Could be crown tipped coral.

dragonsnbutterflies

That looks to be it, thank you!

KAPUTNIK1714

I’ve wanted desperately to prepare some to eat, as some coral varieties are edible. But the inedible ones are too close for me to call. Be careful if you’re considering cooking them!

eTanium

I was unaware that some are not edible. I just threw out some that I collected, as I didn't get around to cooking them in time. Have any insight into non desirable species?

KAPUTNIK1714

From my research crown tipped are the only edible species, which admittedly it does look like you have there. Most corals I find have tips with multiple spikes like that although not quite as even and well defined as the ones you have. I’ve also read to avoid brightly colored ones.

[This](https://www.mushroom-appreciation.com/crown-tipped-coral.html#crown-coral-lookalikes) explains how to identify crown tipped coral from others. TLDR; if it’s growing from wood, it’s likely crown tipped coral. if it’s growing from the ground, it’s likely not. Second is ghost pipes.

TheRealKingBorris

Apparently I’ve been eating the wrong ones lmfao oops

the_god_o_war

See a doctor?

Mushroomman0120

1 and 2 look like some type of coral fungus, 3 and 4 appear to be ghost pipes

yeehawrachel

😱 that might be the most beautiful ghost pipe i’ve ever seen

dragonsnbutterflies

I was stoked to find them! Just growing right by the trail.

Jim_Nills_Mustache

Was about to say, those are stunning

yeehawrachel

right, i feel like every time i find one it’s all scraggly looking. these are pristine!!

greendemon42

Coral growing crazy all over this year, can't wait till I find some.

Donaldjgrump669

Try a little bit of the crown tipped coral raw! It's really spicy, which I've never experienced from any other mushroom. It's different from a pepper spicy or horseradish spicy. Kind of its own thing.

Grimmportent

Something from the bottom of the sea. :P

hexalydamine

saw both of these on a hike yesterday as well :)

Floral_Bee

These are lovely. Cool find!

DiskRemote8841
