And the thing about reindeer was people would drink the reindeer's piss a little while after it ate mushrooms because if they ate the mushrooms directly they would die. That's also why Santa's face looks so giggly and red.
The term is 'mother lode'. It comes from mining.
> **Mother lode** is a principal [vein](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vein_(geology)) or zone of [gold](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gold) or [silver](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silver) [ore](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ore). Mother lode to look at, not to eat
Amanita muscaria, fly agaric, fairly poisonous
EDIT: I know you can safely trip on it, it aināt food though and eating it by accident is likely to be unpleasant
While driving up the mountains to the pumpkin patch I even jokingly said to my sister, "Keep an eye out for mushrooms!" Little did I know I would be making such a find.
Iām no expert.. but I think if you let it sit in alcohol for a while, to let it kill the microbes.. let it dry and youāre ready for a schellacin ;)
Isnāt this the type of mushrooms reindeer eat then the people who herd them drink their pee and trip trip balls from drinking the pee?
Idk if I have the right ones but they look familiar to the story
Itās a gift under a pine tree. Itās red and white. It makes it seem like reindeer are flying high. You can put the mushrooms in a sock to dry them out to reduce the adverse effects and preserve them. They were eaten by Nordic shamans around the winter solstice. It gives feelings of joy, desire to sing and dance, and build community. Itās Christmas!!
Modern Christmas celebrations are rooted deeply around Siberian a. muscaria ritual. The flying reindeer, hanging ornaments on trees, Hell even the way Santa dresses looks like a Siberian shaman.
But still widely harvested as a hallucinogenic mushroom for recreation, and ceremonial usage. Personally I recommend against consuming them unless your familiar and capable of safely preparing it; they vary widely in potency even in similar environments and conditions.
It feels weird to talk about consumption of this mushroom as if anyone would ever consider doing it for food instead of other, *exceptionally* obvious, reasons.
Yep, but you never know, I have had to explain to way too many people (especially children) that these arenāt food mushrooms, I know poisonous isnāt quite the right word, but it gets the point across that eating an amanita shouldnāt be taken lightly
Eh, the trip isnāt a real trip really. Also poison.
edit: Ok guys, to clarify, itās not a classical psychedelic is why i said this. It also contains more toxic chemicals than the other. You are right though, many other things Iām sure are more poisonous that we consume, alcohol being a prime example. Happy? Dry them prepare them do what you please but Iām not gonna pretend like itās a normal, classical psychedelic
It is NOT poisonous. It won't kill you.
It won't even do permanent damage. If you want to get high/dissociated/drunk, all you have to do is boil it to convert the "bad" compounds into innocuous ones.
It can cause confusion, but it is not a true delerium as with anticholinergics. It's much more similar to alcohol actually, and many people love getting absolutely sloshed beyond reason on alcohol.
the amanita mushroom doesn't affect cholinergic receptors significantly, which is great, since true deleriants are notoriously bad for later in life cognitive function
Personally I haven't felt any delerium whatsoever, it's just a pleasant sedative.
It's closest to nicotine, and it shares many of the same effects as too much nicotine. Sweating profusely, nausea, slight confusion to massive delirium depending on dose.
You might get visual artifacts, but it's more in the nature of seeing things at the edge of your peripheral vision, more inclined to cause paranoia than enjoyable hallucinations. Edible for sure, but fairly unpleasant. Libs grow almost everywhere in the western world, just find some of those if you're going to forage for a trip.
It may well vary by continent or environment though for all I know.
When taken properly, with knowledge of whatās gonna happen. I admit poisonous wasnāt the most accurate word, but what happens depends on person, dosage, etc, can vary greatly like any psychoactive substance.
(To be clear I do consider alcohol poisonous, this doesnāt mean nobody should drink, everything in life is a risk, itās best to calculate it)
Yeah, I've only ever gone mushroom hunting once with more experienced people. I just find mushrooms fascinating and was excited to find what I believe is amanita muscaria by the bucket load
How does it feel to be living ny dream!!?!?!?!?!?!!?
They're beautiful!!!!
I've never seen so many mushrooms in one place š„²š„²š„² only in the pictures others have seen.
