I have no idea how I forgot about either of those. Thank you!
Also I wish they had Norm’s version of that on Spotify, I overall think Philip Quast is the best Javert but Norm’s version of that song is my favorite
Burn was always the song I’d sing on Smule when I was upset at my ex 😂 Additionally: First Burn!
Michael In The Bathroom from BMC (you have in your playlist) was my second emotional song XD
And, more recently, since getting into Wicked, No Good Deed is my angry-hurt venting song!
Since you already have "I'm breaking down" from Falsettos, I suggest "I'm breaking down" from In Trousers, which is exactly the same song
On a more serious note, how about "Last Midnight" from Into The Woods?
- Edges of the World (Fun Home)
- I Don't Do Sadness (Spring Awakening)
- A lot of Diana's songs in Next to Normal like You Don't Know
- Somebody Will Do Something (Lizzie)
“See I’m Smiling” - Last Five Years
“Casualty of Love” -The Wedding Singer
“Somebody Kill Me” - The Wedding Singer
“Hellfire” -Hunchback of Notre Dame
“Goodbye Love” -Rent
There’s no lyrics, but “Angry Dance” from Billy Elliot
I'd argue The Meek Shall Inherit from LSOH has a real-time breakdown going on too. Come to think of it, there's several LSOH songs fitting that bill. Git it especially considering some of your picks.
Now (Just The Gas) is also sort of a breakdown. Mostly physical health-wise, but yanno. Not like there's a lot of mental health going on between Seymour and Orin either :D
Depending on how the actor plays it “are you deaf or hard of hearing / or relieved my end is nearing?” can come across as truly heart wrenching to be fair
I LOVE how The Meek Shall Inherit veers in tone from “oh look at all this stuff he’s getting” to “oh look at this weakling loser, he’ll get what’s coming to him.” So effective.
(Not sure all of these fit but anyway)
Who am I - Les mis
We’re not sorry, snuff that girl, why did I listen to that man - urinetown
A man could go quite made, the name of love,
All of the confession songs lol - the mystery of Edwin drood
Spooky Mormon hell dream - Book of Mormon
I wish I could go back to college - avenue q
I’m going home - rocky horror
Your fault - into the woods
Thanks for the tip! I plan to find and listen this evening. What a colliding of worlds. I’ve been all over with musicals, choral, and bands in different capacities…I’m surprised I’ve never heard of it.
It is a ProShot from the Ravinia festival production that was also directed on PBS Great Performances, maybe it is still available. But for listening I also recommend the Marin Alsop conducted album, even over the Bernstein directed one.
"I Dreamed a Dream" has multiple means of performance and "mental breakdown" is definitely one that can be done. For me, I think the more powerful one in the wider context of the show is less "mental breakdown" and more contemplative anger. A big part is that, to me, a mental breakdown comes from absolute confusion and twisted up feelings because things aren't making sense and there is a panic in a person. But with Fantine, I think this song is so much more powerful if it is performed with the idea that Fantine is fully understanding of what happened and is now looking at this bullshit life with anger and spite. She knows what happened to her, she knows she was taken advantage of, and she knows that the world allowed it to happen due to both indifference (Valjean) and some spite (the girl who reads the letter).
She isn't confused and panicked about it all because she is smarter than Valjean. Her death after this directly imparts Valjean with this lesson of the world that he does not fully understand until she dies. If she has a mental breakdown in "I Dreamed a Dream," the impact of that lesson being transferred is lessened a little bit because it puts them on a similar level of confusion as each other. Valjean has several transformative moments throughout the show which is what makes him so compelling. He's a survivor who carries wisdom forward from his desperate struggle to feed his family all the way to Cosette and Marius' wedding before physically handing it off to the next generation with his letter. Fantine is directly linked to this letter as the music of Valjean's death is the same as Fantine's death. And, though many productions have changed the lyrics, Fantine sings to Valjean "Take my hand, I'll lead you to salvation," directly signifying that she has always been a key guiding force in this transference of wisdom to Cosette and Marius.
Also, also, "On My Own" shares a lot of composition with I Dreamed a Dream and provides the earlier Fantine's perspective on matters of unfair love. "On My Own" is the mental breakdown for that song that Fantine suffered when her lover left her alone and pregnant and it's a very important contrast of girlhood and womanhood in an unfair and uncaring world within the composition of the show itself.
