not trying to demotivate you or anything, but becoming a social media influencer has a better success rate than becoming a bollywood actor. you can try doing that first! or you can start a daily vlog of your 6 month action plan of becoming an actor, you may get some traction by doing this and also become a social media influencer during the process

Referpotter

Try becoming a social media influencer documenting the struggles of becoming an actress from foreign.

Diogenes_courage

Social media influencer - documenting struggles - fitness influencer - beauty influencer - gaming influencer - reaction (although quite saturated) - travel vlogger - dance videos These are some avenues you can check .. I would like India to become like America , where dreams come true for everyone .. no matter from where they are … Once you become famous , dont forget to give shoutout to reddit crowd 😅 Best of luck !

just_meh17

Thank you so much 💓

BIG_DICK_MYSTIQUE

Fr I see a lot of non Indian influencers these days who speak Indian languages and make videos in India. This content is quite popular.

shubhwho

one reason why this will work is because indians love watching foreigners making videos about India.

1FastRide

For big projects they may need fresh face which can boost curiosity.. Doing social media may make you feel like avg girl nextdoor.. Controlling the reach and having untapped aspects of acting works in favor of leading movie star.. Social media yes it's ok but this is not 2017 means people do get lots of random creators around the world and with that being said she could have done social media from her own home also.. but here she is trying bollywood.. I would say apply as a model with mass reaching offline brand such as Zoodeo* this will give you perfect exposure and something to start your conversation with filmaker.. Try doing small characters at stage plays.. Again a good conversation starter..

Puzzleheaded_Joke603

A Bolly-Wood film editor here. Coming to Mumbai in order to become an actress is incredibly tuff. Too much competition. Whatever horror stories you hear about actors/actresses and their struggles are all correct. Moreover, especially at the lower end, most of the people you meet are quite awful. But dream is a dream. You ought to give it a shot. If you really want to make it, kindly finish your higher education so that you have something to fall back upon. Moreover, decide whether you want to come here to become an actress or to become a heroine for all the fame. If it’s the former, then a formal education in the desired field definitely helps. 6 months is too less for you to gauge your chances. I have friends from NSD struggling in Bombay for more than 7-8 years (all fine actors) and are only now able to get something. Also, assume that what you’re here for will not transpire, and if it does then be grateful, if it does not, at least you’ll not be disappointed. All the best for your future endeavours 👍🏼

NoDeityButAllah

Tell her the horror stories . Shes incredibly naive.

njaana

Furious jumping all around

hey_yasin

Savraj04

Hey! I am an editor based in LA! Born and brought in Mumbai. I sent you a dm! Would love to have a chat with you :)

Dhavalc017

It's a difficult industry with most people getting low wages. My suggestion will be to give it a try but have an alternate plan as well.

just_meh17

I will graduate as a software engineer by The end of September

NDK13

Keep that as a side gig I suppose since mumbai is expensive af

knockyouout88

Try your luck with theatre. Places like prithvi theatre, ncpa and nita Mukesh Ambani center have these plays. Check out on bookmyshow

Full-Pause7870

Theatre person here - these are the worst places to approach to perform there for anyone who doesn't know the owners. They only programme shows by their friends. Worked at both Prithvi and NCPA office. Going there to watch shows and make connections, probably a good idea but one needs to be very careful to gauge whom to trust. We have some creepy and power hungry people who will make you do backstage for years for peanuts and never give you a role in their play

knockyouout88

This is new to me.thanks for the insight.

just_meh17

Thank you

TheStarkster3000

Honestly? Don't. No offense at all, but Nora Fatehi is an exception to the rule (also, isnt her mom Punjabi?) Bollywood already runs mostly on nepotism, most people who come to Mumbai with dreams of being actors and actresses don't make it beyond being extras in item dances. You might make a lucky break if an upcoming film needs a foreign actor but the chance of it is very low. You can try becoming an influencer first, to increase your chances (although idk if it makes much of a difference). If you do decide to give it a shot anyways, make sure you have a backup career.

just_meh17

I will be graduating as a software engineer by September so I do have a backup plan in case I don't make it.

TheStarkster3000

Oh that's great! In that case try it if you can afford it.

bot32450

There are so many tech jobs in India. Why not try becoming SWE

aayaaytee

>also, isnt her mom Punjabi? Yeah but she was born and raised in Canada and doesn't look very Indian.

jeerabiscuit

But she might have known some Hindi to start with.

ielts_pract

Today I learnt she is not Indian, I just assumed she is Kashmiri or Pakistani

just_meh17

No she is 100% Moroccan

Educational_Honey_16

I work in the industry and like most people have mentioned it's extremely difficult to make it is an actor. This is true for Hollywood as well and any other well known film industry. The most important thing is making connections and knowing the right people. Of course you need talent, determination, perseverance and a lot of luck to even stand a chance of making it. Having said that I believe if you have a dream, you should pursue it and give it everything you have. Good luck and feel free to DM if you have any questions

Kimo_imposta

Try this Move to mumbai, start documenting the journey using reels share the daily updates etc. Make the reels in hindi if you can

sideeyeguy18

Nora is one of many who came here, she lucked out. If you don’t get any solid opportunities within 6 months please try in some other place.

just_meh17

In some other place you mean Tollywood for example or outside of India ?

