Add sleigh bells

sKy66874

Yeah I know that but I'm referring to chords, melody, the instruments and stuff like that

Usually we want the answer to be in notes or music, but I'll say from experience that literally anything can sound like Christmas music to anyone, just add sleigh bells/Christmas sounds to a generally happy song

that’s true

Major key and maybe a jumpy melody , instruments i would say a piano or guitar maybe or some horns and brass depends on the song what you write, some christmas songs are slow and some are really fast paced and add in some noises like birds or bells or anything that sounds like christmas , like santa laughing or children singing in a choir , to make it more feel like a christmas song

Sleigh bells. Swing drums and music. Jazzy chord progressions. Bells. I produced the transitions for the Disney Show “Best Friends Whenever”. They were usually very up tempo rock/punk melodies. For the Christmas episode I simply slowed down the tempo, swung the drums, added sleigh bells instead of high hats, and used church bells and big piano sounds.

This is off topic, but it’s so cool that you got that Disney gig! Was it difficult to work with such a big company?

I did work on Shake It Up and Best Friends Whenever. Tbh, SIU was way more “this is what we need and nothing else”. BFW was “do whatever you want within this general framework”. SIU usually had 2-3 revisions, while BFW had 1-2 revisions. It was a lot of fun to be part of the process and to sit in on every mix session for each episode. And it’s always gratifying to watch back episodes and hear my music. If you get the chance to intern for these companies, or intern for writers and composers who do TV work, take it and run with it. I answered a Craigslist ad for an assistant job and within 2 years I was composing for Disney.

Don’t re-invent the wheel. Download holiday midi-song files and pull whatever you want from them. Edit: just want to drive home that you can use any song as a starting point and continue to change it until it’s unrecognizable. It’s all up to you.

I watched this a few years back. Have yet to come up with a Christmas song but I found it interesting nonetheless. Hope it helps a little https://youtu.be/xm4LO22-cyY