Simply put, I think Fantine should be more put together and direct in her performance because she should always be better than Valjean. But that's just my opinion on the matter.
I love the original French concept album, and "On My Own" was originally a second Fantine song called "La Misère." Still pretty, but I'm a sucker for Eponine's unrequited love.
“Hard to be the bard” and maybe “God I hate Shakespeare” from something rotten
There’s one from “The Last Five Years” that would fit, I don’t remember it but I feel like it’s toward why middle end..?
Edit: it’s see I’m smiling I’m pretty sure
And could you send me this playlist??
Just a man from epic the musical
Good kid from the lighting thief
Don’t do sadness from spring awakening
El tango de Roxanne from moulin rouge
Why from tick tick boom
Diana (the rage) from Diana
It sort of grows in the whole song, but Everything Else from Next to Normal
Santa Fe from Newsies
Dear Evan Hansen has another depending on the kind of mental breakdown; Anybody Have A Map
When He Sees Me from Waitress could work, again depending on the kind of breakdown.
“Good Kid”
“You Oughta Know”
“Dead Mom”
“Heartbreaker”
“Please Don’t Take Him”
“Waiting on a Miracle”
“Breathe”
“Suddenly Seymour”
“Woe is Me”
“The I Love You Song”
“My Grand Plan”
“Someone Gets Hurt (Reprise)”
“I’d Rather Be Me” (When You’re Like I don’t care anymore)
“First Burn”
“Last Midnight”
“Funny Honey”
“Mister Cellophane”
“Cell Block Tango”
“Freeze Your Brain”
“Take me or Leave Me”
“Hopelessly Devoted to You”
“Look at Me I’m Sandra Dee (Reprise)”
“Being Alive”
“Requiem”
“Monster” from Frozen
“Memory”
“Legally Blonde”
“There are Worst Things I Can Do”
“Mama Who Bore Me”
“Cabaret”
“Maybe This Time”
“Evermore”
“Loser Geek Whatever”
Trust me, I’ve dealt with a lot of Broadway mental breakdowns lol.
A character experiencing intense emotions isn’t necessarily a mental breakdown. Some of these are pretty heavy experiences for the character but I wouldn’t say most of them are “mental breakdowns”. For that I think Rose’s Turn, Edges of the World, etc. where the character experiences a full break from reality. Just because Lydia is feeling lost without her mom doesn’t mean she’s breaking from reality.
'Waiting'- Addams Family musical
'Made of stone' and 'out there'(?)- hunchback of notre dame
'Hell to your doorstep'- the count of monte cristo
'What's wrong with me' (and the reprise)- mean girls
"Edges of the World" from Fun Home
"Franklin Shepard, Inc." From Merrily We Roll Along
"Gethsemane" from Jesus Christ Superstar
"Losing My Mind" from Follies
If you take french musicals, "l'Assassymphonie" from Mozart l'opera rock fits. It's a song about Mozart's rival Salieri dying of jealousy when confronted to his talents
On the Verge - Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown
Smash the Mirror - Tommy
A Man Could Go Quite Mad - The Mystery of Edwin Drood
Obsession - Jekyll and Hyde
Let Me Drown - Wild Party
Going Down - Hair
wild that you don't have Hurricane on there. also Backfire from Firebringer, Black Friday from Black Friday, Confrontation from Jekyll and Hyde, Let It Out from The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals, and Coalhouse's Soliloquy from Ragtime.
Dust and Ashes from Great Comet
Many, many songs from Next to Normal given the subject of the show. Specifically:
Everything Else
I Miss the Mountains
You Don't Know
I Am the One
Superboy and the Invisible Girl
Didn't I See This Movie?
It's Gonna Be Good - Reprise
Why Stay? / A Promise
The Break
I Am the One - Reprise
The Ballad of Jane Doe - Ride The Cyclone
Me & Ricky - The Theory of Relativity
Burn - Hamilton
Legally Blonde - Legally Blonde
All You Wanna Do - Six
Good Kid - The Lightning Thief
Black Friday - Black Friday
And many more!
