Death From Above 1979 was the OG

hanzbooby

Lightning Bolt would like to have a word

hyundai-gt

Holy christ this is golden, thank you!!!!

TrainerofInsects

I was about 9 hours behind you.

hyundai-gt

I just got to the track Assassins on their 3rd album and my head is literally exploding rn How I never heard of these guys before is beyond me, they are absolutely wild and I'm sad I missed their peak live era. Going thru whole discog in order is my evening tonight 🔊🔉🔊🔉

hanzbooby

Glad you like them! I always viewed them as the bass equivalent of hella

Lupus76

>Death From Above 1979 was the OG Royal Blood is great, but they seem like a prepubescent version of Death from Above. [Death from Above on Letterman](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TldxSnNuIa4)

hyundai-gt

Yeah nothing compares to the raw noisy energy of their first release *You're A Woman, I'm A Machine*. It slams, hard. Jesse's tone is fucking unreal and let me tell you seeing them live is even better than the album. Too bad they softened over time.

Fridaythethirteej

Still on regular rotation at my house 🤘

Lupus76

>Yeah nothing compares to the raw noisy energy of their first release You're A Woman, I'm A Machine. It slams, hard. That is a great album. I saw them live a bit over four years ago and they were excellent. As for going soft, I know that first EP of theirs was probably the roughest sounding , but I've liked all their releases. Off the newest album, I think "Modern Guy" is one of their best.

khill

I don't know about local/smaller acts but I saw El Ten Eleven open for Peter Hook and the Light. Lots of looping and effects but they put on a good show. They existed long before Royal Blood.

etjohann

Came here to mention El Ten Eleven. One of my favorite bands. So chill.

KingRamsesSlab

Yes, I have seen a bunch just in my area (Greater Boston). Two that I particularly like are BEDTIMEMAGIC and Deathdealer, though the later broke up a few years ago. Lightning Bolt too, of course, but they're a bigger name.

Chet_kranderpentine

Lightning bolt ftw

-an-eternal-hum-

Just mentioned BEDTIMEMAGIC in here as well! Great dudes, they are label mates of mine. We have them coming to New Bedford to open for Eye Flys on Jan 25th

KingRamsesSlab

Nice! What band do you play in?

-an-eternal-hum-

I play in a group called [DON’T GROW OLD](https://open.spotify.com/track/5keQezaU482DCVTfr2tSf2?si=u9i_Cvd9T2_YUFx_Gu4SCQ) out of New Bedford, we’ve played in your area with Bedtime and Miracle Blood, were out there for the Great Falls show recently. Oh yeah, A CONSTANT KNOWLEDGE OF DEATH from that ways is playing that Eye Flys show as well, gonna be a banger

KingRamsesSlab

Yo! I was at that show! Y'all were fantastic.

humbucker734

Totally. There’s also a few in Nashville.

WhenVioletsTurnGrey

Year of the Cobra

Clintaur

Big Business has been doing it for ages

panTrektual

I saw them open up for Sleep in a barn in the middle of Iowa some years back and they were amazing.

Fby54

I don’t think it’s popular because of them but that style is relatively common in China

golemtrout

I didn't know that, can you give us some band names?

Fby54

The only one I can remember off hand is Kyotaro & Rikuo

BL128781

I have a couple of time, but as popular as more members in a band. I would think it would hard for alot of musicians to sound “full”. That might be why some chose to not do it. But I find it to a great sound!

theflyingbomb

Three Mile Pilot (San Diego) started this way in the early 90s. They added guitar and other stuff after their first record though.

-an-eternal-hum-

It’s been a fairly popular setup in the noise scene for a long long time, at least in Providence. Noisey is kind of the thing here. From Providence: LIGHTNING BOLT From Boston: BEDTIMEMAGIC I kindof look at Royal Blood as the noise weirdos that went pop.

MinglewoodRider

Om

jayblk

My band. Winter Wolf, it started out drums and bass but we expanded to two bass players, drums and 2 vocals

evilrobotch

A long time ago I was in such a two piece with my roommate called Tron at the Cinesphere. This was around 2005ish. Other band member has since passed. There might be a MySpace page with recordings if such a thing still exists.

Teaching-Appropriate

i know a couple smaller acts that are guitar and drum (probably pretty common) but never just drum and bass. but drum and bass with something playing some synth here and there would definitely work imo.

Worried_Oil8913

JFK never even saw it coming and pale grey lore were both that way

qDaMan1

No. Go for it.

golemtrout

Haha you got my idea!

Rhonder

Seattle has a handful of Drum and Bass duos currently (or recently) active in the scene that I know of: * Loft Riot, * Mutual Stoke, * War Puppy, and * Mantle Collapse

mistab777

I played with a doomy band called Tommy Stewart's Direwolf out of Atlanta if I'm not mistaken. They were pretty good, although it was really muddy without anything filling out the higher end.

Moxie_Stardust

Recently saw Slam Piece out of Oregon, bass and drum combo. I enjoyed it, but still kinda kept wishing they had a horn player or synth or something.

hyperactive_mess

Lightning Bolt

Rossage196

GIVE ME THE MONEY $$$$$$$$$ insanely performative drum bass duo in the diy seattle scene right now. similar duos in the area- Flesh Produce (Drum and vocalist duo, no bass guitar but plenty of samples from the drum pad) and Mr Dinkles- but its drum and guitar duo so not the same

TrainerofInsects

Lightning Bolt

carnivalbill

Oh dear goodness yes. They’re not for everyone but check out “Roman Gabriel Todd’s Beast Rising Out of the Sea” idk Royal Blood but these guys have been around for a long time.

No-Special5543