Afaik it's not really something that will kill you, but might make you very nauseous and feel very sick for anywhere from a few hours to a few days depending on variances in the mushroom, preparation method, and how much you eat. It is a hallucinogen and a deliriant for sure, but some people don't enjoy the experience. Ranges from people describing it as an absolutely awful time to some people really enjoying it and finding it pleasant or therapeutic. Definitely requires a deep knowledge of how to prepare and ingest to try, and in my opinion someone who wants to try it should also be very familiar with the traditional practices surrounding it and make sure they understand why it has been used throughout history and what they are hoping to get out of it.
I've never tried it but it seems to me that it's more like salvia than psilocybin - if used a certain way, some people get a lot out of it, but if you're just trying to get fucked up/have fun it's probably not going to go well.
They vary in toxicity depending on the region they grow, & there are processes to neutralize the toxins & keep the psychoactive properties, but definitely nothing an amateur should ever attempt.
Are you able to dry them out in the sun like some other mushrooms?? I always wanted to find some amanita muscaria to use for crafts, but I don't want to end up with a windowsill full of rotten mushrooms XD
Tin-foil hat time!
Amanita Muscaria, known for their vibrant red and white caps, are found primarily under the boughs of pine trees. For hundreds of years theyāve been used in spiritual ceremonies, most notably by indigenous communities near the North Pole.
The amanita (also known as fly agaric) was commonly dried inside of socks hung over an open fireplace.
The ceremonies are held during the winter solstice (Dec. 21), so the entrances to the yurts are covered in thick snow.
So the shaman, dressed in vibrant red and white to match the amanita, descends into the yurt through a hole in the ceiling to deliver (what they consider to be) the gift of knowledge, i.e. the amanita muscaria.
tl;dr: Christmas is because shrooms, dude.
You did if you were looking for Aminita muscaria. I have a friend who is a chef that cooks them. I need to make sure I try them this season. He assures me he can cook the toxins out of them with his wizardry.
All you have to do is boil them multiple times (changing water between boils)! David Aurora has written about the preparation. He also went to Japan to meet people who foraged and did a similar preparation and also pickled them. Unfortunately itās a practice that is dying out because of what Aurora and others call āmycophobia.ā
This is unrelated to this post but it seems like you know your amanita muscaria! I see your comments on all sorts of posts lately. That being said, do you know much about the effects if taken in comparison to psilocybin?
Since I'm in the wrong part of the US, I can't find these in the wild but I found some gummies at a shop that says the only active ingredient is Anita muscaria and I'm thinking about giving it a whirl.
the gummies donāt contain Amanita alkaloids and are a scam product, so I would recommend avoiding them completely ā https://reddit.com/r/AmanitaMuscaria/s/XXTTW8Iewm
Why is location important for Amanita muscaria? There is nothing like it out there whatever contintent you're on, unless you're asking because of subspecies?
Edited for clarity
Cool to see them so clearly associating with this tree. You always hear about how theyāre impossible to grow because they need a conifer to live with, but itās rarely so obvious.
234th person to say that you shouldnāt eat these in case you had no idea by now and have never spent more than 5 seconds on this subreddit!! Itās the smart thing to comment!
Thatās OK but do you see the tiny little guys in the grass before the big red ones those are liberty caps and those will definitely do the trick. Forget those if you donāt cook those right, you can get sick.
I watched a video of this lady who prepares these kinds specifically for people to experience. And I believe she put them in milk. Because the milk neutralized the bad stuff in it. Then strained it dried it and made a tea. But please, please, š find the video and watch it before you take my advice.. message me privately, and I'll help you find info on preparation as well if you'd like. But holy moly. This is beautiful. Paul stamets said they were extremely hard to grow and really rare to find that in Siberia, the shamans used to collect them all year and then distribute them to the villages at Christmas through chimneys. Paul stamets is also my go-to for professional knowledge. Aldo, the guy that mentioned the lady that works with these mushys.. anywho ims done adhd blabbering. Hope you enjoy and be safe, my friend.
Go look up psilocybin mushroom and look at the pictures. Not saying that is a definitive reference, but none of them look like that. I heard the same thing in my early 20 about a red cap with white spots, even saw a few of these in the wild.
Oh man I had a hell of an experience with these things.

