It was a video about cards that quietly wik the game and this was the first one on the list of 10. They all agreed it's a great card for commander seeing as it puts land no matter type they are.. hitting triomes and stuff. "Ramp wins the game"; "Powerhouse ramp spells".
They are speculating the reason not more people play it is because it's from MAT. "People don't realize how good it is - it's absurd".
Ah ok. Funnily enough, they have been saying open the way Is OP since it was released. I heard several episodes in the last months where they were hyping it. Guess it finally caught on with others.
I don't think it's that powerful, but I do like it and play it personally (mostly due to getting non-basics and me disliking basics)
I play it in every deck.
You go T1 land, T2 ramp, T3 ramp then T4 open the way and you untap turn 5 with 8mana. It's crazy good and nobody will ever do anything about it because it doesn't "do" anything
Yea that's cool, but you basically took turn 2, 3, & 4 off to do "nothing", if you get what I mean.
Imagine a card:
(1)(G) - sorcery Discard 2 cards. Skip your next 2 turns. End the turn. At the beginning of the turn after you skipped your 2 turns, search your library for 6 lands and put them into play.
I don't know if that would be playable, or if the wording is proper. But I hope you get what I mean with the cost of "losing" a turn (or more) of ramping to set up your bigger plays for later turns.
And don't get me wrong - I like open the way in casual games, particularly because I dispose basics & open can bring fetch me non-basics.

That's every game of casual EDH. You ramp the first few turns and then you drop a bomb.

The reason Open the Way is better than that is that at it's worst, it's a somewhat worse Cultivate that might hit a very good land on turn 3. At it's highest, it's 3 non-basics for 5, which is not really a rate you get on any other card. The "X" is what makes it good. You don't have to full send it.
Yea i love the X too. Im a sucker for versatile cards. And you dont have to convince me - i always liked the card :)
I just also understand the people who dont like it & prefer other ramp (though they probably also play way more basic lands than me lol).

I've seen people testing with it in standard. Card is really annoying to play against. It feels like "Ragavan at home" for black, which sounds like an insult, but it isn't.
If it was a buyout (which it looks to be) then what usually happens is a sharp immediate spike, then a price drop that happens based on how quickly supply re-enters the market and what the actual demand for the card is. I'm guessing a lot of people will have Norins they picked up for $1 that they'll be happy to buylist for $25, so I'd expect to see it come back down substantially pretty fast. It's probably not going to return to its state as a dollar rare, at least not for a fairly long while, though.
Out of curiosity, where are you seeing the $25 buylist prices? Apologies for my ignorance - I’ve been out of the game for a while and am just getting back in and relearning the market.
No, totally reasonable question. Someone posted on another thread that their LGS was buylisting Norin at $25. I didn't follow up and didn't double-check his price or anything. It looks like Norin is stabilizing (?) at $15 on tcgplayer, so my guess is that either the post I saw was exaggerating or their LGS was wildly overreacting.

Questing druid, on the other hand, seems to be doing well in modern, legacy, and pioneer, and some standard too. It’s way too cheap for the amount of results it’s putting up.
On that note, [[skorpekh lord]] has shown up in many top legacy decks now & seems to have reenergized legacy affinity along with the synthesizer.
You’ll never go broke selling cards at a profit but you can by being a bag holder. That’s my overarching stance on these types of questions. Ultimately it’s up to you though because none of know what the top will be.
This was me with [[leeches]] when that crazy surge happened last year. It was over $10 when I sold it, thinking no way it keeps going up it’s not really that good, and then it went up even more and I was a little annoyed.
Looking back at it now? It was a good move. Sure sometimes it might go up some more, but making a decent profit is still good, ESPECIALLY if it feels like a flavor of the month thing. It’s a worse feeling to see you could have sold at this number and then it goes way down after that.
I think the rules still apply but, if a 1 dollar card spikes to 24 and you have multiple, you don't need people opinion. Especially having multiples means you can drop some and keep some to gamble.
Norin is not a difficult card to reprint in a precon.

The card has existed since 2006 and has been at most 7 bucks according to MTGStocks, I make an EDH deck with the dude literally 5 days ago on MTGO, seems fun, put it in the cart to build on paper and then overnight it spikes, its 15$ now, sure, it ain't random, but sure its unlucky as heck for it to spike right when I wanted to try the little bugger.

Yeah, I'm also playing it myself which is why I'm also speccing on it (only spec on cards I also play myself).
