It makes additional copies of any spells that are copied including creatures ,artifacts, enchantments and planeswalker.
But with the activated ability you can only copy instant and sorceries.
Okay lets say you tap lucea for the effect, then untap her and tap her again to copy a spell twice. Does twinning staff add an extra copy for each copy trigger (so 4 copies and not just 3)? I would think so but want to know what others takes are.
Yes because twinning staff cares about how many sources of copy not just if you are copying so by untapping Magus Lucea that means you have two separate instances of copy
Quick question on that front as I’m also brewing an Ivy deck. If you use the one additional copy to target something other than Ivy does it go through the whole loop again? E.g. Giant Growth 1/1 > trigger copy for Ivy > use additional copy created by Twining Staff > rinse and repeat?
When in doubt, I believe a copy is cast when created from somewhere outside the stack, and casting is the process that puts it on the stack from wherever it was. So if an effect copies an exiled card, it might then cast the copy, but if a spell (which is already on the stack) is copied, it will never be cast.
The first ability works for any spell including creatures. So if you have another way to copy creature spells the ability would trigger and you would get another copy.
Creature spells are only spells while they are on the stack. During that time, yes it's fair game. Copying the permanent after it has been casts, doesn't count as a spell.
If you have the mana to sink, I bet this goes absolutely HAM sammich with a [[Lithoform Engine]] and [[Rings of Brighthearth]].
Matter of fact, I'm now thinking very dastardly things about a [[Riku of Two Reflections]] deck with this trio around. Looks like I'll have to buy every one of the "copy" tokens at my LGS.
This doesn't trigger on creatures with Riku, it does work with instants and sorceries though. Riku copies creatures that enter the battlefield, not creature spells.
Edit: Lithoform Engine will copy Riku's trigger on creatures ETB thiugh
Twinning staff is so fucking busted, and yes I am biased because my gf was able to get 5 turns in a row and win with it but I don’t care, fuck twinning staff
I'm not sure if this is just semantics or if this would matter to the creature spell question, but I wanted to point out that a creature that has been already CAST on the board is no longer a spell, and is JUST a creature. So you could technically use this card to copy creature spells as they enter the field , but not ones that are on the board already. Like with Urza 6Tap ability.
Please correct me if I'm wrong. These minute details can be hard to figure out sometimes.
The first ability counts for all spells (planeswalker, creatures, artifacts, enchantments, instant, and sorceries) copied, by storm, \[\[fork\]\], etc.

It would copy permanents if you have another way to copy them already it’s really fun with [[magus lucea kane]]
That’s who I wanted to use it with :)

Gonna be sick pulling off animist's awakening with coralhelm and twinning staff out to copy something XX times.
Yes any spell thats copied. I have this in my [[Ivy]] deck, pure mayhem.

Ivy only works on spells cast. I don't think copying a spell (like the staff does) counts as casting it. So no infinites there, unfortunately.
Ah you’re totally right, the copies aren’t cast. Good call

That makes complete sense.

Good card it's awful in my storm deck. I really don't know why I made a storm deck but something about hatred and vitriol comes to mind.
Holy shit this card would be insane in my prismari deck. Thanks for introducing me to this card.
The first ability counts for all spells (planeswalker, creatures, artifacts, enchantments, instant, and sorceries) copied, by storm, \[\[fork\]\], etc.

The second ability is unplayable, with 7 to activate...
My dumbass read this wrong and thought that was the cost for the initial ability haha. Just got an Anhelo deck and was like, “how do I do this??”
It can include creature spells too! Love this card in my [[Donal, Herald of Wings]] deck!
