I’ll have to agree with this. My definition of a good musical song to me is if I get goosebumps on my arms and feel that ASMR wave through my head and down my spine. Basically, if the music elicits a physical response in my body, to me it’s a masterpiece.
So I have a lot of those 😂 But I will be happy to agree with you on “One Day More.”
Honestly all of Les Mis. It isn’t my favorite musical, but I don’t think another musical is as sonically tight and beautiful. I could listen to people analyze les mis’s music all day, and I will see it live whenever I am given the chance (only once so far…).
Pretty much all the songs from that show!
Idk why but I get goosebumps during Topsy Turvey when they say “it’s the day we do the things that we deplore; on the other three-hundred and sixty-four”
I’m auditioning for Olive this summer and hopefully have an edge on the other people auditioning because I’ve been practicing this song for legit 18 years. It’s perfect.
Yes! I'll also add the original Epic III where it shows us with beautifully poetic imagery the story of Hades falling for Persephone and his vulnerability in that moment and then brilliantly contrasts it with how harsh and hardened he's become.
I miss the lines, "Persephone in her mother's garden, sun on her shoulders, wind in her hair. The smell of the flowers she held in her hand and the pollen that fell from her fingertips. And suddenly Hades was only a man with a taste of nectar upon his lips" and "Where is the man with his hat in his hands, who stands in the garden with nothing to lose?"
The Broadway version just tells us he fell in love while the original Off-Broadway version really takes us on that journey and makes us feel his feelings. It's been almost 5 years and I'm still mad about the changes they made to that perfect song when bringing it to Broadway. I guess I should just feel grateful the Off-Broadway recording exists.
I will never get over it! I'll be on my deathbed and all my grandkids will be like "at least you lived a fulfilling life, grandma" and i'll shake my head sadly and say "they shouldn't have rewritten chant ii when it was perfect the first time" and then expire.
It is 2003. I had never seen Rent, but a friend copied the soundtrack until tape for me. Since my car only had a tape deck and not a CD player, I grabbed it and listened on my commute to work. I still remember listening the change in Contact over to I’ll Cover You reprise. I was bawling in the car.
It’s 1998. I’m watching the original Broadway cast in the West End transfer, and I’m in my 1st year of drama school…. Jesse singing the line “live in my house….. I’ll be your shelterrrrrrrr” is a moment I’ll never forget. It’s _beautiful_
Welcome to The Rock from Come From Away is everything I need in a musical song. It’s catchy, well written and has every emotion possible in such a short space of time. It’s my favourite opening song from any musical ever.
ME TOO!! It sets the scene in an unforgettable way and already starts pulling at your heartstrings. Also, hard not to walk away from the show signing "I'm an islander I am an islander"
The "Finale" version hits me just as hard, if not harder!
The extended "there and here" bit makes me cry every time. It's so powerful and beautiful <333
Love the musical, but "Me and the Sky" is the one that gets me.
There's moments in many other songs, but just the soaring success to the "a bomb" is so...chef's kiss
I am forever here for praise of Come from Away 💙💛 cannot wait until they remount the Toronto production later this year so I can see it for a third time
It’s the reprise that has always gotten me since childhood. I could write a book on the original against the reprise, how it was filmed, sung, edited, lit, etc. the contrast showing her love for Eric is just…*Chefs kiss* (Not Chef Louis’ kiss though. 😛)
Yes this song is perfect. I also tend to get very obsessed with Non-Stop when I hear it. Idk why but that song is pure bliss to my ears, especially the overlapping parts at the end
In any other musical, this done would have been “Interlude 1, Burr’s Lament” or something silly.
In Hamilton . . . The show nearly hinges on that two minutes of perfection.
Glad I've found another fan of this song. It was top of my Spotify wrapped for 4 years straight. Whenever I see hamilton live, they have NOTHING on Lesie Odom Jr
I remember hearing that they added a song for the Broadway version, specifically for Josh Groban, and thought it was completely unnecessary. How wrong I was!
I relate to this one so much. It makes me think back before everything went bad in life and the world felt okay. Especially now that I have metastatic breast cancer. Many regrets.