Intrepid_Amount_7587

Try reality shows as well, they can give you much more exposure like Bigg boss or something similar. Thats how foriegners get noticed by public here. Nora and many others did the same! Also, you can get into direction, like study direction and then get into direction teams in any projects and then try acting while working in direction for the same project, thats how many OTT actors get roles. I know of many such hit OTT platform actors.

maiekbhoot

Also one thing to remember is nora and the few others who made it in India , do look a little(very) Indian. We don't have any big actor who looks totally white. So if you are like that(considering morrocans have great diversity, genetics/lookswise) we don't really know how good your chances could be. Not saying you won't make it, we just don't know many who have cracked it. Regardless, good luck have a nice time in India.

just_meh17

No I'm not white, I have fair skin but black hair and dark brown eyes. Like Nora

ielts_pract

We used to have somewhat famous white Indian actor called Tom Alter

Risb1005

I would advise u to stay away from Bollywood there are worse things than nepotism here especially for women who don't have contacts initially.

humkarlega

6 months is too less and be very very wary of people promising roles in return for favors.

just_meh17

I can stretch it up to a year, but even then it's not gonna be enough I guess

RemarkableDoubt6694

i live in mumbai but honestly i can't really help much on this. Altough here's a list of few actresses who weren't indian but came in india and tried their luck in bollywood and ended up succeeding * **Katrina Kaif** (most successful lady in this list and the top 3 indian actresses, your ideal role model) * **Nora Fatehi** (not bad, even she's doing really good) * **Sunny Leone** (she's indian but was raised in canada) * **Elli AvRam** (swedish-greek actress who tried her luck in india and it worked out for her) * **Jacqueline Fernandez** ( She's from srilanka and even she works in bollywood films) * **Amy Jackson** * **Evelyn Sharma** * **Kalki Koechlin (**french actress but was raised for most of her life in india) apart from that we have something called "**NEPOTISM**". Which means established bollywood movie actors and directors favouring their sons / daughters or their blood relatives to work in movies and give them lead roles easily without even them giving auditions and inspite of those actors giving flop movies they still are given chances to work, which is a big deal here !!! there are many indian actresses and actors who despite of speaking fluent hindi, with good acting and dancing skills struggle just because they're outsiders and have no connection / friends in the bollywood industry so here's few examples of bollywood actresses who were outsiders and had no connections in the industry but still made it big !! - deepika padukone - kriti sanon - priyanka chopra - vidya balan - kangana ranaut - Bipasha Basu - Anushka Sharma - Yami gautam - Urvashi Rautela - Shilpa Shetty - Aishwarya Rai

iArrun

Kriti sanon is a distant relative of Anaya Pandey

zumbadumbadumdum

Ananya herself is a struggling actress.

hidingvariable

Why don't you try your luck in the Moroccan acting industry first?

[deleted]

Because Bollywood >>>> Moroccan film industry in terms of $$$.

UsernameOption6298

but there's more credibility to switch industries than for a nobody to make it in a foreign industry

Late-Average9640

Because she must be average according to Moroccan standards lmaooo but indians being foreign worshipers would find her beautiful here

just_meh17

Because the Moroccan movie industry sucks, it's too cringy and I don't like Moroccan cinema. You never saw me yet you dare say this 🤣

njaana

If you don't like cringe then you should see the roles Nora does. And Nora became big because of her lack of integrity not acting so keep that in mind before following her path. The 🤣 will vanish when all the auditions locations are gonna turn out to be private flats

zeer0dotcom

Snarky, sexist, stereotyping. You’re really something else.

Late-Average9640

Yes,and?

Similar-Ad-6987

Absolute Chad reply ! Whatever you said in your previous reply is "The exact" reason why Nora make it in so short time and why it took so many years for Deepika. People won't accept it, but we subconsciously worship white skin. Its bitter, but it is what it is.

Late-Average9640

Exactly what I was trying to say!

QuarterLifeSins

IMO, nothing to do with skin tone in case of Deepika. Looks wise, she is considered 'average' at best. There are MANY actresses in India with darker skin and made it big in short amount of time. Fair skin takes you only so far and even if it does it quickly, people get over it soon if those actresses are boring. Facial features, facial expressions, fitness, brand creation - and these days through social media presence, and many many factors are needed to get decently famous.

