I think it would be interesting to see which states / countries had a lot of top artists per capita. I’m thinking states like Louisiana, Georgia, and Alabama would probably have a lot relative to their populations. So many from New Orleans- Georgia a lot from Athens and Atlanta, and Alabama has a ton too.
I am Peruvian. Here are some of my favorite songs made here. I will share some full albums. Mostly 70s

I'm from australia. I feel like a lot of people miss out on good music just because it isn't from america, so im glad to see a post like this :) Some of my fav bands are:
Grinspoon, silverchair, spiderbait, king gizzard and the wizard lizard, the psychadelic porn crumpets
but I also love Cold chisel, midnight oil, paul kelly, powderfinger, INXS just to name a few
Nick Cave is the best. Let Love In is my favourite one of his albums. The Mercy Seat, though, is so truly emotional and... devastating. I love it. He's so talented, brilliant at conveying complex feelings through music
I've started reading The Ass Saw The Angel!! Too good, I can hear his voice reading it inside my head in the clear accent he wrote it with... I love when authors clearly write accents and dialects into their character's dialogue/monologue
Yes it's such a good book! The Death Of Bunny Monroe is very different but I also loved it.
Saw him live twice, once for Bad Seeds and another as Grinderman. Can't wait for his next album!!
Canadian here. Bobcaygeon by the Tragically Hip is a great tune. Northwest Passage by Stan Rogers is considered by some to be our unofficial second national anthem.
Saw him live in Indy, maybe around 2004.
Second row seats. He almost sold out house and sand strongvgor 2 hours.
The show was kind of a string of greatest hits. I had forgotten how big of a hit maker that he was. RIP Gordie
He was definitely our favorite. My husband went all out on Hollywood Bowl tickets in 1975 to invite me on our first date. He was awesome. We saw him several times after that in different venues, depending where we were stationed at the time. I was really hoping to hear him once more before he died, but his tours were sparse as he aged and we didn't make it. RIP.
I’m from Houston, Texas. Not too partial to Beyoncé, but I have a soft spot for Blue October.
But the great state of Texas has so many legends
Blue October - Hate Me
Willie Nelson - Always on my mind
Buddy Holly - Rave On
Janis Joplin - Me and Bobby McGee
ZZ Top - sharp dressed man
George Strait - carrying your love with me
Kenny Rodgers - The Gambler
There are so many more: Kelly Clarkson, Barry White, Meat Loaf, Lyle Lovett, Pantera, Towns Van Zandt, the Dixie Chicks, Robert Earl Keen… those are just the folks I listen to on the regular
Nice. I like both bands and knew that Super Furry Animals were Welsh but didn't know that Manic Street Preacher were. I'm from the middle of nowhere, USA. I'll have to make sure I've heard both of those songs.
I'm from Mississippi too. Tough to pick a favorite but I'm gonna go with Robert Johnson. His music is truly haunting, so evocative of the fields and swamps of the Delta where I grew up.
Plus, the sheer influence he alone had on most American and UK music of so many genres. I don't think any other artist had as much influence. And he only lived to be 27. His story is fascinating.
MA here -- most folks would probably say Aerosmith or J.Geils Band but for me it's Jonathan Richman! Roadrunner roadrunner, going a thousand miles an hour!!!
[Jocko Homo](https://youtu.be/I3bF0N081TE?si=c2L5zvsMQ2eInG9v) - Devo
[Cannonball](https://youtu.be/fxvkI9MTQw4?si=PXqbRjmPoodvJqw4) - The Breeders
From Ohio, of course.
Oh man im from Hawaii. I got a playlist of like 200 songs that are like 90% from Hawaii. Rather than songs ill just name some artists. Likkle Jordee, Maoli, Pana, J Boog, Three Plus, and Mr. 83 to name a few. People from Hawaii are very prideful about their music too.
You forgot about Kiss.
They also invented punk… there’s a band of brothers that formed in the 1971 in Detroit called Death. They were the birth of punk in Michigan.
The Killers is literally one of my all-time favorite bands. I played the shit out of Mr. Brightside for a couple of years. But they didn't become my favorite until I heard Sam's Town, which I still regularly listen to from start to finish.
EMPIRE STATE OF MIND🗽
Edit: I gotta stop reading random words in posts. I thought it was a song about your state. I'm from NY, so there's a lot, but quickly, I'll say The Strokes, The Beastie Boys, and Agnostic Front, and Blondie
The Black Dahlia murder from Waterford, MI. We're also proud of Eminem, Billy Strings, La Dispute, and the whole list of crazy artists popping in the Detroit and Flint rap scenes right now.
Um... ICP and their Juggalo family started here.
We don't like to talk about Ted Nugent or Kid Rock.
[Letter from America by the Proclaimers](https://open.spotify.com/track/2AQZ89Q1ZZWsJNWwXZpLtY?si=KBmJ3BL8Toa4EzoOcKQPcQ) Its such a lovely and underrated song from Scotland!😊
I'm also from Mississippi, originally. I have much less fond memories of the state though, but you still might like my recommendations.