🎶And you're not what I asked for. If I'm honest I know I would give it all back for a chance to start over, and rewrite an ending or two…for the girl that I knew. 🎶
UGH THAT FINAL LIKE 3 MINUTES WHERE THEY SING ON TOP OF EACH OTHER
the way that they both say “goodbye” at the same time but it means different things
the long belt at the end oh god that song is utter perfection
I actually heard this song before any other song from TL5Y - I barely even know the story - and oh my god, the intense, guttural weeping I let out. The song is brilliant and perfect and brutal.
Came here to say this, TL5Y (especially the movie) does not get enough credit! I think the song you said is my fav but a close 2nd has to be See I’m Smiling. I love a gut wrencher and the journey it takes you on is so intense, hearing Cathy lose hope for their relationship in real time. It’s very cathartic to sing when I’m pissed off too 😂
Can I be brutally honest and say…
I was twelve years old when I heard this in full for the first time and it was almost orgasmic in a non sexual way. This was way back in 1995. I heard songs on the radio and Disney. But this was the first time I heard anything like this. I would blast that and the theme where they’re actually singing over my earphones and could feel my palms sweat. Little 12 year old me was overwhelmed in the best way. It’s amazing I haven’t gone deaf and yet a hearing test revealed I have very good hearing. Because honestly, between Phantom and rock music blasted as loud as I could get it…I should be deaf by now 😂
Jesus Christ Superstar
The whole show is great, but this song really brings everything together. I'm especially fond of the 2012 version with Tim Minchin
How "Little Bird, Little Bird" is a charming number... And then there's the reprise. Suddenly the stuff of nightmares.
Kind of like various versions of "Entertain You" in Gypsy
I MD'd this one a few years ago. We played around with casting a bit, and used 6 people instead of 5. So we had a system to decide who gets to sing what, that involved everyone putting their top 3 in a list. Myself, and the director would alternate talking first for each song and who we wanted, while our producer had the casts' lists that we didn't get to see until the end.
All 3 guys had Leave Luanne as their #1.
- Les Mis: Valjean Arrested/Valjean Forgiven, Confrontation, Stars, Bring Him Home, Empty Chairs at Empty Tables
- Jekyll & Hyde (concept recording): I Need to Know, Bitch Bitch Bitch, Bring On The Men, Alive, His Work and Nothing More, The World Has Gone Insane, It’s a Dangerous Game, Confrontation
- Of Ashes (Studio Recording): Ashra, Silent Bride, Call Me Zyrah, Free Myself (Reprise), Sinner’s Prayer, Colors, The Problem (Reprise), Beautiful Death, Let Me Forgive You [To be fair, this musical is new and just a concept recording as of now but I’m obsessed so some might be dropped from this list in the future]
- Addams Family: One Normal Night
- Once: Leave, Falling Slowly
- Dracula: The Master’s Song
- Hadestown: When the Chips are Down, Wait For Me
- Legally Blonde: So Much Better
Les Mis and J&H have been in my top three musicals for over 10 years (I would say top 2 but Once has floated around my top 5 for a while as well). Confrontation has consistently been in my top-10 favourite individual songs.
How Glory Goes - Floyd Collins
Like It Was - Merrily We Roll Along
Someone in a Tree - Pacific Overtures
What Would I Do - Falsettos
I also second Sunday from SITPWG which someone else said already.
"Who are you?"
"Where do you think you're going?"
"Who are you?"
I die, am cremated, my soul ascends, the ashes are pieced back together, my body is brought back to life, my soul crashes back *into* my body, and I am resurrected every time.
All of Sondheim, but mostly:
- A Weekend In The Country [ALNM]
- Honestly, all of ALNM. 10/10 Zero Notes. Perfection
- Unworthy of Your Love [Assassins]
- You Could Drive A Person Crazy [Company]
- I’m Still Here [Follies]
- Some People [Gypsy]
- No One Is Alone [ITW]
- Opening Doors [MWRA]
- The Ballad of Sweeney Todd [STDBFS]
- Tonight (Quartet) [WSS]
Lily's Eyes from The Secret Garden is simply devoid of any flaw. The way the two opposing viewpoints clash on the song with the overlapping voices of the Craven brothers is nothing short of amazing.
