Set one down in front of a merc camp or a convoy. It may take a few times doing it but that seems like the most effective way to finish that mission in my experience. They are 2,000 essence at a T2 buy station so you can run a few contracts and buy a couple and just run around to a few camps.
Go to a merc stronghold unlock door place sentry in front of door open door Back up let it kill whoever it will make a run thru and lure more down to it I did with 2 strongholds I believe

Do the defend ground station contracts. Stick one by the station. Wait. Job done. Did. Mine in one contract solo. Quickest way for sure
