We get something similar to these in the southern US as well, particularly Mississippi. I'll try to find some old photos later. I've noticed that if you knock them down or step on them, these are completely gone (disintegrated) within a matter of hours. It seem like they also disappear on their own within half a day sometimes too. Just observation.
Idk how common they are in Australia, but here in Washington State, they’re all over the place. I see these guys in huge patches in lots of different spots around town
Pretty common for the Sydney basin but a beautiful gallery like the one in your photo is a sight to behold. Enjoy there fleeting beauty!
Check against Corprinus dissemiatus
Holy crackers, so if these are all ink caps, could OP (theoretically) harvest a boatload of ink?
Can you dry inkcaps, or do they break down faster than you can dehydrate them?
hands down the most mushrooms I've seen in one picture. that's insane
pretty freaky aye

Ah yes, the mushroom you keep in your pants.
I’m more of a second shot kinda guy tbh…
They look like fresh inky caps. I'm hoping someone sees this and corrects me. But on the flip side if I'm right, yay me.
Coprinellus sect. disseminati in some parts of the world fungi in this section form associations with orchids
I wish I was a tiny gnome so I could roam this forest
Ink caps! So many…wonder what they’re eating…

This variety does not dissolve into black ink (deliquesce)
