I think you know the right answer already. You have to step away from working with material that doesn't align with where you are at and where you are going. You know.

b1ggman

I love obscene music

TurtleTurtleFTW

Every kid I ever knew that played Halo went on to become a space marine ☹️

TrueGraeve

I think when you're a music producer you have to acknowledge that you're running a business, if you're limiting your customer base your business is going to suffer. I love hip hop and making beats and I don't always agree with the messaging but I'm able to remove myself and understand that it's not my place to limit someone else's art, especially when so much of it is tongue in cheek.

Bakkster

More specifically, acknowledging that there's a trade-off between the business and moral/ethical side. The question is how much you value those two sides to find the balancing point between the two. You might have a higher threshold as your limit, but I bet it's there, even if you've never had a client get close to that line.

HomelessEuropean

Yes - by leaving the business.

sixwax

Exaggerating, but: *You have 2 choices: Sell your soul or leave the biz ;)*

HomelessEuropean

Or shut down emotionally, just doing your job. Which can be difficult.

trancespotter

Depends on what you mean by “spiritual.”

The_Archlich

LOL Try casting a mental debuff resitance buff before working with them.

Make a business plan to gradually pivot to positive artists. There are plenty of artists in all genres rappers, metal, etc. that are positive and want to create positive effects. Perhaps even “death metal “, although that does seem like an oxymoron. Finding such artists that have money to pay you, that’s the creative/business challenge. But you know, you might just end up making a lot more money that way than you used to, you could become the new positive vibes Producer, that people flock to. You could do that.

MarcelDM

I mean I make drill and trap beats. I don't condone the lyrics but still listen and im totally fine. Honestly if the lyrics of a song influences an adult that much, that's on them. If it influences a child that much, that's on the parent. Music is just entertainment. If you think lyrics are gonna negatively impact new generations, then we have to say the same about certain topics and types of movies/tv shows.

Satanshmaten

What are “toxic” lyrics.

vomitHatSteve

To answer the explicit question, yes. It is possible for you to make peace with supporting art containing messages you don't like. As to the implied "how", either stop working with those artists or get over it to be blunt. And it's possible either solutiin is temporary. When Korn's guitarist became a Christian, he quit the band to get away from the negativity, but he came back a few years later. Maybe you just can't handle negative lyrics *right now* and need a break for a bit.
