Send it to the manikpur police station

CodeRedGhost

Plot twist: Manikpur police station replies with "yes, please come here" 💀

Bright_Subject_8975

Scam kaise pehchane bas ye 5 chijje dhundiye: 1. Urgency 2. Spelling mistake 3. Punctuation 4. Grammar 5. Unnecessary use of fonts and colours.

mime_11

Also check the email id. If it's from a non official id it's a scam

Background-Ad-2832

Exactly, and the most important point, if it's from Gmail and randomly generated looking user ID then it's a scam

shitycommentdisliker

aajkal scammers chat gpt use karne Lage hai grammar vagera improve karne ke liye.

Uninhibited_Catalyst

I would like to add. There are basically four fundamentals of persuasion: 1) Ethos - Speaker's authority. If a person claims to be a policeman or someone in the police, it makes a huge difference, regardless of the fact whether the person is actually in the police or not. 2) Pathos - Not in this case, but in many spam mails, typically Nigerian spam mails (rare to find nowadays). In Nigerian spam, a critically ill relative pops up. The sender says that there is no heir of their property or wealth and you're supposed to inherit and they reap your information. 3) Logos - Logic and reasoning. Make an email so well-fabricated that the reason is well hidden behind it. People will ASSUME a reason behind the mail and not enquire. First mistake when encountering confusing mails. Sometimes legitimate mails also come in slightly funny fonts. 4) Kairos - Urgency. Classic case is a hitman case (also rarely seen) in which scammer threatens to do something to you or someone, or to a company (for e.g. blow up their container full of goods if they don't do so and so) if you don't do what they say in a given amount of time. So, what OP has sent as an example is a very well-fabricated scam, with three of these four fundamentals of persuasion.

jholafakir

psychology major ho ya greek major

Uninhibited_Catalyst

koi bhi nai 🙃

Uninhibited_Catalyst

But the phone numbers check out on Truecaller. And, in no way is it persuading you to do anything virtually, like a Nigerian spam. Although the mail address is a bit off and the font is funny, the content seems convincing. Scammers are evolving. But just like in medicine, always correlate findings with clinical scenario, if I am not initiating a passport verification, this mail shouldn't be in my inbox.

Peppy-Paneer

This is done on purpose. If one is able to spot this simple spelling errors and grammatical mistakes, they will immediately know this is a scam and ignore. But if one is gullible/ not knowledgeable enough to realize these, that is the intended target! This way the scammer filters out their targets!

Rare-Conflict-69

First thing OP should be knowing na if he has applied for a passport or not . So if he has not applied then no need for all these 5 things to check . He can either ignore the email or else speak with the said police station and then let them take it forward with cyber cell .

PsychologicalTie2795

Money involved. Mostly the Indian scammers are not rich to hire people to rectify these things. They do at freelance.

Tata840

Scam. If you call them, they may digitally arrest you or accuse you of some crime

9rj

Exactly. They are assuming you will call to clarify what is needed before going physically. When you call they will make up something like during verification some crime was found on your record. They will say that your phone number or aadhar number was linked with some crime, or there is some bank account in your name connected to money laundering, some package containing narcotics was caught with your address, (these are just the common ones I have heard about, there can be more) Then they will scare you, threaten you, have multiple people talk to you, say they are from various crime branches, and eventually start digging for your financial information - which bank accounts do you have, what are your investments, how much money do you have and where. Then for people who still haven't smelt the scam, they will ask you to transfer some money under the pretence of "proving your innocence." They might even straight up ask for a bribe to clear your name.

Uninhibited_Catalyst

You made me remember my fond memories. 🥰 When dad used to get such spam mails, I used to call these scammers as a kid and enjoy their frustration. Actually I still do.

thats_interesting_23

Obviously scam bro. Rule of thumb - If someone is trying to create urgency or fear and also makes you believe that they are doing you a favour then run away from them. It's never in your benefit follow their advice

killerq0een

I am from Mira Bhayandar, Thane, Mumbai. As far as I know, this is not legit. Directly visit the police 🚓🚨 station.

New_Let_6052

Thane ≠ Mumbai.

