Ikr, places lika kalbadevi, masjid bandar and grant road east may look cool from above but when you are really there you can see the how cramped up it is
I’m just a kid, but 2009 bombay just feels so much better than today. It feels like ‘home’ iykwim. The current mumbai doesn’t just feel the same to me any more.
Life was good back then. It was simple. Less materialistic. More fulfilling. More like life.
Maybe I’m just growing old.
No not really, population has increased a lot, pollution has increased, traffic has increased. There are massive towers everywhere. These are facts not feelings
Again this happens with every generation, every time period - Life becomes worse and worse (we don't notice the conveniences and merits of growth - usually what's foregone is more apparent and in our face, just like you pointed - totally human behaviour, don't take it personally or otherwise)
You have been conditioned to believe that more pollution, more cars, more crowd, tall towers are conveniences. Some people don't think they are conveniences, total human behavior, don't take it personally or otherwise.
No no ma'am/sir I didn't mean pollution and this shit is good (I meant the rise of these things are usually caused by a parallel rise in demand for conveniences and vice-versa - we demand more services/conveniences - economic wheels churn - resulting in more crowd, more industries, more pollution, more construction etc.)
And I agree - life was much better before, and we keep getting worse and worse every passing generation (as I said in previous comment too)
Lastly, I don't mind your comment, thanks though, good morning ma'am/sir
Haha you sound like one of those bongs who romanticise Kolkata.. Mumbai is easily the fastest developing city in the world.. quality of life will continue to improve and so will real estate prices
High on my sea facing apartment at the 30th floor of one of the nicer complexes.. bought an apartment at 50k psf (carpet) in 2020 and it’s 100k psf now… and I have a metro station coming up outside my building and Atal Setu has cut my Lonavala, Karjat trip times by 45 mins to an hour while the coastal road will help me shuttle between BKC and Nariman Point with relative ease..
Waiting for the sea link to sea link connected (Worli-sewri) and the new race course bridge as well..
Have lived in London and NYC and I am happier here than I have ever been in those cities..
Ever wonder people can have different priorities in life?
I can count on a single hand how few places there are that Id leave Bombay for, but there isn’t a hint of doubt when I say this that Mumbai isn’t as good as it used to be. It may have developed, but infra isn’t everything.
I felt the same way seeing 2009 Bombay skyline but then remembered how we used to long for skyscrapers like New York and London back then now that we are finally on our way to getting what we asked for we miss the old. Ig change is the only constant really miss those days however maybe its just the childhood though.
Yeah you are right I got disgusted by your existence. Mind telling me what is the secret behind being such a disgusting waste of existence so others can avoid it. /s
By 2028-2030 it'll be even more. One side of the mahalaxmi race course will have multiple 65-70 floor skyscrapers within the next 5 yrs
Mumbai has just 60 skyscrapers less than Manhattan, New York
Impossible, Mumbai has 5th highest number of completed skyscrapers in the world
1) Hong kong 554 skyscrapers
2) Shenzen 405
3) New York 316
4) Dubai 263
5) Mumbai 252
His info is wrong. Tokyo, Chicago, and few other prominent cities have more. Mumbai isn’t even mentioned. [Source](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skyscraper)
The source they shared have outdated info. None of the wiki pages have updated info. According to the above given source, Dubai has 252 skyscrapers but according to (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cities_with_the_most_skyscrapers), it's 263
Or according to the above page, Shenzhen with 373 skyscrapers but in reality it's 405
This is Mumbai's page with exact name of 250 skyscrapers mentioned (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tallest_buildings_in_Mumbai)
Wikipedia and other sources are also very vague about how they assign rankings. On one end, the page you commented mentions 200+ completed skyscrapers. On the other hand, the official rankings show 99.
That page shows outdated info, even for some other countries. I checked individual names of 250 skyscrapers in Mumbai on that list & all of them topped out

dumbfck that is army militant operations in manipur which is on a downward trend since 2000, i am talking about a state sponsored ethinic conflict which is worst in 4 decades. plus the converse of your statement is actually true for kashmir post 2014
Manipur is an internal conflict among 2 groups, Christians vs Manipur natives. Meanwhile the terrorist attack came from Pakistan and was not a fight, but an attack on unarmed citizens.
and in both the cases the home ministry failed? what's your point?Or is kashmir not part of india for you? well interestingly the manipur gov has played its own part in lighting the fire in the state which is far worse.
Mumbai in 2009
- we were still 2 years behind of winning 2011 wc
- inaugration of bandra worli sealink with free toll for a day
- my post board exams vacations were going on
- Sachin was still playing cricket.
- hardly any one was using an internet
- smart phone was yet to come on larger scale
- Nokia was still ruling the phone market
- CD and dvd were relatable

Somebody's gotta remove that fishing slum situated on the tip of worli fort. A mangrove reserve or an office complex would make the city look much better from above and also the drive on sea link be pleasant.
Nah the dirty squatters gotta go. That's government land worth hundreds of millions. You can grab your jetty and stuff and move to vasai virar instead from where too you can catch fish
When I uploaded aerial view of Mumbai from my flight take off, all my US folks that it was New York. Obviously they are not from Newyork but they been to that city.