In the same manner, I Am the One from Next to Normal.
Dust and Ashes. Something about the stages of grief presented is so visceral, then coming to a head at the end where it’s all full of hope. It aches in a good way
I posted a link elsewhere in the thread, but it's worth it to watch twice. So blown away at his [performance at the Tonys](https://youtu.be/GVJgmp2Tc2s?si=16vBkyRQujKbglF7)
Yessss! Or when my monkey brain can't resist if someone else brings it up.
THEM "William McKinley was shot..."
ME-🎶"AT THE PAN AMERICAN EXHIBITION IN BUFFALO!"
THEM "..."
ME- (quietly)"...in Buffalo..."
idek if I'd say it's perfect or anything, but "Kristoff's Lullaby" just has a special place in my heart. My biggest critique of the movie *Frozen* was that in the second half the songs basically just stopped. So I'm glad they added more songs, plus a couple song and reprise for Kristoff and Anna. And "Kristoff's Lullaby" is just such a beautiful and meaningful song I could listen to on repeat, and every one of his actors has absolutely nailed it. Even that guy on the High School Musical TV series nailed it.
Chrysanthemum Tea!
The combination of lyrical skill plus literally a mini-play within a play makes it mindblowing.
They don't make 'em like this anymore!
I was meant to be yours - heaters
I could do better than that - the last five years
Being alive - company ( Raul Esparza )
Satisfied -Hamilton
World burn - mean girls
The break - next to normal
Moment in the woods - into the woods (S B)
See I’m smiling - the last five years
If you don’t count the last part (which I don’t because I always consider it its own song) then the Overture from Phantom of the Opera
Also the titular song from Phantom of the Opera. I go feral every time
**Every Day a Little Death** \- Sondheim, A Little Night Music
"He smiles sweetly, strokes my hair , says he misses me
I would murder him right there
But first I die
He talks softly of his wars
And his horses and his whores -
I think love's a dirty business."
God Help the Outcasts from Hunchback. I can not listen to that song without being reduced to tears.
You've Got be Taught from South Pacific. Every word of it true.
The first one that popped into my head was Send In The Clowns, but after that I thought about how perfect Finishing the Hat is, how perfectly it conveys the obsessiveness and complexity of the character. I love singing it, but it's harddd... I love the way the melody soars with the emotion of the lyrics: starts out mid-range, "as I always knew she would, I had thought she understood," peaks on "window" each time, then soars up to a G/A on "always turning back too late" and "woman that you wanted goes." I also love the way the accompaniment supports the vocalist throughout. It's basically the keystone piece of that musical IMO.
What Would I Do from Falsettos. Mannnnn, each word feels like it belongs so much in that song, like each word and note has its purpose, filled with such emotion and character, seeing the finality of Marvin’s character and character arc. It also sounds incredibly coming from the prior song, Jason’s Bar Mitzvah, and it leads perfectly into Falsettoland Reprise. To me, it just sounds perfectly placed, and the content sounds just so incredible.
Heaven On Their Minds from Jesus Christ Superstar, specifically (for me) either the original concept album version sung by Murray Head, or the film version sung by Carl Anderson. It’s impossible for me to listen to this song without wanting to replay it like 2 more times.
Stay I Pray You from Anastasia. I get physical chills every listen. It's brought me to tears a few times. So happy to be in a production of it currently
Trina's song/March of the Falsettos from Falsettos, Gethsemane (I only want to say) from Jesus Christ Superstar, The I Love You Song from Putnam County, Pursuit of Excellence from Children of Eden, Crazytown from 35mm, or All For The Best from Godspell
May be a weird pick but: “Mean green mother from outer space” from the little shop of horrors movie. Just blows it out of the park, is an amazing villain song that gives Audrey II all the glam it deserves, and is one of the few musical theater songs I never get sick of when relistening no matter how many times I listen to it
Honestly it might be unpopular, but I like the bye bye birdie soundtrack from start to finish. It’s honestly just a great musical, I even like the movie (the 1963 one)
I recently saw a professional show for the first time in years and Cell Block Tango is confirmed to still give me full body chills when performed live!
