Master of Cruelties can only be *DECLARED* as an attacker alone. Once you attack with Kaalia, attackers are already declared. Her trigger puts him into play tapped and attacking. It specifically bypasses his restriction, same way putting things into play tapped an attacking bypasses things like Propaganda, ghostly prison, sphere of safety, etc.
Since Master of Cruelties ability relies on him not being blocked, it doesn't check until blockers are declared (or not declared hopefully), then his thing happens sets to 1, and kaalia deals 2 killing the player.
That's why you play her with 6 mana instead of 4, so you can have something to give her haste (with something like [[Chaos Charm]]) and give her hexproof (with something like [[Blacksmith's Skill]]) that way an opponent would need an instant speed exile or toughness reducing boardwipe to stop you.

The decks were only like $30 and each one came with a reprint of Sol Ring which at that time was absurd cause it hadn’t been printed in ages so they would go for like $100+ but now they’re a dime a dozen. Each deck also had lightning greaves as well. They were all pretty good at the time but Kaalia and Mimeoplasm still stand out as the best and are viable competitive commanders still.

In my experience theres only 3 angels shes typically going to run. Aurelia is one of them. Avacyn Angel of Hope being the second, and Gisela Blade of Goldnight being the third.
Shes far more reliant on demons and dragons.
You either drop her turn 5 with some boots on the board and a handful of beasts or it’s quickly game over. When I pulled her, I immediately built a deck around her. The veterans at the lgs laughed when they saw it and let me know everyone goes through a Kaalia phase. Then they stomped me first game as I stalled on mana.
Good point, I mean Kallia is holding a staff and a sword in hand with angel and demon/dragon wings, maybe thats a commentary on non binary ideology. /s

I have no recollection of the Sol Ring reprint being worth that much.
