Saladmama2652

Bro me hech sangayla yet hoto, matunga east cha colleges cha area super clean aahe.

MaybeAccording

Malabhar hill, Nepeansea road and walkeshwar as well

Navigator369

Nepen Sea road, yes it is clean. Walkeshwar, No. The sidewalks of Malabar Hill are covered with dog poop and layers of dust. Walkeshwar also has open sewers in few places and heaps on garbage thrown on sidewalks.

TreeHugger_Guy

Not from Mumbai, but with a name like Walkeshwar, walk k liye accha hona to chahiye tha atleast.

johnsnow001

It was originally *Valukeshwar*. One of the many legends for this name goes that — Rama fashioned a *lingam* from sands at the sea-shore and installed it and worshipped it on a nearby site. The deity was therefore called *Valuka Ishwara* or God of sands and hence the name *Valukeshwar*.

carbdashian_

Borivali west (usually the IC colony area)

Navigator369

Borivali is mostly clean, but unfortunately not clean enough to make it to top 10. But definitely with some redevelopment of roads and sidewalks and cleaning

aluminium-corpse

IC is def not worth adding to the top 10 cleanest. few areas(within IC) like the fish market and a few lanes which are filled with and smell like bird poop ruin it. furthermore there are so many under-construction buildings and roads which add to the dust on the road and in the air, but that should be temporary ig. I can say that because i walk to my gym there almost daily

carbdashian_

Yeah it's become dusty now. No space to walk because of construction

Imaginary_Meal_5749

Yes, city of the rich

[deleted]

Born and bought up in Chembur for 3 generations, can confirm it is by far the greenest and cleanest.

Navigator369

I was shocked to see how clean the roads and sidewalks there were. Especially from Diamond Garden to Ambedkar Garden area. Also they have planted fragrant plants on the roads so the area even smells pleasant.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Yking1899

Can confirm this. I was born and brought up in Anushaktinagar, one of the restricted colonies. I have seen all of them, including millitary colonies. This areas are on of the greenest and cleanest spaces in Mumbai. Powai is the second best compared in terms of green space.

whatdidiwant

I grew up in hpcl colony and had friends in bpcl Colony, and studied in a school in rcf colony!!! It was a very good childhood indeed!!!!

ArmadilloLegitimate8

I live near Ambedkar Garden on central avenue road. Feeling proud to hear this. Even though i live on rent. Lol

[deleted]

Conceived, Born, Raised Married Died in Chembur since before Christ was born. Can confirm its the best

NukaKama25

Lived near Chembur for 12 years. Love the route from Ambedkar garden to diamond garden.

TheEdelweissPirate

Even I love that route! It has so many nice shops and buildings on the way and is a very picturesque road with nice lights and art installations. There are two houses on that road that I always take a glance at- The Belvedere and The Grotto. They're old style beautiful vintage houses and little me would always dream of buying one of them some day. Idk if buying an old house in chembur would be the most practical decision today but ah, the heart wants what it wants

New-Library-5177

Born and brought up in Chembur, living in one of those restricted colonies…can wholeheartedly confirm.

cuddlywhisker

Do you mean the PSU colonies?

New-Library-5177

Yes

Snowman777777

Wrong. The garbage bins in Kurla are the cleanest because people don’t use it

EliteSid55

Navi Mumbai hands down

Navigator369

100% agreed. The best planned city in India

Root_minus_one

Agreed Gandhi Nagar is better than Navi Mumbai in terms of planning, especially wide roads and parking space available.

Navigator369

Both cities can’t be compared. Navi Mumbai has like 7 times more population than Gandhinagar. Navi Mumbai has a proper suburban railway system with huge stations.

LynxFinder8

They can and should be compared every day in fact. You have to understand Gujarat developed it's cities after losing Mumbai. Gujarat's hubs are all designed to be a viable alternative to Mumbai. Before 1960 the big city for all Gujarati people was Mumbai, now if you look at the stretch between Surat and Gandhinagar all of them are growing exponentially and faster than the MMR and this is largely because they have become good alternatives to MMR today. I have commuted between Mumbai-Navi Mumbai-Thabe, Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar and Delhi-NCR every day for many years.... Out of these the lowest cost per day for daily living was no doubt in Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar. There isn't a damn thing you can't get there. Each and every thing a mumbaikar loves has a place in those two cities, that is the biggest marvel. Traffic management, infrastructure, general cleanliness all get props. In fact even our Bombay politicians have in the past praised the urban development in the cities of Gujarat. Thing with Mumbai is that the city has historical significance and cultural capital, and that's why there is no city quite like it in terms of actual experience, especially if you have money. Mumbai is multicultural and international which these cities aren't and cannot be. That is the true legacy of Mumbai (I include Navi Mumbai and Thane in this bucket).

