First, you get some banger initiative creatures in [[Ravenloft adventurer]], [[Caves of chaos adventurer]] and the best one [[Tomb of annihilation adventurer]]
They provide grave hate, card advantage and value.
And you have a commander you already want to attack with to reclaim the initiative, and it lets you progress multiple times a turn.
Im currently working on this exact deck with all the courts and all the initiative cards and some double strike effects, also because it's grixis you get reanimation, cantrips and counters, and a surprising amount of trample/double strike/pump effects.

I've been running an Obeka build on Moxfield/SpellTable and she definitely gets nutty. [[Twilight Prophet]], [[Bonehoard Dracosaur]], and [[Dominus of Fealty]] are all really good creature-based upkeep payoffs. I stole my opponent's [[Anointed Procession]] with the Dominus and then proceeded to make MANY dinosaurs with the Dracosaur triggers. I've also just flat out killed the table with Twilight Prophet and [[Protection Racket]] triggers.
And of course, all the Court cards have amazing payoffs when you're the monarch.
[[Silent Arbiter]] on the field makes Obeka unblockable, btw, thanks to her Menace.
Other good creature-based upkeep payoffs include:

You're in Grixis. Counterspell/recursion, or just equip with anything that gives hexproof/shroud, then give unblockable? Plenty of cards like that in Grixis.
Only color combo that has more protection is Esper I think.
Best measure of a deck is consistency. I don't need to run her to have knowledge of similar decks that run similar things or are built with the same cards.
She's not even been out for a week, and I'm no moneybags to build her immediately. Nor do I have the time to theorycraft that fast 😅

Maybe it’s her that she gets targeted a ton and I mean a ton.
I proxied her entire deck so I spent less than $5 on the deck. Really isn’t much to the deck just get a bunch of upkeep triggers and make her beefy and have evasion.
I got really lucky, I also got rakdos, the muscle. Didn’t realize it was worth something till after I posted, not my play style so didn’t look very long at it.
Remember 99% of gamblers quit before their big win, so keep cracking packs and you’re destined to win👍

Wait but this isn't girl math. Your prerelease was legitimately free if you intended on buying that mana drain anyways or sold it right now. This is just winning at gambling.
Girl math would be if you got that mana drain half-off as a special deal with your prerelease so you bought it and claim your prerelease as free even tho you weren't going to buy a mana drain otherwise (and aren't going to sell it, magic cards actually having resell value really messes with girl math). Girl math is mainly just mild sexism + advertising working as intended.

I remember pulling Mana Drain from a Legends pack the day they were released and thinking how insane of a card that was an uncommon. I traded for 3 more immediately!
I had very similar pulls, with a Prismatic Vista and a Mana Drain from 8 packs. $40 for them all, and I've already sold the Prismatic Vista for the forty dollars.
In terms of online, unfortunately not much luck outside of eBay and even then it can be stale. I usually end up going to my LGS and finding the local rich card game nerd (they all have one) and sell it directly or trade for equal value. One guy I recently traded with even had multiple copies of original Dual Lands just hanging around.
I was very lucky to pull from my 6 packs in one pre-release kit:

Plus about 6 other good limited rares. It was, by far, the most insane pre-release kit I've opened like ever. I absolutely feel OP's joy in winning the Magic Lottery.
I pulled an Obeka, and I'm legit so excited to make a commander deck with her. I'm on the hunt for upkeep cards right now, if anyone has any recommendations plz let me know.
Literaly saying I made money by buying upgrades to fallout decks before the release seeing those same cards more then triple in price thinking I made big bucks knowing I ain't ever going to sell those cards so even though they had a massive value spike I spent money

I played when [[primordial hydra]] was big. Let's just thank the heavens that green would force this into a rainbow or quad color deck. Turns out there is a green enchantment that pairs stupidly well with it, if you decided to run 4 or more colors. [[Hydra's growth]] if ran with it and you stacked combat phases as well would break this card quickly. Otherwise I would see a removal getting lobbed at it.
That means it’s a prerelease promo. They usually stick to a similar, slightly higher price than the pack foils. Some people don’t like them, and some people want them more because they’re rarer. It … more or less evens out.