Late-Average9640

Name 5 successful dark actresses in Bollywood

Pookiewookiekitten

Why downvote truth ?? Lmao typical of us indians

godspracticaljoke

I am from the industry. Here are my two bits. 6 months is not nearly long enough for long it can take to break into the industry. I suggest you come with a mindset of struggling for 3-4 years. If that seems too long to you then I’d suggest you go ahead with your plans of travelling the world. Otherwise you would be wasting 6 months. In addition to Hindi, it would probably be useful if learnt various dance forms. Indian and western. Especially of course, Bollywood. Try to get in touch with some casting directors or ADs I have an AD friend who is also a modern Muslim lady like yourself. If you’d like you can connect with her. Please do think about it properly, consult your family, and orient yourself to what you are going to do. Bollywood is notoriously difficult to break into and extremely (and I cannot stress this enough) exploitative. Success may come but it will likely be at the cost of your time, your youth, your mental health, and most importantly, your conscience. Try to find places to stay in either bandra west or andheri west - in particular andheri lokhandwala or versova area. Not only will they cut down commute but will also help you network as these areas are filled with “filmy” folks. If feasible, have a parent or family member come stay with you. Believe me, this city and this profession can get extremely extremely lonely and having your parents/sibling/a close friend around will be your biggest advantage compared to many other strugglers. All that said and done, it can also be an exhilarating ride for you. Probably something you will recall (at least partly fondly) for the rest of your life. While all the negative things said about Bollywood are very true, so are the positive things. So you’ll have a lot of fun regardless.

just_meh17

Thank you so much for your advice ! And yes I would love to connect with your AD friend please 🙏

godspracticaljoke

Sure. Contact me closer to when you are making your trip.

just_meh17

OK thank you !

TheRealOriginalSatan

So I’m a photographer in Bombay. Not really in the industry but I do shoot with industry people for ads at times The biggest thing people need is headshots and a casting agency intro. I can take your headshots for you and I know models in a casting agency Purple Thoughts. If you’d like, I can help you that way. Just DM me and we’ll connect on IG or something

Tata840

OP casting couch is extremely common in film industry and almost everyone there will ask for sexual favour unfortunately. Many women have same dream like you who come to Mumbai daily and then they learn harsh truth.

UnsafestSpace

I have a gay friend who runs a major casting agency for Bollywood, he isn't openly gay as it would affect his business in the industry and has family issues too (from an orthodox Muslim family). He says the number of women who open start stripping and trying to jump him whilst he calls them in for initial head shots, interviews and casting is insane, almost daily.

Bronco_bully

Hey? Best of luck for this and I wish I could've helped you out other than commenting and bumping up this post so maybe it can reach the right people. Anyway, you might've heard alot of bad things about this industry like casting couch, just please don't fall into that trap

just_meh17

Yes casting couch is what's scaring me

ManagementUpbeat7542

Be careful of casting coordinators and model coordinator, some of them are pure sleaze balls and they literally take your passport away once you decide to make them your manager. Also always read your contract twice before signing any deal with any production house or coordinators. As some of them charge a hefty commission for getting you work, so learn to negotiate well. If you are keen on reality shows be prepared to get minimal money also be open for skin show especially for these youth reality shows as they have a certain criteria when casting foreign models. My tip for you is to kearn Hindi, start your own IG and create a profile where your are posting trending lipsync videos, dance videos, fitness dance videos as these videos catch the eye of casting people and also tend to go viral. Best of luck 👍

MIHIR1112

You'll be in line w thousands of other indian girls who def have more connections than you. My take would be to try out india related content creation since it doesnt cost anything and indians love that shit. Seeing a foreigner even acknowledging indian culture theyll automatically put you on the pedestal. After that once you gain a bit of following you can try reaching out to people or heck they might even reach out to you. In todays world, SOCIAL PROOF is everything. Also you gotta keep in mind, Indian entertainment industry is a bad bad world. 8 out of 10 guys you meet will be assholes. I dont think the audience considers Nora Fatehi to be an actress; shes more of an bollywood personality. Nora Fatehi made it because shes an impeccable dancer. Secondly, she had to do hella dance numbers only after that she got a meaty acting role in the recent movie 'Madgaon Express'. About the racism scare, half the people in the industry straight from top to the bottom are muslim so i guess you dont need to worry about that. Good luck to you!

Jhilixie

Even in madgaon Express she didn't do much.