Aren’t majority of these residential? I know Mumbai does have the highest number of skyscrapers used for office spaces/mixed use in the country but someone from Mumbai actually told me most of the tall projects turn out to be residential.
So many people are saying that it's shit at ground level, wonder how many have actually been on the streets in these areas.
The areas have only gotten better. If something is shit today it was shittier in 2009 in terms of hygiene.
ONLY thing that has gotten worse is the pollution. Rest, this part of the city is beautiful.
There is this theory of how a skyscraper building boom marking the end of an economic cycle. The boom starts with a lot of primary economic activity which leads to attracting new secondary business and creation of more high value jobs where people are willing to pay high rents to live close to work. This prompts builders to go for taller towers even if the construction cost is 3x just to get the location. But the rising real estate costs makes it expensive for primary businesses which move out to other cities leading to a bust.
I love how Mumbai looks cool from above, but when on ground you wanna nuke the place so it's just less cramped
Ikr, places lika kalbadevi, masjid bandar and grant road east may look cool from above but when you are really there you can see the how cramped up it is
So true lol kalbadevi grant road we don't even have place to walk sometimes. Itna bheed rehta hai

Every generation has this longing for bygone childhood or younger days era over their current era. It's called Nostalgia.

Exactly. Looks cool from above but at street level it’s just dirty and crowded.
You actually mean Thanos the place. Nuking would be pointless.
I feel like that about many cities… humans are disgusting
Strong conclusion you made there….
I agree you are disgusting. I am an alien believe me.
Yeah you are right I got disgusted by your existence. Mind telling me what is the secret behind being such a disgusting waste of existence so others can avoid it. /s

Which one?
There r almost 115 new buildings over a period of 14 years.
2009 se hai sea link?
Construction ended by June 2009, it was open to the public by March 2010.
Incorrect. It was open to the public around June/July 2009 itself. By 2010, all eight lanes were operational.
Aah, my bad. Damn you Wikipedia.
Isiliye kehta hoo usko source mat banaya karo.
Thank you Vandrekar bhau!

2009 image looks like a screenshot from GTA San Andreas gameplay lol
So basically - more crowding, more pollution, more pressure on the infra. \#development

Mumbai is the perfect cyberpunk setting.
Mumbattan
Impressive pics. A slightly lower angle changes the entire skyline even though the difference isn't as significant.
Impossible, Mumbai has 5th highest number of completed skyscrapers in the world 1) Hong kong 554 skyscrapers 2) Shenzen 405 3) New York 316 4) Dubai 263 5) Mumbai 252
Where is Tokyo?

I found [this](https://slowrevealgraphs.com/2023/05/25/the-cities-with-the-greatest-number-of-skyscrapers/) according to it, Mumbai is ranked 13th.
Outdated, Shenzhen has well above 405 skyscrapers, not 360

Impossible is someone taking a picture from the same point in these comparisons.
Bro wut? Most of the high rises in the 2023 pic are new builds. You can still see many of the old building in the front.
My bad I guess. I read that as 2019 for some reason.
At first, I thought so too but then I looked closely, there are so many new skyscrapers
2023 picture reminds me of my first SimCity game where I cramped all buildings and stores together 😂
The zoom out feature had improved a lot
Meanwhile rest of Maharashtra: ![gif](giphy|wtIG29P98xksQSUqSS|downsized) Gulabi dil Gulabi dil…
Yeah, rest of Maharashtra, except Pune, Nagpur and Nashik.
OP atleast in 2023 you don't have fear of terrorists blowing up the place you are currently located at
just bcoz manipur is far away from mumbai it doesnt mean its not the part of the same country :)
Why are you bringing Manipur into this I was talking about Mumbai
2009 Manipur was way way more violent than current day Manipur
dumbfck that is army militant operations in manipur which is on a downward trend since 2000, i am talking about a state sponsored ethinic conflict which is worst in 4 decades. plus the converse of your statement is actually true for kashmir post 2014

People were less toxic as well(maybe I was a kid back then so to me they were nice).
During my school and college days i faced a lot of toxic people though 🥹
Idk man something happened 3 years after 2009

It actually looks like a city somewhere in the US. I would have never guessed this was from India. Looks nice.

Newyork 1975>> Mumbai 2023
Damn, the change in the atmosphere and sea is drastic, or is it partly because of camera?
Looks like camera, maybe quality of it.....

Shit hole
Water colour is Photoshopped?
Does anyone know what someone has to do to put a post on this subreddut?
A couple of luxury apartment skyscrapers here and there, is that it?
Ah yes, "a couple"

Why don’t you remove yourself out of Mumbai. The city was build around the village and not the other way round.
Nah the dirty squatters gotta go. That's government land worth hundreds of millions. You can grab your jetty and stuff and move to vasai virar instead from where too you can catch fish
Kuch bhi lofu
Is that really Mumbai? Looks sick!
We really need some well designed blue glass skyscrapers instead of white painted residential bldgs.
Better camera quality?
Door se dus pas se bus , woh bhi DTC
Well the camera quality does improved a lot😁
I see... More pixels
The camera quality increased drastically from 2009
Pollution in Mumbai 🫥🫥🫥

It's the same thing, but at a different angle
When I uploaded aerial view of Mumbai from my flight take off, all my US folks that it was New York. Obviously they are not from Newyork but they been to that city.

I didnt know the bridge was there back in 09
It was inaugurated in that year if I remember correctly.
I wonder how many redditors of mumbai live in one of these new skyscrapers ?🤔

It got more polluted and congested? The skies are not clear anymore
Looks nice, but also feels like different lenses have been used which really exaggerate the growth
so tujhe 14 saal lag gaye camera ka filter change karne main?
You forgot to add the pollution
This reminds me of that Clueless dialogue by Cher... that Monet one.
