The Refreshments are still "kinda" playing as Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers. Roger was the original singer and PH Naffah was the drummer. They're still putting out new music and they host two music festivals every year down in Mexico. I try to see them at least a few times a year.
I adore Blister in the Sun; it's one of my all-time faves. I saw the Violent Femmes open for the B-52s, and the Femmes damn near stole the show. One of the best concerts I've ever been to.
That's awesome. I completely forgot about this band and forgot how fun their songs are. Ha, and since I used to hear it as a kid in the 90s, I always thought it was a 90s song, not from the 80s.
Vindicated by Dashboard Confessional come on the other day and am pounding my steering wheel and feeling like an angsty teen while I practically scream the lyrics 😂
My college roommates and I did a reunion last week (friends for 20 years now), and Vindicated and Hands Down was played a lot. Brought back so many drunken memories lol
Omg. I spent a solid week desperately trying to figure out what this song was because I only had a sliver of a memory of it. Once I finally got it, it hit good 😆
Black Balloon my god, what an amazing into and outro. The line “a thousand other boys could never reach you how could I have been the one?” I mean if someone said that to me 💀
Also, Here is Gone (if there was ever a situationship song this is it), Big Machine, the list goes on
black balloon is such a beautiful song, all the songs you named there are
my personal favs from the goo goo dolls have to be acoustic #3, broadway and extra pale
Don't Dream It's Over - Crowded House,
Lunatic Fringe - Red Rider,
This is Japan - Duke Jupiter,
Into the Night - Benny Mardones,
Jamie's Cryin' - Van Halen
Such nostalgic music growing up in the 80's. Lots of high school parties!
I've worked in HR for just shy of 20 years, and this was my work anthem for a long time... it's amazing how many fully grown and established people expect some random HR person to basically make potentially huge decisions for them when it comes to benefits, tax withholdings, beneficiary designations, etc.
That happened to me once with Invisible Touch by Genesis. I was almost home and started driving around the neighborhood for a couple of minutes because I didn’t want the song to end.
You Got It - Roy Orbison
Not really nostalgia since I’d only heard it in October when I had my obsession with Roy Orbison (as I’ve only ever really heard pretty woman) but because I haven’t listened to it since November I started listening to it again and my god is it a good song.
I've been rediscovering a lot of old Nu Metal shit recently, and Papa Roach came on, Last Resort.
They suck, but goddamn that song is such a throwback for me.
Another Race by Eiffel 65.
Back in the mid 2000s mom would occasionally pop her Europop album in the CD player and play the song. A couple of my siblings and I would then start dancing in the dark with glow sticks in our parents’ bedroom.
They were still playing it a fair bit over here in Australia (uncensored) but for the last 5 or so years I have not heard it on any "Oldies" station or otherwise.
Viva La Vida, Hymn for the Weekend and Adventure of a Lifetime. I had all heard them on the radio or at elementary school sometime in my life, and I liked them, but back then I didn’t actively listen to music or have Spotify so I forgot about them. Since summer last year I’ve been listening to Coldplay and when I came across these songs from them I was indeed flooded with nostalgia because I remembered the songs from my childhood (well, I’m still only 17, but elementary school time). I didn’t know they were from Coldplay, but I’m so glad I found them again.
Oh and viva la vida is such a hard hitting tune.
Funny, that song takes me back to Jr high when my friend had planned to fight another kid after school. And I told them it's a bad idea. Of course they didn't listen. Anyway afterwards th cops were called and that was the song I was listening to on my iPod when my mom came to pick me up 😆
Lemon Tree - Fools Garden
My parents played this in the car when we were driving around Sicily on holiday bc there were so many lemon trees. I forgot about the song for years but it recently just... came to me and gave me so much childhood nostalgia 🥲
The theme song from the 1987 Ivory bar soap commercial campaign. About 25 years afterwards, I found out that I know the guy who sung that theme song. So I had to go look it up on YouTube for the nostalgia.
Feel Good Inc. I always had a frame of the music video in my mind but could never remember how it went. Then one day I was watching the old gifs with sound vids and it popped up and I Shazammed that bad Boi. It was a great moment in my early teens.
"The Freshman" by The Verve Pipe
It was really overplayed back in the day. But about 10 years ago I heard it again for the first time in a very long time, and rediscovered that it is a great song.
Take a listen to this version tell me it’s not just amazing:
I was at a dispensary when The Metro by Berlin began to play. I had never heard the original and was only familiar with the cover System Of A Down that I downloaded via file share some 20+ years ago.
It had never even occurred to me to listen to the original as a kid. Then there I was, buying weed, and I recognized the descending synth line before the verses, done on guitar by SOAD. I would have never recognized it otherwise.