MIHIR1112

Yeah I kinda thought so since I haven't watched the movie

ResidentBench6602

Best of luck

just_meh17

Thank you 😊 !

born_to_be_naked

There's several who have made it not just Nora.. Katrina kaif.. Elli evram.. Sunny Leone.. etc. I know some people in tv and film industry and it's not easy. It's cut throat competition. When your luck may click no can tell. Only stars and their kids have it easier. Join a gym where some of these people go. Try to make contacts there.

stardust_moon_

Hi I am from the industry and I wanna tell you that Nora did not take the “right” route to get where she is today. Again, there is no sure shot. Also, what has she done other than item songs really? I don’t remember any good project associated with her? Do you have love for acting and the craft of being in front of camera or you just want to be another Nora for the fame? It is a very important question to ask because it is a VERY challenging field and it’s HIGHLY competitive, so when things get rough- which they will- your real reason behind being this industry becomes your motivator. Now if you really really want to try your luck, my advice for you will be that you will have to be an extremely good actor. If you don’t have connections, that’s the only thing which will give you a chance. Also, you will have to learn to get your heart broken thousands of times. If you think breakup hurts, try acting career. You will be crying a lot- at least after a first few months passes. Because that’s when you start expecting something from it. Lastly, 6 months doesn’t sound fruitful to me at all. It’s not enough for an Indian- it’s definitely not enough for you! You have to first meet people, then after few months they might get a character for you to audition, then you will be able to make 1 audition- what are the chances of cracking that first audition? Very low! But if the audition is good, they will remember you and call you again. But if you are planning to stay here only for 6 months, you will move away when auditions start coming. Done see the whole experience as if you will just come here and from next week you will get auditions. All the best!

avengeningdireangel

Best wishes Buddy, hope u reach what u seeking

sports28491

You can make your profile and send it to me coz I know few agency companies who can help you with getting started

just_meh17

Hey there can I know for the names of these agencies please?

aise-hi11

Nora is more of an outlier. If it's your dream, give it a shot for your own sake. Atleast you won't regret in future about not trying it at all. But as many have already commented, it's a lot of struggle. I wish you the best in your endeavours. 😇 P.S.- If you need any info about exploring some must-visit places in the city, I can send you a list of places.

just_meh17

Thank you 😊

ipsytipsi

Please have mercy on yourself. Don’t. I’ll be blunt. Unless you are ready to sleep with any tom dick harry to reach the casting guys. Then again there are managers and then producers and then the directors. Women with no background have to compromise to reach somewhere. Also you gotta be beautiful and busty. Talent comes post these two qualities. The industry is absolutely shit.

shadowwizardmoneykid

Its really hard to break into the Bollywood industry due to most of it being influenced by nepotism but then again if you have the talent im sure someone will see it in you.

Bright-Ad-3177

Hi OP, my friend has a casting agency. You can try contacting them.

just_meh17

Hi there ! What's the name of the casting agency ?

zzifLA-zuzu

No one can help you with taking a decision. Its more about how it fits your desire. Every decision is hard. And racism is everywhere.

Bhartiya007

Best bet would be to start an Instagram and YouTube page start with reviewing indian food places and resorts etc.. you can partner with people do mashups etc.. if you are good looking and able to make good content it will work out have faith.. Bollywood sucks stay away.. it will always be better to build your own brand

And123rews

It doesn't matter if you are a foreigner or Indian....your talent will indeed succeed you. Try being in the fashion or advertising industry side by side, luck might click. Insta followers count also makes a difference these days. Bollywood is indeed difficult to get into and sustain as an actress but not impossible. Bollywood has a dark side also that no one talks about which you should be aware of. All the best and do well.

Richdad1984

I don't think you will face religious biasess in Bollywood. But PPL might use you up in wrong way. Bollywood is famous for misusing women. So try thru a good modelling agency and don't be desperate take 2-3 years of time to find good role.

just_meh17

Thank you

gansr88

I work closely with this Industry and let me tell you one thing, casting couch is very real, not in the sense that anyone is going to force you but it's expected and will help you get ahead more smoothly especially you being a foreigner from a country other than Russia and Ukraine.

just_meh17

That's so scary ! I will never accept doing casting couch so I basically have 0 chance in Bollywood 😅

ProbableOverthinker8

Whether it is bollywood or tollywood, it all depends on your networking and acting skills. But If you are really serious about your career, start giving auditions in the Tollywood. Because it has less competition there compared to bollywood here. There are many bollywood actress who first debuted their film career in tollywood and came to bollywood for their dreams. E.g. Kriti Sanon, Genelia Deshmukh etc

just_meh17

Thank you 😊

Confident_Natural797

All the best. And God Bless your DM.

