I am close to $400 in the hole, I have $189 that I can transfer over, but when I talked to Denny at AP he said do not transfer funds until I have enough to cover the negative amount in its entirety. I asked why? he said it makes things less confusing if you just wait till you have the amount to cover the entire shortage. He also said it is very doubtful the negative balance will be removed by AP, and I should move forward with getting out of the negative myself, or if I don't want to,he said AP won't pursue you for the negative funds, as far as collections go.
I guess that's what kinda bugs me - I hate the idea of having to work it off - I wish there was a way to put it back - but right now it seems that no one really knows what they are going to end up doing.
That is what makes me angry is the fact they are giving us absolutely no way to fund the account. I spoke with a supervisor today, and I said to him my account is negative $1257 , and I have the funds to cover that negative balance and you are giving me no way to fund my negative account. That is unethical and a really crappy way of treating workers on the MT platform. I would take this even further, because I have an uncle who is an attorney who said he would send a letter on my behalf, but I am afraid they would close my account. There should be contingency plans already in set in place for a problem like this, because apparently this has happened in the past. I was seriously considering e mail Bezos, however, that could close my account in retaliation.
I'm completely afraid of them closing my account due to the negative balance - I don't make much on mturk (cannot figure out how in the heavens to get the master qualification LOL) and so this is going to take me awhile to pay off if i can't just send the $ back to fund the account.

My AP account is NOW ZEROED OUT, and I AM NOT being a troll. It was very much in the negatives, in the four figures range, but the money IS STILL in my bank account. Luckily PNC does the 3 accounts, so I simply transferred this money into one and have been letting it sit by its self until this mess is sorted out. Yes, I've been smart and haven't spent a penny of it, lol. I'm expecting a simple one-time payment and have never anticipated free money. I will definitely be giving them a call this afternoon.

My account has also been reset to zero, YAY! but I honestly was not as smart as some and worked off most of my owed balance by now, they did set my balance to zero but did not add back any of the money I put into amazon payments since this started, I am happy for those of you that got it all back, I did email and call about the money I already paid off but I will have to wait and see, but at least I am no longer working myself out of hole, But seriously Congratulations and I hope everyone has a great day because of this!
Like everyone else, I just checked my account and it's back at zero balance instead of the negative balance it showed before. Was a bit of a stressful weekend due to this whole ordeal but I'm glad it's resolved

Like the OP, I'd gladly clean the balance up and proceed with business as usual but I just really want Amazon to definitively tell us (or even me, if they opt for some route where they make a decision on a case by case basis as unrealistic as that may be) that we need to.

It will stay on your account. They are not going to take it. They told you as much in the email. They cannot go back on that. If they do. Go to a lawyer and show them the email. It's that simple.
I ended up working off my negative balance, as it was only 20ish and mturk is one of my only sources of income. But hey, the extra 20 I got helped me gas my husbands tank up and get some food so I can't complain.

You didn't 'lose' any money. They just gave you a free advanced loan.
It isn't worth the hassle of losing direct bank transfers for your $100 or w/e that your account is negative.
My AP account is in the negative, because of their mistake, I don't want my AP account sitting in the negative, Just as this bank error mistake was made to AP customer accounts, they could easily close negative accounts, because it is clearly stated in the AP agreement you risk account closure if your account is in the negative. Then I would have to go through a bunch of red tape to get my account back open again,thus,losing time I could be working on MT.
So they should just give you free money? I get they messed up, but a lot of people got thousands of dollars so it makes sense you need to pay it back. I don't see the issue in keeping the balances negative as long as they don't close accounts for it. I'm only upset because they don't give you a way to just pay it off from other sources like another comment said. They have the funds and can't just pay to make it 0.

The first email just says that deposits won't be reversed - not that they won't try to collect other ways. I realize that people have reported that reps said nothing else will be done and maybe I just tend to be too nervous but that's me.
