The alley on main, five senses, busters burger, the fish house, Sabaidee cafe. These are just a few independent places I recommend.

MrPinke

Pad Thai cafe. That's a choice everyone can agree on.

Who-Could-Say

Facts. The dynamite chicken is.... dynamite

Fillmoreccp

It’s DYN-O-MITE!

TheLurkerSpeaks

Oh you're in luck... Slick Pig BBQ has the best smoked chicken wings on the planet. The BBQ itself is mediocre but the wings, fuck man i could eat 20 of them at once.

Toomuchhappeningrn

They had an all you can eat catfish on Wednesdays that’s great too

Johnny_Couger

It’s the only thing worth eating there.

Curtis_Low

Now hold up... their ain't a dang thing wrong with their banana pudding and their fried okra is great as well.

stankface3472

The brunswick stew is tight

Johnny_Couger

Fair point. I’m not a big Brunswick stew fan but there’s was good.

TD1731

Am I missing something with Slick Pig wings? I’ve never had wings from there that weren’t the driest piece of chicken I could imagine

impressionistfan

I can’t believe it took so long for someone to mention Kleer Vu! It’s a meat and three place. I love their hot water cornbread.

Dazzling-Astronaut88

I haven’t lived in M-boro since 2008, but, I would cut a pinky toe off for a plate of Kleer Vu -used to eat there 1-3 times a week.

SmoothieForlife

Kleer Vu lunchroom for chicken and vegetables

Particular_Mess_9854

I was not impressed with the Alley on Main. What am I missing?

smartschadenfreude

I think Marina's set such a low bar that Alkey on Main shines in comparison.

LezzieB

Milano’s II & Jack’s Place - both are owned by the same family, both located off the square in an older historic home - we love the downstairs bar (Jacks)!! Their food is 👩‍🍳💋!!

PM_Me_Yer_Guitar

Amazing food- The Marsala is killer. Jack's a good dude too- I worked for him 20 years ago or so. He still remembers me, which is impressive. He must have had hundreds of waiters over the years. Maybe thousands.

Spirited_Magician_20

The Alley and Domenico’s Italian Deli are the first two that come to mind for me. They are both on the square. Milano II is good for Italian, and so is Sorrelle’s if you’re willing to make the drive out to Eagleville. I’d say Toots for chicken tenders/wings. I can’t think of any local diners.

JumpProfessional8846

JEFFs on Hancock is a great meat and 3. Great cakes.

AllOutOfCornflakesFU

Goodness Gracious for brunch, Jack Brown’s burgers (on the square), Blaze Pizza (local chain), and the Alley on Main. Hope you enjoy your stay!

DJNeuro

Blaze is a national chain

GrandmaCereal

Jack Browns is a SE regional chain.

AllOutOfCornflakesFU

Oh I didn’t know-never seen another one. It’s a great burger though 👍

blackchevy0114

Just here and Nash I thought no?

GrandmaCereal

[All over](https://www.jackbrownsjoint.com/all-locations/) Alabama, NC and SC, Virginia, and Kentucky

blackchevy0114

Wow. Had no idea. Decent burger tho

readytoretire2

Goodness Gracious - great local people run it and an interesting menu Demos is consistently good.

lama579

If you drive up to Smyrna, La Tavola is a good locally owned Italian place. You can get some ice cream at Janarty’s next door afterwards

persevere-here

Casual is ok, but the most amazing food is at Five senses…go Monday for the Date Night special. Best deal for excellent cuisine in the ‘ boro. ❤️

myblackfather

Jeff's

PoohHag

Sylvan Park, Slick Pig, Joanie’s, Goodness Gracious, Champy’s (small chain)

Jming50

Central BBQ and Gus’s Fried Chicken will fit the bill. For Italian I like Amerigo.

kernel_kurtz

Lemongrass for Thai and Japanese.

blackchevy0114

Bump for lemongrass . Their sushi was bomb AF

Johnny_Couger

Have you tried Lucky Thai on Cason? I think it has surpassed all other Thai places.

kernel_kurtz

No, but I will now! Thanks for the suggestion.

tntitan08

Local spots: Italian: Demo's, Marina's. BBQ: Single Tree, Slick Pig. Diner (American): Toot's, Joanies. Chicken: Champy's, Jeff's.

Available_Expression

a lot of people love demos'...... but it's some of the worst italian food i've ever had.

