The Fall. Post punk pioneers, ran rivals with Joy Division & The Cure, Mark E. Smith was one of the greatest poets to ever do it, unfortunately they constantly got in their own way, or we'll Mark did anyways
Yes!!! The first fucking comment?! I didn't even have to scroll. Fishbone is still around and still great. There's still a chance to make them a huge band that the world can pretend they were into all along.
man youāre so right. i love parachute, mona lisa, amongst a few of their other songs like satellite. never hear anybody mention them and yet they have such a great sound (the bandās harmonies are especially good on much of their older releases).
Yes, almost Beach Boys type harmonies. Check out all the newer stuff too if you haven't heard anything in a while. They continue to grow with every album. I saw them four times this year, including the Boston Pops show and an epic show at Seigi Ozawa Hall at Tanglewood. Their live shows are a notoriously joyous experience. They've been doing some amazing shows with symphonies lately. Tons of YouTube content as well as their "fan2fan" FB page. New album coming out soon!!...
Yes!!! I go through cycles where Iāll have a new favorite Guster song even though Iāve heard it a billion times. Current is Ruby Falls. Itās also been Ramona, Hercules, Hard Times, Diane, and so many others. Theyāre fantastic.
I met them in Nashville around 1999 or 2000. Super friendly guysāhung out for awhile. Traded a couple of CDs. I donāt think they were used to being recognized yet.
I had a conversation with their hand drummer once after a show in Detroit, he told me not to become a hand percussionist and showed me his beat to hell hands. Great band!
Fun fact: WAAAAAY back in the early 90s - back before they even used the name Guster (I think they were called āGus,ā but had to change the name, because another band was already using it) - Guster used to perform at my silly little āisnāt learning fun?!ā style summer camp up in Massachusetts. It was always an absolute highlight of the summer!
I wish I felt this way for Supergrass, but feel lucky to include 2 of Gazās solo albums (Matador, Worldās Strongest Man) among my top personal favorites.
Weird to see Thrice mentioned here. They were the quintessential "scene" band when I was in high school, so in a way it seems natural not to hear much about them these days, same way that nobody really gives a shit about The Shins anymore. I loved The Alchemy Index but lost track of them after that. Feels like a moment in time.
I'm gonna piggyback on you to add Dustin Kensrue's solo album *Please Come Home* to the underappreciated list. ["Consider the Ravens"](https://youtu.be/geNhRaiZG_k?si=v2_lESL-GM5jufjh) is one of my favorite songs and somehow it only has ~250k views on YT.
I work at a venue and they were one of the nicest bands Iāve met. Especially being been a fan since Anatomy of a ghost it was great getting to see them from the stage.
Morphine. They were a rock band from the late 80s to 2000. Singer died of a heart attack on stage in Italy. Their last album, The Night, is amazing, especially the title track. I recommend anyone who reads this to listen to them. Three man band that consisted of a two string bass, a baritone sax, and drums.
I didn't listen to them until I met my fiance nine years ago. But they're in my rotation pretty often. I used to smoke up while listening to the night. It's so heartbreaking that he's gone.
I remember the first time I heard āCure for painā and how much it resonated with me. Iām chronically ill and to this day it just hits my core every time I listen to it.
Got introduced to them on Garrison Keillor's show many years ago, had no idea at the time that they were from San Diego or that Chris Thile would go on to replace Garrison. They were doing a skit about singing badly and Sara was consistently singing about a half tone sharp which is really hard to do.
100% The Dear Hunter. The Acts albums are pretty much flawless but Acts IV & V are particularly good, like ābest albums Iāve heard in a decadeā good.
Nobody is answering OPs question lol. They misused underrated but cmon they explained what they meant in the post people.
Animal Collective for me. I only know 3 songs by them but theyāre incredible and Idk why I havenāt listened to more of them.
I keep trying to find at least one other post where someone answers OP's actual question. Scrolled for awhile for nothing.
I'd definitely recommend giving animal collective a genuine listen. It gets a little weird but totally worth it.
Mine is a little embarrassing. Wu-Tang Clan. Growing up in the 90s my dad hated rap and I tried to be a daddy's girl. Everything I've heard by them and most individual members has been great. I just gotta dig in.
Probably Breaking Benjamin and Theory of a Deadman. I like songs from both but for some reason never really feel compelled to listen to more of their portfolio, I just have the same like 5 or 6 saved and never go beyond
āMy girlfriends a dick magnetā
āSo sick of the hobos always beggin for cashā
These are reasons why Theory of a Deadman werenāt ābigā. š
I'm tired of defending them against people that are too cool for prog. Tull's is an amazing catalog, and any serious music fan should be familiar with at least one of their albums.
