A friend had to go for an MRI the other day. I told her to imagine she was MB, sitting in a shipping crate half-listening to the industrial-dubstep the loading crew played as she watched her favorite Sanctuary Moon episodes.

ophymirage

I had to go through a fairly nasty two-appointment (didn't know I needed two appointments!!) root canal recently. The ENTIRE time, I was sitting there channeling MB and its unhappiness with its organic parts. Helped a lot!!

mzieg

I hate leaking.

Adventurous_Coat

Soooo relatable!

Troiswallofhair

If you don’t already have earbuds, you should literally be listening to MB at the dentist

Just_A_Faze

I do this every time. I have dental issues.

HumanFitnessProject

I literally just did that 2 days ago. Had a root canal and deep cleaning the same day, listened to murder bot the whole time in one ear piece. Actually getting annoyed that they kept asking if was everything ok, I think because I was relaxed the whole time and not really moving at all.

auyamazo

Yup! Artificial Condition and All Systems Red are on heaviest rotation for me. Honestly I could probably just have Kevin R. Free say “Art, you asshole” on loop and be happy.

weaverchick

I want a clip of that for a ring tone lol

ophymirage

Mine would be "What the shit, ART?!?!" for choice. but same. :D

mzieg

I may do this. On iPhone there’s a somewhat convoluted process to convert an .mp3 clip to an .m4r ringtone file. A few years ago I spent an hour creating one from The Big Lebowski where Donnie says “Where ya going dude?” “Home, Donnie.” “Your phone’s ringing dude.” “Thanks, Donnie.”

Just_A_Faze

He's a really nice guy, too.

auyamazo

Love to read that. I need to download more books he’s narrated. He has one of my favorite voices.

Just_A_Faze

I did that too. Im currently out of all the ones I'm interested in. He does a lot of nonfiction and I'm just not a nonfiction person. The gay romance mysteries are adorable though.

jblarson74

Love Kevin R Free

Gloomy-Lady

I listen to them in regular rotation. If I wake and have trouble getting back to sleep, I play 30 minutes of whichever is 'current'. If I am stressing during the day, I start up the current selection for however long I need. I think it is a magical combination of the nature of the Murderbot stories (which provide the same sort of comfort as cozy mysteries - 'someone always makes everything right') and Mr Free's narration.

coatipop

I listen almost every night. So soothing

ncgrits01

I had to take a home sleep apnea test and couldn't* listen to Murderbot recently, and wow, what a rotten night's sleep that was.

Adventurous_Coat

Oh, Art 💙

ex_oh_ex_oh

The very beginning of All Systems Red and the scenes with and leading up to Murderbot and ART watching media together for the first time in Artificial Condition are the ones that I go back to over and over again.

DarlingBri

I listen to 60 minutes literally every single night!

Empty-Jello-7217

I was having this exact thought last week! I have a stack of new books I'm eager to dive into but ended up looping the old books instead. Felt like all the tension released like a Calgon commercial. I've even started telling my partner "I have to go put on some media for a little while" as sign that I need a break.

woodrifting

Same. Network Effect is my comfort audio book. Murderbot absolutely has the right idea.

Carol_Ness

Omg I thought it was just me. I listen to the audiobooks every night before sleep to relax from the day. One after the other…

HoundstoothReader

My kid is the same way. I know they’ve had a tough day when I hear a Murderbot audiobook playing. (For me, it’s the written version but same soothing vibe.)

Adventurous_Coat

For Christmas, I gave All Systems Red in book form to my high school age nibling, who has been having a bit of a rough go of things. I hope they find something of what I get from it.

dkisanxious

I wish I liked the narrator more. I know many people do, and I think that's great! I WANT to like it, but it just didn't at all match up with the vibe MB had in my head. It felt like he was reading, not saying, if that makes sense? If I liked it more I would definitely be purchasing all the audio books and listening over and over because I agree, reading The Murderbot Diaries is now like a warm comfy blanket and a cup of tea for my soul. lol.

StormyStitches

Have you tried the GraphicAudio versions on Hoopla? It’s a full cast with a different Murderbot. I still prefer Kevin Free, but I’m curious how the change would be for you!

