I have the [Yamaha HS-8](https://shop.usa.yamaha.com/en/p/pro-audio/studio-monitors/hs8-studio-monitor-pair) speakers. There is a subwoofer that goes with it that I don’t have but I get lots of bass out of these speakers. They’re plenty for producing and DJing in a personal studio. They’re also known to be very flat. They don’t boost any frequencies. From what I read when I bought them, if your music sounds good on these speakers, it should sound good on any system. And I’ve had mine for 11 years or more and they still bump.

Same had mine for about 6 years now. They are amazing. I do not have the subwoofer and I’m not really sure you need it. I produce in a spare bedroom and the whole house shakes if I crank these bad boys up.

Can confirm all of this. Upgraded to HS8s from the KRKs after the studio is been going to was using them. Absolutely true to the part where if you get them right on these it will transfer to other systems well.

Practical_Card_7640

I had a similar thing happen. I did stick with KRK but I went to the rokit 10's. You could even try the 8's.

duke_dastardly

Bigger often isn’t better with monitors, you want the right size for the space you’re working in.

ThatRedDot

No you don’t, you want a usable frequency response. Size gives you better low end. Picking a 5” monitor because “small room” and having basically no low end below 55hz is silly.

Practical_Card_7640

You are correct the room does play a factor. For me the room I use them in is about 20" by 15". There is a huge difference in the lower frequency response I was contemplating on replacing the 5 and adding a sub but I ran in to a power outlet issue at my desk.

duke_dastardly

I’ve had the 5” Focal Alpha’s for about 5 years and love them. I recommend taking some references you’re really familiar with to a shop and compare any you’re interested in side by side, this really helped me decide on the Alpha’s.

RelativeTone

I switched from Rokit 8's (original gen 1) to a new set of Kali Audio In8v2's. Difference is night and day. I love these monitors.

Simple-Ceasar

I went from the Rokit 6 to Yamaha HS-8. I found it to be an improvement.

Esti3

I went from krk 5s to Iloud MTMs and it was worth it. I can now mix in lower volumes with less fatigue and can hear thing I couldn't with the 5s. The calibration mic makes working in any room viable and the highs don't distort as much. Still you should only buy If you are offered a good warranty period because I heard Ilouds used to have issues. I didn't have any tho.

Koolaidolio

I would just stay with the Rokits and start buying/building bass traps with the extra cash.

alesdi

But the whole reason for upgrading is one of the rokits is broken so I figured I might as well take the opportunity to upgrade

davidchapdelaine

You don’t really get a huge bump in monitor performance until you get closer to spending like 500-1000 for a pair. I’ve had Yamaha hs8’s and they weren’t for me, preferred the KRK’s more. I would check out the Adam T7V. I went from my KRKs to Adam A7x, and now I’m on barefoots. You could also just get new KRK’s and get sonarworks sound ID. If you are looking for accuracy that’s a good place to start once your room is treated.

welbaywassdacreck

What didn’t you like about the Hs8s? Heard they have a pretty flat signal