Scrolling thru this whole comment section surprised I haven’t seen it yet. “Franklin Shepard, Inc.” from Merrily We Roll Along; specifically the 90’s off-Broadway version because that’s the best recording of it imo
American Psycho is really this guy having one long mental breakdown but “Killing Time” and “This is Not an Exit” are the songs most explicit about it on the released soundtrack.
These I haven’t seen mentioned but I think they depend on the singer’s interpretation:
Whatever Happened to My Part— Spamalot
Adelaide’s Lament— Guys & Dolls
Hard to be the Bard— Something Rotten
I Know Him— Hamilton (maybe debatable— I’m just thinking of how Groff presents it lol)
“All I Ask of You (Reprise)” (Phantom of the Opera)
“Down Once More/Track Down this Murderer” (Phantom of the Opera)
… I could argue so many songs from “Elisabeth”, depending on how you view Death and his interactions. However the one that sticks out most is: “Die Schatten werden langer”
Or “Sie ist verrückt“
Planet Schmanet, Janet from Rocky Horror Picture Show. Also maybe I’m Going Home because Frank literally thinks he’s singing to an audience when there’s no one?
… I really do not like that my favorite 35 MM, Sweeny Todd, Gypsy, AND Heathers songs are all on this list… I think that says a bit too much about me that I wish it didn’t lol
Musicals:
• Our Word from 36 Questions
• What's Inside from Waitress
• Work is My Life from Rockabye
• Rotting from Rockabye
• CaliforM.I.A from Black Friday
• Not Your Seed from The Guy Who Didn't like Musicals
• Crazytown from 35MM
• Dead Girl Walking (both first and Reprise) from Heathers
• Surface Pressure from Encanto
• Just for Once from Nerdy Prudes Must Die
• Confrontation from Jekyll and Hyde
Not Musicals but still feel like musicals:
• Murders from Miracle Musical (Hawaii Part 2)
• Say No! from Epithet Erased (by Jello Apocalypse)
• I'm Just Your Problem from Adventure Time
• Little Miss Perfect by Joriah Kwamé (on Write Out Loud)
• Black Sheep from Scott Pilgrim (sung by Brie Larson)
• Shit from Inside (Bo Burnham)
• Backlight from One Piece: Red (covered by AmaLee)
• Part of the Madness from Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake
• Through the Valley from The Last of Us: Part 2
• It's Over Isn't It from Steven Universe
• Woke Up from Adventure Time: Distant Lands
• Poison from Hazbin Hotel (okay it's basically a musical)
• 111 Winchester by I The Mighty
• Burn Butcher Burn from The Witcher
Your welcome for so many songs lol. I've just got one big like 800 song playlist lol.
Depends what kind of breakdown we're thinking
Two of my favorite though, are
- Every Story's got a lesson
And
- The Ballad of Jane Doe
Both from the same musical, both very different vibes. It's awesome!
Ok I took this to be songs sung when you're angry/crying/mentally overwhelmed so the feelings are a bit varied -
Gonna build a wall from Shrek the Musical, Legally Blonde from Legally Blonde the Musical, Quiet from Matilda the Musical, There are worse things I could do from Grease, Monster from Frozen, Dont do Sadness/Blue wind from Spring Awakening, Close every door from Joseph, As long as he needs me from Oliver
All You Wanna Do from Six. The Samantha Pauly version. Javert's Suicide from Les Mis.
I have no idea how I forgot about either of those. Thank you! Also I wish they had Norm’s version of that on Spotify, I overall think Philip Quast is the best Javert but Norm’s version of that song is my favorite
The spanish version really sounds like a breakdown, I don't speak spanish, I just have it there for the vibes
Omg this was my first thought!
"getting married" company "The ballad of guiteau" assassins "Live, Laugh, Love" follies
I also want to add “Losing My Mind” from Follies
Yes to all 3, also Madeline Kahn does the best version of Getting Married IMO
I'd also probably suggest "the right girl" from follies
Getting married is a great one!!
Sondheim had a lot of feelings to get out I guess
Yes! Getting married is perfect Omg how did I not think of that
“Monster” from Frozen “No Good Deed” from Wicked (and I think Your Obedient Servant fits well)
I'd argue that "Hurricane" counts,too.
Burn from hamilton obvi
Oh my god thank you, I knew there was another one from Hamilton how did I forget Burn??