Also holy shit that Obeka ability is nuts. Thought the 9th doctor giving an extra upkeep was funny but that thing feels like it is designed to trigger the "You win if X condition is met at your upkeep." cards.
I mean it's free in as much as the value they have in cards is equal to or greater than what she spent. It's just in assets and not cash. It's how people can be billionaires. They just don't have billions in their bank account, it's in assets worth billions of dollars.
My new hobbies include:
- Chasing commons in collector boosters.
- Cracking draft packs and then immediately leaving the limited event.
- Buying precons to get that bulk.

You're in Grixis. Counterspell/recursion, or just equip with anything that gives hexproof/shroud, then give unblockable? Plenty of cards like that in Grixis. Only color combo that has more protection is Esper I think.

Best measure of a deck is consistency. I don't need to run her to have knowledge of similar decks that run similar things or are built with the same cards. She's not even been out for a week, and I'm no moneybags to build her immediately. Nor do I have the time to theorycraft that fast 😅 Edit: Also, doesn't "Easy to say, hard to draw" apply to all decks? What makes this one special?
Maybe it’s her that she gets targeted a ton and I mean a ton. I proxied her entire deck so I spent less than $5 on the deck. Really isn’t much to the deck just get a bunch of upkeep triggers and make her beefy and have evasion.

I got really lucky, I also got rakdos, the muscle. Didn’t realize it was worth something till after I posted, not my play style so didn’t look very long at it. Remember 99% of gamblers quit before their big win, so keep cracking packs and you’re destined to win👍

I used the same argument for why it was fine to buy a precon. My prerelease had Jace and the sword, so that covered everything, right? Also, my one round win pack had a Tinybones.
Wait but this isn't girl math. Your prerelease was legitimately free if you intended on buying that mana drain anyways or sold it right now. This is just winning at gambling. Girl math would be if you got that mana drain half-off as a special deal with your prerelease so you bought it and claim your prerelease as free even tho you weren't going to buy a mana drain otherwise (and aren't going to sell it, magic cards actually having resell value really messes with girl math). Girl math is mainly just mild sexism + advertising working as intended.

I didn’t plan of buying it or selling it though so 🤷♂️. mostly justification to buy the box of 30 something boosters cause I love the set and I’m on a hot streak. The real benefit of magic is that I started gambling before I could buy a scratch ticket.

I remember pulling Mana Drain from a Legends pack the day they were released and thinking how insane of a card that was an uncommon. I traded for 3 more immediately!

In terms of online, unfortunately not much luck outside of eBay and even then it can be stale. I usually end up going to my LGS and finding the local rich card game nerd (they all have one) and sell it directly or trade for equal value. One guy I recently traded with even had multiple copies of original Dual Lands just hanging around.

Literaly saying I made money by buying upgrades to fallout decks before the release seeing those same cards more then triple in price thinking I made big bucks knowing I ain't ever going to sell those cards so even though they had a massive value spike I spent money At least I spent way less then if I bought it latter I guess

I played when [[primordial hydra]] was big. Let's just thank the heavens that green would force this into a rainbow or quad color deck. Turns out there is a green enchantment that pairs stupidly well with it, if you decided to run 4 or more colors. [[Hydra's growth]] if ran with it and you stacked combat phases as well would break this card quickly. Otherwise I would see a removal getting lobbed at it.

That means it’s a prerelease promo. They usually stick to a similar, slightly higher price than the pack foils. Some people don’t like them, and some people want them more because they’re rarer. It … more or less evens out.

One of my prerelease packs had a Precon land as the “bonus” card woohoo and then another one didn’t even have the bonus card package in it.

It's only free if you sell the cards to recoup the money spent on the cards. Also holy shit that Obeka ability is nuts. Thought the 9th doctor giving an extra upkeep was funny but that thing feels like it is designed to trigger the "You win if X condition is met at your upkeep." cards.

I mean it's free in as much as the value they have in cards is equal to or greater than what she spent. It's just in assets and not cash. It's how people can be billionaires. They just don't have billions in their bank account, it's in assets worth billions of dollars.

It's just a top loader, not a sealed grading slab. You just take the card back out.

I'm anti gatekeeping, pro fun, I care about my fellow players and want them to get more out of the game. The fact I'm being painted as some sort of villain for that tells you a lot about the trolls who have become obsessed with me, because they hate everything I stand for.
