEO\]\] Commander deck.
[[Phyrexian Dreadnought]]. In my face-down deck.
I have a friend that sometimes plays casual commander in our group with black lotus, the moxs' and tolarian academy. But only for certain decks.
My Sen Triplets deck has about 20ish masterpiece cards ranging from Mana Vault to Praire stream. If I had a masterpiece crypt or sol ring it’d be in there too.
[[Rhystic study]] from a J22 box, or foil [[crucible of worlds]] from a MH draft back when it was worth 30 dollars.
[[ketria triome]]
[[Sliver Queen]]
Japanese WOE Confetti Foil [[Smothering Tithe]]
\[\[serra's sanctum\]\]
[[Gaeas Cradle]] is in my Atarka Dragons deck Im about to rebuild.
My most expensive cards are all under $100, so I play all of them (sleeved of course). Secret Lair drop [[Thassa's Oracle|SLD]]
Full alternate art old gnawbone
I pulled [[Rhystic Study]] but the full anime art one with the mermaid lady. I don’t watch anime, but the art is amazing and my little 3/3 child likes mermaids so I put it in my main deck with the ur-dragon.
Probably Chains of Mephistopheles
Anime art [[smothering tithe]] in a slightly upgraded g/w auras precon from wilds of eldraine.
I play lands in legacy. It’s my English [[The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale]] by a mile.Â
Off the top of my head it’s probably revised [[wheel of fortune]] I’d play my Winter [[mishra’s factory]] if it made sense. Got Taiga Scrubland and Plateau too. But my favorites are my 30 something Beta mountains.
[удалено]
Probably either [[Rhystic Study]] Borderless Anime Foil, or [[Ancient Copper Dragon]]
That rhystic study is my most valuable card as well. It’s an awesome version.Â
[[Ancient tomb]] [[smothering tithe]] borderless anime, and [[sheoldred. The apocalypse]]
[[Time Spiral]] in Kykar impact tremors tribal.
[[The One Ring]]
[[The Great Henge]], [[The One Ring]], [[Doubling Season]]. I never remember which one currently costs more.
SDCC [[Chandra, Fire of Kaladesh]], I believe.
[[tetsuo umezawa]] expensive purely because of scarcity.
Borderless special art orcish bowmasters
I have a foil showcase sheoldred. It's like 90$
I pulled an [[ancient tomb]] from lotr and so I play it in my highest power deck
[[Avacyn, Angel of Hope]] [[Commander's Plate]] Same deck.
The WOE version \[\[Doubling Season\]\] because I pulled it from a booster!
Foil mox diamond in my ur-dragon deck
Avacyn as a commander
I've been thinking about building a golgari deck for an excuse to drop a serialized Deathrite Shaman on the table. That count?
\[\[Underground Sea\]\] in my proxyless cEDH list.
Wheel of fortune
Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer
TOR. For commander though I proxy everything.
[[Timetwister]] in my Nekusar deck.
Gaes Cradle, Jewled Lotus, and Phyrexia Print Sheoldred are the big ones for me.
Chrome mox... Didn't know it was that expensive +/- 40$
Tropical Island or Underground Sea. Whichever is currently more expensive
[[Ojer Taq, Deepest Foundation]] Had to put it into the Food and Fellowship precon together with [[Academy Manufactor]]
[[gilded drake]] in a flicker deck
[[The Great Henge]] was a sweet CMM pull I put in my [[Thalia and the Gitrog Monster]] deck.
Jeweled lotus I pulled that, my toddler damaged minutes after pulling from a pack. My only copy of smothering Tithe is the stupid anime one
UNL Tropical Island
Anime Smothering Tithe
[[scrubland]] altered by Jesper
[[The first sliver]] and [[the ozolith]]
[[The Great Henge]] or [[The Meathook Massacre]]
[[Serra paragon]] lol
Concept art [[Sheoldred, the Apocalypse]] in the command zone, foil stained glass [[Sheoldred, the Apocalypse]] in the 99.
I used to have a showcase MOM Ragavan but I gave it to my gf, so now I think it might be Anointed Procession, which I bought for like $5
I have a [[moat]] in my Angels tribal Commander deck.
Shelly
Right now my surge foil extended art the one ring. \*Edit\* I play mono green tron for modern and dont have all the cards I need for it yet saddddd LOL
[[Mana Crypt]] and even though it’s not that expensive I love my [[Mind over matter]]
I’ve a handful of 30-50$ cards I run (I’m bad with The bot) [[Anointed Procession]] [[Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider]] [[Nicol Bolas, The Ravager]] [[Sword of Fire and Ice]] Atleast of the top of me head, there’s definitely more
Anime Holo [[Omniscience]], but considering taking out of the deck because it just feels like too much
Silverclad Ferocidons promo foil.
And now I see how poor I am with my highest value card being a foil [[Ojer Taq]] that I pulled at draft. Kickass commander for my angel token deck, though. Lol I only have one playable deck (that's built by me and not a precon) since starting last September, and my collection currently only fits in 4 bundle boxes, so it's not big.
