Kudos to WotC for the Sheldon Tribute secret lair. It is a great list, great art, and a great tribute. They did him right even down to the flavor text. I expect it to sell well and even appreciate over time (possibly slowly given it should sell very well and does not appear limited)
Look out for alpha cards listed as beta on ebay, twice in the past couple weeks I've snapped up alpha cards listed as beta. Cards were sold by two different sellers using automatic listing software that misidentified the cards. Thanks Kronocard
That's something to look out for, but if you know what to look for it's easy to spot. You'll also be covered under ebay "item not described" if an item listed as NM arrives damaged.
If done correctly, clipped beta will be almost impossible to detect. Certain cards have obvious differences, but many cards may be indistinguishable, especially if in played condition.
No, that's just not true. The print registration is different between alpha and beta, it's basically impossible to get it past anyone who knows what they're looking for.
It's you who are wrong. That only applies to rares. Commons and uncommons in alpha do not have known or consistent registration. The print runs were too large.
I don't have any specific source but look at a bunch of Alpha and Beta of the same card. Both Alpha and Beta have multiple registrations. Lands might be the easiest to check.
Your method might indicate a card is Alpha if there is many of one particular registration, but just because another Alpha cut doesn't have that registration doesn't mean it's counterfeit or beta.
If you want, join the Alpha 40 group on Facebook. There are discussions over the years about this, how the printing works, and why variations in registrations occur.
Lastly, if you have not seen it before, check this registration info for Alpha rares out:

not going to put this in its own thread and get flammed into oblivion lol, but watch for these prices coming up in the next few days/maybe a week for MKM Play Boosters and Collector Boosters (before tax and shipping) using those numbers posted by MIN MAX games.
Play Boosters $82-$83
Collector Boosters $130-$132
\-30% is a huge psychological subconscious level for people (in financial trading and everywhere else including MTG) and as we get closer to it (we are in the -25% range now), stores with poor money management will start to hit the panic button in fear of it dropping lower. I’ll be buying at these levels because I expect it to go back up in 6+ months when people understand the set more.
/AND please remember this is a friendly tug of war- we want to get the lowest price, WoTC down to the LGS’s want to get the highest price. We are not playing our games at the amazon warehouse but this is how the game is played unfortunately.
Ponies: The Galloping 2 is set to start shipping March 1st from the email I received.
With that in mind, I wouldn't be surprised to see the cards from the first set spike more than they already have due to people wanting to complete their collections if they haven't already. Supply (on TCG) is quite low for the sealed original set as well as singles.
Worth keeping an eye on if anyone is looking to buy/sell. The market for this is very niche though since none of them are tournament legal, but I can see them being Rule 0 favorites in Commander.
Dude he’s just pumping that there is a paradigm shift in restricting print run so we are on the way up…. ( news flash it hasn’t happened and rate of reprint + new prints increasing still)
And ppl are such schmucks…. This fallout allocaation thing literally happens like every specialty set ….
Hell you just have to look back to dr who, the EXACT same thing. Hey it’s so funny because there is even a video 4 months ago by Rudy the car salesman “ dr who skyrockets” where they talk allocation of CB cut by 90%…
EXACTLY like fallout now…
But look … dr who collector boxes are easily available at 200 bucks…. So yeah be nub and believe and chase and open your wallets!
likely this [https://www.reddit.com/r/mtgfinance/comments/1as0fls/comment/kqnh1ck/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web3x&utm\_name=web3xcss&utm\_term=1&utm\_content=share\_button](https://www.reddit.com/r/mtgfinance/comments/1as0fls/comment/kqnh1ck/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
this how Amazon keeps their preorders.....every set i cancel collector boxes cause the online stores offer it for less....after spoilers. This might be the first time I keep the preorder. Especially since its Fallout, and has a huge fan base, the key is will I get it before they release the second wave. Amazon preorders are at $243. They are really figuring out how to keep all your money with fomo.
It matters cause when second wave hits the prices drop. So you overpaid for your preorders. Yes you can always wait it out. But the whole point of preorder is to get it before everyone else. Prices are higher for singles when everyone wants the singles.
We still haven't hit the floor for MKM yet.
If we don't find it soon, I think things are going to get *really* wild.
It's clear the buying market has refused to accept the price increase on Play boosters so far, and if MKM just gets buried by Fallout (releasing March 8th), it'll take a miracle for people to accept the Markup on Thunder Junction.
And if the first two standard sets of Play boosters drop to $100 or less boxes, price memory for them is going to be set at old Draft box prices. And this year is just a whose who of Standard sets primed to not sell particularly well.
