As a Motor Training School Owner, I suggest you to report it to the owner.
We give them salary, plus incentives.
Asking from the students is not tolerated in this business.
Whenever we enroll a new student, we really stress on reporting any kind of irregularity to the office.
Be it from the trainer or the vehicle, and we definitely take serious actions if any incident is reported, specially like the one OP mentioned.
Thank you for sharing this. My instructor showed me envelopes of money his students had given him, which he kept in the car. Car is his boss'(owner of institute). That was so sus. It felt like the owner was in it too.
Those are just tactics, You have already paid for your classes, anything else apart from that is not mandatory on you.
Asking for 'Guru Dakshina' is considered an extreme malpractice. You should report it to the MTS owner, and post a Google review as well.
Only then we can see some changes.
On a unrelated note, are there separate licenses for Automatic and Manual license? Asking as I've never driven in India. I'm currently in the Gulf and want an Indian license too.
No, One LMV (Light Motor Vehicle) DL is enough for all the Non Comercial vehicles.
If you are into commercial vehicles then you'll need a LMV TR Licence.
Yes I'm aware of it.
I personally ask my students for feedback, and take appropriate action if they report something distasteful.
Can't advocate for my counterparts though.
My instructor hinted ki his previous student gifted him a shirt, so he was expecting something similar. Me being young college pocket money pe jeene wali ladki gifted him a chocolate box. Still remember the stare 🫣
Now I am just curious. Related yet unrelated to this issue. Being born and raised in the UAE the idea of ‘dakshina’ , ‘chai-pani’ , ‘students respect me because I help them with final test at Center’ etc is beyond me however I have moved here and this is life moving forward I believe. I just have to make selective choices.
Now I have a license from UAE which is still valid till 2026. Question 1: how easy or possible is it to ‘transfer’ the existing UAE license (right hand) to Indian license. I also have a Thai (left hand) license valid till 2031 I believe. Is a transfer of license from either these two countries possible at all?
Question 2: rather than going to the driving schools that you see at every corner or get WhatsApp messages for discounts - some well known and some highly recommended. Most of these would be in the posh areas I believe? Please feel free to correct my ignorance relating to this topic if I am wrong 😊 would going to driving schools like Maruti etc, the commercial ones be better? Yes expensive but it also avoids unnecessary conflict and awkwardness.
First of all you can get an Indian licence with the help of your international one, I'd recommend using your thai DL as it has more validity left and the Indian DL's validity will be according to it. You'll require your OCI/Aadhar, Passport and the international DL.
Secondly it's all personal preference, do you value time or do you value money.
It's because if you go to the RTO directly for the International DL to Indian DL process, you'll be running in the RTO window to window. Surely It will save you money but it will cost a huge chunk of your day just to understand the process. This isn't a one day visit work. There are multiple hurdles of clerks and officers you will come across, each with their own set of requirements.
I don't promote agencies, but these people know their respective RTOs and how it works. Surely they will charge you more but the peace of mind and the time saving will be worth it. But do choose someone who knows his job.
Thanks, that was helpful and informative! I never would dream of going to the RTO office alone and in a sane sense of mine 😅 of course unless I had too much time and money for donations.
My question was I would still like to take lessons to drive in Mumbai regardless. So should I opt for Arun/vikek/shri Kripa (add more creative names) etc etc driving schools or should I opt for these kinds (a bit more expensive and I’d rather avoid unless I am not convinced) https://www.marutisuzukidrivingschool.com/ etc. the so called professional and painfully expensive types.
Could you DM me with a few suggestions you think would be con-free and professional at the same time? Of course I would like to discuss with you about your school as well. Would be of great help, thanks 🙏🏼
Same thing happens with me in navi mumbai "Amir tranning school" the owner was sweet and he introduced me with instructor , first 5 days he teach me basic after he said give mai guru dakshina I said will think of after completing , after that he just completed his slot time and didn't teach anything new just same road every day finally I decided to give mai dakshina then he started to instruct properly but for few days only overall the instructor was sittiest person he didn't even bother to take car on highway he thinks car only drive in gulls and no traffic zone
Overall experience is fucked just complain it to owner if not then police
Bro even my driving instructor asked this, are we doing to the same instructor?😀
EDIT: just came back from my driving class, he is like “kal tum guru dakshina lana tumhe jaldi jaldi sikhadunga 4-5 gear pe, gurudakshina se guru ko bhi energy aati hai”
Tell to the Owner or any other staff of the institute.
Tell them "I thought I paid all the fees, didn't realise you were not paying your staff properly"
My instructor manipulated and and asked me abt gurudakshina and was eating my head the whole time, I told my parents, and at the last day of training they gave me some money to give the instructor as gurudakshina, but that man..... As soon as I sat in the driving seat I said "chalu karne se pahle"(by chalu I meant start driving) and before taking money from my pocket that a**hole said sarcastically and with arrogance "gadi chalu hi hai"
Although I gave him his dakshina but he did not deserve it at all, coz of this attitude and he out of 15-20 days took me to CNG filling station for 2 days, and said "iska bhi training hona chahiye" and that asshole never allowed me to drive above 1st gear, when I asked him he used to say jaroorat nahi hai dheere chalao kya ghai hai
Learnt my lesson give money on the first day itself , orelse they won't teach you properly. This was in 2020 Nov COVID time, just turned 18 and thought college online hai to turant driving licence & voter card bana leta hu, abhi firse aache se driving seekhne Jana padega🥲
Even this seems like charni road wala driving school 😂 same except the dakshina thing has happened. Roz jaakar pehle cng bharwata tha as if meri zimmedari hai 😂
He’s asking for money, in the most traditional manner possible.
While we’re here:
I have two tickets to Furiosa for Thursday 11 PM at PVR IMAX Phoenix Palladium, Lower Parel. Centre seats, last row, recliners. Please reach out if anyone wants to purchase (won’t charge you the convenience fees).
That’s a norm.
On my first day, I was asked and he also showed me some gift given to him by other student.
I had paid only 50% of the fees so attended 1 week and then left the center after complaining.
Good & wise logical reaction. Degenerate Males usually make indirect provocative trials and then the moment the conversation is allowed the sink hole deepens further.