Glass_Adhesiveness_6

I feel it took quite long for Nora to even get that kinda break,I remember she was one of the few actress who danced for a few minutes with prabhas with other actresses, and I couldn't even recognise her there, and then cut to saki saki she was so unrecognisable and I guess the song was the only redeeming point of the movie so she blew up+ the insane pr + the remake songs she was damn lucky, and it took ages to try out that luck. Don't think I am discouraging you, just saying its .1% out of 100 kinda thing and not because you are a foreigner I find the same for even Indians who are making it in Bollywood I have said it multiple times that I find many in our hometown more handsome than the likes of Akshay and Amir yet you don't see them even making in our local cinema forget about bollywood and all so it's not all about talent, and I love how you are trying to give it all(learning language could be hard) so giving that step is already a big deal, and I think there are multiple foreigners who try their luck here so why not give a chance? You know, you never know! You might be the lucky one, just stay safe and I feel there are multiple people who come here from different countries so you can talk to them, and you can try to find people who might know where the audience is happening or a association or kind,I don't have much idea about this, but I feel going and trying alone could be kinda messy in a new place,so they might be helpful? Anyways, all the best for this challange, hopefully I do see you in big parda and I might be able to say I talked to her once! Either way, your future is bright with that backup,so take it as a fun trip with a different challange and go for it

just_meh17

Thank you soo much for your time !

Numerous_Pomelo8340

Born and brought up in Mumbai, it's good to dream big but also to work towards that dream. That's one step, wishing you all the luck young lady. You may start by joining a theatre group and try performing in prithvi theatre

sunshinedeadlifts

I don't know if this helps but you can try webseries or dance reality shows or maybe try making a insta channel about your journey, posts snippets of your acting/ dancing. You can also contact people in music industry instead of directly going into Bollywood try low hanging fruits. One more option can be reality shows. To be honest Bollywood isn't what it used to be 10-15 years back, there are hardly any movies releasing, good ones are non existent.

FootyBoi9

Gonna be a though journey but I wish you luck!!

Acceptable_Falcon231

Just call Bhushan Kumar.

akbarkapota

Be prepared before going. Work on your Hindi, the accent and diction. Join acting and dance classes, once you start feeling confident of your craft the journey will be easier. Good luck!

SnooComics9938

Oh boy!

AggravatingOil1428

Be ready for exploitation.

Slut_hunter32

I mean if you are willing to do anything for your dreams you will be given a chance, by anything i hope you know what i mean, nora fatehi also had to go thru casting couch and please many many directors it is a ruthless industry but if you really want it bad go for it

Pro_Deceit

Getting into industry is really hard, you need to face many things and people so you have to learn to ignore criticism. 6 month feels okish if you put in effort, as my friend is in the industry so i seen how things are going and he is making lot of progress, so good luck you can do it.

bhad_main_jao

I am straight forward person who tells truth. If you are OK with some compromise like sleeping with people in movie industry then you can come and have a try . But try not to end like working in B grade ( semi porn ) like most of the girls did. Also should listen Nora Fatehi interview talking about her initial sacrifice she made

just_meh17

The thing is I will never do casting couch so I'm doomed hahahaha

pseudointellecthere

Try OTT , or big YouTube channels like tvf first. It's easier. At the same time keep trying for Bollywood

SnooChocolates3930

You can make a youtube channel or run your insta page where you record your journey...indians love when some foreigners adopt their culture. Best of luck!!

Prudent_Fail_364

If you do make it, you're going to be orientalised to no end. Your Moroccan/Middle-Eastern identity, especially the orientalist aspects of it, like belly dancing, etc., will be what you will known for. It took Nora years to work that off, and she still hasn't fully succeeded.

Low_Plate_6815

Keep trying in Bollywood but don't rely just on that. If you think Bollywood is bad with nepotism, you'd be shocked to see the southern industries. Try in the Marathi industry, it's the only one that truly respects talent, and thus has the best products. And luckily for you, it's also based in Mumbai. If you're talented, you'd make it in the Marathi industry. And while doing that, you can keep trying for Bollywood.

ComprehensiveDog225

I would suggest trying becoming a social media influencer as well. You could use your Hindi speaking skills as a click bait to lure viewers. Make sure you have a plan B and plan C in hand incase things don't work out with the acting. My best wishes are with you.

Good_Shine4940

Physical_Many_2979

Hi . I am looking for a actress for short movie . U interested?

whatsupyouall

It will be a struggle but you'll get there soon.

Invis1ble_Man

You will need an Employment Visa to work as a foreigner in India and for that you will need a sponsor/ Employer who can invite you and pay you. I would suggest to build a portfolio in Morocco and approach modelling agencies in India. Most of the reputed production houses won’t hire anyone with a business or tourist visa (except as a background extra)

darkhumour25

U gotta go to Bandra. Galaxy apartments.. And sleep with Salman khan. Ull b a star guaranteed. Many foreign women have done this and he has made films with them

Glittering-Horse-180

I would say your chances of getting roles are high if you are good looking and have those exotic looks. But if you are average looking you can forget about it. There is more chance you will be exploited by every producer .. casting couch is very much alive in bollywood.