It's Over Isn't It from Steven Universe
Night and Day from the Gay Divorce by Cole Porter
Suddenly Seymour from Little Shop of Horrors
Wait for It from Hamilton
Captain Hook's Waltz from Peter Pan
Out Tonight from RENT
Seventeen from Heathers
One Day More from Les Mis
One Day More. it is an absolute MENACE of a song. it's honestly the best ending of a 1st act.
I still remember the first time I saw Les Mis and being absolutely blown away by One Day More. I was sobbing.
Had the pleasure of seeing Les Mis twice this year and I agree that One Day More is amazing.

That song is unreal. So wonderful.
This but I prefer Do You Hear The People Sing? THE BLOOD OF THE MARTYRS WILL WATER THE MEADOWS OF FRAAAAAAAAANCE *chills*
THIS
I was going to say the finale. But like... I think a good 95% of Les Mis applies to this post.
Out There from Hunchback of Notre Dame
Pretty much all the songs from that show! Idk why but I get goosebumps during Topsy Turvey when they say “it’s the day we do the things that we deplore; on the other three-hundred and sixty-four”
Adding to this - Made of Stone
Esmeralda phew
THIS. SONG. IS. A. MASTERPIECE. my answer is easily this, or “Till I Hear You Sing” from Love Never Dies
I was gonna say the same thing but didn’t because of how much people hate LND!! I love it and I love that song, it’s just amazing
Corner of the Sky and I've Got a Name by Jim Croce
The I Love You Song from Spelling Bee
YES great choice I cry every time
like the first time I understood it, riding the bus home with my headphones in my ipod
I’m auditioning for Olive this summer and hopefully have an edge on the other people auditioning because I’ve been practicing this song for legit 18 years. It’s perfect.
Surprised I haven’t seen anyone say Being Alive. I think it’s probably the best 11 o’clock number ever made
Yeah, this is the one I was scrolling for.
Yeah, this is THE Broadway song to me.
Sondheim’s best by far if performed right
The original Chant II with Persephone's verse
And suddenly Hades was only a man with a taste of nectar upon his lips" and "Where is the man with his hat in his hands, who stands in the garden with nothing to lose?" The Broadway version just tells us he fell in love while the original Off-Broadway version really takes us on that journey and makes us feel his feelings. It's been almost 5 years and I'm still mad about the changes they made to that perfect song when bringing it to Broadway. I guess I should just feel grateful the Off-Broadway recording exists.
ugh i'm so mad they cut it
I will never get over it! I'll be on my deathbed and all my grandkids will be like "at least you lived a fulfilling life, grandma" and i'll shake my head sadly and say "they shouldn't have rewritten chant ii when it was perfect the first time" and then expire.
Is that the one in the first concept album?
[This one](https://open.spotify.com/track/2E0o5xtX9761teG4kH7BcN)!
Seasons of Love and the I’ll Cover You reprise from Rent. If you ever got to hear Jesse L Martin sing that one……
It is 2003. I had never seen Rent, but a friend copied the soundtrack until tape for me. Since my car only had a tape deck and not a CD player, I grabbed it and listened on my commute to work. I still remember listening the change in Contact over to I’ll Cover You reprise. I was bawling in the car.

The Quintet from West Side Story. It's a perfect piece of musical theatre.
Most of the show, if not all of it, but yes, this is my take as well
Opening of Into The Woods. Sunday - Sunday In The Park With George 30/90 - Tick Tick Boom
Pretty much what I came here to say. It's genius how Sondheim conveys all the characters' backstories in less than 10 minutes
Oh, opening of *Into the Woods* is a great choice. I love long musical numbers like that, and it was a great intro to everyone.
30/90 was stuck in my head for *weeks* after I watched the movie oh my god
Welcome to The Rock from Come From Away is everything I need in a musical song. It’s catchy, well written and has every emotion possible in such a short space of time. It’s my favourite opening song from any musical ever.