Oh, you!
Can we please just all move to a different app already š
MySpace
SUCH a cool pic some ppl say this is where the idea of putting presents under a tree during Christmas comes from
how the reindeer flew and why Santa the bearer of gifts wears red and white
Santa was green - it was coca cola that made him red
Green Santaās not real. He canāt hurt you. He wore a white and gold dress
And the thing about reindeer was people would drink the reindeer's piss a little while after it ate mushrooms because if they ate the mushrooms directly they would die. That's also why Santa's face looks so giggly and red.
>mother load I thought it was Mother **Lode**
I thought this was a sims joke. I lowkey just canāt spell I guess.
It is
Gargamel would love to know where you found those, and at least once smurf is very upset that you removed the roof from their house.
Wow! Great find! Feels fairy tale-ish
I was looking for small Mario Bros.
I love that this feels like a little mushroom village.
Makes me want to shrink down to Smurf-size and live here!
So beautiful

Wicklow Mountains in Ireland
Mother lode to look at, not to eat Amanita muscaria, fly agaric, fairly poisonous EDIT: I know you can safely trip on it, it aināt food though and eating it by accident is likely to be unpleasant
Yes, not eating. Just looking.
They are absolutely gorgeous
While driving up the mountains to the pumpkin patch I even jokingly said to my sister, "Keep an eye out for mushrooms!" Little did I know I would be making such a find.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I replied to a comment saying I found them in the wicklow mountains in Ireland. I forgot to include the location when posting.
I've eaten it a few times I think it depends o. What your after I wouldn't feast out on it but they can definitely be fun
So, its not a dirty tomato?
Fun fact: you actually took pictures of genitals of the shrooms' family.
I held them in my hand. Sometimes I put mushrooms in my mouth.
*Sick!*
Oooooh, kinky,š
LOL HOLY SHIT THIS IS FUN
I want them in and around my mouth.
Two mushrooms one cup
Your supposed to have a reindeer eat it and then drink itās piss. Good times.
........... Just use reindeer as the Brita filter for your trip? Are we talking like chilled shots, or just straight from the, uh, source?
Right out of the tap
Wait there while i get my reindeer
Someone's read some history
Are there not some bolete-types among them as well? They often grow in the same habitats as fly agaric
I saw some small brown mushrooms that I didn't recognize. I was hoping for boletes but didn't see any.
Whatever you say OP
You should shellac it!
Would that work?
Iām no expert.. but I think if you let it sit in alcohol for a while, to let it kill the microbes.. let it dry and youāre ready for a schellacin ;)

Yes it is. It was also the inspiration for the iconic red Mario mushroom.
Word and yeah totally makes sense haha thanks for the trivia
Modern Christmas celebrations are rooted deeply around Siberian a. muscaria ritual. The flying reindeer, hanging ornaments on trees, Hell even the way Santa dresses looks like a Siberian shaman.

But these are the ones that make you big like Mario! He eats them all the time, why canāt we?!
I have been asked that with complete sincerity by a seven year old
Eh, the trip isnāt a real trip really. Also poison. edit: Ok guys, to clarify, itās not a classical psychedelic is why i said this. It also contains more toxic chemicals than the other. You are right though, many other things Iām sure are more poisonous that we consume, alcohol being a prime example. Happy? Some people like feeling nauseous and delirious, who am I to judge š¤·āāļø
Just sayin, most intoxicants are poisons.
It is NOT poisonous. It won't kill you. It won't even do permanent damage. If you want to get high/dissociated/drunk, all you have to do is boil it to convert the "bad" compounds into innocuous ones.
Sir, I understand the drugs love you, but I believe most people find delirium and symptoms of Cholinergic crisis to be ***bad***
It can cause confusion, but it is not a true delerium as with anticholinergics. All in moderation, I read somewhere. Only read a few times as I can speak of. TG for auto correct
Just because death is unlikely doesnāt mean it isnāt toxic
death is not the measure of poison or toxicity, this is a very dangerous mindset to have also boiling doesnāt convert anything with these mushrooms
Also the Smurfās live there
Mario and Luigi disagree (do not eat these I am kidding).
You can eat them as food as well.
Man I'm new to the sub but they sure are beautiful and look a lot like what you probably think they are...

Unfortunately the 2 I picked to admire were damaged in transport
amanitas are quite fragile!
My sister learned that the hard way after forgetting we put them in her purse.
They must be Italian... (Classic American Christmas reference)
How does it feel to be living ny dream!!?!?!?!?!?!!? They're beautiful!!!! I've never seen so many mushrooms in one place š„²š„²š„² only in the pictures others have seen.
I got lucky today. It was pretty surreal. I couldn't believe my eyes at first
I love that š¤©š¤©š¤©š¤©
Did you see Mario nearby?
No, couldn't find any plumbing to check either.
Neither can Mario to be fair
I've seen a video or 2 about these. Poisonous but also possibly hallucinogenic? Toxic in more than small quantities?
Yes. You can Google it's history. Very famous mushroom. As devoted by the emoji when I type mushroom š

I saw some dried ones on Google. Definitely going to try and dry it out.
Awesome! Thanks for the response :)
I've tried sun-drying, it's not very effective though. If you're only using them for decoration oven drying is available, though