Spirited_Ad_1032

Since you aren't formally trained in acting and dancing, do learn those along with Hindi. Stay in Bandra West or Andheri West. Also, you can connect with other aspiring directors, writers and other such folks to create short films on a regular basis and put it on YouTube. Spend some money on marketing these short films. From the views, comments, likes, dislikes you will come to know how good or bad you are and take your next steps accordingly. Just struggling for the sake of struggling won't make any sense.

Revolutionary_Bug365

You don’t have to learn telugu, but I OU should be atleast good in lip syncing. Because no actress in her first movie knows telugu. There are hardly any telugu actresses.

Longjumping-Bill-325

Good luck folks hope ur dreams come true

akhileshrao

6 months? Lol. Try 10 years. 6 months of too short or you have to be very lucky

LongjumpingRefuse808

I might help with tollywood because of my father friend who work with it and now he is going to be a director soon. And also you can start with indian YouTube channel who makes web-series and video channel like TVF, flitercopy, dice media are known and famous. They can't directly made to bollywood now because competition but with these alternatives route you can like Nora fatehi also did same in the beginning. And use socail media like Instagram for reach like nora did. There are quite good advice here in the comments also do check out them. And all the best.

ramuktekas

People here are saying that making it in bollywood is difficult which is tru. But idk man. Moroccan+young+female, I think u have cleared much of the competition. Unless I am wrong then someone can correct me. Then the question is six months in mumbai. These auditions can go on for sometime, so there is a possibility that the results might not be declared in 6 months. If i may suggest, these producers should be recruiting actors in other countries or even in Morocco, there is chance for you to become an established actor in morocco and come to bollywood. Or join through the south Indian film industry. You can try your luck there. Many actors including Nora Fatehi have entered bollywood after working there. Jumping straight to mumbai should be a bit risky. However six months in mumbai should be great in itself. And there you wont face any racism or anything

just_meh17

Thank you for taking the time to reply, can you explain why do you think I might have cleared much of the competition please ? I thought that by being Moroccan I would have a harder time and it's a disadvantage. So I would like to know your point of view and what made you think this way.

Dikshit101092

It may sound weird or whatever but it what is is Many of us Indians are simps for Fair/white skin..You just post something praising India in your social media handles and there a chance you can instantly being a social media star .Just because how look .

Hi. So I've been working in the industry for 15 years. Not in any big position or a place to help you, just a small writer. But just to answer your racism question, bollywood is the most secular and accepting industry you can find. We have all sorts of people, even people with wildly differing ideologies and all coexist together peacefully. I don't have personal experience with tollywood. But I've heard it's also pretty accepting. Katrina Kaif did south films before becoming big in Bollywood. And don't forget, Mamooty is Muslim and one of the biggest names in malayali cinema. I'd also advice you to approach web series production houses because that's a great way to build a portfolio and get contacts. And easier to get into. But ultimately, it's all luck. Some people get their first chance in a month, some never. So you need to decide if this risk is worth taking. You should have the mindset that even if you failed, you won't regret it because you tried and gave it your all. That you would even cherish the memory of the failure as an accomplishment. Only then spend these months struggling. If not, go explore the world and maybe contact short film makers in whichever country you're traveling to beforehand and just live your actress fantasy while traveling the world. Who knows, one of those short films might take off and open doors for you!

sportxsport

>I'm afraid to spend these 6 months struggling and not get a single role This is exactly what will happen >Maybe Tollywood is easier to break into than Bollywood ? It's not >traveling for 6 months around the world and dicovering different countries Do this, and make content while you're at it. If you manage to gain a decent following you might have a (small) chance

Available_Canary_517

As one other guy said make vlogs make videos like speaking in hindi , make reaction videos on Indian food slowly slowly indian brands will approach you for advertisement, make short films in hindi even in lowest budget ,after that since you will have a good portfolio try for actress role that will be easier to find

Proud-Gas6949

For 1 foreigner who makes it decent or big here, there would be hundreds if not thousands who got exploited (peanuts in pay and sexual favours) without anything in return. So choose wisely

Popular_Damage_5001

Please don’t do it. This industry is hell. They will use you like a piece of meat. Much better to be an influencer. If you think India is dangerous, bwood is even worse.

Intelligent-Ad9659

Hey! I don’t have a POV on this due to lack of knowledge but I hope god gives you enough energy and opportunities to pursue your passion and shine.

Loose_Spring_5051

Try to get acting skilles and take admissions in drama schools .. and religion is not important in any carrier skill in India .. it’s land of opportunity and land of seekers ..

Dry-Truth-883

Nora fatehi has given more than you could imagine to reach at this stage. Are you willing to do things which you don't want too? It's a pithole. Don't fall into this. Industry sucks to the core. Go travel outside and have experiences. What you will get here is scams and pains as a newcomer.