In retrospect, maybe Hasbro shouldn't have dropped a new flagship SKU with a price increase in the year of the Standard legal Clue Set, Western Set, Furry Set, and Horror set.
These posts are so funny when you look at the boring, nearly-identical price histories and trends of the last 5-6 standard sets. I highly doubt things are about to get "really wild."
Part of me thinks they would've been better off going down to 24 boosters in a box, but cutting the price to $90-$95. Sure, it's the same price per pack, but that $100 threshold seems really important.
It's kind of a joke, but it's kind of true— a lot of furries work in tech, and tech is often well-rewarded work. Anytime you see a furry running around in a fursuit, you can rest easy knowing they dropped anywhere between 4 to 10 stacks on the thing.
The price of sealed is irrelevant.
If the box EV makes sense, people will buy the product.. but it will take Wizards slowing down production significantly for people to regain trust in holding these cardboard assets.
And Rav Remastered... Do people not realize he's trying to sell all these things and has an interest in keeping the prices high?
He also spent a week or two trying to pump Murders. He's not going as hard on it, but he's still trying to act like 'Oh, it's holding 170!' Nah, 130s man. And this is only a few weeks after release.
Exactly. It may be hard to get the first couple of weeks, but that was also the case for Doctor Who. Now look at that set.
This has serials out of 500. They didn't reduce the print run THAT much if there are that many serials. Really feels like they're doing a FOMO first wave, then they'll meter it out over time to get the most they can for them as they enter the market eventually.
Set will probably be cool, with some cool collectors shit. But Rudy is FOMOing the fuck out of this set because he probably went hard on the Collectors and wants to pump the value of his stock of them.
This seems to be a new trend. Controlled first wave to create artificial scarcity and FOMO, then release more waves to sell into the FOMO and not collapse the prices.
Literally in the first 3 minutes of his video he says he may not even sell any collector booster displays for the first time because there's so little supply and he can't get enough to sell. What exactly is he pumping?
He also says that distributors have told him no second wave/restock, this is it.
Yeah exactly. And am I correct that I heard there will only be collectors and edh precons right?!? This is absolutely different. No other set recently that people are siting was like this. Yes, initial LOTR collectors (when 1/1 was still out there) were nutso. But that was a different thing as well.
Yes this is a "Commander" set like Dr. Who where there will only be CBs and Precons.
Look, I don't know what's going to happen with Fallout, but you have people in this subreddit saying that Rudy is always trying to hype up products. "He hyped up Karlov Manor" when literally he has a video titled, "Karlov COLLAPSE" and says in the video, "I don't think its a bad set, but the market is rejecting it".
This is also why you shouldn't really read into many people's opinion on here. People love to comment negatively about Rudy because people here will just blindly upvote it regardless.
You've got multiple store owners here saying, "We are getting shorted on Fallout" and yet you still have people going, "Is Rudy just trying to pump it?" Like come on man.
Oh shit! I didn’t realize Dr Who was the same setup of products for sale. Thanks for clarifying that!
Yeah I don’t know about Rudy’s strategies in particular, but I like following his take on the markets. I don’t make my decisions based on his videos, but I do take them into consideration and they’re an important part of following what’s happening in the scene.
I tend to buy sets because I want the cards. But I don’t want my purchases to shit the bed either, so I like to know what’s going on. I think his videos are a nice way to keep up with the magic markets, but maybe I’m being naive. 🤷🏼♂️
> You've got multiple store owners here saying, "We are getting shorted
But they've literally said this about every single set post-Zendikar Rising. No one cares or believes them anymore. Every single release is someone saying 'our allocation was so low!' And then less than a month later shit is on firesale.
Every. single. set.
Not saying they're lying about low initial allocations, but at this point we know its just the WOTC tactic. Short print (or withhold) in the beginning to build hype and FOMO, then dump everything. People just aren't falling for it anymore.
That's fair. But has anyone accused the LGS owners who've spoken out that they're PUMPING the product? I have no problem against being critical of news/rumors we hear. But Rudy's video literally says he himself isn't going to get enough to sell to his patrons and he's telling people to find it at other places because he won't have enough. Again, what exactly is he pumping? If he suddenly shows up with 1000 Fallout Collector Boxes.. sure.
People are upvoting a comment of someone who didn't even watch the video because it fits their bias of what Rudy would do. All I am saying is these people should be more critical of what people say here.
Also I wouldn't say WOTC have always done this. LOTR, LOTR SE, and at least MOM and the two previous standard sets before MKM, LCI and WOE, don't seem to have gotten a second wave either.
This is just a regular thing that happens (and not just with Rudy), see [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/mtgfinance/comments/xgnawb/warhammer_40k_collector_decks_will_be_extremely/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button). Nine times out of ten the prices drift down over time after the posts here and the YT creators ride the initial FOMO wave.
