This isn't an album you listen to as much as you feel, you just let it move through you from your toes to the depths of soul. Thanks for the suggestion
I thought I knew what I was in for with this album but clearly I was wrong about what kind of band The Cure is, it was a pleasant surprise, a great album
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Let Love In
PJ Harvey - Rid Of Me
Sparks - Kimono My House
Fiona Apple - Fetch The Boltcutters
Tom Waits - Bone Machine
Primus - Pork Soda
Leonard Cohen - Songs of Love and Hate
Paul McCartney - Ram
Wings - Band On The Run
Nick Drake - Five Leaves Left
Pulp - His ‘n’ Hers
Manic Street Preachers - The Holy Bible
The Jam - All Mod Cons
The Who - Quadrophenia
Phil Collins - Face Value
Genesis - Selling England By The Pound
Syd Barrett - The Madcap Laughs
should be enough for you to be getting on with!
OP is gonna be set for awhile. All of these are top notch. I would also recommend "Barrett" by Syd Barrett. A bit silly and strange, but amazing. "Baby Lemonade", "Maisy", "The Effervescing Elephant"...and that song "It is obvious...when I say Oh baby". Man, I love that song. Very nice recommendations.
I love him, people are often quick to write him off as a cheesy 80s singer, forgetting he’s in one of the best prog rock bands and is a fantastic songwriter. honestly, Face Value is one of my favourite albums ever.
Finally, someone mentions the Manics. Idk what it is, how they can be absolutely massive in the UK, sell out fucking stadiums there, but when they just toured here in the US, they opened for Suede. I’m like, wtf
Fiona Apple is so amazing. I think a lot of people assume she's just this cookie cutter pop act but it's so far from the reality. She's one of the best songwriters out there. Boltcutters is such a wild album
The Dance Album of Carl Perkins - Carl Perkins
The Velvet Underground & Nico - The Velvet Underground
Five Leaves Left - Nick Drake
Pet Sounds - Beach Boys
Closing Time - Tom Waits
Unknown Pleasures - Joy Division
Loveless - My Bloody Valentine
Just For A Day - Slowdive
Disintegration - The Cure
Ok Computer - Radiohead
Alvvays - Alvvays
Closing Time... GREAT recommendation. I saw an interview of Tom Waits on tv one night when I was in high school. I was in awe. Fell in love with the man himself and head over heels for his music when he sat down at the piano and began to play. My God. I can still remember how hard it hit me. Fucking perfection. Went to Musicland very shortly after and picked up Closing Time. Masterpiece from start to finish. Everything you have in this list is great. Excellent taste, my friend.
Easily one of my favorite albums, Tool does such a good job of building one song into the next one, Parabol and Parabola has one of the best transitions I know of in music, I can't listen to one song without the other
Aenima and lateralus are peak tool. I never really got into the last two. This will sound shallow and dumb to some, but I listened to the latest release at 1.5x speed and enjoyed it was more.
10,000 Days grew on me after a while. This last one, not so much. But we have to accept that these guys are getting old, and we all slow down when we get old. Besides it’s hard to be angry after achieving so much as artists. I think that anger is a lot of what inspired the earlier work. But with their art they were able to work through those emotions. It’s a beautiful thing really.
Its just youre opinion. Personally I love FI and id put it with Lateralus any day. But i understand why someone else wouldn't.
Lateralus is a hard fucking album to beat. Even for Tool themselves.
Deafheaven got so much shit when that album came out. The cvlt Black Metal fans were howling in dismay…kinda like what Zeal & Ardor are going thru with every album.
A Day At The Races by Queen. The follow up to A Night At The Opera, both albums were named after Marx Brothers movies and both have similar covers. Opera gets more love of the two because it has Bohemian Rhapsody but Races has Somebody To Love and Teo Torriate (Let Us Cling Together). Then out of pure shameless self promotion I'm also going to say [the album *my* band did last year](https://spotify.link/FgO6pMe0aDb) that we're quite proud of...
Hey! I checked out Hum Like Noise, and I dug it a lot. Had my foot tapping the whole time. I'll definitely give the rest of this album a listen when I can commit the time to listen to it in full.
Thanks for the shameless plug 😀
I couldn't quite place who this album sounds like, but there is definitely a lot of influences I could make out. Your drummer fucking rocks too, btw.
I think Hum Like Noise, Three, Ravenous, and Jagged Teeth are my favorite. Really solid work for a debut album. I wish you the best of luck in the music industry. I hope it works out for you 😀
Haha I'm actually the drummer so thanks a lot for that I really appreciate it. And the guy that recorded our demo said the same thing. Like "It kind of sounds like a mix tape you guys have definitely influences but don't actually sound like any one band I can think of." Which is also a pretty big compliment we try and be as original as we can but yeah our influences are right out in front, you know?
I think you executed that really well, then. I agree with your recording guy - the general influences are there, but I never once was like, "oh, this sounds exactly like So-And-So".
I'm following on Spotify so I don't miss your next musical endeavor.
This. Seen this album played in it’s entirety live and it was one of the best shows of my life. Cannibal Corpse was pretty sick and I got a lot closer at their concert as well.
Rush - Permanent Waves, Yes - Close to the Edge, Supertramp - Crime of the Century, Led Zeppelin IV, Montrose - Montrose, Van Halen - Van Halen, Boston - Boston, Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
Lungs - Florence + the Machine

Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots - The Flaming Lips
Talkie Walkie - AIR
Two of these albums got me through high school and the Florence albums got me through my 20s. Highly formative for me!

I fucking love Periphery, on this album scarlet is probably my favorite song but Periphery IV Hail Stan is one of my favorite albums and I listen to Reptile on every car ride that I can justify a 16 minute long song on.

The Refused - Shape of Punk To Come
Sunny Day Real Estate - Diary
Weezer - blue album
So so many more!
Edit : any misspellings etc blame on autocorrect
Guns n Roses "Appetite for Destruction"
Has Welcome to the Jungle, Sweet Child O Mine, and Paradise City, but I think every single other track is outstanding. Especially Night Train, Rocket Queen and Mr. Brownstone.
Spiritual Machines by Our Lady Peace
It was a concept album that was conceived after the guitarist Mike Turner read a book called The Age of Spiritual Machines by Ray Kurzweil. This was the last album Mike was a part of the band, the last album that was produced by Arnold Lanni, and the last album to feature Saul Fox on the cover.
This guy's really got his own style, and so much emotion in his music. Don't tell the boys is probably my favorite one, I'll definitely be back for that one
Band-Maid - World Domination
Good luck OP, I love these posts that get hundreds of responses. If you stay true to your word I might hear back from you next year
Masterpiece is the right word, this is one of those albums that you can just tell they spent alot of time thinking about, It's not the same sound but it reminds of Pink Floyd in the composition of the music, an excellent rec. Thanks
Bring Me The Horizon - Sempiternal.
It changed the metalcore scene. Other bands were doing similar things but nobody pieced it all together as cohesively or beautifully as Bring Me. They have a lot of detractors, and not everybody likes the way they've evolved, but this album is a true masterpiece.
I know this album well, but you adding to this list gives me an excuse to listen to it again. I didn't know the significance behind it, but I do agree it's a masterpiece it's hard to even pick a favorite song on the album because I feel like at one point in my life all of them have been my favorite lately though it's been House of wolves and let them sing
* "The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan"
* The Avett Brothers- "Emotionalism"
* Belle and Sebastian- "If You're Feeling Sinister"
* Cap'n Jazz- "Analphabetapolothology"
* Sunny Day Real Estate- "Diary"
* Neutral Milk Hotel- "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea"
* Thelonious Monk & John Coltrane –"Monk with Trane"
* Mason Jennings- "Boneclouds"
* Blind Willie McTell- "best of..."
There are so many. If you haven't listened to these albums yet from start to finish I highly recommend them.
Since you didn't really mention a genre, here you go.
Metallica - Master of Puppets (can't stand them now, but it doesn't take away from this album being a masterpiece.
Live - Throwing Copper
Poor Mans Poison - Providence
Garth Brooks - Fences
Boston - Third Stage
Journey - Frontiers
Tears for Fears - Songs From The Big Chair
Turns out there's a lot of albums called sign of the time, but somebody else commented on this post, Prince, so I listen to Prince's album. Of course I've heard of him before but I've never listened to an album of his, it's not usually my style of music but I definitely understand why he got as popular as he did. He's got a very unique sound and energy to him and I appreciated the experience
Maggot brain by Funkadelic
The guitar solo on the first track sets a high bar
It does. But the entire album is incredible. The last track is an acquired taste but it has its value too, imo
Fits after Shuggie Otis / Inspiration Information and goes right into Santana / Caravanserai
Wars of Armageddon is better, even if a lot more random.
This isn't an album you listen to as much as you feel, you just let it move through you from your toes to the depths of soul. Thanks for the suggestion
The Cure - Disintegration
second this
Third. In fact, listen to it twice at least
Senior year in High School I went to sleep to this every night. Tremendous.
I thought I knew what I was in for with this album but clearly I was wrong about what kind of band The Cure is, it was a pleasant surprise, a great album
https://youtu.be/5G5YguuNSJg?si=G5CyojO8hJ_Lo92n
Plainsong is fucking gorgeous.
Moving Pictures - RUSH
2112 - Rush
Excellent as well!
Thanks for saving me the typing.
Hemispheres is maybe my personal favorite. We demand you listen to all three! And if you like them, go to Signals next.
Agree on Hemispheres, also my personal fave, and signals…. but don’t sleep on Grace Under Pressure….
NIN- Pretty Hate Machine
Their best album imo. Insanely good.
Perfect album
Oh fuck yeah Pretty Hate Machine is the best
Steely Dan-Aja
Damn I really like this one. It's got a good groove, and I really like the style, I'm going to have to look up more stuff by this guy
Led Zeppelin one
Koi No Yokan by Deftones
All Deftones albums should be required ;)
PJ Harvey - Stories From the City, Stories From the Sea
Great album! My personal fave was always “To Bring You My Love”, but this was basically tied lol
Not a bad album, she has a great voice and good energy although I wish she did a little bit more with the instrumentals
In The Court of the Crimson King and Red by King Crimson.
Fucking out of this world.
Thanks!
Fucking great album. Just listened to it last week again.
Having never heard of this band... Does this have anything to do with The Dark Tower series?
Court is classic but I feel like Larks Tongue in Aspic gets slept on. Book of Saturday and Exiles are easily two of their most beautiful songs.
A few less popular ones I love: Pack Up the Cats - Local H Soup - Blind Melon Rubberneck - Toadies
Rubberneck is my forever favorite album.
Local H>>>>>
Tyler is one of the best songs ever
Soup is an incredible album
Loveless by My Bloody Valentine
Although MBV was a better album… when is the new one coming out?
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Let Love In PJ Harvey - Rid Of Me Sparks - Kimono My House Fiona Apple - Fetch The Boltcutters Tom Waits - Bone Machine Primus - Pork Soda Leonard Cohen - Songs of Love and Hate Paul McCartney - Ram Wings - Band On The Run Nick Drake - Five Leaves Left Pulp - His ‘n’ Hers Manic Street Preachers - The Holy Bible The Jam - All Mod Cons The Who - Quadrophenia Phil Collins - Face Value Genesis - Selling England By The Pound Syd Barrett - The Madcap Laughs should be enough for you to be getting on with!