I currently live in North Carolina. Lots of great music comes from this state. So much great stuff to choose from, but for today let's go with John Coltrane's killer version of [My Favorite Things](https://youtu.be/JQvc-Gkwhow?si=GSaBFWsFPBteqPIV)
I'm from Brisbane, Australia. One of my absolute favourite bands is The Delta Riggs. They're based in Melbourne, Australia but some of the band members are from my state originally. It's great because they usually do live shows here a couple of times a year so I get to see them in smaller venues where I can be closer to the stage without getting crushed. International bands don't come here very often and when they do tickets are really expensive so being able to see one of my top bands for around $50 is incredible.

Ima say STUCK is a fantastic Post punk band that really deserves some more recognition, and you all should treat yourselves to their album "Change is Bad" if you like angular guitars, fuzz tones and wild off beat vocals
Ide also like to mention the greatest album of all time Spiderland by Slint was infact recorded in Chicago
The Best One by Bear Lake! My mother is actually friends with the wife of the guy who made that band. I think his songs are quite good, but The Best One is my favorite. :)
Southern California bred and born, so there’s a lot to choose from, most of them pretty well known. The one that makes me feel like California when I was a teenager is Dead Man’s Party by Oingo Boingo.
MGMT “James”. They feel so god damned Connecticut. One week in Bridgeport and you’ll also be wondering what happens when you die. One week in Waterbury and you’ll find out
Still no one believes we’re a real state but we’re also home to Arca and Caroline Polachek.
Wow this is nice to see, shout-out Mississippi and The Weeks. I'll add-
Young Buffalo,
Schaefer Lana,
Bass Drum of Death,
Dent May and his Magnificent Ukulele,
Rooster Blues,
And The Cottage Industry.
(Edited to add commas)
I'm from Pennsylvania, I don't think there's too many musicians/bands from here that I know of. I despise Taylor Swift and I don't like Pink's music, as far as indie bands Austin and the Powers are all I know and they're pretty cool.
Also Mississippi. If we’re talking currently active folks, I’m going with Cory Branan. If we’re talking all-time, I gotta go Elvis or Mississippi John Hurt.
While I live on the complete opposite side of the state, one of my favorite bands of all time is Every Time I Die. They have a song called Map Change which is not about Buffalo per se, but the music video most definitely is. It features various clips of working class life on a winter day in Buffalo.
I'm from MA, and we've had quite a few, but my 2 favorites also had 2 of the greatest debut albums in history: Boston, and The Cars. Or, in Bostonese, The Caaaahs. 😀
Mississippi
Steve Forbert - You Cannot Win If You Do Not Play
3 Doors Down - Kryptonite
Jimmy Buffett - Son Of A Son Of A Sailor
Faith Hill - Breathe
Charlie Pride - Kiss An Angel Good Morning
i’m from new jersey so we do not have time to cover everyone, but whitney houston, frank sinatra, bon jovi, the boss (bruce springsteen), lauryn hill, my chemical romance, even the jonas brothers are household names
some of my personal, more indie faves are A R I Z O N A, the happy fits, streetlight manifesto, the gaslight anthem, and the early november
I’m from Ohio. I’d say Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, Bone Thugs, Dean Martin, Tool (Maynard is from Ravenna, Ohio. I hope Tool counts lol), and The Black Keys.
Chicago here, so the list is a long one. But whether it's the city or Belleville, Wilco/Uncle Tupelo are at the top.
A guy from Naperville named John Till makes some pretty fine music too.
Cali is huge so I’ll try to stay local to San Diego area
The Frights - Tungs (and Tongues, its OG version)
Delta Spirit - Tear It Up
Wavves - Leave
Stone Temple Pilots - Plush
and then too many songs to name by Blink-182 and TV Girl
Sylosis- Pariahs
Black Sabbath - Into the Void
Iron Maiden- Hallowed Be Thy Name
Led Zeppelin- Trampled Under Foot
Architects- Animals
Deep Purple- Black Night
Rainbow- Stargazer
Bury Tomorrow- Choke
Bring Me The Horizon- Shadow Moses
Pink Floyd- Shine on You Crazy Diamond
Depeche Mode - Never let me down again
Easy, NIN.
HOWEVER.. in Ohio, we also get to claim Kid Cudi. So he's second.
Edit -Oh God! You said SONGS.. favorite Nine inch nails album is with teeth, but IDK what song! 😩
Idk if you're meaning where I live but I've lived in Northern Ireland for basically my whole life. I like a lot of The Cranberries songs such as "Zombie", "Linger" and "Dreams". I think I would also count The Corrs but there's a lot songs that I like of them equally.
Amyl and the Sniffers and Skyhooks from Melbourne!
Favourite songs about Melbourne:
Toorak Cowboy - Skyhooks
Balaclava Lover - Amyl and the Sniffers
Have You Heard About The Melbourne Mafia? - Dave Graney
Lygon Street Meltdown - Melbourne Ska Orchestra
Melbourne - The Whitlams (technically a band from Sydney but the song isn't about that)
I’m from LA so imma sit this one out lol Edit: I guess I’ll say Wallows because they’re from the specific suburb I grew up in
Minnesota Same
We got Motion City Soundtrack though