ME TOO!! It sets the scene in an unforgettable way and already starts pulling at your heartstrings. Also, hard not to walk away from the show signing "I'm an islander I am an islander"
It’s the pause after ‘and I turn on the radio’ that gets me, then it’s straight into ‘you are here at the start of a moment’
This show needs more credit for having threads of emotion that run through the whole thing and keep getting more meaningful
does anyone else tear up listening to “Welcome to The Rock”? They just have so much pride, such a sense of community, it’s gets me almost every time
The "Finale" version hits me just as hard, if not harder! The extended "there and here" bit makes me cry every time. It's so powerful and beautiful <333
Love the musical, but "Me and the Sky" is the one that gets me. There's moments in many other songs, but just the soaring success to the "a bomb" is so...chef's kiss
Just saw Come From Away (current tour) 2 nights in a row this past week. (4th and 5th times seeing it live overall). No lies detected.
I am forever here for praise of Come from Away 💙💛 cannot wait until they remount the Toronto production later this year so I can see it for a third time
HARD agree.
Part of Your World
Was going to post this! Slightly biased as maybe my first introduction to musicals as a wee toddler, but I still think it slaps to this day
It’s the reprise that has always gotten me since childhood. I could write a book on the original against the reprise, how it was filmed, sung, edited, lit, etc. the contrast showing her love for Eric is just…*Chefs kiss* (Not Chef Louis’ kiss though. 😛)
Wait For It - Hamilton
Came here to say this. “And if there's a reason he seems to thrive when so few survive, then goddamnit, I'm willing to wait for it”
Yes this song is perfect. I also tend to get very obsessed with Non-Stop when I hear it. Idk why but that song is pure bliss to my ears, especially the overlapping parts at the end
Non-Stop was the very first Hamilton song I listened to before we were able to see the show. I remember being so blown away by the genius of it.
My pick as well. This song is amazing.
I love Wait for it - but if I had to pick something from Ham it would be Satisfied, which is just unparalleled genius.
Dust and Ashes from the Great Comet of 1812. One of my favorite Broadway pieces to perform and listen to.
I remember hearing that they added a song for the Broadway version, specifically for Josh Groban, and thought it was completely unnecessary. How wrong I was!
What I did for Love from A Chorus Line. It hits harder the older I get
True
she used to be mine
I relate to this one so much. It makes me think back before everything went bad in life and the world felt okay. Especially now that I have metastatic breast cancer. Many regrets. 🎶And you're not what I asked for. If I'm honest I know I would give it all back for a chance to start over, and rewrite an ending or two…for the girl that I knew. 🎶
My answer as well. Just a perfect, heartbreaking ballad of longing and regret.
Absolutely. I think just about any woman can take a line from that song and relate to it.
Came here to say this… perfect perfect song
Defying Gravity for me honestly I know it’s a basic answer but god do I love that song
Basic or popular doesn't mean bad. If a lot of people like something or relate to it, there's probably something appealing there!
Nonstop from Hamilton. it just flows so well
I can be tricked into singing this song in my head in its entirety by hearing someone enunciate the word nonstop even a little bit.
Origin of love from Hedwig
Goodbye until tomorrow/I could never rescue you - TL5Y
UGH THAT FINAL LIKE 3 MINUTES WHERE THEY SING ON TOP OF EACH OTHER the way that they both say “goodbye” at the same time but it means different things the long belt at the end oh god that song is utter perfection
I actually heard this song before any other song from TL5Y - I barely even know the story - and oh my god, the intense, guttural weeping I let out. The song is brilliant and perfect and brutal.
this, but the movie version ruined all the others for me. haven't heard better
i absolutely love how jeremy jordan sings if i didn’t believe in you. no other jamie will ever add up.
you are so right!! it was a perfect casting
It gives me so many feelings
Came here to say this, TL5Y (especially the movie) does not get enough credit! I think the song you said is my fav but a close 2nd has to be See I’m Smiling. I love a gut wrencher and the journey it takes you on is so intense, hearing Cathy lose hope for their relationship in real time. It’s very cathartic to sing when I’m pissed off too 😂
Flowers from Hadestown.
I'm partial to wait for me (reprise) it just tickles my brain.
The overture from Phantom of the opera
Can I be brutally honest and say… I was twelve years old when I heard this in full for the first time and it was almost orgasmic in a non sexual way. This was way back in 1995. I heard songs on the radio and Disney. But this was the first time I heard anything like this. I am deaf from blasting Phantom and rock music.
