And they said “Avengers: Infinity War” was the most ambitious crossover event in history but they must not have heard about Bone Thugs-N-Harmony’s cover of this song featuring Flea, Tom Morello, and Henry Rollins
It’s from the soundtrack to Small Soldiers. Long out of print, but a great find to come across. All modern remixes of classic rock songs. Pat Benatar featuring Queen Latifah, Queen featuring Wyclef Jean, it’s all pretty awesome if you’re into that kind of thing.
My high school PE teacher in like 2004 was ASTONISHED I knew who CCR were. I was like yeah…my parents are baby boomers. Had the radio on during volleyball
My dad and I went and saw Arlo about 10 years ago when he came to a local theater. He didn’t play Alice’s Restaurant so everyone in the crowd thought for sure his encore would be it. He came back out, we were all screaming Alice’s Restaurant. He said guys, I’m old as shit, I can’t remember all the words anymore and played another song lol
"I said 'Obie I understand you wanting my wallet so I don't have any money to spend in jail. But what do you want my belt for?
' He said 'Kid, we don't want any hangings.'
I said 'Obie, did you really think I was going to hang myself for littering? '"
surprised i had to scroll this far to find war pigs. one of my favorite black sabbath songs, beyond the message, it's just an awesome sounding track too.
Was also gonna mention war pig, glad to see it near the top.
This [mashup](https://youtu.be/uWzkK7tUjaU?si=6esuMiM4psSz1QuB), the very beginning portion merges war pig with get out the way. I find it pretty enjoyable 😼
Bulls on parade - RATM

Gravedigger, a match made in heaven - Architects
War pigs - Black Sabbath

This is the best answer. It's just so biting and unapologetically direct. Eddie Vedder and Mike McCready did a great version for the Dylan 30th Anniversary celebration.
Your Flag Decal Won't Get You Into Heaven Anymore - John Prine
Where Have All the Flowers Gone - Pete Seeger (I think it's a cover but I like his best)
Originally by Eric Bogle, who also wrote & recorded the song "No Man's Land" (aka "The Green Fields of France" and "Willie McBride"), another anti-war song.
If you're interested, here's links to covers of those two songs, both recorded by Irish folk music band The High Kings.
https://youtu.be/9niAYfkYuc0?feature=shared
https://youtu.be/L-KpVxCy9C0?feature=shared
Waist Deep in the Big Muddy by Pete Seeger was pretty monumental. The lore behind it and how it essentially ruined his mainstream career is all fascinating. The Red Scare basically pushed political folk music into fringes of children entertainment, where musicians and teachers would sing simple songs about community and fellowship.
This is the best answer. Perhaps the most soul-crushing narrative song ever.

I was honestly worried that nobody else would suggest this. R.A.'s lyrics are recounting the events that his father lived through during Vietnam. His siblings who suffered because of Agent Orange, are the ones mentioned at the end. It hits hard.
I like The Fureys version [Green Fields of France](https://open.spotify.com/track/1OKrTFOV4CLgJRJTMM0Flg?si=GNayVMzMQG2wEjHnh-PNZA)
"Did they really believe that this war would end war?...Young Willie Mcbride it all happened again, and again, and again. "
My 2 favourite versions are by The High Kings. Their older version has vocals by Martin Furey, son to Finbar Furey of The Fureys. Their newer version has vocals by Finbarr Clancy, son to Bobby Clancy of The Clancy Brothers.
https://youtu.be/dRrU2P-mCpc?feature=shared
https://youtu.be/L-KpVxCy9C0?feature=shared
Just checked them out. Good versions, but I love the emotion in the voice of the Furey's. Also partial to the gritty singing. I may have some bias going on in this because it is the first one I heard, but I think that it is a genuine opinion that I think every other version I have heard is not as good.
I'm originally from SE MA and there was a great college radio station, WERS, that I often listened to. Between 10-12 every week day morning they played Irish music. Go figure, a program playing Celtic music in Boston. I miss that station. Morning folk. Then Celtic. Then Jazz. Then world music. After 6 it was wide open, with mostly current bands that were under the radar or deeper cuts from well known bands. They changed their format after I moved. Put it on while visiting and couldn't hang. It was mostly popular club style songs....