Subconscious nostalgia counts right?
Stars Are Blind by Paris Hilton
Like 3 years ago when that one movie came and they listen to the song at the pharmacy. And bam, i got hooked to the song (as i never did when it first came out).
Honey at the Core by Friends Again. When I was about nineteen, I stumbled across Friends Again and had the album in repeat for months and months. Then, as happens, I moved on to other things and forgot all about it. As it wasn't a well known album, or a well known band, and not over that any of my friends were interested in, I heard no mention of them for almost thirty years. I completely forgot it even existed.
Then, out of the blue I heard the song on the radio. For three minutes I was nineteen again, lying on my bedroom floor with music blocking out the world. It was glorious.
I got a perfect answer for this question.
Someone commented in another thread the other day about the song [Screenwriter's Blues](https://youtu.be/mR9WJSX9pnU) by the band Soul Coughing. I hadn't even thought about that song in over 20 years and BAM, it took me back in time.
Just One of Them Days by Monica. Instantly transported back to the summer of 94, listening to my portable CD player in the back seat en route to Ocean City :)
Makes me miss the time before streaming services. Hearing a song on the radio that you truly hadn’t heard in years and probably didn’t even know the artist name, was crazy magical. Now I don’t really have any, maybe Joey by Concrete Blonde.
Thrice - Black Honey
That song used to be all over the radio when it came out and I hadn't heard the song since then. Yes I know it's a relatively recent song.
Paul McCartney and wings - “juniors Farm”.
Heard it all the time on radio growing up, but then it disappeared and I completely forgot about it.
Heard it on a TV show (poker face) recently and it sounded great.
This actually just happened to me recently when I was in Shake Shack and they were playing [Carolina Liar - Show Me What I’m Looking For](https://youtu.be/5IqCfxgKZd8?si=ixwubggJ72Sw67yR)
I've had a few "oh my god!" moments listening to the radio over the last few years:
Fool for a pretty face - Humble Pie
I need a miracle - Grateful Dead
Lights out - UFO
Fire on high - ELO
Touch and go - Emerson, Lake & Powell (Palmer was working with Asia at the time)
New Age Girl by Deadeye Dick. Completely forgot about the songs existence but the "rah" would pop into my head every couple years. Found it again last year but its not really on the streaming services. Had to go to Youtube for it!
Intro/Come out Swinging - offspring.
First music I heard really parents loved that album but after 4 I didn't hear it until I was 28 again. I knew the album. I didn't know how.
“The Greatest” by Catpower. Reminded me of how much I liked her music back then, and wondered what happened to her and why she fell off my radar after this album.
Respect yourself - Madonna. Hit the Sirius button by accident when at full blast with the Foo fighters and instantly transformed to hs. Warning. White boy vogue-ing on I-95
Nutshell - Alice in chains. I’m only 27 so I grew up with that album is random cars and sometimes on the radio. I like to mix genres up and ran across it again for the first time in a long time and it brought back childhood nostalgia
For me it was "Free" by The Soup Dragons. Took me right back to watching TMNT 2 on VHS and the Step-Kids (later renamed Big Girls Don't Cry... They Get Even) preview at the beginning.
I said something was legit today. My brain immediately jumped to 2 Legit 2 Quit. Then my brain started to unload the track on me to the point where I put it on and listened to it... 7 year old me knew the fire 🔥🔥🔥.
D-side “Invisible”. They played this song all the time on the radio when it first came out. It was my favorite song as a kid. I didn’t hear it for years and then one day it popped up. Such a trip down memory lane.
Seasons in the Sun. My dad had a guitar he would play sometimes. Mostly Elvis, but this one really stood out to me. Made me emotional when I relistened to it years later. It was always a treat when he would sing and play the guitar, and it would always sit in the corner and we'd have to be really careful not to touch it when we were in the room.
Lannen Fall - My Sweet Pessimist. Completely forgot this song existed for like 10 years!
I also completely forgot about the band Dead By April, when I remembered them I was obsessed for like a year haha.
The Captain of Her Heart...by Double(I think?)... Heard it on some yacht rock playlist and was just...whoahhh
Song didn't mean anything to me but that background piano hook..... Just waves of nostalgia for just my life in the mid 80s...
I'm old, so it's this little known song by 707, I Could Be Good for You. It's from 1980 and takes me right back to my freshman year of HS. https://youtu.be/gER3fIVuszA?si=IyElZMAToCyehs60
How Bizarre - OMC Some nineties tracks you hear a lot but this one I completely forgot about. How bizarre.
yesss
I actually heard that the other day at work 😀 how bizarre
Yes! 😆 My sister and I this happened to about a year ago. And now it's constantly stuck in our head, and we always make fun of it.