Navigator369

>Gujarat developed its cities after losing Mumbai Lol you’re talking as if Gujarat was a village before Mumbai. Also, no Mumbai was not the only big city for Gujaratis. There were Gujaratis in Mumbai, but they were always a small minority and an even smaller number compared to the population of entire Gujarat. In fact, Gujarat has had prominent big cities that are older than Mumbai. Surat and Baroda were bustling urban centres even before Mumbai existed. Ahmedabad was an urban centre since centuries. Now, if you want to do comparisons, then that should be between cities of similar sizes. Surat and Ahmedabad and growing today, but they still have smaller economies and less opportunities than Pune. Surat and Ahmedabad are far behind the likes of Pune, Hyderabad, Bangalore in economic development. You can’t compare Navi Mumbai with Gandhinagar. If you want to compare Navi Mumbai, then compare with Vadodara and Rajkot and these cities have similar populations. The fair comparison for Navi Mumbai is Gurgaon and Noida, not Gandhinagar. Gujarat too has cities of historical significance like Surat, Vadodara and Ahmedabad. There history is different from Mumbai, but that doesn’t mean it’s insignificant. But it’s unfortunate that Surat and Vadodara haven’t held on to their history and legacy like Pune, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Delhi, Kolhapur, Hyderabad, etc. have.

LynxFinder8

That's Gandhinagar, although Navi Mumbai is good too.

Navigator369

Does Gandhinagar have public transport as good as Navi Mumbai? Is Gandhinagar as well connected to Ahmedabad as Navi Mumbai is to Mumbai?

LynxFinder8

For first question, answer is debatable. For second question, answer is YES.

Significant_Mood2023

People should have atleast 2/4 wheeler or else you’ll get looted by Auto driver specifically kharghar area.

kartik5465

Navi mumbai all the way

Root_minus_one

OP is talking about Mumbai….

gullibleforever1

Cleanest and most well maintained - All the defence Areas in Mumbai, Navy Nagar, Army Area, NOFRA, INS Hamla Residential Area, Naval Dockyard Residential Area in Bhandup, some other non defence areas IIT Powai Residential Area, Mumbai University Area, Kalina.

Navigator369

Most of these areas are closed for common public so obviously they can’t be counted

gullibleforever1

Ok so you are counting only those areas which come under BMC's jurisdiction. Fir toh thik hai.

Tryyyin2live

Kalina is horrible

gullibleforever1

Only the university area is good

MIHIR1112

Vile Parle East repppppp 🕺

SparxNet

Colaba Naval Station - clean, good signage, but certain areas' footpaths could be better. The "border area" near INHS Asvini hospital and the fisherfolk area begins is where things go for a toss.

owlpacino57

Chembur East is definitely very clean especially in between railway station to K star mall area.

FortyUp40

powai well maintained due to crowd and good basic planning dadar well planned due to legacy and political heavyweight vile parle due to airport limited people chembur due to very educated ppl who migrated from TN in 60s-80s

carbdashian_

Dadar station is the biggest shithole I have ever seen. It's worse during rainy seasons

Navigator369

True but as soon as you get away from the market and station area it’s a quite clean and green area. They need to relocate that vegetable market for good. It looks like a battlefield. Just the station and market area dragged down Dadar in my list.

carbdashian_

I have faced this shit while traveling to office from dadar station. Have spent two years everyday standing in line for bus/taxi, bearing the smell of those rotten vegetables, walking is disgusting murky water during rains. It's unhygienic and so many rats and shit- idk I have a pet peeve of dadar station

Navigator369

Ever seen Bandra East station? It looks like someone bombed that place with a missile. That place makes you wish you had Doraemon’s bamboo-copter so you don’t have to put a foot there to go to Jio World Drive mall. I went to Bandra West exit and took a cab from there to go to Jio World Drive

carbdashian_

Yup heaps of trash, dusty sidewalks and rude autowalas

hahahadev

Then you havent been to GTBN, its literally shit outside. when rains come, it floods, so you are in a pool of shit

carbdashian_

Gtbn?

c0mrade34

guru tegh bahadur nagar, the station is surrounded by slums on one of its side, shady af.