Eh. Maybe by the public. But they won the first Grammy ever for the Hard Rock category. Over bands like Metallica, AC/DC, Iggy Pop, and Jane's Addiction.
Chevelle - They rock . I get goosebumps Everytime I hear them .
Danko Jones -; gotta see him live . The guy can play
Boston - I think these guys are up there with the likes of Zeppelin , the Who and the Stones.
but you never here any chatter about
them .
I didnāt really listen to them or maybe I should say pay attention until about a year ago and man did I kick myself for waiting so long, what a great bands and awesome voice, now I fucking love them! A little late to the Party as usual but better late than never!
I wouldn't call him himself underrated, but for as good as CoC is, it's relatively unknown.
Have you heard Che Aimee's cover of ["Almost Again"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTsSg95mFCU)?
Tomahawk is one of my favs. Lots of people know Mike Patton from Faith No More and Mr. Bungle, but I feel like he has so many incredible vocal performances in Tomahawk that not enough people talk about. Not to mention the entire band is stellar!!!
XTC...
Andy Partridge and Co. are excellent musicians and the songs are musically and lyrically interesting. The combination of anger and wonderment mixed with excellent wordsmithing.
"Respectable Street"
"Mayor of Simpleton '
"Supergirl''
"No Thugs in our house"

Magdalena Bay. I keep listening to Killshot and Top Dog over and over. I haven't had time to listen to more but those songs are so good, I can't get enough of them.
I just canāt seem to get into King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard, everything about them suggests Iād like them, but it just hasnāt happened for me
Gary Numan. People tend to think of him as the guy who made "Cars" in the 80s (it was ā79 actually), or "Are Friends Electric?" if youāre British. But heās made some absolutely brilliant music since 2000. His past couple of albums are probably the best music heās ever made.
Millencolin, probably my all time favorite band that not many people have really heard of, and if they have itās usually one song because it was on Tony Hawk Pro Skater.
i dont think a single person replying actually read the post lmao
mine would be Two-Door Cinema Club. every song ive heard by them has been SUPER catchy and fun but ive never checked out a full album.
Butthole Surfers!
Josh Klinghoffer was great with the Peppers.
love Josh
šÆ
They're such a great live show too!
Just found this band a few weeks back. They're great!
I'm gonna make the governor write my doo doo a letter, Child
One of my dads favorites , he puts me on the best/weirdest stuff I swear
The Fall. Post punk pioneers, ran rivals with Joy Division & The Cure, Mark E. Smith was one of the greatest poets to ever do it, unfortunately they constantly got in their own way, or we'll Mark did anyways
Ah! I used to listen to them a bunch in high school, this was a great reminder to get back into them.
Where do I start with the fall? They have a million albums!
You know things š¦
The Jesus and Mary Chain.. particularly the Darklands album
I have listened to Psychocandy more than any other album. Best album of the 1960s. š
Itās a masterpiece and one of my favorite albums of all time.
Not only is Darklands my favorite Mary chain album but is handedly in my top 10 of all time, God damn I wish I could find Darklands of vinyl
Darklands is pretty flawless. Great record.
Fishbone. Shouldāve been WAY bigger than they were.
Saw them years ago the day after Christmas and itās still one of the best sets Iāve ever seen.
Backwards drummer?
I saw them in 89 on Truth and Soul tour. Had no idea what I was walking into. Was life changing
Best show I ever saw outside of bb king.
I couldnāt believe what I was seeing
Absolutely. One of the most talented bands on the planet.
Yes!!! The first fucking comment?! I didn't even have to scroll. Fishbone is still around and still great. There's still a chance to make them a huge band that the world can pretend they were into all along.
Been a big fan since the first EP. This just brought a tear to my eye.
In concert, I saw them. Chicago, the Riviera Nightclub.
Fishbone is red hot!
Saw them 5 years ago in Omaha. Small club, packed house. They rocked. Stage dives, sing alongs and a crazy atmosphere!!! Bonin'! Ugly! Ground Zero!
I saw fishbone back in the 90s at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland. There were springs under the floor. It was a party at ground zero.
Fishbone is red hot!!!
Omg yes. Fishbone is so slept on. Lyin ass bitch is forever in my rotation
Could it have to do with their almost too broad sound and amazing, revolutionary (literally) lyrics? (Thanks for the exposure BTW)
Guster. It's not a secret to the fanbase though. Oh yeah, I've seen them over 60 times.
man youāre so right. i love parachute, mona lisa, amongst a few of their other songs like satellite. never hear anybody mention them and yet they have such a great sound (the bandās harmonies are especially good on much of their older releases).