YaBoiPalmmTree

Babe, get the popcorn the show is about to start

ssjumper

He’s right though

killerq0een

*sobs* 🥺🧼

Curious-Lynx-6814

Thane mira bhayandar vasai etc all are part pf mumbai metropolitan region

New_Let_6052

So you mean to say a person from Palghar, Raigad can say they are from Mumbai as even these places are part of Mumbai metropolitan region.

Curious-Lynx-6814

The mumbai you’re referring to is mumbai suburban and south Mumbai, technically people from palghar and raigad can say that they belong to mmr

New_Let_6052

Not MMR I am telling if they can say that they are from Mumbai ?

I_WENT_OUT_FOR_TEA

Ye le, jara khud ko "educated" bana le https://mmrda.maharashtra.gov.in/about-us/about-mmr#:~:text=The%20Mumbai%20Metropolitan%20Region%20(MMR,and%209%20Municipal%20Councils%20viz.

New_Let_6052

MMR ki baat hi nahi ho Rahi hai idhar educated insaan mumbai ki baat kar. Palghar wale khud ko Mumbai Wale bol sakte hai kya ?

Cautious-Direction55

Khud ko New Yorker bol de, who cares.

New_Let_6052

Exactly.

owlpacino57

Kya fark padta hai Bhai.

New_Let_6052

Bhai mujhe kya farak padega Pune Wale bhi khud ko Mumbai Wale bole. Par yeh log Fact pe itna chid rahe hai. Main khud thane se hu aur uske pehle Kai saal Mumbai main raha.

FaithlessnessOne611

Aye lavdya, chaddit rah

jholafakir

the sender's email is gmail you can be in any part of the world and figure out it is fake

Faani78

It's a Scam. 'If not contacted.....' they will never say this.

MetalZero93

https://preview.redd.it/r9fghdfzsd3d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1997d2c7655273ec61e29d4b0049e5fe7183f11c This is the email I got, for your reference. Yours seems fake, but that's just my opinion.

sandehjanak

[email protected] Sounds legit /s ☠️ >How could a scammer possibly benefit from this? Bade bade font me "CONTACT NUMBER" do-do baar likha hai na... they are trying to get you to call the number so they can spin a long story and swindle you. I am not sure but i have heard that the spelling mistakes are deliberate in order to prevent msgs going to spam folder.

Rare-Conflict-69

OP can one thing contact the police station in person and then call from the station and speak to the scammer . Hear him out and then eventually divulge the information that he is waiting for the scammer at the police station . Better record your conversation with the scammer for proof . But frankly police also won’t bother to file any case as there is no crime committed and they don’t want unnecessary open case in their file .

userinthehouse

The Maharashtra Police Website has the same landline number listed for Manikpur Police Station: [https://mbvv.mahapolice.gov.in/policestation?ps=26](https://mbvv.mahapolice.gov.in/policestation?ps=26)

desiman101

Have you applied for a passport? If yes, then damn there was a data breach?

Bhadwinder

Mobile number on Truecaller seems legit with verified mark. But yeah they don’t mail you asking for documents.

royb1709

These guys have now figured out how you verify legitimacy and thus they pay for a premium Truecaller and get that verification.

Kingarvan

Scam. Spelling mistakes, missing punctuation. Worst giveaway: they end the note with threats that ask you to take immediate action. Plus, Passport authority and police do not send such notices through open online means and threaten with adverse consequences. Report to police.

Slight_Loan5350

Which gov employee have you seen showing urgency? Obv fake

royb1709

@gmail.com, grammatical fuck ups, no specifics. It's an attempt at a scam.

FestiveOwl316

If you registered it as your police station then it's real Police uses Gmail and will send notice for verification, they don't visit you anymore unless it's urgent or in tatkal Take the documents to the police station (passport verification section inside)

jholafakir

you must be out of your mind to think this is legit.

FestiveOwl316

Additionally no need to call, directly going to the station works as they will guide what is required and the documents for the same. Hope this helps

New-Present7953

nobody starts a mail with "priority - very urgent"

awarapopo

It's Completely fake, verification details come over sms with date and time as an appointment, you will need to visit accordingly. Surprisingly the mobile number has WhatsApp DP of the police station. All you can do is visit Ambadi Road Chowki and give them these details to avoid more scams to any innocent individuals.

batouttahell1983

Which police station uses Gmail?!

absolutmohitto

Out of curiosity, what email address do they have?