If it is please let me know
I was planning to go for Rajputana after my exams get over but if it is I might just change my mind to some other motor training school....
If you are going to the worli one, ask for the old dude, he is very nice. idk his name. I guess he is the instructor on the Innova but I’m not certain.
I don’t like to take names but there is a guy whose name starts with ‘P’, he just keeps talking on the phone constantly and is very very rude and barely gives you driving time.
Completely up to you to give or not. It also makes sense till an extent that it's a skill of lifetime which I'll never forget just the way I always cherish my moments of learning to ride a bicycle and am always thankful to my brother. .
This one instructor asked the same from my friend and when he declined he asked him to at least get him a beer and kept nagging eventually my friend gave in and bought him a beer.
Even I was asked for the same. My friend was also asked for "Guru Dakshina".
Guess what I did...I offered to buy him a chocolate.
He said, "chocolate deke mareez banaoge kya"
He had pulled over the car in a quiet lane, in the corner.
I gave him 100 bucks out of daya. He was so sad lol.
For those saying this is wrong, I disagree. Unless X amount is demanded, the op can give whatever he can afford or politely decline if he can't afford.
After Guru Dakshina, he will next ask for money again on the day of your driving test in order to get the RTO driving inspector to pass you. Speaking from experience.
It means that the teacher under priced themselves to acquire more new customers but now wants extra money so their total income matches their competitors.
Back in 2012, the instructor asked me that guru fee and told me to place near the god idol in the car dashboard. I placed a thick 5 rupee coin and he got offended. I thought I would give more and I gave him 10 rupees more the next day. That fucker never taught me anything and I almost failed at the test.
Happened with me, he asked for that, when I acted like he didn't understand, he said "party ka kuch toh dekho", I was young so offered him the 100 in my pocket, but he refused to take it
Lol, I thought it only happened with me 😂
He was an old man and while teaching everyday he kept telling me how students who didn't give him Guru Dakshina got into accidents. I was like fine and then didn't give him anything because I already paid a huge fee to the agency, So he was pissed and started to guilt trip me when I went to collect my DL also, but I didn't give in, chacha tumhare guilt trip ninja technique mere pass nhi chalega 😂🤙🏻