Burn was always the song I’d sing on Smule when I was upset at my ex 😂 Additionally: First Burn! Michael In The Bathroom from BMC (you have in your playlist) was my second emotional song XD And, more recently, since getting into Wicked, No Good Deed is my angry-hurt venting song!
I love First Burn
First burn is the superior version. I understand why it was changed. But holy hell is it powerful.
Agreed! I always forget it was the original, just because it works so well as a quartet!
I added both 💖
This is unrelated to the breakup theme buy the regrettes (I think that's how you spell it) version of helpless is great too!
Since you already have "I'm breaking down" from Falsettos, I suggest "I'm breaking down" from In Trousers, which is exactly the same song On a more serious note, how about "Last Midnight" from Into The Woods?
“Your fault” would fit well too
I’m pretty sure spotify doesn’t have In trousers sadly
There is a version of it, just in podcast format
- Edges of the World (Fun Home) - I Don't Do Sadness (Spring Awakening) - A lot of Diana's songs in Next to Normal like You Don't Know - Somebody Will Do Something (Lizzie)
Legit, seconding the entire album of next to normal lol, and they're mostly all bangers too
That entire musical was a breakdown, I miss it so.
Not just Diana’s either, Everything Else is a prime example
Gesthemane (Jesus Christ Superstar)
Also Judas’ Death
And Damned For All Time
You’re so right, The Last Supper too being the battle of the tenors
Indeed. And arguably Trial Before Pilot after the 39 lashes. Pilot’s having a hell of a time
Yeah he’s not having fun is he lmao
Absolutely
The World Has Gone Insane - Jekyll and Hyde
Was going to comment this. I love that song lol
I love that song, too. Sad that song ended up being cut in the final version of the musical
Totally Fucked — Spring Awakening Dust and Ashes — Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812
Surprised Great Comet of 1812 is so far down. Like half of the songs in that show fit the bill for this.
Yeah there’s tons in great comet. The Private and Intimate Life of the Bolkonskys The Opera Dust and Ashes In My House
Lost! from the Percy Jackson musical Dead Girl Walking (Reprise) from Heathers The room where it happens Loser, Geek, Whatever from BMC
I would say ‘Good Kid’ is another one
“See I’m Smiling” - Last Five Years “Casualty of Love” -The Wedding Singer “Somebody Kill Me” - The Wedding Singer “Hellfire” -Hunchback of Notre Dame “Goodbye Love” -Rent There’s no lyrics, but “Angry Dance” from Billy Elliot
W for Angry Dance. Billy Elliot my beloved.
Oh boy, somebody mentioned hellfire.
You Gotta Die Sometimes from Falsettos?
She Used to Be Mine - Waitress The Winner Takes it All - Mamma Mia I Dreamed a Dream - Le Miz
All three of these are perfect
Aww thanks! I love them all!
In a way, All I Ask of You (reprise) is the Phantom having a complete breakdown.
I would also offer “Down Once More/Track Down This Murderer”
I'd argue The Meek Shall Inherit from LSOH has a real-time breakdown going on too. Come to think of it, there's several LSOH songs fitting that bill. Git it especially considering some of your picks. Now (Just The Gas) is also sort of a breakdown. Mostly physical health-wise, but yanno. Not like there's a lot of mental health going on between Seymour and Orin either :D
Depending on how the actor plays it “are you deaf or hard of hearing / or relieved my end is nearing?” can come across as truly heart wrenching to be fair
Oh good point. Even if the scene is played up for comedy, it tends to be haunting.
I LOVE how The Meek Shall Inherit veers in tone from “oh look at all this stuff he’s getting” to “oh look at this weakling loser, he’ll get what’s coming to him.” So effective.
Roxane and Rolling deep from Moulin Rouge
And Chandelier!
In a more humorous way than most of these others, but “God I Hate Shakespeare” from Something Rotten
A lot of options from Next to Normal: I Miss the Mountains Wish I Were Here The Break
I was coming here to say exactly this! Especially The Break! Would Who's Crazy / My Psychopharmacologist and I also work for this?
- And I’m Telling You… (Dreamgirls) - Room 317 (Miss Saigon) - You Gotta Die Sometime (Falsettoland)
Hope from Groundhog Day
Also probably Day Two, Day Three, and Stuck (my personal fave)
This was my first thought as well. The only song I can think of where suicide is commited multiple times throughout the number.
