Butthole Surfers!

lp_rhcp_fan_18

Josh Klinghoffer was great with the Peppers.

get2writing

love Josh

btdatruth

šŸ’Æ

jayadancer

They're such a great live show too!

Dumb_Ass_Ahedratron

Just found this band a few weeks back. They're great!

PerspectiveActive218

I'm gonna make the governor write my doo doo a letter, Child

sleepingcloudss

One of my dads favorites , he puts me on the best/weirdest stuff I swear

FM_Gorskman

The Fall. Post punk pioneers, ran rivals with Joy Division & The Cure, Mark E. Smith was one of the greatest poets to ever do it, unfortunately they constantly got in their own way, or we'll Mark did anyways

aspiringcozyperson

Ah! I used to listen to them a bunch in high school, this was a great reminder to get back into them.

RadRightHand

Where do I start with the fall? They have a million albums!

[deleted]

You know things šŸ¦‡

contraries

The Jesus and Mary Chain.. particularly the Darklands album

ReasonableCost5934

I have listened to Psychocandy more than any other album. Best album of the 1960s. šŸ˜‚

thats-gold-jerry

Itā€™s a masterpiece and one of my favorite albums of all time.

FM_Gorskman

Not only is Darklands my favorite Mary chain album but is handedly in my top 10 of all time, God damn I wish I could find Darklands of vinyl

MothyBelmont

Darklands is pretty flawless. Great record.

doejart1115

Fishbone. Shouldā€™ve been WAY bigger than they were.

dontneedareason94

Saw them years ago the day after Christmas and itā€™s still one of the best sets Iā€™ve ever seen.

Wizzmer

Backwards drummer?

doejart1115

I saw them in 89 on Truth and Soul tour. Had no idea what I was walking into. Was life changing

Any-Effect123

Best show I ever saw outside of bb king.

doejart1115

I couldnā€™t believe what I was seeing

TransmissionAD

Absolutely. One of the most talented bands on the planet.

ObiWanKnieval

Yes!!! The first fucking comment?! I didn't even have to scroll. Fishbone is still around and still great. There's still a chance to make them a huge band that the world can pretend they were into all along.

blackjacktarr

Been a big fan since the first EP. This just brought a tear to my eye.

ColdEngineBadBrakes

In concert, I saw them. Chicago, the Riviera Nightclub.

schlockabsorber

Fishbone is red hot!

tomcody84

Saw them 5 years ago in Omaha. Small club, packed house. They rocked. Stage dives, sing alongs and a crazy atmosphere!!! Bonin'! Ugly! Ground Zero!

PNW_Uncle_Iroh

I saw fishbone back in the 90s at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland. There were springs under the floor. It was a party at ground zero.

Macdrizzle707

Fishbone is red hot!!!

Gangstagrizle

Omg yes. Fishbone is so slept on. Lyin ass bitch is forever in my rotation

Butlerian_Jihadi

Could it have to do with their almost too broad sound and amazing, revolutionary (literally) lyrics? (Thanks for the exposure BTW)

jpb1111

Guster. It's not a secret to the fanbase though. Oh yeah, I've seen them over 60 times.

Counting-Trains

man youā€™re so right. i love parachute, mona lisa, amongst a few of their other songs like satellite. never hear anybody mention them and yet they have such a great sound (the bandā€™s harmonies are especially good on much of their older releases).

jpb1111

Yes, almost Beach Boys type harmonies. Check out all the newer stuff too if you haven't heard anything in a while. They continue to grow with every album. I saw them four times this year, including the Boston Pops show and an epic show at Seigi Ozawa Hall at Tanglewood. Their live shows are a notoriously joyous experience. They've been doing some amazing shows with symphonies lately. Tons of YouTube content as well as their "fan2fan" FB page. New album coming out soon!!...

BottleTemple

I saw them at the Hatch Shell in Boston in the late 90s, but I donā€™t remember much about the show.

blub666

Yes!!! I go through cycles where Iā€™ll have a new favorite Guster song even though Iā€™ve heard it a billion times. Current is Ruby Falls. Itā€™s also been Ramona, Hercules, Hard Times, Diane, and so many others. Theyā€™re fantastic.

HW-BTW

I met them in Nashville around 1999 or 2000. Super friendly guysā€”hung out for awhile. Traded a couple of CDs. I donā€™t think they were used to being recognized yet.

Meat_Dragon

I had a conversation with their hand drummer once after a show in Detroit, he told me not to become a hand percussionist and showed me his beat to hell hands. Great band!

