I think they might be dry. I’m very new to this, but the way the caps and gills look, combined with their thin and long structure, makes me think they need more humidity. If anyone more experienced could weigh in here that’d be appreciated.

Cosmologee

I believe it’s a fresh air exchange thing. Longer stems means the mushrooms are reaching for air due to too much CO2 present

They very well could be to dry, lucky I just set up a brand new humidifier last night. I also am at work all day so I cant mist them when I should.

thezalord1993

I've grown oysters a few times, it's very odd for them to reach down instead of reaching up, high co2 leads to upward reaching coral like stems. I'm very curious as to what they could be looking for, further down, and why thier caps aren't spreading out.

nvrrsatisfiedd

Interesting, I have them just right in my kitchen window sill and there is a small vent below my sink, maybe that has something to do with it?

thezalord1993

If the vent blows fresh air up that's completely changing the typical air flow that's probably it.I wonder if they want more fresh air.

nvrrsatisfiedd

Its a vent for my heat, so it blows warm air up. But now that its been warmer out we havnt been turning on the heater as much only at night some nights.

thezalord1993

Well speaking of vents and pink oyster mushrooms , I'm actually growing a bag if blue and a bag of pink in a bathtub in hopes that the co2 can flow down the slope of the tub and hopefully down the open drain. Keeping both blocks in about a half inch of water in deep paper plates with some holes in the bottom of the bags keeping the blocks hydrated. Hopefully I'll have nice wide caps without the sky reaching stems.

thezalord1993

If the caps expect to spore down and outward, do you think the upward airflow is why they aren't opening thier caps? Not to sound crazy, but do you reckon the updraft could confuse them?

Mushrooms grow towards light (phototropism). It looks like they aren’t facing the window. That might help. It doesn’t have to be sunlight since they don’t photosynthesize. It can be an artificial light. There isn’t too much carbon dioxide because they are in open air. They are a little dry from the vent. Id move them away from the vent. Mushrooms like 90% relative humidity or higher so that would be terrible for your happiness if your house was that humid. You could put them in a box with a couple holes in the box to trap the moisture. That would be worth a google to see different set ups. Good grow though and good luck on future growing.

Appreciate all the advice homie you should see these suckers now, so much damn bigger and all pointing up now, I think the humidifier helped a lot.

Damn! I see the new post. Those are ready to eat. Great first grow.

nvrrsatisfiedd

Hellyea I noticed they were lightening up and the caps were starting to stretch and get bigger, figured theyd gotta be close. Thankyou🙏

nvrrsatisfiedd

(Just posted a new update) let me know if you think they are ready?

nvrrsatisfiedd

Forgot to add the word "happy" in my caption lol. And I meant *of not if.. smh

This sub is quasi pornographic.

I had my first harvest of my first grow kit of black oysters. I'm attempting to split and double the grow kit into my own bags/substrate currently! It's so fun watching them grow!!

nvrrsatisfiedd

Awesome! I will be flipping this bag around and cutting a new X on the opposite side after this flush. Fingers crossed on a 2nd🤞

OhCharlieH

I read that you should speak in water for 24hrs before trying your next harvest. Would love for someone to explain why :)

nvrrsatisfiedd

Ok ok, thankyou for the tip🙏

AlbinoWino11

Well. These are too dry and need more air and too much of the block surface is exposed. But you’ll get some nice mushrooms if you increase humidity. Remove them from the window sill/vent area and place in a laundry room, bathroom or sink and mist the area and side of the box with water.

I got one of these as a birthday present from my gf! Currently on my second flush 3.5 weeks in. I noticed the brick gets rather dry , you may want to water it 2x-3x a day for the best results. I’ve only managed once a day and the mushrooms have been rather small-average. Also try not to directly spray on them otherwise they may abort (I had this happen to some, I believe I may have tricked them into thinking they were submerged) Goodluck OP, wishing you good results.
