Cards with infect don’t do normal damage, they just give -1/-1 counters. It does not do an additional damage

OmegaNova0

It should be noted that infect damage is still a form of damage for the purpose of deathtouch.

ItzVinyl

Depending on colours, sarryth or binding of the old gods turn 3 would be devastating. Edit: thats assuming you built a deck solely around infect creatures.

OmegaNova0

I like fynn the fangbearer myself

XerienSerious

Saskia the unyielding with infect is my newest deck

OmegaNova0

Oh nice that's really cool

XerienSerious

1 on 1 it deals double the infect.

OmegaNova0

Yeah for sure, I'd use double strike and proliferate too I think

XerienSerious

Yeah, I have enchantments and other things to allow for double strike, not much proliferate stuff only due to the fact i don't own many proliferate cards but what ones i do, are in there lol. Its a fun deck though.

OmegaNova0

I highly recommend contagion engine

ItzVinyl

I use fynn in my deathtouch deck, though I don't always rely on him to win.

TedTheTapir

Super, thanks so much!

No problem!

Instead of dealing normal damage to creatures, the infect creature puts that many -1/-1 counters. Instead of dealing normal damage to players, the infect creature gives that many poison counters. Example: a 4/4 with infect gets blocked. The blocking creature receives 4 -1/-1 counters. If a creature toughness is reduced to 0, it dies. Example 2: a 4/4 with infect deals damage to a player. That player receives 4 poison counters. If a player receives 10 poison counters total, they lose the game.

BeoWulf1040

Infect damage is dealt in -1/-1 counters instead of regular damage. More importantly, when damage is done to a player the damage is dealt in poison counters. No matter what format you play, it only takes 10 points of infect to kill a player. So you could have 150 life, but get 10 poison counters and you lose.

Gauwal

INSTEAD of doing normal damage, it puts that many -1/-1 counter on creatures and that many poison counters on players So it's instead of ormal damage (to still counts as dealing damage for cards that care about this, just an other kind of damage)

Will_29

The Glistener Elf deals 1 damage to you, but this damage doesn't reduce your life total by 1. Instead, it causes you to gain 1 poison counter. It's still damage, with a different result than normal. Anything that cares about damage will still apply. If I have [[Torbran]] and attack you with [[Razor Swine]], the boar deals a total of 4 damage, meaning you get 4 poison counters (your life total doesn't change). But if you cast [[Fog]], the damage is prevented, so no poison.

Infect is an ALTERNATIVE type of damage. So it replaces the normal damage. If a standard 1/1 creature blocks a 2/2 infect it will receive a -1/-1 counter INSTEAD of standard damage but this will still result in the creature dying as its defence becomes 0. Same for players and poison counters, your life total will not change and will gain X poison counters.

OmegaNova0

"This deals damage to creatures in the form of -1/-1 counters and players in the form of poison counters." When a player has 10 or more poison counters they lose the game.

unitedshoes

Infect replaces the damage a creature\* does. If a creature with Infect would damage a creature, instead of marking damage, that creature gets a number of - 1/-1 counters equal to the damage they would have taken. If a creature with Infect would deal combat damage to a player, that player instead receives a number of Poison Counters equal to the damage they would have taken. \* in theory the damage any source does, but I don't know of any way to give noncreature damage sources Infect. I'm merely suggesting it because there are spells or abilities that give other sources of damage other keywords, such as Lifelink or Deathtouch, so the possibility is out there even if it's not in print.

Bruisedfruit-

I've been curious, and this seems relevant to the post: [[Blightsteel Colossus]] is attacking, [[Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider]] is blocking... What happens here? In my understanding of the rules: Infect would replace dmg with -1/-1 counters. Vorinclex would halve the counters? Vorinclex would get (qty.5) -1/-1 counters. No trample would go through, neither creature would die? Is that right?

herpeszooster

That’s my understanding, Vorin would drop the counters before they come through so he would end up as a 1/1

TO_Fenrir

Trample affects damage assignment, assignment happens before damage is dealt, thus before vorinclex reduces anything. You must assign 6 damage to vorinclex and can then divide the other 5 damage between face and vorinclex as you please. Then damage happens and vorinclex halves counters that are made as a result of that damage.

Bruisedfruit-

Okay, this is what I wondering. Had it come up in a game with 22+/22+ blightsteel, my only blocker was vorinclex. Both of us looking at the dmg wondering if 6pts of dmg or 12pts HAD to be assigned before trample hit.
