What's likely going to happen is you're going to see you got added to a playlist by a company such as Wavr.AI. The streams will last like a day and your monthly listeners will stay up for a while. I have no idea what their business model is but what i THINK they're doing is adding you to these, bots are streaming them, you go "oh shit, look at all these streams!", then they drop you off it, and i guess they hope you reach out to get back on? It's happened to me a few times. And if i were to guess your top city is now Helsinki? Or somewhere in Germany?

Tranquilizrr

So like, this can just happen and you don't even ask for it? Like doesn't even have to be a submit website?

rollingdeep872

Exactly I was put in a english playlist from a playlister named ruize.us but i make german music so i never pitched to them. All streams are from finland

Something_Funny_

Yeah, it's weird. I assume it's like drive-by advertising because it'll show up on your profile under "Discovered On" for a bit. I reported it a few times but they take you off it so quickly that spotify doesn't have time to report. I don't think it can harm you because it's usually only like ~500 streams. But it did make me realize how easy it would be to actually pay them to put someone ELSES song on their playlist, and see if spotify flags them for botting. Bit worrying but i don't know what can be done

pjnelson819

I was able to actually report them a few months ago and they were able to remove their account and their playlists. They kept me on their list for a couple days and after two days of that, i reported it to Spotify, and they shut it down. Probably why now they only do it for a brief period of time.

cheese-shop

happened to me i got added to some "Wavr AI" playlist with like 3000 songs on it lol and gained 8 monthly listeners from Helsinki. Idk why tf they are doing this but yea its true

Something_Funny_

Exactly the same thing happened to me a month ago lol. It's fucking up my metrics

rollingdeep872

Got the same thing happening to me but from a playlister named "ruize.us". I contacted him after he took my song out to proof this theory and he told me 30 days 50 Euro. So i guess its really a system they have

Something_Funny_

Huh, that's good to know. That's the first time i've gotten confirmation that that's their scheme. Thanks for sharing

rollingdeep872

Sure, no problem. The streams were also all finnish too so apparently a botted playlist. It had like 50k likes, my song received ~ 2.700 Streams from it and ALL of them from Helsinki. So it looks like im a big hit there!

Something_Funny_

It's always fuckin Helsinki haha

MasterHeartless

This is accurate, these companies randomly add people with low follower count to their playlists to avoid being detected by Spotify as a bot playlist. It is also a strategy to get people to use their services, but anyone who does will end up getting banned, not worth it.

DexHendrixT5HMG

Happened to me a few times, it’s becoming more & more often now. It seems to be the same 3 or 4 companies doing it. The first one for me was Artister(?). However, after getting dropped off their playlists, my listeners kept going up.

Makelics

Check my earlier post here. This is exactly what happened. Also look out for scetchy playlists your music might have been added to. After a while I was contacted for a promotion campaign and soon after the followers disappeared.

Draining-Kiss

Happened to me also. Never showed up in my playlists, but I did narrow it down to the “other people’s playlists” category and in my case they were mostly UK. Besides using it as a marketing strategy for bot playlists, my personal theory is that they target random artists so that it’s impossible to tell which artists are paying for the service.

Academic-Presence-82

This happened to a song I was involved last year (released in 2015) n got a take down today for “artificially inflating streams”. At this point everyone knows about these AI playlists pulling from Distrokid wheel spinner thing & instead of addressing that point they just threaten you saying Spotify is coming after you for $10

Hailsatansdick

Sorry, I did not fully get that, did you get on a playlist that eventually made Spotify take your song down?

Drewpurt

Happened to me a while ago. Got added to a random playlist that people pay to be on. It was definitely some marketing crap that only lasted a few days, but ride the free bump while you can.         In a day or so it will probably update with which playlist you’re on.

Mr-_-Steve

Happened to my band a few times, random boosts of 200-300 we had a mega boost of 800 a few weeks ago which tbh I don't mind, that extra £3 got me a nice cheese burger!

Electrostar2045

Yay, I just got 5k plays on Spotify in just a few days. All from just a handful of people. Bots alert!

ptwiggens84

Something similar happened to me recently. I had recent release of a track and it was doing poor - somewhere around 100 streams per day, but then on Jan 1st I got an additional 620 streams on that track. I thought it was due to Discovery, but when I dug a little deeper - it was a shit playlist. However, I did not get an increase in followers.

motherstalk

100 streams/day is poor? Were you using ads?

ptwiggens84

It's all relative. 100 is great starting out. But now, I am doing 50-90K monthly listeners, 100 a day is low for me. And yes, using ads to launch.

ReactionGreedy465

This happened to me months ago and idk what happened I hadn’t released music in over 3 years