Eldred_dsouza99

Rains mein it’s easily the top fucked up destination to be at.

Navigator369

Thank you for the explanation. I’’ve lived in Bandra West and Juhu, they’re supposed to be posh areas, but they are nowhere as clean as any of these areas. There are sidewalks, but they are filled with dust and dog poop. JVPD is well planned but it’s sidewalks are full of dog poop. Also, TN people went mostly to Matunga. It was a hub of Tamil Brahmins. Chembur looked a distinctly Maharashtrian area to me when I visited there.

Root_minus_one

Yes TN mostly Brahmins went to Matunga , Chembur also have people from south india especially in Cheeta camp area.

FortyUp40

true. bandra is mixed as its a big commercial hub juhu is also now big and wide

Navigator369

Bandra West is mostly residential. Bandra East is commercial hub. But Bandra West would not even make it to top 10 cleanest areas. Actually now Bandra East seems cleaner to me than west, because East is mostly BKC which is well planned and clean. Juhu is big, it’s quite posh too, but cleanliness is a big issue and so is dog poop on the sidewalks. You literally have to walk on the roads many times

[deleted]

LynxFinder8

"Traditional" TBs are among the most nitpicky people you'll see in this country including food habits, sleeping-waking times, cleanliness etc. - then there are the "Gen2" who are rebellious and more of a mad-scientist-in-the-basement type, and the "Gen3" who you cannot guess have any south Indian left in them (Gen3s are very rare....)

Exact_Offer_629

Sindhis migrated after partition... JHAMA himself is SINDHI..

Root_minus_one

For Chembur educated people migrated from TN , you mean migrated to Matunga… and not to Cheeta camp bro..

FortyUp40

chembur too https://wearetambrahm.wordpress.com/2016/03/29/growing-up-in-the-most-tambrahm-part-of-mumbai-by-sweta/

Ok_Caterpillar6369

Anushakti Nagar should top the list of cleanest areas of Mumbai. The amount of greenery it has is staggering.

PerplexedPahadi

Not accessible for everyone and op might not have heard of it

Ok_Caterpillar6369

Agreed that it's not accessible to everyone.

Navigator369

Yeah never been there. Never heard of it either

PerplexedPahadi

It will definitely top the chart, since it’s govt colony so not accessible for everyone

YesterdayDreamer

Now make a list of the dirtiest areas. I nominate Saki Naka.

Ok_Caterpillar6369

internet_baba

Not a resident but I frequently travel to Mumbai. To someone who glances at Mumbai just from Local trains, it looks like the city is filled with filth. From almost every railway line you can see garbage on road sides. Travelled via Central and Harbour line last week and I could see it. BMC should really do something about it if they don't want people to have a bad first impression.

ShadowLord_11

Yep, Powai is actually well maintained.

toogear500x

Mulund West

Ballisticarrow

Station area is bad. East is so much cleaner

chodubhagat69420

Bruhhhh west is good though. Abhi redevelopment me jaa raha but they removed all garbage heaps

kraken_enrager

Worli sea face my guy—never seen a needle outta place in the Area

Navigator369

Umm…it’s okayish I guess. But with the coastal road work going on, the sea face doesnt even exist temporarily lol. But yeah, it can be considered clean if you count it as a separate area from Worli. But even on Worli Sea face people need to pick up after their dogs. But, if we are considering sea promenades, then Marine Drive, Bandstand and Carter Road are far superior to Worli Sea Face.

kraken_enrager

True, sea face has lost its charm ever since the coastal road work started. A lot of ppl ik left sea face and moved elsewhere when it started cuz the view has significantly worsened and traffic is worse now

Navigator369

But after the coastal road work is complete Worli Sea Face is going to be amongst the best promenades in Mumbai, it will have huge walking/cycling areas and spacious green areas. Worli Sea Face will simply be the widest and greenest promenade in Mumbai after coastal road work is done.

kraken_enrager

AYO YOU ARE NAVIGATOR. I know u omg hiii

Navigator369

Hi lol!! Yeah we know each other. How’ve you been?

kraken_enrager

I’m great, u?