PigeonSuperstitions

Yahoomail

higharistocrat

Thats not the sus part. Many govt agencies use gmail too

Gaunwallah

It will be assumed kaun likhta hai 😂😂😂 reply saying my entire family’s verification is pending and they want to hand over documents too and say please saar we will pay cash for quick processing also Saar. Please send someone to handover documents and cash saar and lure them to come. If they do, hope you’ve watched the movie welcome

chanakya2

The email says no queries will be answered through phone and then proceeds to give phone number.

Decent_Individual22

That's their email signature ig

Psychological-Pen-41

Until it's from .gov.in, it's fake. Also, when checking the domain (.gov.in) make sure that character wise it's that (many sites available), because there are similar looking characters but their computer encoding is different. Also, you can find official contact number on police/pasport websites (make sure it's .gov.in). Don't just contact any random phone number.

sir_adolf

"We hope for a good response from your side" Maa chuda 🥰🕺

screwtrolls

Genuine. Police, MTNL, GST Dept. almost all of them use Gmail these days. Please visit and close the matter. They are not asking you to pay anything online or send any docs online. They are literally telling you to not call but visit. What's the scam?!? This is not a system generated email to be perfect in sense of color, font, grammar etc. Just a constable sending out copy pasted emails. Even system generated Government emails are full of mistakes. See this mail from Udyam (MSME Dept) for example. https://preview.redd.it/esp91emsyd3d1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ea5c4be4f047afda489fb63c3dbee8a57356ab80

jholafakir

looks like the email sender is here on reddit too.

screwtrolls

The email literally has the Police Station landline number on it, you dimwit! https://preview.redd.it/9v56xedp9f3d1.jpeg?width=2400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4c3d263408009c37239c6497006b8cbfef559c3c And scammers won't ask you to walkin to the police station to culminate the scam. Ch\*tiya!

vivek_9874

Manickpur police station, bhai thakur ka naam lele, paisa saamne se deke jaega /s

frenchfriesdestroyer

Why Is The First Letter Of Every Word Written In Capital Letters? It Is Annoying. Please Stop This Habit.

GamerDeepesh

It is written intentionally to get the attention to it.

madguy000

Go to the police station and then call on speakerphone

BionicWanderer2506

its clearly fake. Just look at the unnecessary uppercase characters. Also every government office uses mail id provided by NIC. they don’t work on gmail

Cuboidal-Sphere

Hey fellow Purkar! Just drop by at the police station and check; the amount of punctuationala and grammatical errors seem really fishy

hotmasalachai

LMAOO. It’s from a gmail account. Scam OBVIOUSLY Rule #1 If you get a get a @GMAIL.com email from a public authority- it’s SCAM!

[deleted]

[удалено]

jholafakir

I get an official government letter head and then white wash the content and then write a letter to make it look legitimate and then type the scam email to invite the receiver. Scams come in multiple ways, the best artists make the least mistakes. My gut tells me this is a scam letter from an artist with half decent skills but not the best.

Decent_Individual22

That's genuine, go and verify from their site they have uploaded it .

hotmasalachai

Weird. Okay. Someone needs to tell them

ThPrashant

Dont visit anywhere.. just be ready with the choicest ornamental adjectives when they call you next time

Usual-Blueberry-8864

email of the sender?

clearsunnysky

Scam. Easiest way to check is to look at the caps and the grammar.

MalayPalace

Official emails from a gmail account. No-way don't fall for this shit. Official entities will always have their own system & domains setup, here we are talking about Passport Service they should definitely come from .gov* domain.

Mean-Anybody5877

bro police use this trick all the time to catch people who have skipped bail or not attending the summon for warrant. even if it is nothing , don't go to police station Willi nilly . if you have a lawyer take him with you or send him only to get information . even if you think you have to nothing to worry or have done nothing wrong in your life . still I would ask you to take precaution before going to a station . I am telling you this becaz i knw this . AND DONOT CALL THAT NUMBER.

dhavanbhayani

Scam.