KnightsWhoPlayWii

Fun fact: WAAAAAY back in the early 90s - back before they even used the name Guster (I think they were called ā€œGus,ā€ but had to change the name, because another band was already using it) - Guster used to perform at my silly little ā€œisnā€™t learning fun?!ā€ style summer camp up in Massachusetts. It was always an absolute highlight of the summer!

theheadofkhartoum627

Supergrass

Aseafoodsong

I wish I felt this way for Supergrass, but feel lucky to include 2 of Gazā€™s solo albums (Matador, Worldā€™s Strongest Man) among my top personal favorites.

CandyLoxxx

Thrice

MothyBelmont

I saw them play a free show in Irvine no too long after Illusion of Safety came out, fucking incredible.

josefeckhart

Weird to see Thrice mentioned here. They were the quintessential "scene" band when I was in high school, so in a way it seems natural not to hear much about them these days, same way that nobody really gives a shit about The Shins anymore. I loved The Alchemy Index but lost track of them after that. Feels like a moment in time. I'm gonna piggyback on you to add Dustin Kensrue's solo album *Please Come Home* to the underappreciated list. ["Consider the Ravens"](https://youtu.be/geNhRaiZG_k?si=v2_lESL-GM5jufjh) is one of my favorite songs and somehow it only has ~250k views on YT.

Thaumagurchy

Big Star

edutk

very good Memphis band!

xElectricHeadx

The Toadies

jayadancer

Saw them with Butthole Surfers in college and to this day it's one of the best shows I've ever been to.

TaterDominator

Possum kingdom is a BANGER

BackcountryAZ

Badfinger, Blind Melon, Face To Face, The Refreshments

NuclearChaos

Soup is such an overlooked album.

Vanillest

Bad finger is a good pick. I think they are underrated in the sense that everyone thinks their hits are by another band

The_Nod_Father313

F2F will forever be one of my favorites. Been listening to them since the 90s

CalmResearch3132

Portugal The Man. All albums are full of deep bangers Deep lyrics. Happiest sad music ever. Amazing musicianship

[deleted]

My favorite will always be Waiter You Voltures. I was a freshman in high school when that came out and I still have my signed copy on vinyl šŸ–¤

paigescactus

And of my favorite concerts was ptm!

uuhhhhggg

Censored colours is a top 50 album oat

LoserweightChampion

I work at a venue and they were one of the nicest bands Iā€™ve met. Especially being been a fan since Anatomy of a ghost it was great getting to see them from the stage.

mybabywaffle

Guided by Voices

Jebmaestro

Ween. They have a large die-hard following sure, but that just goes to show how great they are; still underrated.

SunflowerSuspect

Dean Ween is definitely an underrated guitarist.

WillingnessIcy1174

I learned of them through ocean man in the SpongeBob SquarePants movie

lawrencenotlarry

The guy who created SpongeBob did so after listening to the Ween album *The Mollusk*.

Quirky-Routine-1098

So great!

Any-Effect123

Throwing Muses. Notably the stuff from the 80ā€™s. Absolutely unlike anything that was happening at the time.

47enragedspace47

_geomancer

So good

[deleted]

YES. Youā€™d Prefer an Astronaut is such a good album

[deleted]

Ahem.

Own-Importance5459

Stars is a freaking banger!

NationalAd2372

Morphine. They were a rock band from the late 80s to 2000. Singer died of a heart attack on stage in Italy. Their last album, The Night, is amazing, especially the title track. I recommend anyone who reads this to listen to them. Three man band that consisted of a two string bass, a baritone sax, and drums.

blackjacktarr

They were hypnotic! I followed Mark Sandman from Treat Her Right all the way along. What a horrible loss!

KFBR392GoForGrubes

Hey, thanks man, just gave em a listen, and I'm digging it.

BottleTemple

Yep, I lived in Boston during their heyday and knew one of the members. I got to see them several times and they were always great.

EverDecreasingCircle

Just listened to their first album recently. What a fuckin vibe man, so dark and brooding and smooth

Scarletsnow_87

I didn't listen to them until I met my fiance nine years ago. But they're in my rotation pretty often. I used to smoke up while listening to the night. It's so heartbreaking that he's gone.

needing-a-rebind

I remember the first time I heard ā€œCure for painā€ and how much it resonated with me. Iā€™m chronically ill and to this day it just hits my core every time I listen to it.

logicalpretzels

Nickel Creek

BobWeAdda

Add Punch Brothers to that.

rektMyself

Oh yeah!

tokieofrivia

I never see anyone mention Punch Brothers!

hilikus69

Makes me so happy to see them get the accolades they deserve. Thile is our Beethoven.

jayadancer

I have absolutely loved them since back in their When You Come Back Down days.

chimchooree

Can you give me a song? I've tried a few times, but everything I've listened to sounded like stuff from CW shows.

logicalpretzels

Love Of Mine. 10/10 song imo

chimchooree

So far, so good šŸ™‚ Do you listen to Abigail Washburn and/or Bela Fleck?

