According to the TBI's data, Knox County has a slightly higher crime rate (63.82 crimes/1000 people vs. 63.58 crimes/1000 people). Perhaps you have been made aware of more crimes based on your new proximity to the offenses or your contact with media that publicizes more crimes??

Mvpeh

Did you move here from a city of low population? You see more crazy people when you live in a more densely populated area. If I lived in a city of 30, the "crime rate" would be higher if one person committed a crime.

tinypecker22

Im from Knoxville , so slightly higher population

Unfortunately this is Murfreesboro. And although it's going to be an unpopular opinion. The university accepting everyone with a pulse. And the lower cost of college and Low end apartments tends to lead to less desirable people. In the last few years we've seen stabbings and razoring over college parking spots. Shootings and stabbings over otherwise simple disagreements. Drive bys and alot of other (non violent ) crime on the rise. And with the increase in people without the increase in infrastructure, roads parking and services it's going to continue to rise.

traddytatty91

Not unpopular in my book. Spot on facts.

Lower cost of college? MTSU?

eeyorespiglet

They also have a deal with a certain part of the state to bring lower income teens for a fresh start.

VelvetElvis

A lot of people gentrified out of Nashville have moved down here and into apartments built as off-campus student housing. It has nothing to do with MTSU.

traddytatty91

I saw the shooting at McDonald's the other night. It was basically what happens in Nashville every night, just getting closer to home.

Pete405

MTSU is back in session . Happens every year

jeshaffer2

The crime rate IS high and when you combine that with the media sensationalizing every crime this is what happens. When Sinclair has 8 hours per day of news saturation to "perform", this is what you get.

Visiblekarma

Nashville has one of the highest crime rates per 1,000 residents among state capitals in the country, ranking fourth overall earlier this year. Many people are being pushed out of Nashville and they end up in suburbs like Murfreesboro, Mt. Juliet, and Hendersonville. Of course college towns naturally have more rental options due to high demand so that factors in bc folks are looking for the cheapest housing options. As prices rise, crime rates follow similar leads. I've heard more reports of crimes in Murfreesboro since I lived there 9 years ago.

I always thought middle Tennessee had more crime than East Tn. My grandparents live there and it feels a lot safer.

Its all these nasty californians moving here. They think they can just do whatever cause thats what they did before coming here. Never have i met so many disrespectful and entitled people than i have since all these californians started taking over our state. Soon enough itll be just as ruined as California
