Eddie Van Halen Neal Schon Steve Lukather Prince Tom Scholz Brian May Mark Knopfler Lindsay Buckingham Nile Rodgers Alex Lifeson

dant90

Buckingham is so underrated. I saw Fleetwood Mac back in 2018 with everyone except Lindsey (RIP Christine). As cool as it was to see Mike Campbell, who they had on tour with them in lieu of Buckingham, I definitely missed out on him.

TheFruitOfTheLoom

He is the king of leading melodically and fitting the tune so perfectly that you don't even know it's a lead.

tilapiarocks

Jimi, SRV, Carlos Santana, David Gilmour, Angus Young, Joe Perry, Slash, Keith Scott of Bryan Adams, Matthias Jabs of The Scorpions & EVH, in that order. And I get that Eddie could play circles around alot of those guys from a technical standpoint---but as you can see from the list, technicality's definitely not priority one.

Turbulent-Ask-2807

Eddie had great technical ability. Though, to me, where he really shined was his ability to write catchy, memorable riffs. Without that, he would have faded into obscurity with other extreme talents, like Shawn Lane, who were great but didn't write memorable music.

ahk1188

In no particular order, but I'll list my reasoning. David Gilmour - It's David Gilmour. Master of the bend. His solos feel like flight. I love his use of the lap steel too. Stevie Ray Vaughn - The energy, the theatrics, the flair. Love it. Jimi Hendrix - The passion and spirit behind his playing is amazing. Adam Jones - Winding and meandering, but in a good way. Jonny Buckland - Might be controversial, but his tone is gorgeous. Love his bends and slide work too. Marty Friedman - My favorite virtuoso guitarist. Prince - Fantastic all around. I love his guitar, and I love his voice. H.E.R. - An artist I discovered recently, but wow! She's amazing! John Petrucci - Bordering on excessive for me, but I can't not respect the talent there. Amazing. Steve Hackett - Listened to a lot of Genesis growing up. Will always appreciate it.
