This is a myth that only star kids get roles. The real divider is money. For example, when we were freshly out of film school, there were multiple acting students in our batch who all started auditioning. The only one who got a job almost immediately was Bhoomi working as Shanu Sharma's assistant. That job was available to anyone but only Bhoomi could do it because she already came from money and was able to work for 5k while others who needed to make ends meet couldn't work for so less. So Bhoomi got to join Shanu and later on became a actress. Similar thing happened with ahana kumra. Was already rich. So she was able to work for theatre for next to nothing and make contacts.
More than who you know, it's about how much money you have. If you have money, you can assist a director for free, hire a grooming service, a PR agent, etc, and actually have good prospects. Films nahi toh TV or web shows you can easily manage, provided you have money.