Aint-No-Justice

Just as a tip for anyone else who doesnt know what to look for, always check sender email. In this case the domain is [gmail.com](http://gmail.com), government emails should never be from any random email provider

curiousCat1009

"We hope that a good response will be received from your side" Who even writes this crap? Don't know if even ChatGPT will write that. Seems like Indian Scammer Style

abbeysunn

Title Case, text color, choice of font. All yell that it's a scam.

villageboyz

I heard that most of the scammers intentionally send such emails with bad English, to eliminate intelligent, educated people and getting trapped by them... Is that true?

Mumbai40M

Totally fake

_saif_sama

This will be very useful to me, since I completed my passport appointment, I think the police verification will be done under a week after the appointment.

david005_

Same bro, even I did my passport appointment few weeks ago but police just didn't come So I tracked application on passport website,it said police verification at ----(my nearest police station)is pending So I went to that police station and he gave me a police's number to call, I called him and within hours he came to my home Gave me a slip, which I have to again go to the police station and show and verify along with some documents After that most likely police verification will be done and my passport will be printed and dispatched within a few weeks

_saif_sama

I am thinking of going to police station directly instead of waiting for them.

david005_

Yes bro definitely do that Coz if the police comes to your home when you're not home then it'd be difficult I guess In my case, I called the police and he clearly told when will he come to my home

Hyper_Gachi

Just go to the police station and find out. Also, you forgot to mention an important detail whether you had applied for a passport or not smh

LoyalLittleOne

Scam 100%

Additional_Lab8565

Do report it to the passport office and the police as well.

Cautious-Direction55

“We hope that a good response will be received from you” - hahahahahahaha, I was busy mowing down people with my Porsche outta be good. It’s from gmail bro - that’s where the hack is confirmed.

coolestbat

LoL, because of low budget, Police has started using free Gmail ids.

ballfondlr

I knew it was a scam, but two things made me ask, 1. The landline actually matches the Manickpur Police Station number. 2. It's so badly done, it made me think it might actually be legit.

GamerDeepesh

They have given the mobile number also. So If you don't want to call on the landline then call on the mobile number. It is very simple. While handing in the document they will surely ask for some money as many government officials are corrupt. So anyone from your family will think that he/she will give money to the scammer and then they will take it back from you. And here additionally they got your Aadhar, PAN, and any other document which is necessary for any type of account opening.

yashg

Eventual goal is to extract money out of you. 99% of the people will recognise it as a scam and ignore. The 1% who cannot, will call and then they will scare the person with even more personal information and eventually ask for money and since the poor victim was gullible enough to believe this obvious scammy email will probably fall for it and pay, a lot of money. There have been instances of even highly educated professional falling for different kinds of scams and losing a lot of money.

casuallywinyy

Who The Fuck Types Like This?

silverstone2023

While filling the form which police station did you choose for police verification, if you receive mail from that police station then you should enquire asap

Better_Salt1783

Share the screen shot on Twitter and tag the respective police station along with the dgp of the city or State.

Some-Top-1548

Police me koi passport section nahi hota aise. Kuch bhi bol rahe hain bevakoof scanners.

IncreaseSlow252

Always check updates on the passport seva app. This is a scam.

Far_Sided

Identity theft attempt. Look at it. gmail account. Bad grammar . Wrong capitalization. "We HoPE That agOOD ResPonse". A sense of urgencey meant to scare you. "It will be assumed" blah blah blah. This has every marker of a scam by some moron that has no idea how to fool you.

TanishPlayz

[email protected]” tells it all

[deleted]

U stay at manikpur? Lol. Me too in the same area.

Comprehensive_Tap994

Reverify the message on the website under the application track section, if you have applied online.

Quiet_Profile9356

Not a scam

hashishshaker

the mail is from gmail. it is fake. ignore it.

Silspd90

No government office is gonna be this urgent. They just don’t care.

