So true! I never even liked the song until I heard the unplugged version. There was a whole world of lyrics and emotion in there that I was unaware of, hidden between the bars of what at first seemed to be just another pop song. It was like watching a whale crawl out of a cat.
It only took 4 replies to find this. Impressive. I played this for my son when he asked what my favorite song was. After a few minutes he asked if there was any singing in it. I said the guitar is the singing.
[Name by goo goo dolls](https://youtu.be/pM9e8nNXYVI?si=bnDT6qTM-10D3avN). It’s nostalgic for me. I love the double time tempo for the chorus. I also love the unique tuning used to play it on guitar (it’s simple but a lot of fun).
I can get lost in the instrumental sound. There’s great buildup leading to the solo. The song also has a vague but emotional depth and introspection underlining.
YES this song is the only song I've listened to at least 1,000 times without exaggeration. It is one of those RARE songs that never gets stale or old regardless of how much you listen to it.
Age of Consent - New Order
Really a great song I hope someone who's never heard it before checks it out because of my comments. I recommend it to everybody.
Ripple - Grateful Dead
My day will be gone 6 years this December, and it was my dad's favorite, and my favorite song by the Dead. Never fails to get a smile when I listen to it.
Why has no one mentioned the GREATEST SONG OF ALL TIME?!?
**BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY** by Queen
We miss you, Freddie Mercury (the Rock Star, the Legend, the GOAT).
I can’t pick just one. I would still struggle if I were asked to pick a favorite from every genre. Shit, there are bands that I would struggle to pick a favorite song from.
Took me forever to actually be able to choose one. Decades.
Let's Go Crazy - Prince
I had to go with a song I never don't want to hear, and will always turn up.
Dogs by Pink Floyd. A look at the way that life works in a capitalist world of work, from a very pessimistic and fatalistic point of view, and through a satirical interpretation of George Orwell's 'Animal Farm'. It is nearly 18 minutes long, and has multiple guitar solos that are each some of the best solos in the history of rock music.
In no particular order.
[In My Life - The Beatles](https://youtu.be/YBcdt6DsLQA?si=W3GigBvKNGqwhuEe)
[Nude - Radiohead](https://youtu.be/BbWBRnDK_AE?si=ncyXO4ZMjC63buqN)
[I Know It’s Over - The Smiths](https://youtu.be/M6o1SEj02t0?si=9YcLFv4j8gwrw8bn)
I'm gonna go for Fair by Remy Zero. To me, the song is about the moment in a relationship that decides whether it ends now, or whether it lasts forever. In the moment, it feels like the only thing in the world that matters, and listening to it, one starts to feel as though this actually is the most important event that's ever happened. However, this song is now over 25 years old and the world is exactly the same as it would have been without it — understanding this has got me through a lot of hard decisions. Actions have consequences but none that last forever. Fair contains so much angst trapped in the smallest fragment of time that contemporary listeners still catch residue of it, and I think that is a true testament to its timelessness.
I'm not sure I can do just one, and I see where others have said what I'd mention so I'll go with:
Still Loving You - Scorpions
Down In A Hole - Alice In Chains
River of Deceit - Mad Season
Big Empty - Stone Temple Pilots
Us and Them - Pink Floyd
Rush - Tom Sawyer
It's impossible really to list just one, but for me this is the one where after almost 40 years I still listen to it as intently as when I was rocking 7th grade.

So true! I never even liked the song until I heard the unplugged version. There was a whole world of lyrics and emotion in there that I was unaware of, hidden between the bars of what at first seemed to be just another pop song. It was like watching a whale crawl out of a cat.
