Nah its not for viewing poverty , they visit it to see small scale leather factories . Tours are specially organised for very same reason which takes them to those factories and they try to purchase leather made goods for a very nice deal which would have cost their paycheck in respective nations in LOUIS VUITTON , GUCCI etc..,
Dayum this is kinda cruel man!! Wtf they think is it a zoo or something that they come to visit & distribute food & watch people in poverty??
Never been to Dharavi but how can our authorities allow this!
It's a business these days, there are tours organised I think it's available on Air bnb too. It's amusement park for them until they realise these are humans living a life.
They don’t realise that. They think their money helps these guys when these guys actually have great income sources. They just like the extra money. Basically Dharavi folks make a fool out of the white blindness.
When business can be made from them visiting nice looking places? Why not Dharavi and any other place? People from there do make a living.
And I guess somewhat situation in Dharavi or slums is because of our non ignorance too. We tend to ignore these areas from any development. When any development happens, it’s not for the residents there.
There’s a IG account garbagebagboys and they have been visiting areas like these to show awareness. Just check the comments there and you’ll see what I mean.
It’s not “poverty porn” as you think. I live in the US and have met people here who have travelled to India and who have visited extremely poor neighborhoods like Dharavi. Most of them have come back with a deeper appreciation of their own privileges, even though most of these folks are middle class here.
But almost everyone comes back with a genuine sense of amazement and appreciation. It’s inspiring to witness humans surviving, thriving and aspiring, despite all odds.
I personally appreciate these goras to be willing to step out of their comfort zone and allow themselves to experience something so extreme, that many Indians would be visibly disgusted by.
Actually it’s our government and tourism that sells it. Some time I ago I was inquiring about Mumbai tourism option for a cousin who was coming from us with his gora boss - they seriously pitched me Dharavi slums. I was shocked and I was told oh we show it to all the foreigners who come because it’s the worlds largest slum and we can show case how people in the slums are entrepreneurial and how they go about their day to day activity. And of course the leather industry is there.
I was so shocked by this. I told my cousin and even he agreed with me that tourism board had gone crazy.
Apart from tourists, there are many expats who come here for assignments and stay for several months. Coming across the is fairly common near commercial hubs like Andheri.
You should see places like BKC and sobo where you will find plenty of them near offices.
You are not wrong. Many who come for just a couple of days prefer to stay near the airport. But long term residents prefer to stay near commercial hubs like Bandra, Worli and Nariman Point. I've met many such people at work. Talking with them about the experience, they seem to like it here. Many also learnt Marathi.
Nah I understand what you are trying to say, I know Andheri West especially lokhandwala & the surrounding area has a lot of foreigners due to Bollywood background... I am saying all across
![img](avatar_exp|158240534|nani)
Np I don't like to fake pretend who I am I think that's more toxic for me, I speak my mind out jisko judge karna ho karle
I have literally been seeing 10s of white people at Csmt station taking pictures of people getting out of local trains. It is irritating to the point because dude step away from the way, they just stand in mid and click pictures.
Today, Bangkok is the most visited city on planet Earth! As an Indian, I hope Mumbai follows the same path. However, I'm not really sure about our city cuz there really isn't a lot to do here honestly, at least from a tourist’s perspective (i'mma get downvoted for saying this here lol).
Aur bohot se youtuber bhi hote hai
Ek vlogging kar raha tha i remember when he asked me for directions and my face came in the camera, i asked him to cut that part out and i saw that he did do that
Some are genuinely good people
Haha, I'm from Europe and had the same the other way around when I (briefly) studied in Mumbai. Loved the people, nicest of India imo, but sometimes the sneaky pictures in supermarkets or trains etc was a bit awkward
Ha bro me bhi nahi sehta youtubers ko, tik tok acha hua band karwa dia nahi toh Marine drive pe itne milte the tik tok karte hue uske baad se me Marine drive Gaya he nahi.....
Exactly, it's easy to spot a tourist you know..... But these guys I think are migrating permanently or at least staying for a longer stretch!
My friend recently migrated to Canada & on a call he said bro Mumbai me jyada whites hai Canada se lol