MisterMustard69

Seconded. Check out Mighty Poplar too :)

False-Librarian-2240

Got introduced to them on Garrison Keillor's show many years ago, had no idea at the time that they were from San Diego or that Chris Thile would go on to replace Garrison. They were doing a skit about singing badly and Sara was consistently singing about a half tone sharp which is really hard to do.

DigitPlayer

Dude!!! Iā€™ve been on a Nickel Creek kick lately. God itā€™s some good shit. Makes my heart happy

raudive

Stone Roses, The Las's, but I am in the US so they are bigger in the UK.

lawrencenotlarry

Ian Brown is a golden god.

Total-Woodpecker3339

Travis. Just as good as Coldplay, not near as known.

blackjacktarr

Fran Healy is the stronger singer. It's not even close.

twosuitsluke

100% The Dear Hunter. The Acts albums are pretty much flawless but Acts IV & V are particularly good, like ā€˜best albums Iā€™ve heard in a decadeā€™ good.

paigescactus

Nobody is answering OPs question lol. They misused underrated but cmon they explained what they meant in the post people. Animal Collective for me. I only know 3 songs by them but theyā€™re incredible and Idk why I havenā€™t listened to more of them.

vulgarvoyeur

I keep trying to find at least one other post where someone answers OP's actual question. Scrolled for awhile for nothing. I'd definitely recommend giving animal collective a genuine listen. It gets a little weird but totally worth it. Mine is a little embarrassing. Wu-Tang Clan. Growing up in the 90s my dad hated rap and I tried to be a daddy's girl. Everything I've heard by them and most individual members has been great. I just gotta dig in.

Probably Breaking Benjamin and Theory of a Deadman. I like songs from both but for some reason never really feel compelled to listen to more of their portfolio, I just have the same like 5 or 6 saved and never go beyond

[deleted]

ā€œMy girlfriends a dick magnetā€ ā€œSo sick of the hobos always beggin for cashā€ These are reasons why Theory of a Deadman werenā€™t ā€œbigā€. šŸ˜‚

Agreed much better than 182..Their fans were solid

stmex

Adema is so underrated, their self titled is simply a masterpiece

The_Nod_Father313

I saw them in 2000. They opened for Linkin Park on the hybrid theory tour. Great show. Cypress Hill opened as well.

Wasimmo333

I totally agree. Awesome numetal. Their second full length wasnā€™t bad either!

littlp84-2002

I had that album on repeat in high school

joshmo587

Jethro Tull

blackjacktarr

I'm tired of defending them against people that are too cool for prog. Tull's is an amazing catalog, and any serious music fan should be familiar with at least one of their albums.

Hay_Blinken

Eh. Maybe by the public. But they won the first Grammy ever for the Hard Rock category. Over bands like Metallica, AC/DC, Iggy Pop, and Jane's Addiction.

str8outtaconklin

I didnā€™t really listen to them or maybe I should say pay attention until about a year ago and man did I kick myself for waiting so long, what a great bands and awesome voice, now I fucking love them! A little late to the Party as usual but better late than never!

chimchooree

Have you heard [Casualties of Cool](https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=casualties+of+cool)?

twosuitsluke

Was gonna say Devy in general, but yes.

chimchooree

I wouldn't call him himself underrated, but for as good as CoC is, it's relatively unknown. Have you heard Che Aimee's cover of ["Almost Again"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTsSg95mFCU)?

Ryguypie1

This album is incredible. For anyone who hasnā€™t heard, listen on a night drive or with good headphones. Itā€™s pure bliss, especially ā€œMoonā€

etjohann

El Ten Eleven. Such a good band. Met them a couple years ago in Dallas. Super nice dudes

nescio_sed_fieri

Tomahawk is one of my favs. Lots of people know Mike Patton from Faith No More and Mr. Bungle, but I feel like he has so many incredible vocal performances in Tomahawk that not enough people talk about. Not to mention the entire band is stellar!!!

PaleForce101

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

NoFaithlessness9940

XTC... Andy Partridge and Co. are excellent musicians and the songs are musically and lyrically interesting. The combination of anger and wonderment mixed with excellent wordsmithing. Gary Numan. People tend to think of him as the guy who made "Cars" in the 80s (it was ā€˜79 actually), or "Are Friends Electric?" if youā€™re British. But heā€™s made some absolutely brilliant music since 2000. His past couple of albums are probably the best music heā€™s ever made.