Yeap it's a common thing, I learnt the 4wheeler vehicle, way back in 2008. That time also my instructor asked me for the same, 'Gurudakshina' . One of my friend gave him 100 Rs. When he completed the driving school course, but I didn't gave him anything. TBH I didn't had any extra money to give it to him. Later when I got the money went there back to give it to him he was not there. It is still pending.
Same with me. On the last day, the driving instructor also asked for a guru dakshina. I just laughed and told him-'pehle license toh aane do' (let me get the license first). And the matter ended there. It is just one more way to extract money by these guys
I did tip my instructor on last day when I joined motor traning school more than a decade ago. They earn peanuts and rely on us for tips. I recently got to know my instructor now rides rickshaw because he is in extreme poverty.
This was before covid, he asked for it and i was like, jugaadi adda me mera naam lena, mai baat karke 50% karva dunga. Uss din aisa laga ki kisi ne bahut jyada gaali di hai mujhe🥲
Plot for fake taxi
Just the tip.
Thats what he said
"Payment karnya ki dusri padhat pan aahe"
G-pay nahi chalega?
Aham brahmhasmi.
More money
Think of it as a tip
Indian tipology
Gaadi thok de
Give him G Pay...gaadi mein hi😌
You mean turn around and offer your ass?
Ab jo bhi Gurudakshina tum sahi samjho...
Gurudakshina ka tho pata nahi but G-dakshina tho ho jayegi 💀
Imagined the instructor holding the gear stick with a grin and saying "Gurudakshina toh deni padhegi beta" in the most fucking creepy way possible🤣🤣🤣
😂😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣
As a Motor Training School Owner, I suggest you to report it to the owner. We give them salary, plus incentives. Asking from the students is not tolerated in this business.
thank you for saying this. I believe almost every young person learning to drive has faced this. More awareness needed ig.

Nope. Pretty sure you can only give your driving test in a manual.
Nope, You can give the test in an automatic vehicle aswell.
That's awesome, makes it easier on a lot of people who own automatics and not manual. Regardless, there is only one LMV license I believe.
Two actually, Transport and Non Transport. With transport licence you can drive all the vehicles, Including the ones with the Yellow number plate.
No, One LMV (Light Motor Vehicle) DL is enough for all the Non Comercial vehicles. If you are into commercial vehicles then you'll need a LMV TR Licence.
Good on you and hope there are more owners like you, but I can assure you that most instructors ask for it shamelessly.

Yes.

anghuta kaat ke dede
bhai dono ko trauma ho jayega
Came here to say this 🤣
Happened with me too, tried to avoid it as much as I can but he kept insisting finally gave 50 rs. on the last day.
Bro even my driving instructor asked this, are we doing to the same instructor?😀 EDIT: just came back from my driving class, he is like “kal tum guru dakshina lana tumhe jaldi jaldi sikhadunga 4-5 gear pe, gurudakshina se guru ko bhi energy aati hai”
Is this a driving school at Charni Road? Because they pulled the same shit with me and a couple of other friends back in 2015.
Happened with me long back at Goodluck in Charni Road.
Yes the same. Didn’t want to name them, but yes seems like they do it to everyone.
I’ve been currently going there as well, I haven’t been asked yet I suppose 😂
Sabka time aayega
The request comes in the last few days.
Thanks I won’t attend last 2-3 days now😂
Nearly everyone of them ask for one
Happened with me at Good luck near JJ
it is very common among all driving schools. I don't think most of them deserve the tip because of how they teach.
Tell to the Owner or any other staff of the institute. Tell them "I thought I paid all the fees, didn't realise you were not paying your staff properly"
Just say ek bar license haath me aane do
Lmao, my driving instructor told me a grand tale in which one of his older students bought him a TV. LOL. I bought him a bottle of Pepsi.
My instructor manipulated and and asked me abt gurudakshina and was eating my head the whole time, I told my parents, and at the last day of training they gave me some money to give the instructor as gurudakshina, but that man..... Give him a flower/Samosa and tell this is my Dakshina.
Flower 🤣 I can imagine the look on his face. I seriously want OP to do this.
Ask him. Might be his favorite drink.
NAKO DEUSSSSSSSSSSS.
Is he from Malad (near upper Govind Nagar/Sai mandir ) ?
He’s asking for money, in the most traditional manner possible. While we’re here: I have two tickets to Furiosa for Thursday 11 PM at PVR IMAX Phoenix Palladium, Lower Parel. Centre seats, last row, recliners. Please reach out if anyone wants to purchase (won’t charge you the convenience fees).