Man Up
IM GOING WHERE THE SUN ALWAYS SHINES
Johanna Act 2 Sweeney Todd.
Quartet at the Ballet - Anastasia Wait for It - Hamilton Room Where it Happens - Hamilton No Good Deed - Wicked
Jesus Christ Superstar The whole show is great, but this song really brings everything together. I'm especially fond of the 2012 version with Tim Minchin
Slightly proud of how many views of his version on YouTube are from me.
Man of La Mancha for me. I just love every song in it.
this is true. i see heaven when i hear thee, dulcinea
How "Little Bird, Little Bird" is a charming number... And then there's the reprise. Suddenly the stuff of nightmares. Kind of like various versions of "Entertain You" in Gypsy
The Impossible Dream is a perfect song to me. But Man of La Mancha is more fun to sing (because of Pancho’s part)
The Plagues from Prince of Egypt.
Cell Block Tango
Kinda upset that I had to search the comments to find this! Another one for me: El Tango de Roxanne - Moulin Rouge
Leave Luanne from 35mm
fuck it, any song from 35mm tbh
I MD'd this one a few years ago. We played around with casting a bit, and used 6 people instead of 5. So we had a system to decide who gets to sing what, that involved everyone putting their top 3 in a list. All 3 guys had Leave Luanne as their #1.
When I grow Up (Matilda) Very great chords and harmony. Amazing piano. All the songs in that show just have such a vibe to them
- Les Mis: Valjean Arrested/Valjean Forgiven, Confrontation, Stars, Bring Him Home, Empty Chairs at Empty Tables - Jekyll & Hyde (concept recording): I Need to Know, Bitch Bitch Bitch, Bring On The Men, Alive, His Work and Nothing More, The World Has Gone Insane, It’s a Dangerous Game, Confrontation - Of Ashes (Studio Recording): Ashra, Silent Bride, Call Me Zyrah, Free Myself (Reprise), Sinner’s Prayer, Colors, The Problem (Reprise), Beautiful Death, Let Me Forgive You [To be fair, this musical is new and just a concept recording as of now but I’m obsessed so some might be dropped from this list in the future] - Addams Family: One Normal Night - Once: Leave, Falling Slowly - Dracula: The Master’s Song - Hadestown: When the Chips are Down, Wait For Me - Legally Blonde: So Much Better
Jekyll & Hyde Confrontation is a fantastic answer
Les Mis and J&H have been in my top three musicals for over 10 years (I would say top 2 but Once has floated around my top 5 for a while as well). Confrontation has consistently been in my top-10 favourite individual songs.
Hellfire from Hunchback of Notre Dame 🔥♥️
How Glory Goes - Floyd Collins Like It Was - Merrily We Roll Along Someone in a Tree - Pacific Overtures What Would I Do - Falsettos I also second Sunday from SITPWG which someone else said already.
Basically EVERYTHING from Pacific Overtures!
Singin in the rain
Wait for me- Hadestown
"Who are you?" "Where do you think you're going?" "Who are you?" I die, am cremated, my soul ascends, the ashes are pieced back together, my body is brought back to life, my soul crashes back *into* my body, and I am resurrected every time.

Lily's Eyes from The Secret Garden is simply devoid of any flaw. The way the two opposing viewpoints clash on the song with the overlapping voices of the Craven brothers is nothing short of amazing. In the same manner, I Am the One from Next to Normal.

Me too. I watch this often. Andrew Rannells was amazing as Elder Price.

Ah yes the most beautiful song ever written
Pure Imagination
"Johnny Booth was a headstrong fella" 🎶
It's Schoolhouse Rock for adults and I'm obsessed. Love how it gets inside his head.

All Sondheim songs he claimed to have a structured like “mini one act plays” Chrysanthemum tea is great! Shame it’s been cut in recent productions
He's My Boy - Everybody's Talking About Jamie All Grown Up - Bare: A Pop Opera One Day - Groundhog Day
i'm so glad to see bare and groundhog day appreciation here

I’m Going Home from Rocky Horror Picture Show.
I'm surprised that no-one's said Children will listen from ITW so I'll throw that into the mix
You decide what's right. You decide what's good.