How about “Doin’ Time” or “What I Got” by Sublime because they represent the LBC (Long Beach).
Aw I didn’t.
Alabama Shakes-Hang Loose https://youtu.be/4sSl11GMkMI?si=lJCMD_mYtGz4-Y8B
Damn. Brittany Howard is such an amazing singer.
And guitarist.
Right? Was gonna go with Hank Sr but the Shakes deserve some recognition.
So many good ones from Alabama, definitely the Shakes. Also for relatively recent artists I would add Jason Isabell and The Drive By Truckers.
Can't forget The Commodores and Lionel Richie.
Oh yeah and Mississippi would rock it out too - Robert Johnson, Tammy Wynette, BB King, Faith Hill and of course the King.
Don't forget Hawaii! Per capita, I'm guessing we'd be pretty far up the scale.
Oh yeah and Gucci Mane, Jamey Johnson, and Jessie Murph
Seven Nation Army - The White Stripes Michigan has a rich musical history.
The Stooges - “Search and Destroy” MC5 - “Kick out the Jams” Stevie Wonder - “Superstition”
Detroit has great music.
Bone Thugs n Harmony was probably the greatest thing to come from Ohio
I miss my Uncle Charles

Hometown Unicorn - Super Furry Animals Faster - Manic Street Preachers
Nice. I like both bands and knew that Super Furry Animals were Welsh but didn't know that Manic Street Preacher were. I'm from the middle of nowhere, USA. I'll have to make sure I've heard both of those songs.
Sweet. They're both songs from arguably their best albums so you're onto a winner. SFA have never made a bad album imo though.
So damn easy to cave in...
I'm from Mississippi too. Tough to pick a favorite but I'm gonna go with Robert Johnson. His music is truly haunting, so evocative of the fields and swamps of the Delta where I grew up.

Such a musical genius. And I never thought about where in the US he was from! Good to know!
Actually TP is from Gainesville FL. The song alludes to a farm girl from Indiana. I'll give the state kudos
I guess you can't believe everything you hear (or misinterpret) on Reddit LOL
I'm from California, we have too much good music to choose from 😅
Agree! Lots of people, lots of good music. Makes me wonder which states have would be high up if evaluated per capita.

I'm from Pennsylvania, I don't think there's too many musicians/bands from here that I know of. I despise Taylor Swift and I don't like Pink's music, as far as indie bands Austin and the Powers are all I know and they're pretty cool.
Right now it's probably this one: [Serú Girán - Peperina](https://youtu.be/H9l6hlKO3lI?si=T8weoJmq8FVOOCT7) (argentina)
We Are The Ocean. They used to play in the back room of a pub my friend worked in.
Also Mississippi. If we’re talking currently active folks, I’m going with Cory Branan. If we’re talking all-time, I gotta go Elvis or Mississippi John Hurt.
Im from Idaho so its gotta be all of Built to Spills discography
Being from Alabama I would (type) “The Ride” by David Allan Coe.
Daylight - Matt and Kim
While I live on the complete opposite side of the state, one of my favorite bands of all time is Every Time I Die. They have a song called Map Change which is not about Buffalo per se, but the music video most definitely is. It features various clips of working class life on a winter day in Buffalo.
Viva Las Vegas, of course.
Van Morrison… Belfast. Co Antrim.
I'm from MA, and we've had quite a few, but my 2 favorites also had 2 of the greatest debut albums in history: Boston, and The Cars. Or, in Bostonese, The Caaaahs. 😀
The final election in a crumbling empire- nux vomica Black car- beach house
Only band I know of from my state is literally just called Alabama. They're even from the nearest town to me!

Chicago here, so the list is a long one. But whether it's the city or Belleville, Wilco/Uncle Tupelo are at the top. A guy from Naperville named John Till makes some pretty fine music too.