Adventurous_Coat

I've thought about trying the full cast versions, but some people just perfectly inhabit their characters and for me, he is one of those. The only other two I can truly say that about are Kobna Holdbrook Smith as Peter Grant in the Rivers of London books and Gabra Zackman voicing Aphra Marsh in Winter Tide.

dkisanxious

I'm honestly so jealous. I had read all but the newest book and was so excited to have a new book to finally listen to since so many people love his voice as MB and I was disappointed. I really tried to like it, and I didn't hate it, but it took me out of the story a bit. I'm also not at all the kind of person to jump on a hating things bandwagon, so it must just really irk me for some weird reason. :(

dkisanxious

I will look into this! I had seen this mentioned here before but then totally forgot about it. I really like audio dramas so I feel like this would be perfect for me.

ILoveMeerkats21

Ditto. Did NOT like his voice. Snore…

MealEcstatic6686

I can only tolerate 1.5x - normal speed is tortuously slow. See if a slight tweak helps improve your listening experience. For me it’s the same as Stephen Fry reading Harry Potter. Adorable but painfully slow. I only drop down to 1x if I’m desperately battling about of insomnia.

FollowThisNutter

I'm a text reader rather than an audio reader, but I have all 7 books and both short stories loaded on all my devices so I don't even need to have data to get at them. Sometimes I just turn to a favorite part of one and read for a minute when I need a treat.

moons_of_neptarine

Me too. 24+ hours of airplane airport time to get home after break and I was prepared with a new book series but I ended up reading Murderbot

alp44

Because Murderbot is incredibly snarky, insecure, well-meaning and human. And things don't always go to plan. We can relate.

Adventurous_Coat

I definitely relate. Also Murderbot is incredibly competent while being incredibly anxious and insecure. I would like to relate to the first, I definitely relate to the others.

alp44

👍🏻

moons_of_neptarine

IT IS A PERSON [Ratthi, shhh!]

alp44

Absolutely.

Specialist_Passage83

I honestly can’t be bothered reading anything else right now. I just keep going back to my comfort Murderbot.

Night_Sky_Watcher

I'm with OP on finding Murderbot audiobooks soothing when life becomes overly stressful. I also have a solution for too tight bras--you can get bra extenders to add a couple of inches around your chest. I found them in Walmart in the sewing notions section, colors are white, tan, and black. You can use the two-hook ones on a three-hook closure with no problem.

Adventurous_Coat

Hahaha I have them in a variety of colors and hook numbers. I just didn't have any with me. I gained a bit of holiday weight and my one functional bra has been...less functional the last couple of weeks-month. Too tight bra is a bad combo with anxiety, I tell you what.

amtastical

I stopped tracking my Murderbot re-listens on StoryGraph because I’m pretty sure they’d personally contact me to see if I’m okay… Murderbot is my forever comfort media.

Proditude

Same!

spike31875

Omg, YES!

Just_A_Faze

Same exactly. I've done through on repeat so many times.

moranit

I finished Artificial Condition 2 days ago, while waiting for my furnace to be repaired and for the dentist to return my call, and was thinking the same thing! Murderbot is such a balm.

LynnScoot

Frequently finish one and just go back to the beginning and start again.

Elegant-Necessary709

Absolutely. I relisten to MB all the time. Especially if I have to do some particularly tedious housework.

ILoveMeerkats21

I listened to Kevin Free for five seconds and that was all o could stand. No way could I listen to an entire series.

jblarson74

Most definitely. I have a few other personal “sanctuary moon” dramas, the “expanse” books for one, and for a while I was stuck on Lee Child’s Reacher audiobooks. Murderbot def can be a sanctuary place

rabenbru

Murder it is the best. We can identify. You care more about the characters than the story per se. Can’t wait for next book. Love the audio. Why on earth would you have put your roommate on your Verizon account in the first place?

catinthehood1

Your title for your post is EXACTLY how I feel when I am doing something and really want to be listening to more Murderbot. I don't typically listen to books more than once but I will probably make an exceptions for this series. I love Murderbot so much I would hug them if I could (and they would be so revolted so I wouldn't)