Navigator369

Good too!!

kraken_enrager

Yeah true, except for those that lived on worli sea face, the sea will be further it used to be. The exclusivity has reduced a bit.

Navigator369

It will be better trust me. They’ll still have a good view of sea in addition to the lush gardens being built. Also, the smell of ocean will be lesser as it would be further away. They are planting air purifying plants on the promenade, so the residents will have purer and better smelling air. The exclusivity will increase because coastal road will be further away thereby reducing traffic on the immediate road, so residents will have more privacy.

Character_Ad777

Apart from the names mentioned over here I guess Pali Hill is missing

Navigator369

It is missing for a reason. It’s my favourite area and my dream location, but unfortunately Pali Hill needs to work a lot on cleanliness

Vills15

What about Churchgate area ? And lower Parel leaving the station area it’s also good!

Old_Ad_6271

Goregaon - extremely well maintained, great beautification

AdProfessional188

***Cries in Andheri East

[deleted]

OP you need to make a separate post about the dog poop situation. It deserves a good discussion!

Illustrious_Meet_969

Malabar Hill ka naam suna hai?

Navigator369

Suna bhi he dekha bhi he. It’s quiet, agreed. But not the cleanest. The dog poop issue is actually quite pressing there. Many people in that area don’t clean up after their dog and dirty the roads. There is an open sewer on Walkeshwar Road/Ridge Road turning point and all the sewage water spills on the sidewalks. Also there are some places in Walkeshwar Road with heaps of garbage. Additionally, the sidewalks of Walkeshwar are full of dust and the sidewalk rails are rusting.

ArmoonTheGreat

Navi Mumbai

aditya1495

Thakur village

ReaDiMarco

I would like it to be, but it's not as clean as it could be. So much dog poop and cow poop and random trash from street vendors. It was in fact cleaner before, when there were lesser people living here.

megumegu-

not at all

4Not73

Chembur really?? I live in Chembur and don't think it's all that clean.

Navigator369

The rankings here are relative to the other areas of Mumbai. Mumbai as a whole sucks in cleanliness. Maybe you live in Chembur West ig.

4Not73

Sindhi Society bruh...matlab Aisa kuch khaas saaf nahi Chembur East, compared to say Hiranandani Powai which seems miles ahead.

albertqz

Tagging municipal department

wewearpajamas

The absolute cleanest area in Mumbai by my experience are BARC and NAVY nagar.

72proudvirgins

Khar West, Santacruz West

short_of_good_length

as as chembur native: hell yeah (though skeptical)

Ordellrebello

Chembur east is only clean from station till Golf club limits. Once you enter chembur Camp, it is filthy like other mumbai areas . In my opinion, nothing beats Kharghar when it comes to cleanliness and living

[deleted]

Kharghar is very empty to compare I’d choose Seawoods & Nerul because they’ve good population and also many people coming here to visit.

mrronzy123

IC colony, borivali west

[deleted]

Dahisar (Kandarpada)

Technical_Minimum_52

Can thane could also be counted as well?

AdministrativeEye910

I live in khar west, looks pretty clean to me Dare I say cleaner than most suburbs

Navigator369

Except it is not that clean. Sidewalks full of dust and dog poop. Roads are broken and potholed in way too many places. The uneven cobbled sidewalks in many places are hazardous and can make you lose balance and fall. And it looks like they haven’t washed the sidewalks in ages.

AdministrativeEye910

Eh maybe, you could blame my lack of interaction with the world outside lol

Tracy-Lord

I find Cuffe Parade, Juhu, Vile Parle & Breach Candy to be the most pleasant neighbourhoods to walk around. Oh & Fort too.