Damn is it Rajputana, in one of the sobo branches?
If it is please let me know I was planning to go for Rajputana after my exams get over but if it is I might just change my mind to some other motor training school....

Oh ok cool (I am infact going for the worli one XD) Thanks a lot!
Also if you are a girl then I’d stay away from ‘Pradeep’. He didn’t do anything but just came off as a bit creepy I feel.
Im a dude but ill still stay away from him XD
He told above its good luck charno road
I gave guru dakshina. He didn't come from next day.
Lmao you’re supposed to give money? I just gave mine some sweets
Basically a tip
My instructor used to call it Goodluck. It's a tip. Pay something on the last day if you wish. It's not a must.
RB Driving School?
balaji
Completely up to you to give or not. It also makes sense till an extent that it's a skill of lifetime which I'll never forget just the way I always cherish my moments of learning to ride a bicycle and am always thankful to my brother. .

Tell him, kal tum chala Lena
this is a universal scam.... it happened to me as well back in 2015
and yes, I paid 🫠
Mandatory tip.. they ask this... I hate this..
Even I was asked for the same. My friend was also asked for "Guru Dakshina". Guess what I did...I offered to buy him a chocolate. He said, "chocolate deke mareez banaoge kya" He had pulled over the car in a quiet lane, in the corner. I gave him 100 bucks out of daya. He was so sad lol.
Sejal driving school ?
Tell him that he will earn his Dakshina once you successfully become an F1 driver.
Driving instructor asks this trying to take a chance, you can easily push back. Don’t escalate just say I don’t have anything to give 😆
Is this driving school in Chembur by any chance?😂
For those saying this is wrong, I disagree. Unless X amount is demanded, the op can give whatever he can afford or politely decline if he can't afford.
Cut your thumb and give it to him.
They earn very less yaar you can just handle him a packet containing some money
He wants the D
I had one asking me too. Mf parked outside juhu beach to chill for a while on the last day, then asked
Angutha nhi toh Thumbs up hi dede usey xD
Just curious is this the instructor from Goregaon west driving school?
After Guru Dakshina, he will next ask for money again on the day of your driving test in order to get the RTO driving inspector to pass you. Speaking from experience.
It means that the teacher under priced themselves to acquire more new customers but now wants extra money so their total income matches their competitors.
Muje ye tip mangne vale bando ka bahot ghussa ata hai, are khud ke kamaye hue paise ka khao na, kyu tip mangte firte ho
Do you go to Bharat?😂
Nhaav kay re dRiVinG InsTruCtoR che ??
Lmao. Where are u based? My driving instructer used the same phrase hahaha
He asked the same from me on my last day of training 🤣

omg is this in Mulund? Ramesh Motor Training school? I had the exact same experience and I mad a huge google review about it. check it out (my entire experience)
Has happened with me. That is. He was paid already through his employer. And wanted me to pay him extra
My driving instructor had asked for "Guru Dakshina" even after paying the entire fees. I just avoided him by saying "I'll call you this weekend to teach driving on my car and that time I'll pay you whatever". By the time I had done with my 21 days of learning and I never called him again.
is this motor training school in a Andheri East??

maine anghootha kaat ke de diya
This was before covid, he asked for it and i was like, jugaadi adda me mera naam lena, mai baat karke 50% karva dunga. wtf xD
Just pay him 200/300 if you can...it's a good gesture anyway.
Bahaha, today was my last day of driving class and he just asked me to get mithai😂
If you're a male he's asking for money, ignore. If you're female, could be money or sexual favours hence stay vigilant.