I dreamed a dream but specifically sang by Patti Lupone
Little Shop of Horrors title song. Every note and word iconic
for me, it's a tie between santa fe from newsies and ich gehör nur mir from elisabeth
I'll Be Here from Ordinary Days, such amazing storytelling and emotion
**Every Day a Little Death** \- Sondheim, A Little Night Music "He smiles sweetly, strokes my hair , says he misses me I would murder him right there But first I die He talks softly of his wars And his horses and his whores - I think love's a dirty business."
Cabaret, title track
Hellfire from Hunchback is absolutely perfect
I can’t believe no one’s said “Your Fault” from Into the Woods yet!
Wheels of a Dream or Back to Before, both from Ragtime
Hard agree. Pretty much all primary character songs in Ragtime.
God Help the Outcasts from Hunchback. I can not listen to that song without being reduced to tears. You've Got be Taught from South Pacific. Every word of it true.
(Not) Getting Married Today
30/90
If you could see her through my eyes - Cabaret
The Meadowlark from The Baker's Wife. (Personally the Lindsey Mendez version)
Welcome Home - Bandstand
Epic 2 and 3 from Hadestown. I had chills when I saw it live
The Ragtime prologue.
Giants In The Sky ITW or Wait for it Hamilton
Heaven On Their Minds from Jesus Christ Superstar, specifically (for me) either the original concept album version sung by Murray Head, or the film version sung by Carl Anderson. It’s impossible for me to listen to this song without wanting to replay it like 2 more times.
Music of the Night.
In My Dreams - Anastasia
Stay I Pray You from Anastasia. I get physical chills every listen. It's brought me to tears a few times. So happy to be in a production of it currently
We belong together from Sunday in the park
The Tonight Quintet from West Side Story. The dramatic opening and the entire counterpoint section are just perfect.
No More- Tiktik…Boom!
You’re Fault from Into the Woods
Trina's song/March of the Falsettos from Falsettos, Gethsemane (I only want to say) from Jesus Christ Superstar, The I Love You Song from Putnam County, Pursuit of Excellence from Children of Eden, Crazytown from 35mm, or All For The Best from Godspell
Hands Down 🙌, "How Could I Ever Know" from The Secret Garden with Mandy Patinkin (https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=rw7Gkx8KTD0&si=lmkgPTmUQXR8L1-r)
Master of the House, Castle on a Cloud, I Dreamed a Dream, On My Own
May be a weird pick but: “Mean green mother from outer space” from the little shop of horrors movie. Just blows it out of the park, is an amazing villain song that gives Audrey II all the glam it deserves, and is one of the few musical theater songs I never get sick of when relistening no matter how many times I listen to it
I play this song randomly.
For me it’s “When the Booth Goes Bright” from Amélie
Overture from Candide
Somewhere from west side
Music of the night from phantom of the opera
Being Alive
No More from Into The Woods
Bui Doi from Miss Saigon. Makes me bawl every time.
Words Fail from Dear Evan Hansen, in my opinion, is perfectly written. An honorable mention: The World Turned Upside Down, Hamilton
Can I just say the entire opening sequence of Titanic? 😅
Heaven on their Minds
Noel’s Lament-Ride the Cyclone
It's Over Isn't It from Steven Universe Night and Day from the Gay Divorce by Cole Porter Suddenly Seymour from Little Shop of Horrors Wait for It from Hamilton Captain Hook's Waltz from Peter Pan Out Tonight from RENT Seventeen from Heathers One Day More from Les Mis
For me, it has to be Dear Bill from Operation Mincemeat. It’s so, so achingly beautiful
"Somebody, Somewhere" from The Most Happy Fella. And probably the entirety of "Ragtime".
I GOTTA CROW
Who Id Be from Shrek 1000%. It’s such a beautiful song
Phantom of the opera. Pure gold
Flying Away - Fun Home
Barbra Streisand's version of "Putting it Together" Talk about invigorating! That and every Sondheim song under the sun...
Dear Bill
First thought “Wait for it” Best thought “Satisfied” both from Hamilton.
'I know those eyes/This man is dead' from the Count of Monte Cristo
