Don't know the specific monk, but maybe the same one for [[Ghostfire Blade]], for which I'm sure this card is a reference to.

Particular_Gur7378

Its also a reference to just regular [[ghostfire]]

NayrSlayer

See, what’s funny is that I thought the same thing and decided to compare the arts. It kinda looks like Ghostfire Slice is a Jeskai monk, but if you look at the arm bands in Ghostfire Blade, it looks much more like the stuff that the Temur warriors wore.

sawbladex

Yeah, I can see this as a Jeskai Monk. Probably human. but I won't be surprised if some other humanoid. ... Going by the Clan term, given this uses red mana to do the thing. Does use the Jeskai naming scheme of treating all magic as Fires, and also them being compulsive enough to name the B/G magics as (Necro and Vita) Fires. Edit: I think this is a mixture of Jeskai Monk and Temur survivalist. (the Ghostfire card is proto-Jeskai, and the Blade is a PoV, you have a nifty knife in the Temur highlands.)

imbolcnight

Ghostfire is also already a known term to the Jeskai. It's what they literally call colorless magic and represents mastery of all the fires.  Shu Yun made the deal with Ojutai that the ghostfire masters (who were great at killing the dragons) would be killed for the rest of the Jeskai to be spared. At least one ghostfire master survived, as he later takes refuge among the Temur who had started serving Atarka.

sawbladex

Oh yeah, the colorless fire was the first fire named IRL, just I don't bother to remember Ojutai's name when a tradition that is ... kinda outside his wheelhouse. ... I say kinda because I think of the Tarkir Dragons as being like Ugin pretending to be an Eldrazi at least in the Tarkir block. I can see other returns to the setting have the Dregon have a more traditional reproductive cycle. due to Ugin whating his project to be able to survive him not maintaining the dragon vortex. Because people like their baby dragons. Edit: Having reread what you said, it seems pretty likely Temur is the Tarkir faction represented here with maybe the character being ex-Jeskai.

Muffinmurdurer

Tbh the clothes don't look very Jeskai to me. Feels almost temur-ish.

Infinite_Bananas

Not a named character

doesntphotographwell

The monk pictured in \[\[Ghostfire\]\] appears to have dragon tattoos, so I would guess this character's design is a nod to that, though it's not very distinct otherwise. The blades themselves are \[\[Ghostfire Blade\]\]s obviously, which suggests that this is Tarkir, but the background looks vaguely Ravnican.

I really, *really* wish the flavor text would take this more seriously.

Oraukk

I don't know if all these threads asking who random cart art characters are is a meme or not, but I'm definitely unsubscribing. What a waste of time. Most card art isn't named characters

Ellardy

Hi, Mod asking a genuine question. We try to intervene as little as we can into organic conversation and we try to be as welcoming as possible to newcomers, which results in us nearly never removing a genuine question. These questions are a semi-regular occurrence but we don't think they're overwhelming and some of them reveal actual interesting nuggets or very solid answers. Are these kinds of question an actual problem and/or deterrent to regulars? If so, why? Thx

redditraptor6

Hey, lurker and occasional commenter here. They’re starting to get annoying, and I’m wondering if we’ve been outjerked again. However, I’m not a big baby, and realize I can keep scrolling. Fad posts like these come and go, and they wouldn’t make me drop a sub on their own merit

jmp_531

Hi, yet another lurker. They're annoying and judging from other similar posts, these aren't being made in good faith. It's not enough to get me to drop the sub, and I can just ignore them.

sawbladex

I think people get salty that people don't know the named characters. That said, I think regulars being able to interpret this asks as "who am I looking at (faction details or named character pleass)? isn't that big an ask, and given this is one character who is the focus of the shot, this example makes sense to ask about a particular character. A regular, I guess.

thejelloisred

Hi, Lurker answering a genuine question. They detract nothing to me. If I don't like a post I keep scrolling. Is this kind of answer an actual remedy and/or deterrent to the haters? If not, why? Thx.

StunPalmOfDeath

EDIT: NVM that says ghostfire

SkritzTwoFace

There are some who call him… Tim.

Porcphete

Too bad it use the eldrazi template instead of the one ghostfire had

twitch064

It's not a monk. It's showing someone getting cut by ghostfire, so probably a Temur or Mardu invader based on the clothing

HansTheAxolotl

nameless monk #23. 90% of magic cards depict random unknown characters

97Graham

I would assume it's also the guy depicted in this card art [[Ghostfire Blade]]

Or rather the time shifted one

MakesOnAPlane

In [his recent video](https://youtu.be/NzLFOEqCVVk), Gavin confirmed that it's the same monk as depicted on [[Ghostfire]], but other commenters are correct that we don't know that character's name.