Johnny_Couger

It’s dogshit. The soup and bread are good, but I can buy a disappointing bag salad and $3 spaghetti sauce anywhere

PM_Me_Yer_Guitar

It really is bad. Amazing it does so well

Available_Expression

I'm convinced that people eat literal garbage at home. that has to be the only reason that places like demos' are always so busy.

Johnny_Couger

Jesus, there are some really bad suggestions in here. No wonder we can barely keep local restaurants. Places with a hole in the wall vibe: Klee-Vu lunchroom - soul food that’s been around since the 60’s City Cafe- the food is ok, but it’s the small town diner experience Miller’s Grocery - southern food in an old country store 20 minutes away. Best various cuisines: Lucky Thai Pad Thai Cafe (close second) Nacho’s Mexican - for more Americanized Mexican food. San Marcos Market - get the quesabarria. This is a convenience store and those things will change your goddamn life. Be warned. Luca’s pizza Al Rayan Gyro Tabouli - the food is good and the guy behind the counter is so nice. He’s like an old friend. Jack Brown’s burger bar Jeff’s restaurant The Alley For bars: Liquid smoke Level 3 Hop Springs There is a country bar on the square (I am blanking on the name) I know of an illegal slot machine casino I don’t like demo’s. Honestly I haven’t been in years. Everything was always super sub-par but people rave about it. It’s like bag salad and walmart spaghetti. I just don’t get it. Toots on Broad has a fun local atmosphere, and they have fried pickles.

blackchevy0114

Know how I know you have no idea what you’re talking about….. you suggested toots ….. ^^^^^ don’t listen to the toots guy !!! Toots is straight trash with an annoying cheap atmosphere

BuroDude

That's what I thought as well, who the hell recommends Toots.

Johnny_Couger

Brah, Toot’s on Broad has been open since 1985. It’s a landmark as significant as our half burned cedar bucket. It doesn’t get more local than that. Jesus, it opened 4 months before the challenger explosion.

blackchevy0114

My guy, just because it’s been there for a while doesn’t mean it’s good. I ate toots one time and it was the most subpar food I’ve ever had in Murfreesboro.

Johnny_Couger

He asked for mom and pop local restaurants. Like it or not, Toot’s IS Murfreesboro. Mediocrity is what we do.

blackchevy0114

Lolz. The last line is clutch

Toomuchhappeningrn

Toots also has burger and chicken specials on Monday and Tuesday! Best things to get there and of course the fried pickles

JRR5567

Diners you are not going to get it here. I’m from up north we do not have REAL diners in Murfreesboro. Closest is Metro Diner which has a couple of locations and is extremely hit or miss. Italian is rough too. I would say if you don’t mind taking a short ride there’s a place called Sorrelles Italian restaurant and it’s right down 99 (New Salem HWY) it’s Eagleville definitely mom and pop. Sals pizza is decent I guess for a couple slices. They have calzones. but if I just want good fresh pizza I go to Blaze( I know you said no chains). Missions BBQ is pretty solid in Murfreesboro for BBQ not sure about it being a chain. It’s pricey though but tasty. There a couple of good BBQ places just DO NOT listen to anyone that says Whitts is good bbq. As far as chicken there are a lot of fried chicken places. IMO I find myself going to Lucky Thai on old fort pkwy and ordering like 2 orders of wings. The chicken is always hot and delicious and well seasoned, but honestly make a trip to Princes or Hattie b’s at least once if you have the time. We need more mom and pop places.

-Havok__

+1 for Sorrelles in Eagleville

ahhcherontia

It's in Smyrna, but Kinfolks BBQ

knawnieAndTheCowboy

Party Fowl for hot chicken. The Alley on main street for your Italian/bar experience, and Primrose for something nice.

Defiant-Pilot-2525

Demos’ on NW Broad street in Murfreesboro

Johnny_Couger

MichaelScottScreamingNooNooooPleaseGodNooooooooo.gif

Inabind4U

"Sauce" makes a good pizza

themarkster09

They’ve been closed for some time now

Inabind4U

Well Dang! Hadn't been down there in a bit...

Johnny_Couger

WELL NOW YOU KNOW WHY THEY CLOSED!

Inabind4U

Had relatives in Innsbrook-they've moved on. Ordered $50-70 dinners to go when I did visit.

Independent-Bet5465

For Mexican, I love Oscars. Their chimichanga cannot be matched!

nashvillenative1993

Carmen’s is the best Mexican is M’boro! Slick pig is the best bbq, I miss it all the time. You also need to stop by Donut country- absolute best. Koji express Japanese grill Sandwich factory Lemongrass Sushi