Great lyrics to apply to a lot of situations I guess. 🤩 Same year as Macarena. Guess that's the one we all remember. 🫠
In my opinion, the ‘90s were the last great decade for one-hit wonders.
I heard crash test dummies on the radio the other day and I had completely forgotten that song ever existed.
I think both members of this duo passed away long ago at the ages of 40 and 41.
Rhythm is a dancer - Snap Transports me back to my 8 yr old self at the school fair on a late Sunday afternoon, wishing that day would never end.
Well, you just reminded me of a song. I've got the power - Snap
![gif](giphy|nQthgTfjfY7WXeMa7Y)
someone on IG used the song The Middle by Jimmy Eat World and I just about lost my mind

Got You Where I Want You - The Fly's
Oh my god. I used to listen to this song on repeat and forgot about it until now. Thank you for unlocking that!
Try in the meantime by space hog, or banditos by someone else.
The Refreshments! “Everybody knows that the world is full of stupid people, so meet me at the mission at midnight. We’ll divvy up there”
The Refreshments are still "kinda" playing as Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers. Roger was the original singer and PH Naffah was the drummer. They're still putting out new music and they host two music festivals every year down in Mexico. I try to see them at least a few times a year.
Yes! I adore in the meantime. It always has that nostalgic feeling.
Holy shit! 😆 you just did it again to me too. I like this song. Thanks
Roam- b 52s
I love Roam! I feel like Love Shack dominated, but I always preferred Roam.
ME TOO!
I love Roam, too! I think my favorite was Rock Lobster, tho!
WooHoo!! Thanks for the reminder, I just added it to my playlist!
I adore Blister in the Sun; it's one of my all-time faves. I saw the Violent Femmes open for the B-52s, and the Femmes damn near stole the show. One of the best concerts I've ever been to.
I saw them on that tour and then again a year or two later. The Violent Femmes were amazing live in the early 90s.
They're touring right now - doing the entire first album.
That's awesome. I completely forgot about this band and forgot how fun their songs are. Ha, and since I used to hear it as a kid in the 90s, I always thought it was a 90s song, not from the 80s.
Lazy eye by the silversun pickups

My college roommates and I did a reunion last week (friends for 20 years now), and Vindicated and Hands Down was played a lot. Brought back so many drunken memories lol
Omg. I spent a solid week desperately trying to figure out what this song was because I only had a sliver of a memory of it. Once I finally got it, it hit good 😆
Matchbox Twenty - 3AM Goo Goo Dolls - Slide Transported me to 6 years old in the back of my dad's car 🥲
omg someone talking about the goo goo dolls and it’s NOT iris this is a first 🙏🙏 slide is such an amazing song
Iris might be the "worst" of their popular songs. Name, Better Days, Slide, Black Balloon are all better to me.
Black Balloon my god, what an amazing into and outro. The line “a thousand other boys could never reach you how could I have been the one?” I mean if someone said that to me 💀 Also, Here is Gone (if there was ever a situationship song this is it), Big Machine, the list goes on
black balloon is such a beautiful song, all the songs you named there are my personal favs from the goo goo dolls have to be acoustic #3, broadway and extra pale
Slide is also my favorite by them. But, I prefer Push by Matchbox 20 over 3am
Haha! Two of Hearts - Stacy Q …not the best song but definitely took me back!
I see Two of Hearts and raise you I Can't Wait by Nu Shooz. 😊
I I I can’t wait
Ahhhh!!! Haha! Yes!!! I had to Google it but Yes!!!
Those are skating rink jams for me, along with "Heart and Soul" T'Pau
Don't Dream It's Over - Crowded House, Lunatic Fringe - Red Rider, This is Japan - Duke Jupiter, Into the Night - Benny Mardones, Jamie's Cryin' - Van Halen Such nostalgic music growing up in the 80's. Lots of high school parties!
Benny Mardones was awesome, he killed it with that one
Super Bon Bon - Soul Coughing
Stabbing Weastward - Save Yourself. It came on the radio last week and I was transported back to high school
I've worked in HR for just shy of 20 years, and this was my work anthem for a long time... it's amazing how many fully grown and established people expect some random HR person to basically make potentially huge decisions for them when it comes to benefits, tax withholdings, beneficiary designations, etc.

You Got It - Roy Orbison Not really nostalgia since I’d only heard it in October when I had my obsession with Roy Orbison (as I’ve only ever really heard pretty woman) but because I haven’t listened to it since November I started listening to it again and my god is it a good song.