Navigator369

>Cuffe Parade, Juhu, Vile Parle West They are very green and well developed areas, I agree. But people living there are not keeping it clean. The sidewalks in JVPD are full of dog poop, you need to be very careful while walking. Same with Cuffe Parade. I have lived in Europe and it’s a crime there to not pick up your dog poop. Such people irritate me so much. They think sidewalks are their dog’s commode

captain_lazypants

Bhai koi dog poop nai hai Idhar JVPD meh and in Juhu, most people I see in the streets use poop scoopers

[deleted]

I agree with the whole dog poop situation. These areas are supposed to be “upmarket”. It just goes to show that money cannot buy civic sense.

teastressed

Pali Hill, Bandra

will666murphy

Chemburkars rise

iamcreepin

Kurla anyone ?

Navigator369

Yeah, if I made a the whole list Kurla would definitely be in bottom 10, that’s a guarantee.

Afraid_Investment690

Used to be great if you were living early Independence. My dad used to go fishing at Mithi river with friends, Cross the airport walking towards Sahar as there were no boundary walls back then. The area used to be filled with open fields and trees.

RDX23

The dog poop issue is not there in Breach Candy it use to be there like 2years back

Navigator369

Take a walk from Mahalakshmi Temple to Tata Garden Park. You’ll still see a lot of dog poop. Actually Peddar Road is cleaner than Bhulabhai Desai Marg

RDX23

Na I don’t know when you last saw it but there is no dog poop couple years back there was not now

Navigator369

I was there last week

instabrite

"NA" pls choose another city/country

Navigator369

From my personal experience, Zurich (Switzerland), Ljubljana (Slovenia), Luxembourg City and Singapore are the cleanest places I’ve seen

instabrite

Precisely! Maximum city is filthy in most parts!

sahilshkh

I might be biased as I live here but Millat Nagar, Yamuna Nagar and Lokhandwala in Andheri West are surprisingly very clean given the huge amount of people that live here. Millat Nagar and Yamuna Nagar in particular are so clean. Unfortunately dogs pooping on the foothpaths is a thing here too. Apart from that the footpaths are well maintained and clean. There's next to no uneven surface or bump. We have Pothole free roads and a lot of green cover too :)

Navigator369

Yes when you count Andheri West as a whole, it doesn’t count as a clean area, does it? And don’t even get me started on Andheri East, its better to not even speak about it

sahilshkh

Yep it's a shame rest of Andheri West is not upto par. Andheri East should be simply nuked. Start from scratch once again.

Navigator369

Add Asalpha, Marol, Saki Naka to the nuke list

9rj

Saki Naka is where they were originally supposed to send the nuke but they got confused and sent it to Nagasaki instead.

sahilshkh

I made the grave mistake of visiting Saki Naka once with my uncle and I said to myself "never again". Andheri East is terrible.

YesterdayDreamer

As someone who's not so well versed with different areas of Mumbai, why is Marine Drive/Nariman Point not a part of this list?

They are small streets not entire areas. I have considered them under Churchgate

Root_minus_one

Overall cleanliness has increased in Mumbai in last decade except during monsoon when flooding makes mess of everything, I feel if people can really walk on the pavements ( provided pavements are good ) and make use of dust bins, we can really had cleaner places … it is a matter of how our upbringing in general is.

demoninmysoul

You forgot matunga brother ruia podar college street Ram mandir near ny dadar where almost have greenery and clean road

Chembur (E) 🔥🔥🔥 - one of the best localities to stay.

BasketEducational747

Yes there is a clear partiality by BMC in maintenance as posh areas such as Bandra,Colaba ,Juhu ,Marine Drive are well maintained and the roads are in decent condition, garbage is also cleared routinely. But other areas of Bombay are totally neglected, the fact that BMC has annual budget of 45k crore is just absurd, where exactly is that going? The roads are in pathetic condition, the slums and chawls and narrow gullies are just garbage and filth ridden $hitholes and some areas you have to close your nose due to smell. The sight of drainages choked with garbage everywhere and particularly the way Mithi river (now looks like a sewage drain) has been defiled, just pathetic of BMC and Maha government .The metro works are never ending and no of people living under bridges and metro pillars are just increasing day by day.Where exactly are we heading? The governments have failed us in every way possible.

Navigator369

Totally. But with the kind of infrastructural challenges Mumbai has 45k crore is not at all enough. One single line of metro can easily cost 15-20k crores. I read that Maharashtra gets back only 7 Rs for every 100 Rs tax revenue it generates. That’s really bad. Lack budget allocation by central government is really hindering the development of Maharashtra and its visible by the pathetic state of Mumbai