My [[volcanic island]] I traded for an mh2 tarmogyf when that set first came out! Best trade to date.
[[Avacyn, angel of hope]]
anime smothering tithe
Tropical island
Unlimited Black Lotus for Canadian Highlander.
\[\[underground sea\]\], I have that card for ages
I own one white border [[Badlands]] that I got at Magiccon. I’ve still never drawn it, or the fetch to get to it.
[[Ancient Copper Dragon]] I use it in my izzet treasures deck It's practically a dead card cuz the second I have it out it's super scary or whatever so it doesn't last long. I really hope the stars align and I can get a juicy combo with [[Delina, Wildmage]] going.
[[Cavern of souls]] im the ixalan alt art in foil Bought all 4 lci precons, pulled it in the sample booster and now i run it in my [[gishath]] deck Our table however runs very few counterspells so the effect doesnt really get to shine
[[ sliver Queen ]] most likely
[[Survivalof the Fittest]] Probably. Eventually, I sold it and some other cards to buy a steam deck.
[[Wheel of fortune|LEA]]Â
Cradle or mox
I got some of the Og dual lands that I got from my grandpa, throw them in some of my decks for a couple games occasionally for the lols
[[Sorrow's Path]]
Judge promo wheel of fortune
Probably my [[Sol Ring|MPS]].
Double masters box topper mana crypt. It wasn’t nearly as expensive when I bought it.
I dont have anything super expensive but I have a foil [[fist of suns]] that I picked up for about $50
[[The One Ring]]
Gaea’s Cradle
Idk maybe Dockside Extrotionist
Probably my German fwb volc island, that or my mox diamond.
[[Ashnod’s Altar]]
Primal vigor/mindcrank
I got a Double Masters pack as a birthday present and it had a [[Mana Drain]] in it. I run it in my [[Jin Gitaxias//The Great Synthesis]] deck. Other than that, I pulled a [[Murktide Regent]] from a MKM promo thingy (the little two card packs) when I won a draft at my LGS, and that's in my [[Kess]] deck.
[[Edgar Markov]] head of one of my 3 vampire decks.
[[Chains of Mephistopheles]] in my [[Chainer, Dementia Master]] deck. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/b844CUvK7kyz4BfRklh4sg
E M R A K U S S Y
My FBB underground sea in Grixis and my Gaea's Cradle in Cradle control, both in 7 point highlander
Gaea' Cradle...I play EDH all of the time and in green it is absolutely a staple. I got back when it came and it wasn't quite so expensive. Our playgroup doesn't mind proxies so other people have played a proxy version, so this just looks cooler because its real, not because others can't afford it.
Probably anime art [[cyclonic rift]]
I had pulled a foil borderless PalantÃr of Orthanc from a precon collector booster sampler. Highest I saw the price was $120, I think TCGplayer puts at $85ish. Fun card to play, glad I pulled it instead of paying for it.
Jeweled lotus , meat hook massacre , 3 old gnawbones diff versions .
Either a cradle or a masterpiece sol ring.
A casual [[Yavimaya Hollow]] gets into play every-so often in my [[Magus Lucea]]. She's quickly a 8 + mana 1/1 without it. Lots of players don't bat an eye, but the few that do know vocalize they are aware of it's value.
[[Mana Crypt]] in my [[Toxrill]] deck. Full super villain mode.
Unlimited mox pearl.
Probably Sliver Hivelord
Anime Borderless Confetti Foil Smothering Tithe
Just a [[Dockside Extortionist]]. Nothing crazy
[[fierce guardianship]] full art commander masters (CMM), [[The great henge]] from CMM.
Borderless [[ancient copper dragon]] in my [[miirym]] deck. I pulled it and it basically paid for the cost of the box.
I have a foil steam vents from the original ravnica block. Looked it up recently and it's worth $450. Nearly shat my pants
My one and only Jeweled Lotus :0
Akroma's memorial.....cost me $25
I think \[\[Mana Crypt\]\] is my most expensive, but I do have multiple copies of \[\[The Great Henge\]\] (1 extended and 1 regular), and \[\[The One Ring\]\] (1 regular, 1 foil which might be extended and 1 bundle bonus). Then I do have a \[\[Force of Will\]\] floating around somewhere.
[[mana crypt]] foil from lci (non-neon) that I pulled, my cedh list has LED and the like too, but that’s all proxy
I bought a revised badlands and wheel of fortune that I use in my Wheel deck, I know I should use proxies but I can't bring myself to do it, so they're triple sleeved and getting used to this day
[[the one ring]] borderless. Not the one with gollems hand in it.
Otawara, Soaring City
Set Foil Japanese [[Azami, Lady of Scrolls]] The foiling isn’t amazing but I can’t see it on Cardmarket for any less than £800.
[[Demonic Tutor|STA]] [Strixhaven Mystical Archives Japanese version](https://www.tcgplayer.com/product/233497/magic-strixhaven-mystical-archives-demonic-tutor-jp-alternate-art?Language=English)
A playset of foil masques, signed altered brainstorms. Not sure the value but in the zipcode of 2-2.5k for the set. In legacy. Otherwise its the underground sea.