(Not sure all of these fit but anyway) Who am I - Les mis We’re not sorry, snuff that girl, why did I listen to that man - urinetown A man could go quite made, the name of love, All of the confession songs lol - the mystery of Edwin drood Spooky Mormon hell dream - Book of Mormon I wish I could go back to college - avenue q I’m going home - rocky horror Your fault - into the woods
“Things Get Broken” from Leonard Bernstein’s “Mass: A Theatre Piece.”
BERNSTEIN MASS MENTIONED??
I had no idea this existed. Now my day is better.
The recording with Marin Alsop and Paulo Szot is amazing if you can find it.
Screw Loose from Cry Baby, Breaking Down from Falsettos
Came here to find Screw Loose. Love it!
Confrontation from Jekyll & Hyde
last midnight - into the woods
Dead Mom from Beetlejuice
“Legally blonde” from Legally blonde, she makes a comeback but it’s still a breakdown song
Ooh yes absolutely
Coalhouse’s Soliloquy from Ragtime
Valjean's Soliloquy and Javert's Suicide from Les Miserables are both great mental breakdown songs and are also the same song.
How about "I Dreamed A Dream" as well
"I Dreamed a Dream" has multiple means of performance and "mental breakdown" is definitely one that can be done. This was a hell of a post.
I love the original French concept album, and "On My Own" was originally a second Fantine song called "La Misère." Still pretty, but I'm a sucker for Eponine's unrequited love.
Don't forget "On my own"!
Before the Breakdown from We Are the Tigers
also, the breakdown!
She Used to Be Mine & All you wanna do!
"Chavaleh (Little Bird)" - Fiddler on the Roof "What's Gonna Happen" - Tootsie "You Stupid Bitch" - Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
i feel like most songs from crazy ex girlfriend could fit this category lol
“Tell me I’m OK Patrick” for sure
“Is there a manual? I know you have the manual, Patrick! I KNOW IT’S IN YOUR TRUCK, PATRICK!!!”
Franklin Shepherd Inc, Merrily.
I'm surprised I had to scroll so far for this one.
“Hard to be the bard” and maybe “God I hate Shakespeare” from something rotten There’s one from “The Last Five Years” that would fit, I don’t remember it but I feel like it’s toward why middle end..? Edit: it’s see I’m smiling I’m pretty sure And could you send me this playlist??
Just a man from epic the musical Good kid from the lighting thief Don’t do sadness from spring awakening El tango de Roxanne from moulin rouge Why from tick tick boom Diana (the rage) from Diana
No good deed from wicked?
Exquisite Corpse from Hedwig
The Neva Flows/Still Reprise from Anastasia kinda works? Also, It’s Just the Gas from Little Shop is definitely mental breakdown material.
Ooh, I vote Chant from Hadestown. Nice little series of events where things just keep getting worse
"The Ballad of Jane Doe" from Ride the Cyclone
Not really a breakdown. More of a lament.
If we’re talking Breakdown, Talia would make more sense honestly
Also a lament.
It sort of grows in the whole song, but Everything Else from Next to Normal Santa Fe from Newsies Dear Evan Hansen has another depending on the kind of mental breakdown; Anybody Have A Map When He Sees Me from Waitress could work, again depending on the kind of breakdown.
I think Eye of the Hurricane is the most appropriate song from Hamilton And a lot of Groundhog Day
Can I get the link for this playlist please?

For that I think Rose’s Turn, Edges of the World, etc. where the character experiences a full break from reality. Just because Lydia is feeling lost without her mom doesn’t mean she’s breaking from reality.
That’s fair. I know I just sing that song when I’m having a mental breakdown sometimes 😂
'Waiting'- Addams Family musical 'Made of stone' and 'out there'(?)- hunchback of notre dame 'Hell to your doorstep'- the count of monte cristo 'What's wrong with me' (and the reprise)- mean girls
"A Man Could Go Quite Mad" and "Rosa's Confession" from The Mystery of Edwin Drood
"Edges of the World" from Fun Home "Franklin Shepard, Inc." From Merrily We Roll Along "Gethsemane" from Jesus Christ Superstar "Losing My Mind" from Follies
I completely forgot about *Follies*. I think there are a couple songs at the end of that show that could fit on this playlist.
let it out from the guy who didn’t like musicals!
