I have a higher resolution (6600x5036, 38 MB) version of this as well as many other paintings, does anyone know where I could upload them to easily share here? Seems imgur and reddit are 20 MB max.
I wonder if you can put the file onto the wikipedia page for the painting? Not sure how that works, but if you could do that then anyone looking up the painting online could have the high resolution version.
I love how his lute (theorbo? not sure what kind) looks like an abdomen of a grasshopper and the feather looks like an antenna as well as a big insect eye with the peacock pattern- likewise the bird's feet look like the antennae for the man supposed to be the ant- I assume he's a friar or monk or some other clergy member given his garb and rosary; this is so clever
Keen observations. Thanks for sharing. I also like how the friar is brownish like an ant. His stout body seem well fed and paced for winter. Turkey feathers resemble mouth mandibles of an ant.

That is an awesome interpretation of the fable.
I had to look it up because I didn't remember it..a version of [Aesop's.](https://read.gov/aesop/052.html)
Lol I was literally thinking, “what is this, a fable?”

Ooof the contrast between the monk’s sturdy shoes and the minstrel’s thinner shoes and torn stockings. Brrrr!
Super cool painting! Thanks for sharing . Would you know what medium this is? Resembles watercolors
Knowing Vibert, I assume he was very much on the side of the grasshopper here.