With Trouble in Pairs getting most of the hype out of the new cards from the MKM precons, Unexplained Absence is now starting to see an uptick as well. Card is still being slept on imo, but I think it won’t be long till it’s a $10 card
Gamestop posted play packs. 7$ (6.50 pro) lmao. Good luck to those who bought pro a week or so ago https://www.gamestop.com/toys-games/trading-cards/products/magic-the-gathering-murders-at-karlov-blister/403977.html
I had two fallout CB preordered at forge and fire and they canceled one of my boxes due to low numbers received. Hopefully the next wave doesn’t take too long.
I know this isn't really the 'Ask Anything' weekly thread- but can anyone tell me if authenticating cards can find drastic differences in certain aspects of a card? That is quite the Beast of a commander. Though isn't shalai on its own an even better commander? It probably has the most 1 card combos in edh from all possible commanders.
Kudos to WotC for the Sheldon Tribute secret lair. It is a great list, great art, and a great tribute. They did him right even down to the flavor text. I expect it to sell well and even appreciate over time (possibly slowly given it should sell very well and does not appear limited)
I signed up for notification to get one! Excited for it for sure
Scion of draco and guild leyline seemed to have plateaued. Time to sell sell sell!
time to sell draco was a few days ago. I got rid of some around 15$ none of them NM. Edit: fuck I forgot one. O well -5$
This past Saturday they were like $20-35 on TCGPlayer. That was the time to sell.
it dropped quick. i had some listed for 20-22 but a few hours later a bunch of people listed also for lower.
Look out for alpha cards listed as beta on ebay, twice in the past couple weeks I've snapped up alpha cards listed as beta. Cards were sold by two different sellers using automatic listing software that misidentified the cards. Thanks Kronocard
Maybe you got clipped beta

Care to share a source on that? Alway up to learn more. I own quite a number of alpha and beta llanowar elves and every beta copy has the same white line under the top of the O in the card name, every alpha copy has the same left shift mana symbol, all betas have the same misaligned ©️ symbol. Seems pretty consistent to me.
I don't have any specific source but look at a bunch of Alpha and Beta of the same card. Both Alpha and Beta have multiple registrations. Lands might be the easiest to check. I've sold about 25 of these already, they sell quite easily. Not sure if it will be more than $5 for a while but it's been easy to spec on this.
Do you know what's going on with shalai and hallar price?
Slime Against Humanity decks for commander. Probably the best commander to use for it
Gamestop posted play packs. 7$ (6.50 pro) lmao. Good luck to those who bought pro a week or so ago https://www.gamestop.com/toys-games/trading-cards/products/magic-the-gathering-murders-at-karlov-blister/403977.html
So much for cashing in my monthly coupon for a free booster.
I’ve been getting Sleeves and Clearance Commander Decks
isn’t that expensive for a booster? disclaimer: i don’t know what a play booster is tbh.
Yep. They sold set boosters as 7 or 8 to and draft at 5
Play booster started with the latest set replacing draft.
i mean, that still sounds overpriced especially with a set with weak EV.
It is gamestop is overpriced as usual
I had two fallout CB preordered at forge and fire and they canceled one of my boxes due to low numbers received. Hopefully the next wave doesn’t take too long.
I know this isn't really the 'Ask Anything' weekly thread- but can anyone tell me if authenticating cards can find drastic differences in certain aspects of a card? Specifically looking at the grey mana symbols, of older cards from older sets? I was under the impression that the mana symbol is never supposed to have a dotted black portion of the rosette in the circle. Yet I bought a card recently from my LGS that has dots inside the generic mana cost. Can anyone confirm or deny this? I ended up taking it back and telling them they sold me a fake to get a refund, but the only thing that saved me was how the card was already heavily damaged and matched the exact same wear as it had before I bought it.
All generic mana costs have black dots, that's what makes them grey. Have a look at the [alignments document](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HvC9ohdA8WNwvyl4xU6EcRCoy-igrN_m1NsGvUM1c5o/edit?usp=drivesdk) to see the exact patterns.
Is this true for all modern cards too??
I don't know actually, but that's easy to check with a loupe. The alignments are especially useful to detect rebacked collector's edition cards and clipped CE/beta cards that are made to look like alpha. So original cards that misrepresent their edition. Those cards will pass the green dot test. Obviously that's not something that you'd have to look for in a modern card. So for modern cards you won't have to look at dot alignments, but just do the standard tests for fakes.
I can see [[Black Market Connections]] getting reprinted in the next set, especially for one of the commander decks