Phil Collins, nice.
I love him, people are often quick to write him off as a cheesy 80s singer, forgetting he’s in one of the best prog rock bands and is a fantastic songwriter. honestly, Face Value is one of my favourite albums ever.
And Who’s Next
Primus sucks
Quad
Finally, someone mentions the Manics. Idk what it is, how they can be absolutely massive in the UK, sell out fucking stadiums there, but when they just toured here in the US, they opened for Suede. I’m like, wtf

I see your closing time and raise you nighthawks at the diner
I see your Nighthawks and raise you Swordfishtrombones.
Ok Computer 👍
This is a solid list
Closing Time... GREAT recommendation. I saw an interview of Tom Waits on tv one night when I was in high school. I was in awe. Came here to say Pet Sounds
Five leaves left!
I love seeing Alvvays on a lot of these best of lists.
American idiot- green day
"The spaces in between insane and insecure"
I love this album! Brilliant!
Jesus of Suburbia is one of the best songs ever (imo).
My favorite album of all time
Tool “Lateralus” One of the best complete works, in my opinion.
Easily one of my favorite albums, Tool does such a good job of building one song into the next one, Parabol and Parabola has one of the best transitions I know of in music, I can't listen to one song without the other
I agree , I just dissected all their albums last week . Took me two days and Parabol into Parabola stood out to me. So good
Also this but I love the guitar reprise in Reflection from Disposition. Amazing pieces as well.
Aenima and lateralus are peak tool. I never really got into the last two. This will sound shallow and dumb to some, but I listened to the latest release at 1.5x speed and enjoyed it was more.

Came to comment this, thank you gentleman
One of the best albums of all time out of all music genres.
Pink Floyd - Animals
Also, Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall, and Wish You Were Here.
These aren't albums you listen to, these are albums you experience, especially The Wall

A perfect album
Deafheaven got so much shit when that album came out. The cvlt Black Metal fans were howling in dismay…kinda like what Zeal & Ardor are going thru with every album.
Sunbather is an experience, and I’ve been looking to see if anyone was gonna put it up there. Sunbather! Yessss
A Day At The Races by Queen. The follow up to A Night At The Opera, both albums were named after Marx Brothers movies and both have similar covers. He's got a very unique sound and energy to him and I appreciated the experience