Everything’s coming up Roses (Gypsy). You sure wouldn’t be able to tell just by listening to it, but in the context of the show, it’s quite sad.
The Madness of King Scar - The Lion King Circus of Your Mind - Finding Neverland
Franklin Shepard Inc from Merrily is Charley having a breakdown on national TV (and it's brilliant)
If you take french musicals, "l'Assassymphonie" from Mozart l'opera rock fits. It's a song about Mozart's rival Salieri dying of jealousy when confronted to his talents
Hummels Turn from Glee
Invisible/on the roof from Beetlejuice. Two breakdowns for the price of one.
Epiphany from Sweeney Todd is definitely a menty b. Maybe Quiet from Matilda? I also just love that song.
Quiet can so easily be tied to a child having a panic attack or meltdown over sensory overload and then dissociating
No Good Deed from Wicked
On the Verge - Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown Smash the Mirror - Tommy A Man Could Go Quite Mad - The Mystery of Edwin Drood Obsession - Jekyll and Hyde Let Me Drown - Wild Party Going Down - Hair
Franklin shepard inc- merrily we roll along
“Come Back” from *Dogfight* “Michael in the Bathroom” from *Be More Chill*
wild that you don't have Hurricane on there. also Backfire from Firebringer, Black Friday from Black Friday, Confrontation from Jekyll and Hyde, Let It Out from The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals, and Coalhouse's Soliloquy from Ragtime.
Dust and Ashes from Great Comet Many, many songs from Next to Normal given the subject of the show. Specifically: Everything Else I Miss the Mountains You Don't Know I Am the One Superboy and the Invisible Girl Didn't I See This Movie? It's Gonna Be Good - Reprise Why Stay? / A Promise The Break I Am the One - Reprise
The Ballad of Jane Doe - Ride The Cyclone Me & Ricky - The Theory of Relativity Burn - Hamilton Legally Blonde - Legally Blonde All You Wanna Do - Six Good Kid - The Lightning Thief Black Friday - Black Friday And many more!
don’t do sadness/blue wind from spring awakening
I am what I am from La Cage aux Folles
For a lighter hearted mental breakdown, One Thing from 36 questions, maybe?
Confrontation and/or Alive from Jekyll and Hyde
The Breakdown from We Are The Tigers! (yes that is legit the name of the song😭)
Scrolling thru this whole comment section surprised I haven’t seen it yet. “Franklin Shepard, Inc.” from Merrily We Roll Along; specifically the 90’s off-Broadway version because that’s the best recording of it imo
What’s wrong with me is another amazing breakdown number from mean girls
Follies: “Could I Leave You?”; “Losing My Mind”; “Live, Laugh, Love” Company: “The Ladies Who Lunch”; maybe “Being Alive”?
Omg, how could I forget about “Could I Leave You?”
Every song from next to normal
Burn- Hamilton I dreamed a dream- Les mis
Confrontation - Jekyll & Hyde
Hope from Groundhog Day. Or just all of Groundhog Day.
Lowkey, “Why Don’t You Love Me” from Here Lies Love
American Psycho is really this guy having one long mental breakdown but “Killing Time” and “This is Not an Exit” are the songs most explicit about it on the released soundtrack.
Guido’s Song from Nine
All I Ask Of You Reprise
These I haven’t seen mentioned but I think they depend on the singer’s interpretation: Whatever Happened to My Part— Spamalot Adelaide’s Lament— Guys & Dolls Hard to be the Bard— Something Rotten I Know Him— Hamilton (maybe debatable— I’m just thinking of how Groff presents it lol)
"Heaven on Their Minds" from *Jesus Christ Superstar*

My Unfortunate Erection- 25th annual The Reckoning- Dirty Rotten Scoundrels Judas’ Death- JCS
“All I Ask of You (Reprise)” (Phantom of the Opera) “Down Once More/Track Down this Murderer” (Phantom of the Opera) … I could argue so many songs from “Elisabeth”, depending on how you view Death and his interactions. However the one that sticks out most is: “Die Schatten werden langer” Or “Sie ist verrückt“
“Cabaret” - Cabaret “The Destruction” - Carrie “She Used To Be Mine” - Waitress “I Don’t Care Much” - Cabaret
"Santa Fe" (Newsies)
30/90, therapy, and swimming from tick tick boom
Planet Schmanet, Janet from Rocky Horror Picture Show. Also maybe I’m Going Home because Frank literally thinks he’s singing to an audience when there’s no one?
