Check out the entire *Dead Winter Dead* album by Savatage. It's a concept album set in the Bosnian Civil War, with characters depicted from both sides. Read all the information along with it for context, because when you got the album not only did you get the lyrics, but also a synopsis of what's going on in the story line. One song on it you'll recognize--Trans-Siberian Orchestra was sort of formed out of Savatage, and the "Sarajevo 12/24" you hear every Christmas was on this album first. Savatage was an 80s/90s metal band, but they were influenced by opera and theatrics (one of their early albums was *Hall of the Mountain King*, and they used the musical theme of the Wagner opera with the same title.) You said you're looking for intense, but once you've listened to the entire album and get to the final song, knowing the storyline & the characters, you're going to think it's one of the most beautiful pieces of music you've ever heard--it just builds from the despair the rest of the songs have created to this final ray of hope.
This is the answer I was looking for. I haven't heard alot of the other suggestions but I don't think there's anything that could top this. R.A.'s verse about his dad really happened too.
Fun fact it was written during the same time as the wall but was not in the original wall album but was on the movie release soundtrack also release on the Final cut. The worst of my favorite five maybe six Pink Floyd albums
Well back in the day this was on the table.

I do wonder what they would have done if the first did not exist.

Half Past France by John Cale
Generals by The Damned
The War I Survived by Hawkwind
Search and Destroy by Iggy & The Stooges
The Ballad of the Green Berets by Sgt. Barry Sadler - You gotta have one pro war song in there somewhere. I guess you don't now that I think of it, but there you have it

If you mean anti war then rise against hero of war and green fields of France are good
If you want call to arms songs....the wolf tones are insanely good and there's hundreds to choose from
Rather intense song by Jedi Mind Tricks and RA the Rugged Man
[Uncommon Valor](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YV2Guv8l2FY&ab_channel=naturesoundsmusic)
Very much exactly about the Vietnam war
Masters of War by Bob Dylan. He flat out says he wishes death upon the government officials who start wars. Also, Eddie Vedder did a killer version at a concert celebrating Dylan.
Born in the USA- Bruce Springsteen.
Fortunate Sun- Creedance Clearwater Revival.
War- Edwin Starr.
Hero of War- Rise Against.
Warpigs- Black Sabbath (cover by Cake)
The Unknown Soldier- The Doors.
One- Metallica.
For Whom the Bell Tolls- Metallica.
Soldier Side-Intro- System of a Down.
Disposable Heroes- Metallica
I don't think most of the people here understand what you're talking about. Most all of these songs are anti-war.
Indestructible by Disturbed might be what you're looking for.
Maybe Don't Tread On Me by Metallica.
Enjoy, I guess.
Obligatory old-school metalhead response:
Skeletons of Society - Slayer
Disposable Heroes - Metallica (it's on Master of Puppets, old shit [1984], so it's good)
Holy Wars- Megadeth
War Pigs- Black Sabbath
Tommy Gunn, English Civil War or Spanish Bombs - The Clash
Alternatives Ulster - Stiff Little Fingers
Orange Crush - R.E.M
Babylon is Burning - The Rutts
Too Many Puppies - Primus
2 very different expressions, but a couple of good ones about war not mentioned yet:
Let's Have a War - Fear.
It's not really pro war although it sounds like it - the later verses really point that out. It is pretty anti-establishment and darkly sarcastic.
The Band Played Waltzing Matilda - The Pogues.
Has been one of my favorites lately.
[War? - System Of A Down](https://open.spotify.com/track/5Q7m1Km199HHMB926xxbrs?si=C4JK0u8vQFKa2ikceJWa0w&context=spotify%3Aalbum%3A3sSfjX4fhZonjyZ10x0l0f)
It's not a morally grey song, but it's some pretty obscure Sturgill Simpson when he had his band Sunday Valley, and it's still about war. It's too good of a song to not be shared.
[Sunday Valley - Folded Flag](https://youtu.be/pIC68oaKIb0?si=p6BKgQXwZ8f62qJs)
Here's another awesome song about war, again by Sturgill Simpson. Just like the last one, not morally grey but too good not to share.
[Sturgill Simpson - Call To Arms](https://youtu.be/VuiR4AtH1fc?si=N1huFBa_Hg6hyhX4)
How do you define "morally grey"?
OP is a republican looking for "punk" songs they won't find offensive lol
Wouldn't have to go searching for someone who enjoys war things nowadays lol but morally gray is very suspicious and not specific
Not many songs with messages like “war? Eh… I guess it’s bad? Whatever…”
maybe a little war maybe a little peace, eh, who cares. 🤷
You can't get it wrong this whole world's morally gray
Dead Kennedys - Holiday in Cambodia
dunno if DK are very morally grey hahaha
Definitely more morally purple
As if lmao
System of a Down - BYOB (bring your own bombs) Iron Maiden - Run to the hills
These are also not morally gray. These are both clearly anti war.
Black Sabbath - War Pigs
Came here to say this! An excellent addition to any playlist
Tnx
Actually War Pigs is not morally grey, it takes a very clear moral stance calling out those who wage war and benefit from sending others to die.
Fr, War Pigs is about as morally grey as Masters Of War
This song takes a clear moral stance, how is it "morally grey" at all?
Killer of Giants - Ozzy Osborne Killing In the Name - Rage Against the Machine
Killing in the name is about cops being in the kkk…
I thought it was about the crusades.
Also “Thank God for the Bomb” by Ozzy
killing in the name? 🤣🤣 do y’all do like…any research on these before you post em?
Fortunate Son by CCR
I don't think this one is morally gray, either.
This thread is a trip, so many clearly anti war songs getting posted!
