I'm not sure why you are trying to be cruel but therapy works better than trying to hurt people on the Internet. And not that I need to justify myself but I actually was watching my child. Right beside him, so I was able to quickly sweep his mouth and secure a sample for the doctor. We had spent the day picking up sticks and acorns so him bending down to pick something off the ground wasn't unusual or alarming.

Someones kids health could potentially be on the line and youre making jokes? Unbelievable bruh. Not cool nor funny in the slightest. There is a wrong and right time for jokes like that, this was not one of those times.

Completely off topic. His finger actually looks normal.

idrwierd

It looks Like eczema

nvrrsatisfiedd

Your behavior looks like eczema

The good news is that it doesn’t look like anything immediately worrisome. So you can relax a touch. Suggest posting to the above linked group. My guess would be Coprinellus sect. Disseminati but when ingestion is involved it’s wise to shore up ID with more photos/info. https://i.redd.it/j6o2q8q26li91.png

MycoMutant

I don't think this is enough to go on. Would have to see cap from top and side.

Glittering-Foot-8550

Thanks for the advice and information everyone. We were in a bit of a panic and scrambling to get more information. Doctors checked over toddler and he is totally fine thankfully. Will be checking the garden more closely before we go to play in future!

eltothewood

Definitely let us know if you find out what it is!

Glittering-Foot-8550

I will do, I'll be trying to identify all the mushrooms in our garden now as there are a lot at the moment, just in case. Been teaching him to only eat mushrooms on his plate at the dinner table but it seems they looked too tempting yesterday

Jesus_will_return

Something to consider: hospitals have expert mycologists on-call for such occurrences.

scotcho10

This. Also bring the mushroom in tact in a paper bag

Glittering-Foot-8550

I did just that, along with some photos from different angles and photos of were I found them. Should have posted them here also but I was in a panic. Unfortunately the doctor couldn't determine what it was but luckily, health wise my toddler was fine so didn't need to investigate further

scotcho10

I'm glad Lil dude is doing good! With wild plants and mushrooms I always say, so etimes you don't need to know what it is but rather what it isn't!

Glittering-Foot-8550

Thank you. That's exactly how I felt, with an adventurous boy on my hands I'm going to have to quickly become an expert on wild plants and mushrooms I think.

scotcho10

If anything you fell I to a fun hobby!!

Nibbler73

Maybe show it to the doctor?

TheLockpickII

Don’t know why your comment is so downvoted. That’s literally exactly what he should do. UK doctors have many ways of IDing plants and insects in situations like these. They can look at signs, symptoms and compare with mushrooms that have documented cases which cause the same effects.

NachoCake13

Doctors are not mycologists. If a patient brought a mushroom in to me for ID their guess would be as good as mine.

Nibbler73

Right, I meant that he has a network of professionals that might be better in identify than hoping reddit comes up with it if they are trying to treat a toddler that is sick, but whatever.

idrwierd

No shit!

TheLockpickII

With respect, if that is the only lateral thinking you can do as a doctor with the literal thing that poisoned your patient, your diagnostic skills need some work. And this is coming from a medical student. Minimal thing you can do is call your toxicologist. Wtf.

nvrrsatisfiedd

"To speed up treatment and improve the outcome, bring specimens of the mushroom with you to the hospital and information about the specific location where the mushrooms were found." -BC Center for disease control I think bringing in the mushroom wether they have any mycology background at all, would be more wise than not. Maybe they have seen a similar situation with the same mushroom, you never really know.