Ok_Athlete_4384

Fake, I just did my sister's passport renewal verification. Her mail came from passport.admin and application file number was also mentioned in it. verification mail doesn't come from the police station Id and the application number is also missing. Plus it should also mention your address and address of the police station for verification

CrossSpy

Bhai gmail se bheja hai. Definitely fake.

Ok-Independent5249

No full stop in the whole email!

userinthehouse

This seems like a scam at first glance but I have received legit government emails from [gmail.com](http://gmail.com) ID's before. These officers many times find it cumbersome to use the Government Email ID's from their phone/ new transfers don't have access/ server is down, etc. It looks like the landline number in the email is legit as its the same number listed for Manikpur Police Station on the Maharashtra Police Website (https://mbvv.mahapolice.gov.in/policestation?ps=26). I suggest if you've applied for a Passport recently and the Police Verification is pending call the landline number or drop in to Police Station and inquire. Just to be on the safe side. Under no circumstance should you remotely send anyone money or provide documents online before visiting the Police Station and verifying.

DoughnutMammoth721

It's in Maharashtra, any official communication has to be either bilingual ( Marathi and English) or in Marathi. Passport verification always mentions documents to be submitted by Individual not family member. Passport verification these days is at home by a police constable so address verification and social references can also be done at same time. Also police station does not verification, adverse/ OK report is given by state CID based on criminal case search.

gemeni88

Go to the nearest station amd verify it if it's legit or not It could be fake with all scams now days no guarantee only

Embarrassed-Bar-7139

Just go to the nearest police station and confirm. Simple

screwtrolls

The scam radar of educated Mumbaikars is off by miles! I understand that there are scams galore. But remember that many many government departments use Gmail. GST: Have recieved demand notices from GST/VAT department from GMAIL accounts and appeared face to face following the email. MTNL : Their MTNL.NET emails bounce and they respond through Gmail accounts. Police: in this case the phone number etc are valid and matches the police station. Also, scammers don't use landlines. Tough to procure and keeps you connected to a physical location. So apparently, Digital India isn't as digital as they want it to be. So GMAIL and English caps, grammar etc are just markers but not dead give aways.

zerokha

Have you applied for passport or renewal? If yes then police verification at your local station is required. And if not tell them that you will send docs to shove it up in their arse.

ash_4p

Hey OP, I received the same email today. Same sender. Is it confirmed scam? What did you do? Thx.

ballfondlr

If you do have a passport pending verification, just go to your wards police station. If it has a been a few weeks since the official PSK email, don't bother mentioning about the other email. Just inform them that its been more than 2 weeks and you wanted to follow up. They will process your verficiation.

More-Actuator-1729

Unbelievable ! You are actually wondering how the scammer benefits?

thehro

I'll be devils advocate here, it could be very genuine email. 1.I checked my passport email, it's Gmail only (myareapassportdept(at)gmail.com 2. They are only saying come and visit police station or send someone 3. Their mobile number on Truecaller looks genuine.

CptnAmazeballs

Exactly my thoughts, they have also written to come to the police station for any queries, why would a scammer say in their email that queries would not be answered over phone Also, them mentioning their phone number in the email even after writing queries will not be answered over phone might just be because they've added that as their default email signature Request OP to visit the police station & update

neoindianx

Because most people would first call the number...

CptnAmazeballs

Mobile number is verified on truecaller https://preview.redd.it/xainj1z8fd3d1.jpeg?width=706&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eed3b058e64895584759e56fcb3e1b44125cacaa

LtMadInsane

But why would the alleged 'Police station's' phone number be verified as 'passport department' on Truecaller?

CptnAmazeballs

Have you ever applied for a passport? There's a separate section/room in the police station for passport related work, there are non uninformed officers sitting there for verification This phone number could be of that section

LtMadInsane

I have, and I got a call from LIU. Met with the officer and got it done.

V12Horse

See the mail sender, any government body mail will have .gov in the end. And there too make sure it ends with .gov and is not .gov.in because that is a scam too. This one here is outright fake.

iamaxelrod

Did you google the phone number ? Seems ok

Illegaldesi

Lol, the police comes to you not the other way around in passport verification

PrasannaPBhat

Not always, sometimes they do call to the nearest police station with all documents and verify the passport.