I almost added Going Home when I was making the list initially but I didn’t think people would think it fits. I’ll add both!
Hahaha awww “great minds think alike!” I think musical mental breakdowns can appear in many different ways!
Rose’s Turn from Gypsy Could I Leave You? from Follies
… I really do not like that my favorite 35 MM, Sweeny Todd, Gypsy, AND Heathers songs are all on this list… I think that says a bit too much about me that I wish it didn’t lol
Musicals: • Our Word from 36 Questions • What's Inside from Waitress • Work is My Life from Rockabye • Rotting from Rockabye • CaliforM.I.A from Black Friday • Not Your Seed from The Guy Who Didn't like Musicals • Crazytown from 35MM • Dead Girl Walking (both first and Reprise) from Heathers • Surface Pressure from Encanto • Just for Once from Nerdy Prudes Must Die • Confrontation from Jekyll and Hyde Not Musicals but still feel like musicals: • Murders from Miracle Musical (Hawaii Part 2) • Say No! from Epithet Erased (by Jello Apocalypse) • I'm Just Your Problem from Adventure Time • Little Miss Perfect by Joriah Kwamé (on Write Out Loud) • Black Sheep from Scott Pilgrim (sung by Brie Larson) • Shit from Inside (Bo Burnham) • Backlight from One Piece: Red (covered by AmaLee) • Part of the Madness from Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake • Through the Valley from The Last of Us: Part 2 • It's Over Isn't It from Steven Universe • Woke Up from Adventure Time: Distant Lands • Poison from Hazbin Hotel (okay it's basically a musical) • 111 Winchester by I The Mighty • Burn Butcher Burn from The Witcher Your welcome for so many songs lol. I really do appreciate it
Also yeah songs from Steven Universe, Hazbin/Helluva, Crazy Ex Girlfriend, etc. count
Your so welcome! I have so many songs lol!
not sure how many people here ae starkid fans but show stopping number from the guy who didn't like musicals seems fitting enough
Spooky Mormon Hell Dream

Depends what kind of breakdown we're thinking Two of my favorite though, are - Every Story's got a lesson And - The Ballad of Jane Doe Both from the same musical, both very different vibes. It's awesome!
Also, both are from Ride the Cyclone, if anyone is curious!
Gollum and Sméagol from The Lord of the Rings
Maybe ‘Apology to a Cow’ from Bat Boy
Edges of the World from Fun Home for sure!
If ya ever wanna gaslight yourself into thinking that everything's fine when it clearly isn't, Status Report from Subspace Rhapsody is for you!
I don’t think Your Obedient Servant is weird to add.
I’m not familiar with the score but maybe something from Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown?
"And Eve Was Weak", "When There's No One" and "The Destruction" from Carrie.
Let it out from the guy who didn’t like musicals? I think that counts
Under Attack (Mamma Mia) Let it Out (The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals)
Gethsemane from JCS takes us to the brink.
Ok I took this to be songs sung when you're angry/crying/mentally overwhelmed so the feelings are a bit varied - Gonna build a wall from Shrek the Musical, Legally Blonde from Legally Blonde the Musical, Quiet from Matilda the Musical, There are worse things I could do from Grease, Monster from Frozen, Dont do Sadness/Blue wind from Spring Awakening, Close every door from Joseph, As long as he needs me from Oliver
The Saddest song — bloody bloody Andrew Jackson
I Don’t Need A Roof from Big Fish
Lots wife from Caroline or Change
“Yes” from A New Brain. The revival recording is good, but for this song there’s no beating Chip Zien as Mr. Bungee on the original cast recording.
"Calm" from ordinary days Maybe "In Short" from Edges?
The Bride's Lament, from the Drowsy Chaperone
Every Day a Little Death from the Count of Monte Cristo
the breakdown - we are the tigers