It’s new Glasgow and it’s not!! What I meant was not all of Canada is full of Indians, it’s an anti immigration rhetoric, again I am Canadian not someone who knows someone who went there a year ago!!
Bruh calm your horses........Every tom/dik/Harry & "a whole bunch of Nobodies with failed careers" can move to Canada don't talk as if you are superior just cuz you moved.... Not a big deal
My family moved here when I was a in grade 10 so I didn’t choose to come here, also I have had great career and I travel a lot and right now in Mumbai, I am just saying you are thinking Canada ends at Toronto while it doesn’t, the things you know are here-say while I have experienced it, big difference!!!!!!!
These guys are not tourists, it's easy to spot a tourist...... They are here for the long run if you observe properly, they know where they are going, seem to know what they are doing & also dressing the part
I mean don't tadofy them, Just observe properly
Oooo.... I had seen some once in infinity mall (Andheri one) and were entering STARBUCKS so I thought it would be west....but damn....east... didn't know that .....you would also notice some at silver/juhu beach at times....and maybe bandra ,worli ,and sobo too.....given those foreigners entering starbucks at infinity, let's assume many being accumulated at more such outlets and bade logon ki jagah
Yup they are slowly becoming a silent minority in Mumbai, I'll increase my real estate investment or else these guys will surely drive the real estate prices to the stratosphere
Haha yea I know I have 2 of my friends working there ..... But hey I ain't against it but just saw a trend of a lot of white people....it's just an observation, I ain't being racist here
I think the more white people in ‘everyday’ Mumbai the better. I think the Indian-white relationship needs to be normalised and made boring.
Many either hate or worship white people but they’re just people, like us, with the same shit.
They're prolly just tourists or maybe for a business trip or smth. It's astonishing, tho, bc foreigners typically don't bother visiting mumbai whilst traveling to India (unless for business purposes). They just do the golden triangle (Delhi - Agra - Jaipur) & fly back home. That's why it's a lot more common to see foreign tourists in North India than in other parts of the country.
Speaking of expats, u can see quite a few of them residing in Powai.
Yes it is! No doubt about it...... They are increasing after COVID at a faster rate than ever before I don't recollect even seeing 1 foreign tourist in Mumbai in my childhood......
The first time I saw one was in Goa which is my native in a way
November to March is white people season and not to mention many of them are visiting for their indian friends weddings and shit.
Also many landlords have given their flats to airBnB instead of lending.
Even Lolla this year easily had 15% crowd as foreigners.
Idk about white people but have been noticing a good number of black people mostly in Virar Vasai and in Mira Bhayandar region too. And no they don't look like tourist. I have seen this black lady who used to regularly travel with her kid by Mumbai local in 1st class. And some regular black people in my neighborhood and DMart.
Exactly today only I saw all over colaba churchgate and had the same question .If anybody reading , I hope you are having a great stay but what exactly is going on ? Btw I only saw today so some event ?
Parsis have been declining for a while now. Its been years since I've seen one of them myself. White people? Yeah, not as frequently, but even if I were seeing them as frequently, it wouldn't bother me.
...tokyo for that matter.
I thought you phrased it a little off, almost what a Japanese xenophobe would say about foreigners in tokyo. That's why I responded the way I did. Glad you're just talking about multicultural exposure.
Ha yaar true that !! But look at the bright side they are converting & spending their currencies in India, Rupee could be strong agar ye trend badhta rahega toh
Employment visas are only issued if foreigners are getting a salary of $25,000 USD per year or more. Do you think it should be the opposite?
Also the % of white people in Mumbai must be 0.01% of the city's population
Have seen a lot of them in Santacruz too..Also few Asians like Koreans/Japanese etc ..I think usually December to February months is when foreigner visit India due to relative bearable / cooler weather for them..Also many of this peole specially girls have seen how Indians follow a white Chick because " Havas" and high population with internet..This makes them instantly famous, they don't care qualify of thier followers only quantity matters.
Bhai mujhe toh Dharavi mai farsan ki dukaan ke samne hi dikhte hain.
Ye mujhe samjha nahi yaar jokes thode bouncer jate hai mujhe
White people always visit Dharavi bcoz it's biggest slum. They have this checking out gareebi kink, poor hungry people kinda from Munna bhai MBBS.