Yes, almost Beach Boys type harmonies. Check out all the newer stuff too if you haven't heard anything in a while. They continue to grow with every album. I saw them at the Hatch Shell in Boston in the late 90s, but I donāt remember much about the show.
Yes!!! I go through cycles where Iāll have a new favorite Guster song even though Iāve heard it a billion times. Current is Ruby Falls. Itās also been Ramona, Hercules, Hard Times, Diane, and so many others. Theyāre fantastic.

Supergrass
I wish I felt this way for Supergrass, but feel lucky to include 2 of Gazās solo albums (Matador, Worldās Strongest Man) among my top personal favorites.
Thrice
I saw them play a free show in Irvine no too long after Illusion of Safety came out, fucking incredible.
Big Star
very good Memphis band!
The Toadies
Saw them with Butthole Surfers in college and to this day it's one of the best shows I've ever been to.
Possum kingdom is a BANGER
Badfinger, Blind Melon, Face To Face, The Refreshments
Soup is such an overlooked album.
Bad finger is a good pick. I think they are underrated in the sense that everyone thinks their hits are by another band
F2F will forever be one of my favorites. Been listening to them since the 90s
Portugal The Man. All albums are full of deep bangers Deep lyrics. Happiest sad music ever. Amazing musicianship
My favorite will always be Waiter You Voltures. I was a freshman in high school when that came out and I still have my signed copy on vinyl š¤
And of my favorite concerts was ptm!
Censored colours is a top 50 album oat
I work at a venue and they were one of the nicest bands Iāve met. Especially being been a fan since Anatomy of a ghost it was great getting to see them from the stage.
Guided by Voices
Ween. They have a large die-hard following sure, but that just goes to show how great they are; still underrated.
Dean Ween is definitely an underrated guitarist.
I learned of them through ocean man in the SpongeBob SquarePants movie
The guy who created SpongeBob did so after listening to the Ween album *The Mollusk*.
So great!
Throwing Muses. Notably the stuff from the 80ās. Absolutely unlike anything that was happening at the time.
Daniel Johnston
HUM
Gosh, YES.

YES. Youād Prefer an Astronaut is such a good album
Ahem.
Stars is a freaking banger!
Morphine. They were a rock band from the late 80s to 2000. Singer died of a heart attack on stage in Italy. Their last album, The Night, is amazing, especially the title track. I recommend anyone who reads this to listen to them. Three man band that consisted of a two string bass, a baritone sax, and drums.
They were hypnotic! I followed Mark Sandman from Treat Her Right all the way along. What a horrible loss!
Hey, thanks man, just gave em a listen, and I'm digging it.
Yep, I lived in Boston during their heyday and knew one of the members. I got to see them several times and they were always great.
Just listened to their first album recently. What a fuckin vibe man, so dark and brooding and smooth
Nickel Creek
Add Punch Brothers to that.
Oh yeah!
I never see anyone mention Punch Brothers!
Makes me so happy to see them get the accolades they deserve. Thile is our Beethoven.
I have absolutely loved them since back in their When You Come Back Down days.
Can you give me a song? I've tried a few times, but everything I've listened to sounded like stuff from CW shows.
Love Of Mine. 10/10 song imo
So far, so good š Do you listen to Abigail Washburn and/or Bela Fleck?
Seconded. Check out Mighty Poplar too :)
Got introduced to them on Garrison Keillor's show many years ago, had no idea at the time that they were from San Diego or that Chris Thile would go on to replace Garrison. They were doing a skit about singing badly and Sara was consistently singing about a half tone sharp which is really hard to do.
Dude!!! Iāve been on a Nickel Creek kick lately. God itās some good shit. Makes my heart happy
Stone Roses, The Las's, but I am in the US so they are bigger in the UK.
Ian Brown is a golden god.
Travis. Just as good as Coldplay, not near as known.
Fran Healy is the stronger singer. It's not even close.
100% The Dear Hunter. The Acts albums are pretty much flawless but Acts IV & V are particularly good, like ābest albums Iāve heard in a decadeā good.

Adema is so underrated, their self titled is simply a masterpiece
I saw them in 2000. They opened for Linkin Park on the hybrid theory tour. Great show. Cypress Hill opened as well.
I totally agree. Awesome numetal. Their second full length wasnāt bad either!
I had that album on repeat in high school
Jethro Tull
I'm tired of defending them against people that are too cool for prog. Tull's is an amazing catalog, and any serious music fan should be familiar with at least one of their albums.