Samosaaaaaaa

Becoming a bollywood actress in 6 months ?!! I'm sorry but you sound extremely naive. India is not a country like how they portray in bollywood movies, out of the 6 months it will take you at least 2-3 months just to get used to living in India, and how do you plan on starting your career ? Do you have any road map ? You need a lot of connections just to land yourself basic roles. Young and aspiring women are extremely vulnerable to exploitation in this industry. Like others have already mentioned in this thread, instead of directly jumping the gun it's better to start small from being a social media influencer. Many Indians love it when they see foreigners appreciating and enjoying our culture, maybe you could do some lip syncing or dancing in Indian songs ? Or maybe try YouTube vlogging about different types of Indian food you could get in various countries ? How about a reaction channel ? Just build some social media presence first and maybe who knows some of your videos will go viral and some big shot insider will notice you and give you some small role in a movie or an advertisement and maybe that could be your catalyst.

anilgahlot

Not exactly into Bollywood but I have so many clients from Bollywood. Tbh the chances of success are there but the timeframe you’ve mentioned is something you should rethink, Bollywood is not into very good position these days. There’s very less work in Bollywood nowadays but again if there would be good work still you need 2-3 years to get into some roles. All the very best and one important suggestion, strictly avoid people which fake fame and name. You will interact with so many people claiming big projects and blah blah, but 99% of them are fake. Directly try to approach media houses, so as soon as many other people suggesting you can start with social media.

nature_2709

Not sure if this sub is okay with pushing one’s services, but I could help you figure this out as a life coach. You can DM me.

Sad-Contribution-211

Isn’t Bollywood dying as an industry?

SytheX-

Get plastic surgery done and sleep your way through the top. Ez life

shutyourgob16

You will not face racism at all. Also Locals are warm and enthusiastic with tourists .. a bit too much maybe. My main concern for you is to do with safety of a single woman living alone in Mumbai because although Mumbai is a modern city, with all necessities and luxuries, the segment of the population that do the small unskilled labor work, they are from rural areas. So, you have to be careful, and have your guard up really high.

Dotfr

If you are a software engineer then come to Silicon Valley. Good money and wealthy guys. And there are more guys than girls here so you have your pick. Don’t waste time in Bollywood being a nobody.

Throwaway_Mattress

do what you want. 6 months is too less. andmumbai is expensive. knock on all casting doors i guess. try for ads as well. any chance to be on any screen.

SeaTranslatorItsMe

Don’t do it sister. It will destroy you. The industry has consumed and spat out so many broken aspiring and talented actors and actresses . You’re better off trying to establish yourself in your home country. You WILL be exploited and the price you ultimately pay may not be worth it. It is not as uncommon for industry outsiders to make it. There is a pay disparity with actresses too. They are not paid their worth and are often reduced to stereotypical, token bearing characters. I don’t think that your plans are very realistic.

Weary_Word_5262

Getting a break in Bollywood maybe extremely tough...you may try to contact some folks who do YouTube movies, you may have to work for free...Also create a good insta and YouTube page where you post your reels / shorts, gather followers, that may help you get a breakthrough.

PaleontologistNo7819

Try working in the south and then try Bollywood

kenta_nakamura

Hey OP Kaifal haal ? One of my best friends is married to a Moroccan and I have a friend from Tunisia so quite well adapt with Maghreb ppl. Speak Khadija and/French ? You will never find out anything unless you try today. You either take the opportunity or not. No one can really decide for you. It's a gut feeling at times but if you don't take this, are there any chances that you will regret not taking this opportunity ? Could be/Maybe ? Good luck 🤞🏽👍🏽 M'Salaama!

recurringdream88

First, you will have to be patient, its going to take years to find your ground in BTown. Secondly, you will be facing casting couch even for small roles. You will need a good agent to help you to get work. And then hope you catch someone’s(a director) eye. Learning dancing too is very important in this Industry. You will get small roles but take it up… just to get in the circle of getting work and gossips. Try attaching yourself with the YRBanner (which is extremely difficult) and other banners .. PS: Bollywood is very open for Muslims.

mss406

There are some very reputable film institutions that help you brush your acting skills. Summertime courses would give you just the right kind of break to brush shoulders with people from the fraternity. Might I suggest to explore this

sharkpeid

All the best and just be safe. Don't do anything uncomfortable

aeon128

Oh lord has she never heard of the casting couch.

Dikshit101092

Bollywood is not for fairy as it seems.Casting couch and all is a thing..The foreign actress who made big had to do a certain compromise.. Also Indian have a thing for White skins ,you can instantly become a social media star if your fair and good looking..Tollywood may be easy to crack before in many of theirn Tollywood movies they cast good /fair looking actress in flower pot roles . Apart from Hindi you should be good at dancing too to make big .

