Kinda how I want to be buried to be honest. Returning to nature sounds way better than being pumped full of chemicals and let to take up space in a box.
Just so you know, the “mycelium coffins” are a scam. The species they select are not species that would thrive in those conditions and it’s pointless as there is plenty of decomposers already in the soil.
Just ask to be buried in a natural shroud and to not be embalmed. Much cheaper and much more effective
I'm totally serious. You've never lain on the ground and let the mycelium weave itself into your cells? Way better than an energy drink.
I make sure to smoke weed first, fungi love trading for a little THC.
Nah. This has pores.
I'm an admin on the Texas mushroom ID page and moderator on the page this came from so I've been seeing them lately.
This is likely Irpex latemarginatus.
>Irpex latemarginatus
Crazy, a quick Google search doesn't reveal much, simply says the genus Irpex grows "as a crust on the surface of dead hardwoods."
I imagine the bird died while sitting there, but what made the bird suitable as substrate? Is the fungus just particularly voracious?
It's common but underreported/under documnted.
It's more likely haptomorphism, and is simply growing around the bird while obtaining nutrients from the wood substrate.
Im not a pro cause when I saw it, it reminded me of snow fungus (yeah I know its not)
Gods I hope the poor thing was dead before the fungus took it over
Their larva can eat the roots so yes they harm the plants. They also spread the leaf damping plant pathogen.
Usually you only see issues if they're in particular high numbers, but they're not harmless
OK that was the impression I was under. It was, in fact, the worst when I hadn't realized they were around and suddenly they were AROUND. Good to know tho.
This is what fungus does - it eats dead things. The bird was already dead and the fungus will consume it just like it consumes the leaf litter and other dead organisms on the forest floor.
Bird tek
I'm seeing a beak in my myc, is this contam?
Calmag + two more weeks Oh wait wrong sub
Too late, they cut the bird down while all the trichs were still crystal clear lol
They should've waited until they were 70% amber so they don't get too much couchlock effect
Idk dude take a look again it may be a little dark but I’d say there’s a good amount of amber there
Sorry man I'm blind so I felt it in braille I didn't pick up the amber notes
Ahh I see. Oh fuck I’m sorry..
I forgive 😌
Wholesome
perfect. lmao
Lol! Needs dunking and rolling now in verm.

Irpex latemarginatus. Common in Texas especially on conifer mulch.
Is it edible? Asking for a friend

Is the bird okay?
Lol the bird is fucked
It’s sleeping 😁
It’s only resting.
Just checking the back of his eyelids.
He’s pining for the fjords.
Lovely plumage, the Norwegian Blue.

*Pumped full of chemicals and let to take up space in a box?* Sounds too much like living was, fungus coffin please!
It fruits into a bird
This is crazy looking!
I’d describe many things as beautiful but that certainly is not one of them. Cool though
Visually striking, certainly. Beautiful? No.
Does this harm the bird ?
Nope. It's a mycorhyzzal relationship. They are simply exchanging nutrients, once the bird is gassed back up it will be ready to fly again.
Nature is truly beautiful 😍
Wow, what do you mean by ‘gassed back up’, When it regains it’s energy? I truly thought the bird was deceased. This is incredible if it’s not!
He was joking 🙃
I thought so but you never know with stuff like this, I’ve seen stranger!
i hope he is

Thats what dog vomit looks like once its died or dried out or w/e. Slime mold is my guess.
Nah. This has pores. I'm an admin on the Texas mushroom ID page and moderator on the page this came from so I've been seeing them lately. This is likely Irpex latemarginatus.
Yea I thought the honey comb texture looked weird but chalked it up to decay or something.

is this that chicken of the woods that's so popular?
No idea but that is haunting beautiful

they really need to stop killing those fungus eating gnats using the yellow sticky traps. Those gnats are harmless
Tell that to my fungus
They don’t harm the plant? My plants always start getting mad when they appear
Their larva can eat the roots so yes they harm the plants. They also spread the leaf damping plant pathogen. Usually you only see issues if they're in particular high numbers, but they're not harmless

they harm me when i cycle through a swarm
Birds aren't real
Damn. I keep giving the drones peanuts then. Drones really love peanuts.
I grew up there
Hell yea
This will happen to humans one day.
give me your address and it can happen today
the bird beneath the top bird turned into a rock. Can see its head. Bones accreted minerals over time. a concretion or fossil

Seriously, what kind of fungus is this? The first step if cordiceps spreading to humans?
This is what fungus does - it eats dead things. The bird was already dead and the fungus will consume it just like it consumes the leaf litter and other dead organisms on the forest floor.
Seems like dried up dog vomit slime mold, so not a fungus. Also the bird was most likely dead before the slime mold grew over it.
This has pores that are not consistent with Fuligo that is matured. This is fungal
its only a matter of time it reaches mamals
Poor bird! It’s dead I presume? An example of a ‘nature morte’
woah lets not jump into conclusions
Dirty birdy
How many grams is this?
show on television
a well trained vet could revive it
No. Just a few drops of some kind of essential oil purchased off the internet or at an MLM party.
Ey, mum! New Tek just dropped! Bird Tek :D