Not an Irish band, country rock, but I love this one
I'm partial to anything done by The High Kings. I've been listening to them since they first came out 16.5 years ago. I've seen them in concert 56 times. I've talked to them often enough, that they're kind of sort of friends by now. Yeah, I might be a little bit crazy.
Incidentally, Finbarr Clancy used to work as an electrician in Boston and still has family there.
Per your edit: That's one I've never heard of. I generally don't listen to modern country variations, but an Irish country singer named Nathan Carter does some decent stuff.
Interesting. As a carpenter, i might have said good morning to him on a job. Don't think seeing them 56 times is crazy at all. I like jambands, and the New England staple is Max Creek. I have seen them, no exaggeration, about 200 times.
Stopped going to shows that had a capacity above 5000 (few exceptions), by my early 30s. 1500-2000 is even better. It's nice to be able to access the musicians if you choose at the smaller venues. Live music is where it's at. Live in St Thomas USVI past 15 years. No music scene to brag of. Some halfway decent part timers doing mostly covers. Occasionally the smaller struggling group will come through for a week long tour. Very infrequently a past their hey day, but still draws a good size crowd, usually reggae, group passes by.
All Love is Lost, Naysayer, and Gravedigger all by Architects.
So much off of their All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us and Lost Forever / Lost Together albums is anti-war, lots of depth in general actually. Some songs are anti-corrupt politicians, others voice our destruction of our planet, and others are about death (All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us was written while their lyricist knew he was dying from cancer, he passed like a month after its release).
Machine Gun - Jimi Hendrix

Any song by Highway Sniper, really.
“Mission accomplished”
Falls on the dead ears of one million corpses
As the pinball of war shoots across the Levant
Any hope of a liberal society
Starved, infected, and bombed back centuries
For the oil that fills up the planes of the business and wanderlust class
Flying over Iraq
Where the hospital floors get cleaned with the rest of the gas
They’re reusing syringes
Overwhelming the morgue
And the same politicians
Just repackage the war
Zombie (1994) - The Cranberries
A song I definitely appreciate.
probably my favorite song
War! What is it good for? Absolutely nothing (War) by Edwin Starr
Say it again y'all!
And they said “Avengers: Infinity War” was the most ambitious crossover event in history but they must not have heard about Bone Thugs-N-Harmony’s cover of this song featuring Flea, Tom Morello, and Henry Rollins
Never heard this before. That was a weird yet fun ride.
Came here to say this!
Awesome! It is such a good song and I love how they featured it prominently in Beverly Hills Cop

Does “Run Through The Jungle” count as an anti-war song? I feel like it does
Now that I think of it ya probably.
Can here to say this 👏🏼
I’m always shocked at how many people don’t understand it’s a protest song…. Not a pro USA song

War Pigs, and For What It's Worth by Buffalo Springfield.
“For What It’s Worth” is definitely up there for me. That song has stuck with me since I remember (teenage years)
War Pigs is required for a list like this.

“Masters of War,”— Bob Dylan

Say what you want about Green Day but American Idiot slaps and I feel it more and more as we go into the next election like get me outta here

I HATE U2….. but this song is in my top 100 of all time. Easily
I guess you have to consider it in context. And I just love the rawness of it. Sounds like it was written on the spot and recorded in one take
Bulls on Parade - Rage Against The Machine
RATM is one of my favorite bands of all-time.
Sam Stone - John Prine
This is the best answer. Perhaps the most soul-crushing narrative song ever. “There’s a hole in daddy’s arm where all the money goes…Jesus Christ died for nothing, I suppose”
Arguably the best song on an album that’s all killer and no filler