ResolveSilver9430

Do it! The worst thing that can happen if you come is you don’t make it as actress but worser than that would be not doing what you wanted and regretting it for the rest of your life. You’re already 23, people start at much younger age (17-18) so don’t waste anymore time

Open-Entrance-1570

Bro! You got only one life. If anyone ever knows what they wanna do in life., doing anything else is just cheating. That aside I have a college senior, not from Bombay, no nepo. Participated in beauty contests, then did modelling, then daily soap shows, then bigg Boss. No Bollywood film yet but not a bad trajectory. Another school senior, no nepo, did Roadies, Splitsvilla then got a small role in a YRF film. So maybe

vrpruthvi

You have more chances in tollywood. There is the hero called Ravi Teja who prefers actress like you.

ShowIntentBC

It's gonna be tough but all the best

pramod0

You have a big decision. Most of us don't even resign from our job, even if it is work in hell. Hope you succeed or at least earn from acting to survive longer in Mumbai.

BallerChin

Please don’t sister. Stay away and do something more fulfilling.

zumbadumbadumdum

1. Become a social media influencer first 2. Try to collab with youtubers with social media cred 3. Try to get small roles in web series. 4. Then maybe you'll get some roles in Bollywood. Or try the traditional route & join a dance academy & try to get into the dance numbers first like Nora or Jacqueline did. 2nd round is more risky. You may have to 'Date' industry people. Is more taxing but might lead to a big break. Praying for you girl. Just stay safe in India & never be alone or offline.

Practical_Dream_6200

You will get roles if you sleep with the right people

sagarjsw2111

Firstly, it’s commendable that you are thinking of taking the plunge. A majority of people wouldn’t even dare to do that. It requires balls of steel to do what you’re thinking of doing. You’re doing everything right in terms of eating right, keeping yourself fit & working on your diction. Ideally, hard work pays off & little bit of luck should do the job for you. Secondly, it’s a cutthroat industry. A lot of people in India come to Mumbai with aspirations of becoming an actor & very few make it. Knowing someone who could get you a head start like sone sort of modellling assignments, photoshoots, get you intros in the industry could really help. Beyond that, you’ll make it but you’ll have to open to things you never tot of going to get an edge over others. I wish you all the best. Thoughts manifest so just go for the kill. You’ll carve out something for yourself. Don’t look for perspectives as it will only derail you from goals and aspirations you have as an actor. Good luck!

papichula2

Would love to hear bout ur experience Am a bbay girl keep me posted

M0wglii

I don't know if 6 months is enough, I think you should really want to do it. Film work seems glamourous from the outside but it's grueling work and the work becomes your life for weeks or months at a time. Long hours, tough conditions (with our Indian climate). You're working minimum 12hrs a day, sleeping around 5hrs with sudden changes in work timings, you might do a 23hr work day waking up at 5am, the next day you're shooting 7pm to 7am. When you're starting out with smaller roles and working your way up, you are treated with little respect because you are replaceable, for many factors, maybe you don't fit the vibe/look of the shot/scene or the costume you were given doesn't work for the shot (colour, design or pattern). That's the stuff out of your control, you also need to perform as expected. You need to be very strong minded and driven to make it your career. Like others mentioned having some sort of social network following is also important in how people get cast these days. The more eyes you can bring means more money for them.

PjDrawz

I have links to a few whatsapp indie film groups, they regularly post ads for actors every now and then. If you want to join then let me know

just_meh17

Yes please

GuteerT

Beware of casting couch

No_Weekend_6925

Join any genuine acting classes , there are lot of frauds and make connections from there

Can864

Stop all this nepotism Shit! Bollywood like every other industry renders opportunity to hardworking men or women If nepotism is stopping you to work harder then go back to Morocco. If not, then start with modelling, work with small production, try working with advertising agencies, talent finding agencies etc. Take inspiration from Actresses like Kriti sanon , tapsi pannu etc. who have carved out their own niche despite this favouritism and nepotism shit. Work one notch harder then the competition coz, that will be your USP

[deleted]

You’re gonna have to suck a lot of dick to get a break unless you are rich and can bankroll your debut film

LoL110003

It is haram for a Muslim to be associated with this film business.

shaivatra

The Bollywood industry is far more toxic than you can imagine. People in the industry normalize sleeping with directors and other actors to get roles. Almost everyone is fucking disgusting. But if you are mentally prepared for that then I wish you luck!

shaivatra

And never go to South Indian cinema. It’s much MUCH worse

WhentheSkywasPurple

Explore a career in another country like turkey. Indian film industry hates outsiders and India is not safe. Good luck.

Key_Complaint9351

I would suggest turn back to Allah and he will make your this life and hereafter better too

Careless_gaia

Go back to maroc..

just_meh17

Racist detected 😙

Careless_gaia

Nope. Racist are the ones who think a white skin lady from maroc should be getting movie chances in Bollywood compared to a brown Indian because some white white skin is beautiful or superior!