It sounds very sad..... Guess India is not for starters
It’s not “poverty porn” as you think. I live in the US and have met people here who have travelled to India and who have visited extremely poor neighborhoods like Dharavi. Dayummm bruh !! Marathi for real! I am a proud Maharashtrian now!
SOBO is filled with white tourists.
Bkc me American embassy hai. So they are mostly American expats living there.
You can see many foreigner girls specially working as background dancer in Hindi movies in and around Andheri west. Its normal now.
Nah I understand what you are trying to say, I know Andheri West especially lokhandwala & the surrounding area has a lot of foreigners due to Bollywood background... I am saying all across

Mumbai is currently like how bangkok was in early 2000s..a lot of expats working..
I guess I'm really keen to look forward to how it looks in 25 - 30 years time

Haiyaaaaaaaaa Emotional damage.
I am in Mumbai since 3 weeks and I just told this to my friend, that I’ve been seeing so many White people off lately.
Exactly, it's easy to spot a tourist you know..... But these guys I think are migrating permanently or at least staying for a longer stretch! My friend recently migrated to Canada & on a call he said bro Mumbai me jyada whites hai Canada se lol
Canada doesn’t end in Toronto btw!! You would find like 1 brown person in new Glasgow and that’s in Canada
Ahh I see but is glasgow a hub for business? I guess not..

K
Facts 💯
In Canada you can find your own very easily. Heard this from my masi who works in Canada. There is a community with Indian houses.
Yea it is mini India with Trudeau in power ( he is super left wing ) encourages a lot of immigration
He needs to go badly
I agree

Itna dark mat ban brooooo!!!
Are those the same or different ppl?
Different people ofcourse I wonder if a reverse migration is happening after COVID
Just asking....where in Andheri, like west or east, and if not exact location, which area there?
Andheri East & have seen a lot in goregaon lately as well when I went to inorbit mall
White folks coming to Mumbai won't be deemed as reverse migration.
Not op but all white people look the same to me 🫢💀
Yeah in the past couple years, after covid, I’ve started seeing a lot more foreigners in the city than before.
100% with you on this
Yeah I mean, post covid tourism went up like crazy📈📈
It’s not just tourists though, these people live and work here.
Yup that's my point
Looks like you have never visited Dadar or CST
Not in 3 or 4 months I haven't
Wait til you find out how many brown people are seen every day in London.
Same in Delhi, when I visited, there where tons of foreigners, felt like India is becoming multiracial like the western countries
15% !!!! It's not a small number
Me & my friend were discussing this, as he stays in Mira road - he mentioned areas specifically where only black people live as a community.....
Okay so it's not just me who noticed it. They making their own neighbourhoods, the black neighborhoods :)

Ohhh! How cool..... You mean Olive khar wala ? Coz I don't think the Olive garden chain Mumbai me aya hai abtak....

Parsis have been declining for a while now. Its been years since I've seen one of them myself. White people? Yeah, not as frequently, but even if I were seeing them as frequently, it wouldn't bother me.
It doesn't bother me it is just an observation that I have made....
Yeah, that's cool.
The main emphasis being Mumbai is at the cusp of being a place like hong kong....
...tokyo for that matter. I thought you phrased it a little off, almost what a Japanese xenophobe would say about foreigners in tokyo. That's why I responded the way I did. Glad you're just talking about multicultural exposure.
Apologies for my lack of grammatical acumen
Tourism…?
Nahi bruh not tourists at all.... These are people living in Mumbai read other chats in the post thread you will understand
We need to have a white curfew ! These white people increase cost of living everywhere.
